This was unfortunately our worst experience at a USO location. Our two sons each selected chips and a sandwich. After that, our oldest politely asked if he could also have a bag of popcorn. The volunteer responded firmly, "That's enough. You guys had too much already." I was honestly surprised by the tone and response, especially since they had only taken two items each. I asked if we could simply pay for the popcorn, but she said payment wasn't the issue -- they just didn't have enough food. What confused me was that there were no posted signs explaining item limits or any guidance about restrictions. Clear communication upfront would have prevented the misunderstanding. We also asked if we could use the microwave and were told no again, which added to the frustration. We donated $25 during our visit, and when I mentioned it, we were told that donation funds cannot be used to purchase additional food. That was surprising to hear. When the shift changed, the new volunteers were very polite and welcoming. However, by that point we felt uncomfortable and chose to leave without escalating the situation. We truly appreciate what the USO does for service members and families, which is why this experience was especially disappointing. We hope this feedback helps improve communication and consistency for future visitors. read more

What a delightful stop for veterans and active duty in transit. We were greeted by Kenny a delightful volunteer who served us fresh coffee , sausage egg and cheese croissants and Crumbl cookies. Lots of relaxing chairs and tvs. Have to say I enjoyed it more than the airline club. read more

Great place to relax and reset during your travels. The volunteers here were very friendly and happy to be there. We were told to help ourselves to the snacks and drinks and they came around to check on everyone making sure we knew we could get more if we wanted. I really appreciate the USOs all over and the volunteers that keep them running. I'm so proud to be part of a military family and THE military family worldwide. These are great volunteers who are dedicated to helping active duty soldiers on travel. You must have a military ID card to enter, but once past the door you are treated well, as good as any airport lounge at no cost. First timer visiting USO Houston and so glad I made the visit considering I had a long layover. The volunteers are super friendly. They have a section for the food where they will gladly make for you along with snacks and drinks to choose from. I didn't see the rest of the area as I stayed on the recliner chair to get some rest before my next flight out. Small location, but it's not about the size. I want to thank Art for providing Liz and I outstanding service. The place was clean. It was stocked with basic foods and beverages. It looked like it was ready for both tracking service members and their families. Although hidden in a unbusy terminal, we were greeted, signed in, and given access to the facilities. Every time I have a layover in Houston, I always swing by the USO here at terminal D. The staff is always friendly and welcoming. It's nice to have a place to sit and rest while waiting for a flight. They always have drinks, snacks, and great conversations for free. read more

Great small USO located in Terminal D by Gate D2. Volunteers are so friendly and helpful. It has a few comfortable leather recliners to sleep, relax or watch TV. Great little dining area with plenty of snacks, coffee, drinks. A few computers with internet access and a bookshelf with paperback books and an assortment of travel size shampoo, conditioner, lotion and soap. Such a nice place to wait for a flight! read more

First, if you use the USO, leave a donation on the way out the door! As always, friendly volunteers and a small facility that serves as a nice respite from the hustle and bustle of the terminals. PROS: comfortable couches; fridge fully stocked w/ drinks and chow; departure screens at front desk; volunteers are friendly and eager to help CONS: small facility; limited privacy, as entry door is wide open to terminal traffic, who can watch you sitting in a couch watching TV; no bathrooms Love the USO. Again, if you use the facility and have something to eat and drink, please leave a donation! Lastly, I have to comment on a whiny lady who was complaining about hours in her Yelp review: really? This USO is open 0600-2100. I presume they're not open later due to a lack of VOLUNTEERS. We all need to remember the USO is a volunteer organization, and not a full-time way stop for weary military travelers. This USO is an absolute godsend. Not only is it run by volunteers, but there's plenty of amenities for military members, vets, and families to use. I was stuck overnight in Houston due to weather and didn't have luxury to spend $120+ for a hotel for one night. Instead I headed over to the USO, which had plenty of recliners, sofas, and plenty of cots for people to sleep on with blankets and pillows. Even though the space was a little small you were able to take the cots out to the gates to sleep on at night. The kitchen was fully stocked with food, snacks, and drinks. I was so grateful for this USO and the ladies that stayed up to run the place. read more

Fantastic absolutely fantastic! What it lacks in size it most definitely makes up for in hospitality. Wonderful volunteers, really, they are so kind and helpful to mil and family. I travel for a living so consequently I've been to a lot of USO's (thank you husband). This is one of the better ones. It has several computers, Wi-Fi, a kitchen, and two separate areas to watch TV. The hours would be the only con I have. 9-9 might be convenient for the masses but service members that really need it are outside of this time. Those who have given this USO bad rating for the hours should remember that this is a volunteer organization. Most of these volunteers are former servicemembers and are just trying to pay it forward. They should be commended for being so selfless with their time. It's kind of off in the middle of nowhere but worth the trek. read more

