I had a package marked as delivered yesterday but it wasn't in my locker box. I called and shockingly got Weston on the phone quickly. He was able to see my package was scanned at the locker down the street, contact my carrier, and have it delivered to my address same afternoon. He even followed up with a phone call to let me know! While this PO is a convenient drop off for my business mailers/ packages on my way to school, I will never come here to speak to someone at the front desk. I came in with arms FULL of packages that I like to drop off to the front desk, knowing they are in the right hands. Anything under 16oz I don't mind putting in the drop bin. Today was different.. I walked in and the line was out the door. I walked up to the front just to ask the lady if I could put my packages down on the counter next to her (it was not being used). I wasn't taking time away from anyone but a simple question. She looked at me like I was dumb and said "what?". I replied with "can I please put these here, I don't need a receipt, just a drop off." In which she replied, glaring "no. You can stand in line or go use the drop off." And turned away from me. VERY rude in my opinion. I was not going to stand in line just to put packages on the counter, that's absurd. Just a heads up: if you hire people to work customer service, they should know true customer service. Be kind, be willing to help. read more

The office is small and extremely crowded and every time it's a torture to go there. But! Brian (not sure supervisor or a post master) was extremely helpful and spent a while with me assisting in a mail forwarding mess I was in. I walked in pretty mad and exhausted and walked out smiling. Missing mail ... wrong packages ... negative attitudes ... mismanagement of mail pieces and packages ... a phone number that is consummately and eternally BUSY in other words, off the hook! Spent 2 hours trying to call ... busy, busy, busy ... then right at 5:00 the recording works fine! Try calling the number anytime between business hours, see what happens, when you ask them while you're there why the phone is constantly busy, people are on the phone, all the lines lit up, YET you see or hear NO ONE ON THE PHONE!!!! they know people are upset so they do not want to answer!! Mail carriers that won't / don't bring certified, registered, etc. Pieces to the door, too lazy, just puts a notice in the box, most times, not filled out correctly. This USED to be a Great post office, great people, friendly, nice, Helpful ... not anymore, as San Marcos grew, they can't keep up. Maybe it's time for another post office to serve our community take some of the pressure off this one, they obviously can't keep up! Strongly suggest you sign up for "INFORMED DELIVERY" that way you know what's "supposed" to be delivered and have proof. read more

My issue is specific to the delivery man. For some reason, they like to shove books into the mail box even though they barely fit. Today, my book arrived damaged. Since it didn't have insurance on it, the Post Office won't cover the cost of the item. Why is insurance required to cover the negligence of the delivery man? read more

Horrible horrible horrible!!! Do not let Lily process your passport. We had an appointment, it was rushed. She kept giving instructions while I was trying to fill out paperwork causing errors. She was not clear in her instructions and if I didn't understand she became frustrated with us and annoyed if I asked clarifying questions. Seemed very much disinterested in her job. We had my 6 month old with us who just spit up everywhere and it's a pandemic so obviously a little patience would be appreciated. We were getting a passport for my daughter and a renewal for me and the paperwork isn't familiar, so be kind and walk us through it, don't just bark things at us. It got to the point where I left in tears because she was so difficult and inconsiderate. I'm a manager in customer service at a major retail store and deal with difficult people everyday but I would never give the kind of attitude and service that I got today. I understand these are stressful times, but no need to be so rude to people, more reason to show some compassion. Also, one gentleman clerk had his mask down under his chin while helping customers, like what's the point? Very inconsiderate of others in such a small space, and with my little baby there and who knows what other vulnerable people. 'll never be coming back here. read more

Debbie is heaven sent!!! I had a package delivered to the wrong address (forgot to update it when I made the purchase online) they wouldn't let me change my address so when it got to San Marcos I called and Debbie helped me track the package had it sent back to the post office and held it there for me. She gave me a call as soon as she had it in hand so I could go pick it up. She's the best! Even with all the busy things during the holidays she took her time to help me out! read more

I was reminded today why I usually go out of my way to the Escondido post office when I need to deal with the USPS in person. I went to the San Marcos location because it was closer to me today and found terrible customer service and rude employees. I was trying to open a PO Box for my business and the employee I dealt with was rude and condescending as I tried to figure out why the 'in person' regulations were different than what is needed to get a PO Box on the USPS website (and different from when I opened up a PO Box years ago). Long story short, avoid the San Marcos branch like the plague. Or at least until they do some customer service training. If you need to interact with the post office in person, go to another branch instead - like Escondido's branches. read more

Usually long line like any other post office. Stoic faced employees, stressed out people and very limited parking at this location. I do appreciate the drive thru area to just mail things off but only a right turn out and very limited space causes much back up. Maybe extend the parking lot into the big one, if possible? read more

