I had the worst experience with their Pasadena location. I went in for a first-time consultation with Dr Christine Hsieh where she gave me her opinions of my options. I paid my co-pay in full upon exiting. I even received a paid invoice showing a zero balance. Three weeks later, I was shocked to receive a bill for over $500 for the same visit -- this time from the facility where I saw the doctor. Then, about seven weeks later, I received a threatening notice from the doctor's office claiming I owed $5 more for the visit and that they would send me to collections over that amount. They added random charges, and harass patients even after payment is made and receipts are provided. I've never experienced such unethical billing practices from any medical provider. This review is for Dr. Sang Lee. He might be a good surgeon, but we would never know. Do not see him if you are not ready to have a surgery. In our experience, he did not listen to any concerns we had told him; everything he mentioned was involving around assuming that fact that we would get the surgery there. He even answered his cell during our appointment time. Wow! Because he's the department's head, he might be under pressure to meet the quota. Dr. Lee, we are not just $. 4 years later, my mom is still in remission. Dr. Sang Lee saved my mom's life! I just shared my positive experience at my Buddhist meeting last week, cried my eyes out. Nam Myoho Renge Kyo! I may not be a doctor, but I also feel like if it weren't for me pushing my mom to get a colonoscopy 4 years ago, she may have not made it. I loved my human diseases classes, medics term and A&P. 4 years ago, my mom was diagnosed with stage 3 rectal cancer and was told she would have a bag for the rest of her life. Lastly, she can't travel too far due to LARS and having 1/2 her sphincter muscle left but she is alive!! Dr Lee educated me on the importance of not eating too much red meat or smoked meats which my family did every week. My dad would smoke red meat like prime rib (bloody red at times) and we would eat it cause it was so yummy, but it is not heathy ! Fish is good. I don't eat as much fast food like I used to, like "in n out". More and more young adults are getting diagnosed with colon cancer due to their food selection. I would love Dr. lee to perform my next colonoscopy. Thank you Dr. Lee, you are top notch !!!! You have taught me so much about the importance of taking care of my colon. My whole family takes probiotics now and we have changed our diets. Lastly, I think everyone should learn and educate themselves about LARS syndrome. There are support groups out there online. It's a real thing people don't talk about and in my mind, sometimes having a bag may be better for some people depending on your age. My mom is elderly and even though she is in remission, she still has moderate symptoms where she cannot leave the home. You won't be sorry with USC colorectal. Dr. Marjun Duldulao is an amazing surgeon. He performed my colorectal surgery at Henry Mayo hospital after my original surgery was done incorrectly by an incompetent doctor from a different hospital. He was able to fix everything, address issues that the other doctor didn't, and after I healed for a few months, close my ileostomy. He gave me my life back, both literally and figuratively. I can now live a normal life again. I am certain that I would not had such an incredible outcome had I not been Dr. Duldulao's patient. I recommend USC Colorectal Surgery to everyone, especially if your case is complicated like mine. Also, Gwenda Pope, NP-C is fantastic! She helped with my surgery, post surgical care, and answered so many questions. She's fantastic at ostomy care, too. Dr. Shin and his staff (Dianne) are the best Colorectal facility in Los Angeles. I saw about 9 doctors in LA for chronic pain I had been experiencing for over 16 months. Other doctors in LA spent little time and after a hand check told me that it was something I would have to live with forever. Dr. Shin was the first doctor that did not accept this answer and went above and beyond to give me a diagnosis. Dr. Shin took ample time during my doctors visit to make sure I understood what was happening. He drew diagrams and explained in detail I could never imagine. He did not rush me and for the first time, I felt heard. By the time I reached Dr. Shin, I had had 4 failed surgeries with two other doctors. These doctors would not listen to my continued expression of discomfort and said it was chronic pain and would have to live with it. Dr. Shin was the first doctor to actually listen and dig deeper. When he saw me, I could tell he cared. After an examination under anesthetics, Dr. Shin was able to pinpoint something that was able to be cured with surgery. After my surgery, he went downstairs and spoke with my mom (who had to fly in and help me do day to day things as it became that severe). He sat with my mom for a while as he explained what he found and how I can properly take care of myself after surgery. He took his