I had an awful day yesterday, where my flight was delayed 3x due to something to do with baggage, a medical emergency where a passenger was taken off the plane & a weather delay. After landing yesterday, I called last night & was told they were closed. I slept in one of the airport chairs, set an alarm for 0600 and came by. The volunteers are amazing - they made sure I was fed, that I had wifi, a cot to lay on (since all the couches were taken), blankets, pillow & just overall great service. Even while eating breakfast, they made light and pleasant conversation with me and other guests. After the longest day yesterday, this was such a pleasant surprise & I would definitely stop by again if I had a longer layover. (Just be aware of their hours 0600-2100!) read more

I love the USO because no matter which airport I stop at I know there is a cozy seat and snack waiting for me. The quality of the locations vary that's just because rooms at an airport are a limited commodity. The USO Houston is the nicest location out of the six I have seen. It was located in the far back of the international (going to Asia, Dubai etc) terminal. There are a few TV's, nice comfy sofa chairs and a few Xbox 360's to play. The fridge is packed from top-to-bottom with drinks and food. I can't say enough about how comforting the USO makes travel for those in the armed forces and thanks to Yelp easier to find than using airport signs. read more

It looked nice-through the window. Had a flight cancellation while on orders. Had to sleep overnight in airport. FOund the USO, 5 minutes after it closed at 11. WHy do you provide a service to people that REALLY need help while stranded in an airport, but only during hours that are convenient for you??!! Very disappointed. Robin was very helpful to me and my family... I had my parents traveling from overseas to Hawaii. They speak no English and were stranded at the airport because of a snow storm and their flight was cancelled. I called the USA from Hawaii because no one else at the airport would help me. Robin answered the phone, I told her what was going on and she was an angel. In addition I have been at that USO many time ans they have been always great as in any other USO. Airport had dated, tired decor. Lots of country blue, older tile and vanilla plastic fixtures. Large and spread out over 4 terminals but nothing along the trek to excite you for a photo op or relaxing review. read more

We had 5 HR layover in Houston (Iah) and originally googled the uso and it said it was closed (for the first time Google was wrong) but a few minutes later we heard over the intercom it was open. Hallelujah. The staff was amazing. It really made the place feel so comfortable. The man greeted us and made jokes, showed us around and told us to make ourselves at home. It was really a god send. As I woke up from my nap, I went to the back area to be greeted by another staff member. She offered me options for drinks and snacks. If you have a layover definitely stop by! Great time to a shitty layover. read more

I think this USO needs to be a 24/7 operations due to the fact that I work in this airport and I see a lot of cancelled, late or delayed flights due to bad weather or mechanical issues and I see a lot of our service men and women come up to me looking for the USO late in the evenings and I would have to inform them that the "ONLY" USO available is closed . 1) it needs to be bigger 2) it needs to find a staff that can keep it open over night and 3) maybe put a different location in another terminal that way there's two options . read more

We, William A. Shanks (CW2 Ret Army(100% disabled Vietnam) and family would like to thank the entire volunteer staff on duty at the USO on 14 Jul 2011. We arrived at the airport approximately 1:30 PM expecting to catch the next flight to Fayetteville, North Carolina, instead the flight was going to Fayetteville Arkansas. We experienced misery and chaos attempting to get another flight until we got in touch with the USO. THEY WERE GREAT. Getting to them was not easily accessible so they came to us. They came to us like a group of Angels, bringing water, chips, candy and loving hearts. They contacted continental management who was instrumental In getting us a flight to Charlotte that night, but the Glory goes to the afternoon volunteers on the afternoon shift at the USO. USO overall undersestimates how important the airport USO's are to military families. A lot of USO support seems to duplicate MWR activities, but not in airports! These USO's are wonderful, comforting, and give military members, their families and retired a much needed refuge. Longer hours would be wonderful. I was stuck in this airport for 5 days since all the rebooking from a snowstorm in norfolk. Lucky thay manage to get enough volunteers to stay open all night long during that week. Couches are comfy enough to sleep in if needed which I did. My hat goes off to there volunteers. The self serve area was always clean and tidy and stocked. Best place for a long layover read more

I love the USO but this location fails miserably as it's located INSIDE the security gates!!! This is one of the only locations in the world that does this. Not happy!! Very friendly and caring volunteers. I was flying to ME from TX and I missed my flight. I had to wait 6 hours before the next flight. I was dead tired and they feed me and I took a lil 2 hr nap on the couch. I felt safe enough to sleep. I wasnt worried about anything except drooling! Thank you so much! read more

This small USO has people with big hearts. Regardless of size and amenities offered, USOs do important work. I have been to more than I can remember. They've always added that VIP feel to airports and a good backup plan for when plans get changed. This particular location does have military cots if you need to spend the night. The USO staff is always very pleasant and ready to assist with anything you need. It is not a bad place to stop by if you have a lot of time to kill. Unfortunately, this USO is on the smaller side, and tends to be busy. They have several computers for use, but one of them is currently broken. They also have several video game systems to play and some couches to nap on. Other than that, there isn't much else. read more