This is your prototypical US post office. So my review will be brief, as the staff here is friendly and helpful, but sometimes overwhelmed. The facility is nice, smaller than the Escondido office. The biggest challenge is the parking. Small lot in the front. Use the parking lot to the south, but it is shared with a local park...so, plan accordingly. They offer passport services, which can increase the traffic here, especially on Fridays. read more

They have lost my package and keep blaming ups for it, the worker at the pick up desk gave me the complete wrong address of another post office. Everyone at this location is completely incompetent. Edit: Yesterday I received a "sorry we missed you" from them, it says i owe $7.55 extra for shipping. They lost my package, sent me to 3 different post offices and now say I owe them money. I usually wouldn't review a post office, but this was the WORST customer service I've ever encountered. I came 10 min early for my appointment but I had issues with my passport documents. The lady who processes the papers said it was wrong, mumbles something on what to do and just left. I wait for her because I'm still confused...15 minutes pass. I asked another employee if she was coming back. While I was waiting for her to come back to clarify, a different employee, forties with curly hair, comes from the backroom (wasn't even there before) and decides to be sassy with me. This employee starts accusing me and saying I shouldn't argue cause passport lady knows exactly what she's doing and I don't. What? No kidding lady. I told her I'm waiting for passport lady to clarify and help me. She kept making sassy comments and I basically have to tell her to mind her own business and I'm waiting for passport lady not her. I've had very few encounters where employees are that rude when it's not even their business. Poor customer service, luckily there are plenty of other post offices. read more

Generally wouldn't review a post office, but some of the people working here are not worthy of their jobs. Lots of people looking for jobs - do yours right or give it to someone who will. Well here's the latest example; they mark a package "delivered" on a Monday. None, no package. Tuesday? Nope. So I call. "We will investigate". Wed I go out and catch the mail delivery guy while he's filling the mailboxes. I ask him about the package - he's the one (I presume) that said it was delivered. He barely responds to me. I figure I'll wait around until he puts my mail in. He seems annoyed by my presence. Finally "your name?" Gets barked out. I tell him. After about 5 minutes of rummaging he finds the package and shoves it towards me, without a word. That's fine, at least I got it. Get a call Thursday from post office manager and he's all "I don't know why you're looking for this package my driver said he put it in your hands personally". Dude, you for real? I called Tuesday because the package said delivered Monday and it was not there Monday or Tuesday. Maybe, I don't know, deliver on time and/or mark delivered when it's actually delivered? This has happened several times (marked delivered, showed up days later). Balderdash! read more

I sent a USPS PRIORITY mail envelope on 7/22/14 from San Marcos to Iowa. It just got there today, on 7/29/14. Does the Post Office want to stay in business? I've seen them advertising this service. Do they really think that the public is going to stand for their incompetence, lateness, and usually just plain rudeness? If you have something that needs to get somewhere, honestly, send it via UPS or Fed Ex. With email and these other services available, it's just a matter of time before the tax payers shut the post office down. read more

I agree with the reviewers who said that their listed phone number doesn't work. In the past, I've tried calling on multiple occasions to make an appointment for passport service, but can never get anyone. I had to go to the office to personally scheduled an appointment. Also, it seems that you cannot get a passport appointment here without a LONG wait. In the end, we ended going to another USPS for passport service. One that actually answers their telephone like you'd expect. Other than that, the rest is OK. read more

My mailbox is 7" over my head. I'm a 70-year old disabled veteran and my right arm has trouble going over my head. The San Marcos post office can't change my mailbox to one I can reach -- and there are some available -- because of agreements made with the letter carrier's union requiring mailboxes to be in order. It seems ridiculous that exceptions cannot be made to rules that are simply for ease and convenience. read more

Literally the worst postal service ever. First of all, the phone number listed on the USPS website for this location does not work, and apparently hasn't been working for years according to other reviews. How are customers supposed to get proper customer service if we can't even get ahold of them? Second, whoever delivers our mail in the area constantly puts the wrong mail in our box. I get my neighbors mail quite too often. Third, I am missing two packages that are marked as delivered on USPS tracking page. I can't even call the post office to see what happened, so I had to call the toll-free number and now I'm just left with a case number waiting on them to call me back within 2-3 business days. read more

The only reason they get one star is because zero is not an option. Recently i ordered a new set of checks from my bank. The bank used certified/delivery confirmation with DHL Global, which hands the mail off to your local post office to be delivered to your mailbox. Well, i tracked my item and I received confirmation that the post office got my mail from DHL and is scheduled for delivery to my location. In anticipation to the incoming mail i decided to stay home all day so i would not miss it. I waited until around 5:30 PM and decided to check the online tracking again. It said the mail was delivered on 2/19 at 4:41PM. Excited, i went to my mail box so i can get my new checks. To my surprise my checks were not there, disappointed I called the post office but they were closed so i sent them an email instead. The next day i gave them a call and explained my situation. The only answer i got from them was "sorry to hear that". Seriously? After paying extra to get certified and delivery confirmation they handed my blank checks to a complete a stranger, and all they can say is "sorry". They told me they will investigate and get back to me in a day. After 3 days i have not received a reply, and it would not matter because i cancelled the checks and i ordered new ones. This time I specifically asked my bank to use UPS. Thank goodness USPS is going out of business. They have been underwater for a while and it has nothing to do with people using the internet to pay bills and send messages. They are losing business to FedEx and UPS because USPS service is terrible! I hope they get shut down soon, or someday, someone who has enough time and money on their hands would take them to federal court to get that stupid fine print removed so they will be responsible for lost mail. ESPECIALLY when a customer pays extra for their package to be delivered. read more

