United is helping me get off to a good start! 2025 was a rough, sad, devastating year for me and my family. I even lost my Yelp elite status for 2026, but that won't keep me from sharing, just makes me sad. I'm hoping for a better year in 2026...so here is my first review for the year! I am trying to put 2025 behind me and I am starting off the year with a trip. To my surprise we were blessed with an upgrade of which I am forever grateful and we got access to the Polaris Lounge. [[HIGHLIGHT]]What a wonderful place to kick back and relax before a long flight![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I've only been in the regular United Club up to now, and I have always been curious. [[HIGHLIGHT]]They are similar, but a lot less crowded.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]There is plenty of cozy seating with different options from tables to lounge chairs.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] There is a buffet like the regular United Club, with snacks and drinks. Plus, there is a bar. In addition to the items like the regular Club, there is a sit down restaurant inside as well where you can order off a special menu if you don't want to go to the buffet (no worries, no extra cost). [[HIGHLIGHT]]Moreover, just about all the seating areas have a charging station (of course, if you sit at a regular table there isn't any).[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The staff is super friendly from the time you check in to the time you leave. They make you feel seen and special. If you have access, I highly recommend to take advantage and relax...even for a few minutes. I had a really enjoyable experience at the United Polaris Lounge. The food and drink options were impressive, and everything I tried felt like a nice step above the typical airport lounge experience. The staff members were friendly, welcoming, and attentive, which helped make the visit feel more relaxing before my flight. [[HIGHLIGHT]]My only concern was how crowded the lounge became the last time I remembered pre-COVID. It was difficult to find an available seat, and having more seating would make the experience much more comfortable, especially during busy travel times.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Overall, I still had a positive visit and would gladly return. [[HIGHLIGHT]]With a little more seating availability, this could easily be a five-star experience if guests were timed and not staying for 2-3 hours after dining, just watching a movie or something at the lounge. We had a very long layover, flying united international for the first time in a very long time. We went to the regular united club and they kindly recommended we switch to the Polaris Lounge. The united club was full so we agreed to try something new to us. Turned out to be a great decision. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The Polaris Lounge was clean, well appointed and quieter.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] But, the best part was the service. Stephanie welcomed us and when I asked for some guidance, kindly explained how everything worked, where the food was, bathrooms, etc. She arranged for wheelchair service to pick us up and we found a spot to sit and relax. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Unfortunately, the seats, while mid century modern beautiful were med century modern incredibly low.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We did find some chairs at a table that were more comfortable Thomas helped us clean up a small mess, very graciously and professionally. He also provided additional friendly guidance but in a very helpful way. Eating was a bit of the a challenge but thankfully, every dish was labeled for potentially problematic ingredients! Awesome! All the entrees contained dairy. So, I got some salami, cranberries, sunflower seeds and roasted beans. It went well with my lame stomach and I enjoyed several servings during our multi hour wait. Jason, the chef, came out and served vegan beans and carnitas along with various fixings. He was very helpful working around dietary restrictions and friendly also. Flying Polaris on a Saturday with enough time on my hands to visit the Polaris lounge. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Compared to weekday flights, it is really empty. I was the first person in the door when the Polaris lounge opened at 5:30AM. Staff were welcoming that AM while I scanned my boarding pass to confirm entry. You can access the Polaris lounge prior to or while in transit to/from your destination when flying United Polaris on any international leg. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I took the elevator up to the 2nd floor and had my choice of spots as this location was quite roomy.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Furniture were in good order and all the electrical and USB sockets worked at my seat.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]I took advantage of the showers given my overnight flight from BA. Shower facilities were quite nice with room to open up my suitcase and enough counter space. A basket included a full set of towels, slippers, deodorant and a shower cap[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. The breakfast buffet was acceptable with the typical hot breakfast items, fresh fruits (especially blueberries), baked good and oatmeal/cereals, The sit-down portion of the lounge didn't open until 7:30am and I didn't want to eat and run. Not all Polaris club are the same. The menu does vary a bit and the quality of food depends on the cooks. Even the quality of drinks can vary. We found the drinks to be much better in Houston than LAX. As for hamburgers, the hamburger was much better at LAX. Plus the quality was better. The service at the Polaris in Houston was better than LAX too. I guess one's experience all depends on server and chef. I mean, if you have not been in this lounge, you are certainly missing out. We had about an hour before our flight, so we decided to go to Polaris lounge to relax and get some food. We sat in their restaurant area, and there was no weight to get a table. We decided to get their burger, because everyone around us got it and it looks delicious. The burger was OK. Nothing special BUT the scallops however, were absolutely delicious. They were cooked to perfection, had so much flavor. The only thing I wish is they had more of it lol. For dessert we got a cookie with some ice cream. It was so yummy. The drinks were delicious, they actually makes them very good espresso martinis. This is our second time at the United Polaris Lounge and it's still just as great as the last time we visited 5 years ago. The decor is modern and chic, and the assortment of different seating configurations can cater to virtually any type of traveler. The layout of the lounge is partitioned off into different segments. No matter where you are seated in the lounge, you are always near electrical and USB outlets, so charging is no issue here. Depending on where you are in the lounge, you have views of the tarmac as well as an interior view of the Terminal E. The music played is a nice mix of easy-going adult contemporary and was pretty pleasant. Hey, who doesn't appreciate a little Jefferson Starship from time to time :-) The food here is pretty stellar as far as airline lounge food is concerned. There is a large buffet style area with soups, breads and snacks. For people looking for more filling options, there is a dining room area where you will be seated and the food is cooked to order. This last time, the food was just as great as the first. I had a delicious Poblano Asiago Spinach Soup, and it was first-rate. I really liked that there were plenty of healthy options available. The restrooms are clean and best of all- they are gender-neutral individual restrooms, so you get complete privacy. It's nice to have that sense of tranquility when traveling and can be in a space with total silence. Overall the United Polaris Lounge is one of the best. My only concern is amount of seating, there was limited seating and several people just had to stand. Hopefully they will consider to expand the size, as this is probably their big hub for United. The United Airlines Polaris lounge is a special place because you can only get in if you're flying Polaris business class... which pretty much limits you to international flights. The Polaris lounges are a step up from regular United Clubs because they have showers, seated restaurants and better food options. I've been to the SFO Polaris lounge a few times, but I think I like the IAH lounge more. First, the Polaris lounge at IaH is located right next to the regular United Club. It's not a far walk from where you go through customs if you are arriving from a foreign country. Second, it's not as big as SFo's lounge. I don't feel like I had to fight for a seat or walk a mile to get to the showers, food, etc. Third, the restaurant staff at IAH is really good. I feel like at SFO, some of them are kind of clueless and maybe aren't trained waitstaff. In fact, all the workers seemed nicer than at SFO. It seems unfair that I was able to get a 5 hour nap on my lie flat seat, decent in flight food and beverages on my international flight and then come to this Polaris lounge for a nice hot shower and hot breakfast... but I guess that's how to travel! read more

