I…read morecontacted another provider the week prior who checked my HVAC but was not able to determine the specific reason why the inaccurate temperature readings were occurring. This provider did state, however, it definitely WAS NOT my compressor nor my panel board since these two systems were thoroughly checked and tested. I contacted American Veteran's United (AVU) (formerly Maynard) who came to assess the same problem and said I just needed a new thermostat. The "new" thermostat worked for 2 1/2 days, then went back to inaccurate temperature readings. I contacted AVU again and the same technician came, evaluated the system again, and stated I now needed a new compressor package costing $1499.00. My HVAC was purchased on 11/2024 and should NOT need a new compressor; but the technician stated AVU (formerly Maynard) has no control over the parts received, but if I purchased the new compressor, it "will probably" resolve the problem. I reconsidered the estimate and sought another opinion. My HVAC was reassessed by the previous provider who found (and I personally observed) the AVU technician DID NOT: 1) Connect the "C" wire to the thermostat; 2) Program the "new" thermostat in its entirety (which required using the online programming guide); 3) Reconnect all the outside panels and tubing [with four (4) screws missing & one screw broken off]; 4) Connect the "heat" line from the panel board (which had been pulled out and prevented receiving heat); and 5) Check the fuses to see if they were burned out. The compressor DID NOT require replacing at all! Based solely upon my personal experiences with AVU/Maynard, it appears their HVAC "assessments" have a tendency to be inaccurate and DEFINITELY require a 2nd opinion. Their equipment is marginal at best; and if I had proceeded with AVU's recommendations, I would have spent in excess of $1499.00; when it was fixed for less than $400.00. I believe people of advanced age (especially single women) are a population that AVU targets for "recommended" exorbitant charges. The older population needs to proceed with caution with this provider.
