I saw doctor for what I thought was a large hernia. I've had 4 kids and asked if I had diastasis recti and if I needed a ct scan. Dr. A said no to both. About a week after surgery I reached out to the office because I was experiencing so much pain. I was told that I was ripped almost all the way down and needed a larger patch. A few months after surgery I could feel the bulge in my abdomen come back. Doctor told me this was normal and he basically put a corset on by placing the patch. After getting another opinion I was told that I DID have diastasis recti and a CT scan confirmed that my abdominal wall was split all the way down. Several surgeons told me 1) he should've checked this so and repaired the abdominal wall. The patch was shoving out through the wall and my intestines were getting trapped. 2) I was told the mesh patch was old school. 3) a plastic surgeon looked at my images and said he didn't think there was ever a hernia, that it was all from the opening of the diastasis. After having the patch placed it (that probably shouldn't have been placed) made having the biggest issue fixed more difficult because the patch was placed. Some doctors recommended removing the patch, but that can be very dangerous since it had adhered to my intestines. This Surgery led to many preventable issues. read more

Horrible experience from doctor Alexander and Huntington Hospital!Thankfully gratefully, money was never an issue for me to get my gallbladder surgery! When I made my consultation the nurse/assistant told me my insurance didn't meet the deductible and so I would pay $350 for my consultation and out of pocket for my surgery. I said that's fine. I doubt I haven't met my deductible since i have PPO insurance, I had surgery in the beginning of the year and put the insurance to used and paid! Upon arrival to my consultation (Tuesday) it took a while to be seeing by the doctor, but the whole time i was there the phone just kept going off. Either insurance companies calling along with patients regarding their insurance (not sure). Met the doctor, we briefly spoke, i told him what I had going on he said its best to take care of it soon. I said okay, how soon can he book me he said he would have to check his availability along with Hospitals, but soonest would be October. I said the sooner the better. The nurse/assistant came in to talk to me and gave me the breakdown of the cost for the procedure. I said its fine, I just want this taken care of ASAP as is painful and I have discomfort. She said the same thing, she would check doctors schedule and hospitals, but soonest would be October!. I left with all the paperwork, cost just needed to wait for her call. Wednesday morning I went to the Er for pain in my stomach and discomfort. I told them what I knew i had which was issues with my gallbladder (porcelain). They performed an ultrasound on my stomach and discovered that one of my intestine was infected with opening and it can be due to my gallbladder. 3 doctors from the ER were on board to get me admitted. They called the oncall doctor for that day and it was doctor Alexander (to my luck). He refused to get me admitted and instead wanted to send me home with antibiotics! I practically begged and cry to get admitted since I was in pain. I said I didn't care to pay out of pocket but just to get this remove ASAP. 2 doctors spoke to me (different time) and one of them happened to work under/along side with doctor Alexander! I asked why would they send me home in my condition and not admit me and the doctor who works under Alexander basically said he couldn't overruled his decision. I then asked if they can call another doctor and he said he cannot Shop for me. I spoke to some manager at the Hospital and she told me to call another doctor. She told me how amazing this other doctor was and he performed surgery on her. She then offered to call herself on my behalf (super kind). The referral doctor she told me about, coincidentally happened to be the doctor who i had an upcoming appointment with on Monday. Thankfully she called on my behalf and was able to make an appointment for me that same day to see him, once I got discharged from the Er. As soon as i left the Er, I walked over to the referral doctors office. While at the referral doctors office I get a call from doctor Alexander nurse/assistant and she said they had a cancelation from a patient for the upcoming Monday and they were offering it to me so I can have my surgery, but at a different hospital, Arcadia Hospital. I said I would call her back. As soon as I spoke to the referral doctor, which he already knew about my condition. He said let's get this taken care of, you're in a lot of pain. I asked how soon can he do the surgery he said tomorrow (Thursday). I asked where he said Huntington Hospital. I was happy and upset. Happy he'll be able to do it next day. But mad at the fact that Huntington Hospital didn't bother to just call another doctor (him). I got diagnosed with porcelain gallbladder at Huntington Hospital. They gave me a short list of surgeons for me to shop around (their words, not mine). On that list was doctor Alexander and the referral doctor . They both had great reviews. Doctor Alexander just made it about money. Maybe he thought I wasn't serious because I didn't give payment upfront, but how can I pay for something im not scheduled for or even given an accurate date. Referral doctor Not once did he asked me about $$. My insurance was accepted with No questions asked. Our health is Not a joke and if we dont advocate for ourselves, then almost No one will. Shame on Huntington Hospital for sending me home In my condition and telling me they cannot Shop for me and help me find a doctor!! Im not shopping for Cosmetic surgery, its my health! read more