The staff at this branch are the best. My mailbox lock broke- the mechanism gave out and I couldn't access my mail. Not only did Nathan ensure the carrier (whose name I forget and I'm so sorry because he deserves a shout out too) knew to contact me so I could get my mail as it was delivered and assess the issue, but called later in the day to make sure I was taken care of. And the on-site carrier was so friendly and willing to help. They both talked me through the process on how to fix the issue and went above and beyond. I couldn't believe how easy they made what I thought would be a very stressful situation. Thank you to both gentleman! read more

This is our go to post office and has been for the last 15 years. For the most part it's a pleasant experience. The lines can be long, but that's just the way it is at the post office. I send a lot of care packages to my Soldier son and many of the clerks recognize the big smile on my face and the excitement that soon, my son will open a box full of "home". Every care package has arrived to him on time in perfect condition. For that I'm extremely grateful! read more

Clean post office, there was line but it went fast & the lady that took care of me was very professional and efficient.

So we received a registered letter which had the Green RETURN receipt attached. We were to sign for it. It wasn't a truly important piece of mail but because it needed a signature, the Mailman was supposed to get out of his truck and ring our doorbell and get a signature. NOT! This guy weighs about 350 to 400 lbs. Instead of getting out of the truck and knocking or ringing our doorbell, he put a note that indicated he HAD attempted to contact somebody inside our home for a signature... and that we could go to the Post Office the next day to claim it. However, what the FOOL did NOT notice is that there are 2 outside camera's that were videoing him and I saw him in real time drive away from the house. As he drove down the street to a neighbor's house I checked my mail and saw that his note that told us to go to the Post Office the next day to sign for and pick up the registered letter. I just ran down the street to talk to him. So he's sitting behind the wheel on the RIGHT side of the truck and I'm standing in the street side on the LEFT side of the truck and I'm actually about 8 or 9 feet away as I'm standing back a couple of feet from the truck. I asked him about this letter and he then realized he was caught being lazy. While is brain was trying to think of a response he kept saying: "Stay 6 feet away! Stay 6 feet away!" I looked at him like the idiot he was (is) and said: "I'm MORE than 6 feet away.. standing on the opposite side of your truck! By the way, both the CDC and the WHO have said that the virus cannot live in sunlight more than 90 seconds. Do you notice the bright, hot sunlight shining down on us?" He then asked to see the letter.. but as I was going to hand it to him through the window he started yelling: "Stay 6 feet away!" again. I said: "You know, there's a difference between Science and Superstition." Then I opened my shirt and showed him my huge scar where I just had open heart surgery with 4 bypasses put in. Then I said: "I came back from my Cardiologist. I don't have the virus so its time for you to get real! Forget about Superstition and use SCIENCE!" then I tossed the letter into his truck. He looked at it and knew immediately what he had done. He said: "Okay, go back to your mailbox and I'll meet you there." I went back to the area of the mailbox but stood on the pathway to my door which was about 20 feet away. He opened my mailbox and tossed the letter into it and said, "Just sign it and leave it in the box and I'll pick it up tomorrow." Wow! This is what it's come to. Governor Gruesome in all his glory telling everybody they must wear masks even walking in sunlight or on the beach and closing beaches in Orange County while letting other beaches open. He's got the Post Office guy scared and who knows how many other sheeple. And in 10 years he'll be out of office and when he's an old man he'll look back and think of how POWERFUL he was to rule the sheeple in California. read more

What an awful post office. We schedule an appointment for our son's passport application and wait there several minutes. A lady comes back to tell us we were late for our passport appointment when indeed she was the one late. If you don't keep your appointments a simple phone call is all that is needed. Any sort of quasi-government run organization is the only type of place where you can can pretty much expect this level of customer service. read more

This is my preferred post office in North County. I ship items that I see on eBay, and when I drop things off there line seems to be a bit smaller line here than Carlsbad, Escondido or Vista. They are also conveniently located about a quarter mile off the 78, so you're in an out in minutes. read more

The only thing I did not like about this location was the lack of parking. I was there in the afternoon on a weekday and there was already almost no parking. I could not imagine what it would have been like during the 4 o'clock hour! Four stars for lots of places to get your package/letter ready. The line wasn't too long.
