I am trying to call and it just rings and rings. No answering machine or recording. My carriers was supposed to deliver a package on TUESDAY and apparently is too lazy to bring it up the elevator to my door as it is too big to fit in the mailbox. It is not FRIDAY AND IVE HEARD NOTHING about my package. I call the USPS main number and they tell me that my carrier should bring it to my door. I need to go to the local post office to see if it's there. Why haven't I been given a note saying it's there. I was told I could go there, but it may not be there. It may be in the carriers truck!! I've had to go to the post office myself multiple times to pick up items they SHOULD deliver and they "can't find my package" until the manager has to go And look for it! If it were possible to give a half star, this branch of the USPS would be lucky to get that!! Ordered meds for my dog. Informed possible delivery of the 3rd or 4th of this month. Received notice that " delivery was attempted at 5:51pm on 11/3/21 but the address could not be found/ house located. " What a giant crock !!!! I have my house number on my garage, my mailbox is less than 4 ft. up the walkway along the side of the garage AND I get mail any other time!!!! I am so fed up with the lack of job performance by some of these carriers. Whenever my street gets a great carrier, they are placed on a different route within 3-4 months. We are homeowners on this street and deserve the same service as everyone else! And forget trying to call San Pedro Main as the phone rings and rings, then when they answer they hand up. I wish that I could give this location zero stars if it were possible. I was expecting a package from my aunt which contained jewelry (family heirloom). I tracked my package after receiving an email with tracking information. The website said that they had attempted to deliver my package and that there was no answer at the door and a note was also left on my door. I was home all day. No one had even knocked on our door or left a notice. I called the USPS customer service line and was told that my package was at the post office. I went to the post office to collect my package and the workers told me that my package was not there. They took down my information and told me that they would call me with an update. I never received a call back although I was promised one and still have no idea where my package is and this was back in October. This post office is incompetent. They either lost or stole my package and do not follow through with updating their customers. They can not be trusted. There are other post offices in the area. I can not stress enough to use one of the other locations. Update: This post office is now worse in my opinion than it was. I had an order from Amazon which was supposed to be delivered yesterday. My package never arrived as it was supposed to. The driver made changes to our shipment and pulled our package from their delivery schedule. Then today when it was out for redelivery, our package still was not delivered. The driver claimed that they could not gain access to our building although there is a functioning call box at the front door. This is getting ridiculous!!! This post office is a joke. Whenever possible I avoid having to deal with this post office, both in person and especially over the phone. Their customer service is a complete joke. Ridiculous wait time paired with attitude because I'm asking for follow up on why 2/3 of my packages are delivered but the 3rd was undeliverable. "Give me your number. I'll check. Someone should call you back." I was told yesterday. Even more attitude today when I'm calling asking why I wasn't called back but received an email stating it needed to be picked up, and only received this update because I went online to request all updates on my package. Stop lying if you're too lazy to go back to the truck to get packages for delivery. My package was out for delivery and the postal worker came up on my porch and delivered my letters to my door. He even made eye contact with me when he left yet no package! I checked my tracking number and there's an alert stating that they attempted to deliver my package and couldn't access my location! Wow - Where do I start? 1 - NO parking lot for customers - you have to pay a meter to park 2 - There is ALWAYS a line - expect to wait.. and wait 3 - Always understaffed (or there is staff - just not working) 4 - They are always trying to up-sell you on services you don't need! I ship a lot of stuff (and I mean A LOT) - I pre pay my postage online (it's cheaper, and you get free delivery confirmations with priority mail) - so I just need to drop it off, and get an origin scan.... Its really simple... Or - it is supposed to be. Priority mail states "If it fits, it ships" - That is not the case at THIS post office. I had a Priority mail "medium box" ready to ship - they said they could only except that - if I paid additonal postage (? huh.. what really? why) They said that I put additional tape on the outside of the box - and if that tape was not there - the item would not fit. Well, I always put additional tape - because they only have one "strip" of glue on each end - that is not what I consider safe to be sending in the mail. Making this long story short - I took it to another post office - they took it no questions. I asked about the additional tape - they said it was smart & safe - and it provides extra protection. SO - are these people paid commission to up-sell items and services?? or do they just like to be postage nazi's and give you a hard time? I don't know - and don't care... But, I will avoid this serpents pit at all costs. If you can - I suggest you use a different post office. This one is very unhelpful. Randy, the supervisor is amazing. Our regular post person, Roy is also amazing. However, this post office needs more help. Usually only 2 windows are open with 1 person standing in the lobby asking people in line what they need help with---which is redundant because the person in the window will ask the SAME exact question, so just wasted paper---and wouldn't it be better if "merry sue" or whatever her name is, just opens up another window so that the line won't get that long? I understand the lack of security, but if something was to go down, what can this armed with a clipboard person do? The wait can be excruciating at times. read more