time, not rushing her, allowing her to take handwritten notes so she did not forget. My other surgeons did not speak to me nor my mother after surgery. They left and one of them I was unable to get in touch with for 12 days after surgery, in which time I had complications which is when I found Dr. Shin. Dr. Shin is truly the best thing that has ever happened to my health. In addition to Dr. Shin, his staff is beyond incredible. Dianne is very punctual in her communication and very polite. When visiting his office, the nurses who check me in also are very kind and approachable. His entire staff is amazing. I had perianal abscess so I made an appointment with Dr Sangwon Lee. Regardless of the treatment I felt like the faculty don't really care for their patients. After incision and drainage, they didn't even give me the post-op instructions. On the second appointment after a month, I had a ton of questions since my condition did not get any better. The doctor barely took a look at the wound and just told me to come back in another month. I was trying to ask him some questions but he was literally facing the door forbidding me to ask any questions. I mean.... damn... I paid 115 usd(i dont have insurance) just to have him tell me to come back in a month??!!? I just flew back to my country to get higher quality treatment read more

Dr. Sang Lee at Keck USC is a lifesaver!! I was referred to him by my longtime GI doctor (whom I love!) after 9 months of negative tests/scans/hospitalizations. We knew something was wrong but could never find anything concrete. I had a total colectomy/j pouch in 2003 & had no problems since then so this was our 1st time dealing with any complications/issues. Professionalism: Dr. Lee ordered a test I'd never heard of (defecography) & right away determined what the cause of my problems was. We decided to "wait & see" but 2 weeks later I made an appointment to discuss surgery as I was not getting any better. I spent about 30min just discussing pros/cons with him. He answered every question I had as well as my friend's questions. I really appreciated the time he took when discussing things. We agreed on surgery & he wanted to do a scope right away to just take a look. I had never had a scope done w/o sedation & was really nervous. He & his nurse made sure I was comfortable & was very gentle. We were able to visualize his suspicions. Surgery scheduling & outcome: We were able to schedule the surgery 2 weeks later that same day. Scheduling was a breeze & I was told I would be contacted the following Monday for confirmation, which I was. I was able to complete all the tests required that same day as well so I didn't have to drive back to USC. His nurse Debbie & Diane the scheduler/insurance handler were amazing. I was always able to get my questions answered via phone or the patient portal (which is so easy!! I love it!). Surgery was completed & with a better outcome than expected. No pain, although the epidural made me lose track of time (expected w/that drug). I was a little disappointed that I never actually saw Dr. Lee the 4 days I was in the hospital post-op but I understand because USC is a teaching hospital. I was still very pleased w/the outcome. Follow-up appt was uncomplicated & I've since returned to work. Overall: I was extremely hesitant/scared to go to USC because it had been so long since I'd had surgery but I can say that I am very happy I did. Dr. Lee was great, I would definitely recommend him (my GI referred another patient to him after my surgery) to my family & anyone for that matter. Hopefully, I don't ever have to go back but if I do I know I'll be in great hands. read more

I went to the USC Colorectal Surgery Center because I opted to have a reversal colostomy performed. I met with Dr Cologne and immediately knew I was speaking with the correct surgeon. He was very clear about the procedure and made sure to speak in a language I could understand. He even drew a picture of my insides and showed what he would be doing. In addition, he never made me feel like he was on a time limit. He gave my wife and I as much time as we needed to ask any and all questions. After surgery, he met with me each day and always gave me as much time as I wanted to ask questions and discuss my recovery. Dr Sang Lee. is an amazing Dr. I can't say enough about how wonderful I think he is. I went in for laparoscopic surgery to remove most of my sigmoid colon and possible fistula. I ended up having open surgery. He did such a great job with the surgery leaving me with a low scar so I can still wear a 2 piece swim suite. He is very professional along with his staff. I thank god I chose Keck hospital and Dr Lee as my surgeon. I believe he saved my life given how long I had waited to do the surgery. I had a pretty speedy recovery as well. Surgery experience and outcome: Dr. Lee recently performed rectosigmoid cancer surgery for my mother. The surgery itself went extremely well and we couldn't ask for more. Her recovery was very fast, very little pain, 