This lounge, as expected, is definitely a cut above the rest: ample seating and space, nice bathrooms and shower areas, a sit down restaurant area, a buffet sit wherever you'd like area, and a bar. Even with a lot of people in the lounge, it never felt crowded, and the wait for anything - restaurant, buffet, or bar - was never even close to long. The service, though a bit cold from many, was fine and nothing to complain about; I wanted to tell a couple of people that they didn't need to emulate the same snobby behavior that some travelers who frequent lounges do, but alas. Our food was generally good as well. Their omelets are interesting - not bad but not really an omelet. Everything else was pretty decent and at least above average, and the buffet area is pretty expansive. The bar is lovely, and there is a wide selection of liquor, wine, and sparkling. What's the issue and why not 5 stars? It was dirty. Fruit flies were a consistent presence, tables and furniture were not clean or wiped down, and in general, it was just quite ehh. This was true both times we went (on the way to Japan and on the way back). That's simply unacceptable for a lounge of this caliber (or any lounge really) and with as many people working as they did. read more

For United Club located in Terminal E Gate 12 - just had a very rude interaction with one of the employees (didn't get her name, but she had a badge and was walking around the lounge). I had just started opening my lunch bag (I have several dietary restrictions) when she came over and started berating me about having outside food and to put it away right away or get out of the lounge. Geez. I genuinely didn't know. She could have approached the situation differently. Generally speaking United does a good job with its Polaris business class lounges. I appreciate the sit down restaurant style it offers. The lounge design is inviting and there is plenty of food and booze. For the Houston Polaris lounge the airline struggles with its size relative to the crowds. Definitely a great step up from the United Club. Entrance to this lounge is accessible if you're flying business/first class internationally. There are plenty of comfy seats with many places to charge your electronics. There's a buffet and also sit down dining if you prefer to be served. There's a bar perfect for pre flight drinks, a self-serve coffee machine, and a fridge that carries sodas and bottled water. There are showers here that I've never tried and single/personal bathrooms. The bathrooms are spacious and kept clean. Definitely a great lounge to relax in before a long flight. read more

The dining room is nice and the staff is so friendly. You have the option between the buffet or ordering from the menu. I opted for a build your own omelet... order it with goat cheese it's delicious! The bar is well stocked. Plenty of bottled water and snacks at the buffet. The shower before my flight was amazing. I have now been to the Polaris lounges in Chicago, Newark, and Houston. Chicago and Newark started out amazing, but have both began to slip in the food category. The Houston lounge, on the other hand, has amazing food and is now my favorite Polaris lounge. I came here on the way back from Europe, after being stuck overnight in Newark and then being rerouted through Houston. Needless to say, I was not in a good mood and had been eating airplane/airport food for two days in a row. Nothing should have tasted good to me, but I ended up sitting down for breakfast at the Polaris lounge anyways. The menu is heavy on Tex-Mex (which I think is a good thing) and everything we had was delicious (especially the brisket)! We were there for a few hours, so I nibbled on a few lunch items on the buffet when they came out, and those were also very good. The wine selection, as with all Polaris lounges, is very good. I may have even had an 11 am Prisoner. I was not here at a crowded time, but the lounge is on the small side, so I could see that potentially causing issues at certain hours. Overall, the Polaris experience is better than what you get from any other US airline and is one of the reasons we typically fly United abroad. read more

The United Polaris lounge is definitely worth the hype. It's spacious, clean and the service and food options are both great. We opted to sit in the dine in area to try the infamous burger. As an appetizer we ordered the cheese plate. As you can probably tell from the picture, it was not great. Thankfully the burger made up for it. The patty was extremely tender and just melted in your mouth. I was a little bummed they only gave me 3 fries but it ended up being fine since they didn't taste that good. For dessert I ordered the cookie skillet with ice cream. It was just ok, nothing to rave about. They had great wine options (real champagne and even Prisoner wine!). Overall, the food was good but the service and ambiance were top notch. I'd definitely come back here for the burger and wine. read more

We ate in the full service restaurant which was nice but had slow service so keep that in mind if you're short on time. If so, I'd recommend the excellent buffet. The shrimp lettuce cup appetizer was bland and not very good. In contrast, the Avocado Grilled Chicken Salad was excellent featuring freshly grilled chicken and succulent mozzarella balls.