I have lived at numerous addresses throughout California and have had excellent service by the US Post Office. Just moved to San Pedro around 8 months ago and all I can say is that the San Pedro office is terrible. Numerous times they have left expensive packages out on the street by the mailbox, instead of leaving INSIDE the building by my door. Other deliveries purchased from Amazon say attempted but the mail carrier never left note in my mailbox, I only found out by tracking the package. A few days ago, I saw a mail carrier not deliver a package to a neighboring house because there were some small dogs barking in the enclosed yard. All she had to do was walk around the corner & knock on the units door, instead she just put the package back in her truck & didn't deliver it. Just terrible service. read more

Paid extra for 2 day amazon shipping. USPS attempted delivery at wrong address, and my package got put at this Post Office location. I rescheduled delivery online for the next day...never showed up. Amazon contacted them, thankfully, and told them to hold it for pick up. I would have gotten it delivered quicker if i'd done free 5 day shipping, instead I had to drive down to this place and get it myself. UPDATE** -- Went down to the post office. I had a package that arrived at the post office at December 21, 2015 , 6:51 am. After no progress in the tracking, I went there mid-afternoon on December 23rd and talked to someone about picking it up. They checked in the back twice, and said it wasn't processed. Since it was a 2 day priority delivery that seemed unlikely - they went and talked to someone and told me it was "out for delivery" even though that seemed really unlikely. They took my name, phone number, tracking number, and address. No one showed up to deliver, no call to the number provided. I check in the next day and get "Your item was returned to the sender on December 24, 2015 at 3:30 pm in SAN PEDRO, CA 90731 because of an incomplete address." Maybe it was, maybe it wasn't, but the fact that it took them three and a half days to find that out and made no effort to contact me (my phone number was also on the package) sort of screwed me over. Do Not get a PO Box at this location. You will not get notified when you have certified mail. When landlords regularly use this service to collect rent and then never receive notices PS form 3849 it causes Hugh issues like court costs and treats of evictions. What makes it worst management refuses to take responsibility. The clerk supervisor has the nerve to insinuate I didn't see the notice. When that's the only reason I go there for is to collect rents. I went out of my way to go to this post office to save about a eighty dollars a year now I'm paying about $1000 dollars in attorney fees and loss of credibility. If a business or supervisors fails to perform the one thing there for they should not be in business of employed. They should just privatize the mail service and maybe employees will be held responsible to do there job. Save your self a lot of issues and go some where else. read more

Ah yes, the "tweaker post office" as I so affectionately call it. I have to come here to pick up packages that require a signature from the sender and were not left at my doorstep because I am at work. That is the only time I come down to this dump. It is on Beacon Street, home to several halfway houses and generally not the best part of town. Anyways, the service here is just ok. They used to open at 9 am on weekdays; now it has been pushed back to 9:30 on weekdays and 10 am on Saturdays. For anything besides picking up packages, I avoid this place like the plague because of the sketchy area it's in. I prefer the post office on 8th & Weymouth, even though it's closed on weekends, or I'll make the drive down to the one on Catalina in Redondo Beach. For stamps, I don't mind paying a little extra to get them from my ATM in exchange for peace of mind. Some people like the interior of the historic building this post office is located in. I honestly could give two sh_ts about it. I would rather go to an ugly soul-less post office in a nice area. read more