Dr. Alexander removed my gall bladder in a procedure that was complicated by the fact that I was on anti-platelet therapy due to a stent placement seven months before. This surgery was deferred and I wore a biliary drain for four months. The surgeon who was to do the procedure, without getting into it, gas lighted me about many aspects of my condition. That's when I sought out Dr. Alexander who was forthcoming, direct and honest about what needed to happen and what I could expect. He answered all of my questions without making me feel stupid for asking them. After what I had gone through prior, it was incredibly reassuring. Office called me wanting me to come in for a consultation in spite of my insurance changing at the end of this month and them being unable to perform any needed service (new insurace would require new consultation with a new doc for service, no matter what conclusions THIS doc would have from one visit). Tried to convince me of a need to get a "special compounding prescription" for 50 dollars cash which insurance does not cover (mind you, they have not seen me and know ZERO about the severity of my condition) and told me I was being "difficult" and hung up on me when I said I would prefer the doctor work with me and the insurance I DO have, to prescribe something which would be covered and help. Scammy doctor trying to sell extraneous products and get money for unnecessary visits; to be avoided. Update: doctor messaged me on Yelp asking me to remove this review "in the holiday spirit." No apology for the rudeness of his staff, or their unprofessional behavior. I am glad we share a strong sense of disappointment over the first two points he cites - those are the very reason WHY his staff trying to recommend me any particular treatment was incredibly inappropriate. His third point means he needs to educate his staff better on how their approach works, but still makes no explanation for why his staff would insist I "need" this product without me being seen yet. Again, they knew my insurance was changing. They suddenly had room for me to come in that very week upon finding out. EVERYTHING about this is "money-hungry" red flag garbage from my experiences with doctors. Beware. His message: "Dear Sir,   I am very disappointed by your review because of a few facts.  #1 You were never seen in my office.  #2 You never spoke to me- you spoke to the receptionist.  #3 We don't have the cream are are speaking of in stock- it has to be blended by a pharmacist on demand.  With respect to its cost ($50) its cost at CVS is set by CVS and not by us. It is a bargain compared to other pharmacies that usually charge $125. When appropriate, I write a prescription and then you take it to be filled by a number of compounding pharmacies.  I don't care which pharmacy you use.  I am sure that you don't really believe that a giant company like CVS has some special deal with me to produce that medication. I don't receive a dime from your purchase nor is there any compensation to me of any sort.  So your implication that somehow I make money off of it is just flat out wrong.   We use this specific medication as it is the most effective medication for certain problems.  Many insurance companies don't cover compounded medications.  They prefer to cover on the shelf medications that may or may not be cheaper.  It is their decision and a business decision that they make on every medication.  That has nothing to do with me.  I tend to use the most effective medications available as most patient want to become better as soon as possible. Claiming that we are scamming you without knowing the facts is not very fair.  So please, see it clearly.  Perhaps you can get into the holiday spirit and remove your review." read more

Back in September, I was in need of a hernia repair procedure. My appointments were clean, efficient and thorough. Through my first visit, Dr. Magdi recommended that I have the robotic approach performed for my needs. This was the first time I had ever heard of the use of a robot in performing this type of surgery. Granted, this was my first surgery ever in my life, I had nothing to compare. Knowing the type of person I am, I had a lot of questions, but every answer led me to the same feeing I had about originally. I was all for it. The nurse practitioner; Kaya was in my room right away going over the procedure, and scheduling a date for the procedure. The day came and went. I was in at 8A and was released by 3:30P. My post recovery was quick and almost painless. My scarring is very minimal with only three, 3/4" incision sites on my upper stomach with little to no discoloration. I was referred to Dr. Alexander by my primary care physician. At my first appointment with Dr. Alexander I found he had a very pleasant personality. He confirmed the diagnosis of a bilateral hernia and clearly explained the options for repair. I opted for the robotic laparoscopic surgery method which was an outpatient procedure. I only needed to take prescription pain meds for two days afterwards, then ibuprofen for a few days after that. I wouldn't recommend this place. I waited for over an hour and 20m to be seen and was almost attacked by a mentally ill patient in the waiting room. Then when I saw the doctor he suggested putting me under anesthesia for a procedure... His assistant came back to propose doing the surgery for 1k out of pocket for me and said they were making a deal. Weird. First off - I have great insurance and have never had this kind of proposal. Usually I go to the doctor, they send to insurance and I pay 30% of the out of network bill. So that seemed odd to me. And I just had a weird feeling there. I decided to go to a Dr Heartfield - recommended by my dr for a second opinion. He said it was a simple procedure and no need for anesthesia etc. He took care of it right away during my appointment in less than hour with no anesthesia and no issues. And no weird billing conversations. Glad I trusted my gut and went elsewhere. Something here feels like they are just trying to get paid. Not cool. read more

Dr. Alexander is the worse surgeon I have ever seen throughout my 20 years of experience in the medical field. He has no bedside manners. He did my husband's laparoscopic wash to cleanse his colon and never came to see his patient after the procedure. Several attempts of requesting to speak with him in-person or over the phone again never called back. Yet, he put a dictation that he examined him and everything was looking well. I went for a consultation of an acute symptom. The office was able to see me immediately. Dr Alexander took a quick look at me and immediately recommended an operation as the remedy. There was no presentation of any options and what their short- and long-term implications would be. Without providing enough information of what the operation entails, the doctor left the examination room. Then, the office assistant/nurse took over and started scheduling the operation. The practice was very condescending in their tone of communication. Their focus, as I perceived, is very business focus, rather than medical care focus. I believe the doctor personally check reviews closely in here and many other medical service listing sites. I fully expect that he would send me private message regarding this matter and perhaps request me to remove this review.