0 complications. She started eating sooner than usual and was off pain medication very early. The surgery was done using minimally invasive techniques but Dr. Lee was able to remove all of the areas in and around her bowel that either were or were strongly suspected of being cancerous, which is a relief because you don't want to have metastasized lymph nodes or other cancerous parts remaining inside you. Scheduling various appointments and surgery: The surgery was scheduled within one week of her initial consult with Dr. Lee. Pre-op screening was scheduled to be a few days after the aforementioned consultation. Everything went smoothly before, during, and after surgery. Overall: Highly highly recommended. His reputation and credentials speak for themselves. We are truly lucky to have him here in LA having moved from New York where I believe he is originally from. P.S. My mother and I are both more comfortable speaking Korean and Dr. Lee speaks Korean like a Korean native, which surprised us both since he speaks English like an American born as well. So for those of you who are limiting yourselves to seeing only doctors in K-town because of language issues, I would strongly recommend that you go see Dr. Lee or those like him. I was diagnosed with a colon cancer after a routine colonoscopy in August 2019. I met with Dr. Joongho Shin with Keck School of Medicine of USC Palmdale within days of the diagnoses. He explained everything thoroughly and he gave me great confidence that he has the knowledge and experience to bring my issue to the best possible outcome. I then proceeded to have CT scans and blood work as he directed to determine, as best as possible before the surgery, if the tumor was isolated to the colon. I then had surgery within 2 weeks of being diagnosed. The end result was the surgery was very successful and it was isolated to the colon. I was out of the hospital 2 days after the surgery and exercising / walking 1.75 miles on day 3 after the surgery. Dr. Shin is the expert to see in the Palmdale / L.A. area hands down. Brought my father here to see colorectal surgeon Kyle Cologne. He was fabulous! Great bedside manner and he also has excellent technical skills (we actually know some OR nurses at Keck who let us know that he's excellent and you know they know better than anyone). You can reach him directly anytime via email and he's always very accessible and CARES about his patients. However, the administrative staff at his office were all TERRIBLE. We were referred to Dr. Cologne by a family friend and when we tried to schedule our first appointment, they kept trying to schedule us into his partner (a Dr. Kaiser) clinic even though I asked for Dr. Cologne by NAME (multiple times!). It wasn't until I threatened to call their supervisor and report them to the administration before they were willing to schedule us for Dr. Cologne's clinic. They also tried to schedule my father into Dr. Kaiser's clinic again, even for the post surgery visit. Thankfully, Dr. Cologne had given us his email and saw us in his clinic right away when I emailed him about this oversight. So beware, the office administrative staff and schedulers are very BIZARRE and UNPROFESSIONAL and RUDE- why on earth wouldn't you let my father see the doctor who operated on him and try to have someone else see him?????? Thank goodness what matters ultimately is my father's health and the doctor, of which Dr. Cologne is the best! 5 stars for the doctor, NEGATIVE 5 stars for the administrative staff. And who is this Dr. Kaiser anyway? I'm sure he's good too, but really, we should just be able to see the doctor we want to see! read more

After a bad colonoscopy experience in San Pedro I called USC and was told Dr. Shin was available. He performed my cancer surgery and I could not have been more pleased with the results. I was able to leave the hospital two days ahead of schedule and he followed up with phone calls and email. I was Stage One so needed no more treatment, just follow up visits to make sure it doesn't return. Dr. Shin's professional manner is very reassuring and pleasant. I would recommend him to anyone. I had gone to another colorectal surgeon thru my wife's insurance. I had several diagnostic studies to determine the stage of my cancerous tumor. The studies didn't agree but this surgeon took me to surgery and when I woke up he had done nothing because he said the tumor was "too big". At that point I lost total confidence in him and decided to get a second opinion. I believe this decision eventually saved my life. I then decided to obtain a second opinion and was evaluated by Dr Sang Lee. He set in motion a plan that included a short course of radiation followed within 2 weeks colorectal surgeon. His surgery was able to remove all my cancer including 19 lymph nodes that were also negative for cancer. The care I received from Dr Lee and his team including the nursing staff at Keck Hospital was second to none. I couldn't thank Dr Lee, his staff and Keck Hospital's nursing staff enough.