Trying to process a Passport application on a Saturday, since the work week is for working, but this post office doesn't process passports since they're short staffed. Update the FEDERAL website. Don't be snotty about saying your post office didn't "receive authorization" to process passports. Slow service. Long lines. Only two people working windows. Also, the letter slot to drop off only takes thin letters. It doesn't take anything thicker than that, so you have to stand in a long line just to drop off an envelope thicker than the slot. This is the worst post office I've ever been to. I make it my intention to go to a different one even though this one is right down the street from my house. I'll drive all the way to Torrance to avoid this place. The workers here are all racist against white people and rude. I say racist against white people because all the workers are African American and they will be smiling and say hi to other African Americans but as I white lady walk up to the window, their attitude completely changes. You walk up to the counter and they just stare at you or if you say hi to them they might raise their eyebrows at you, no smile No hi or anything. I told the girl she was rude and tried to take a video of her being rude because she kept arguing with me and she started video taping me back on her phone. Professional right?Then proceeded to follow me out to my car and threaten me saying she has my license plate. I called the post office and they never called me back. Couldn't even report her because that's how the union works. I happily go to the post office on pacific where there is a nice classy African American lady that treats me with respect and I absolutely adore her. If you have problems with different races you shouldn't be in customer service!!This place needs to get quality employees with basic social skills who don't hate their lives. There are very few post offices that I would give a review better than 2 stars. However, I actually look forward to coming here. The building is AMAZING and massive and lovely! I can't get enough of it. The staff is great and friendly, joking with me and other customers as we wait and check out. There is usually someone talking to everyone in line,making sure people have what they need and helping with questions. I have never seen that happen anywhere else. Sure, during peak times there is a longer line. But parking is free and you get to hang out in a historic landmark, so really, things aren't that bad! I have seen a few sketchy characters about, as other reviews mention, but nothing to ruin my experience. read more

Terrible customer service. There is not a distinction between drop off and pick-up creating continuous confusion. At times, drop off is at one location and you waste your time standing in line, while at other times, you have to stand in line. There is no way to get efficient, reliable help. Additionally, I had to return two times to pick up a package that I missed upon home delivery. Nobody had a clue as to where my package was located. Say what you will about snail mail but where else can you have a parcel delivered to the other side of the country for $0.50 ? I love this location because the building is really cool. From SanPedro.com: Constructed in 1936 as a Public Works Administration project, this building also formerly served as a U.S. Customs Office. It is an example of the WPA Modern style of architecture, a conservative or classized Art Deco. The extensive use of marble, bronze and milk glass are indicative of the period. The floor tile laid in a basket weave pattern surrounded by black marble gives the effect of rugs on a marble floor. Several of the original bronze lamps and ink wells survive at the public writing desks. The mural over the wall at the south end of the building depicting the harbor area's heritage, was also a WPA project. The building has recently undergone a major refurbishment. read more

I've gone to this post office many times and I've always been in by 5:00 PM which is HARD after work. I've seen people line up behind me and been helped with no problem. Today I walked in at 4:59 and was told they could not help me, even though I had prepaid packages that just needed to be scanned in. I don't understand why these packages couldn't have been scanned in. Unfortunately this is my local post office so I'll have to be back, but if the hours are now until 4:59 it should say so on the sign. I'm extremely disappointed. read more

Worst branch in the country. They don't answer the phone--ever! Mail is only delivered 2 or three days a week. The carrier on my route refuses to pick up outgoing mail--I have actually found O/G mail in the trash bin near our mailboxes. Sometimes he just puts it back in the box. My regular mail carrier is awesome! He knows where to put our packages and is always early, and has a great smile. But god forbid it's his day off. The person, who ever it might be is filling in for him is the laziest person ever! On several occasions it just happens to be a big coincidence that when this lazy, sorry excuse of a replacement for our regular guy has to deliver packages, I never get them! He lies and puts down that he could not gain access, I live in a house. My regular carrier never does this, it only happens when he has a stand-in. I pay to have items delivered by certain time frames and god help me if the delivery date is on the day the lazy carrier who's filling in for my awesome mail carrier is delivering, I won't see that package. They don't even deserve 1 star! They constantly lie about delivery status. The website says it's delivered but the package doesn't arrive until 2 to 3 days later.
