Last winter a rock hit and cracked the windshield of my brand new Volkswagen. The crack was initially small and I contacted several auto glass companies to fix it and nobody wanted to even try to fix the crack because most likely replacing the windshield yields a better return for the companies than fixing it... I was very reluctant of replacing my new car's windshield due to the horror stories I read online with improper seals and poor glass. I tried to fix it myself with a DIY kit from Amazon and my fix lasted about half a year after which the crack expanded to the point it was unsafe to drive. I called about 10 or 15 other glass companies in the area and compiled a list of quotes and glass types they are using and checked their online reviews. Most of them were either using Chinese glass, had unreasonable high prices for better glass or had mixed or poor reviews. I also called the VW dealership for a quote, which came back huge for OEM glass. The dealership also acknowledged that they are not doing any glass work and are using Preferred Auto Glass for this. I gave Preferred Auto Glass a call to ask about the price and the type of glass they are using. Phil assured me they were not using Chinese glass and that I will get a Pilkington replacement and quoted me a very good price for this glass and installation, lower than all the others I called before. So I made an appointment and Phil came to my place during the promised time window. Everything happened in the parking lot and took less than an hour. Phil was very thorough, making sure the original seals were completely removed, the car body cleaned properly and primed to avoid rust and even cleaning everything after the job was done. During the job, he explained me every step he did and what is he doing to avoid problems later. He even left me a full spray can of glass cleaner! The new windshield looks great and is a perfect fit, you cannot tell the difference that it is not the factory one, other than the Pilkington marking instead of VW. I also checked the DOT code and it was made in Ohio, USA. Phil also told me during the job that Pilkington makes most of the OEM glass for Volkswagens, and some of them even have the VW markings on the seals. Preferred Auto Glass also has a lifetime warranty on the job for leakage or glass defects. So I am completely satisfied with the service I received and I would highly recommend them to anybody looking for auto glass.
