I always admired the USPS until an incident I had beginning Jan 4, 2016. I recently moved to LA from New York. I sent myself 6 boxes standard and media rate. One of the boxes contained two turntables. When the boxes arrived, ALL boxes showed clear evidence of vandalism. 5 of the 6 boxes had a rip down one entire corner of each box. The 6th box showed signs of tampering with the shipping label; it was repositioned. The box with the turntables was vandalized the worst. Inner parts of the turntables were dismantled (damage that could only be done by human hands - not regular shipping wear and tear). The needles were broken, the cartridges were pulled off, one rubber belt was missing, and there was a foreign object in my box that did not belong to me. I contacted customer service numerous times. They kept opening and closing my case, labeling it as "resolved" even though they never followed-up or compensated me. I also contacted the office of the Post Office Inspector General. They basically told me that they suspect the damage was from shipping. They did not offer to view the boxes or seriously look into my case. Basically, I paid $170 in shipping for my boxes to be delivered in destroyed condition. I have not been compensated. This is terrible customer service and frankly, it makes me realize why the USPS is slowly becoming obsolete. They deserve it if they do not offer reasonable customer service. I will be using FedEx and UPS from now on. The reason I am posting my complaint here is that my tracking #'s indicated that all my packages went through this Bell Gardens sorting facility. I noticed on Yelp that this facility has a history of package damage, so it doesn't take a rocket scientist to realize that the issues are occurring at this facility. It is absurd that the Post Office does not do anything to fix this facility. read more

they are impossible to reach through phone because apparently nobody seems to hear the constant ringing. i myself witnessed them actively ignoring the phone or even trying to assist people properly. the woman at the counter are extremely rude and vauge in their instructions. it says they are open at 9am but refuse to do anything when the time comes. read more

After seeing the nightmare wait at the Downey location we decided to head to this location to mail out something for the IRS. I urged my girlfriend to get certified mail because you never know. And sure enough it is a day after the letter should have been delivered and it is still on transit. The location itself had zero wait which was surprising on a Saturday, but now I know why. Thankfully we have the letter certified with a date so the government entity knows when we delivered it. I read some reviews about people saying the sorting facility or something is the problem, well whatever it is there should be a complete overhaul of the way things are ran and the personnel working there. What an inconvenience and disregard for people having to conduct business via snail mail. read more

Called about it and I was told why I did not wait in line I responded your staff asked if anyone had prepaid packages to hand it over to them. So as a trusting person, I handed them over to the clerk. and they put them behind the counter. So here I am sending emails and partial refunds to customers due to this. I get it we are in a pandemic but scan the packages. At least people would be aware their mail is going to be delivered later than expected but it is in possession of USPS. The lady working at the blue door, not only looks like she just woke up and came to work.. mascara all over her under eyes and tagging along a BAD, BAD attitude. As I wait for my turn, I listen to how she talked to the previous costumers and let me tell you that I had to bite my lip to not tell her anything. I order quite a few items online. And no matter how they are shipped (fedex, ups, usps, etc) if for some reason the shipping route calls for it.... and i cant see why because every package i get from here is stuck for at least 4 days. When it does end up here it seems to get misplaced for quite a while and come through with a really damaged box to the point where you know they ripped it to inspect the contents. My theory is that it isnt easy for them to outright steal packages so I think they put it in a corner (which is when the tracking stops), then slowly get to pushing on the seams of the box to make it rip along the edges, and inspect the merchandise to see if it is worth stealing. And apparently this post office is so notorious for theft and awful service that in the tracking they had changed the name to usps regional distribution center los angeles to throw us off. I am afraid. I had my package scheduled to be redelivered, as it was sent to my old address, and I asked to have it sent to the correct one. When I checked the tracking number and it told me it was sent to Bell Gardens in Los Angeles, I was confused. Why would they send my package from the Palmdale USPS facilities (the place where I AM) to Los Angeles (the place where I'm NOT)? But I digress. Get your receipt!!! I was standing in line with 6 packages when one of the workers came out asking who had packages with Pre shipped labels. I responded and she took my packages without giving me a receipt. It's been over a week and one of the packages hasn't been scanned so I'm unable to track it. I've been back several times asking for answers and they give me the run a round. The DUMBployees here usually dump the trash all day long and one time more as to the last DUMBployee out! Because of me! The DUMBployees still don't get it! People come into postal lobbies 24/7 to get their mail out of their P.O. Boxes to get their mail! Many trash what they do not take! Lots if magazines of all kinds! Here's an update on what happened with my package. After waiting a while I finally received it, however, it was in horrible condition and clearly had been opened. After looking inside the package, it was clear someone had ripped open the gift wrapping of some of the presents (pictures included). Only some were like this, not all. The complete disregard for the items and package in general is horrible. Luckily, the more expensive items were camflauged inside other, "less desirable" item packaging. If they had seen something expensive, I'm sure they would have just taken it. read more

Okay, kind of weird to be reviewing a post office, but I had a really good experience here. I was trying to mail out my wedding invitations (brag), and considering it is the holiday season, I expected to have to wait forever for help. But actually, someone called me up to the counter right away, weighed the envelope, and a second employee helped me pick the most festive stamps for the invites. They then directed me to where to drop them off, and they were received by some guests the next business day! Worst CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER! Came here to ship a package. As I was looking for a appropriate box for the already printed shipping label, a lady came up to me and asked if I needed help, I said yes I do. She directed me to what box was best. Anyways after waiting forever in line with like only 2 people in front of me, the lady didn't even greet me. I gave her my package, and the shipping label, and she told me I had to "straighten it out". She gave my rudely a tape and told me to move to the side. AVOID THIS PLACE!!! Wish I could give this location ZERO stars!!! Customer service is HORRIBLE, but that's the least of my concerns. The worst part about this place is the DISCRIMINATORY attitude they hold against Spanish speaking customers. My mother (Spanish speaker) went in to ask why our mail wasn't being delivered and the employee completely disregarded her concerns and told her there's nothing they can do. HOWEVER, when I went in and brought this up to their attention they completely denied discriminating against her. I shipped a package on December 16 from Dallas Texas to Whittier California, should have arrived on Thursday, December 23 but never did. I tracked it online and it sat in Bell Gardens for five/six days!!!! Finally it was delivered Tuesday December 27th..after Christmas.. When my mother opened the box all the gifts were ALL stolen and replaced with a bag of oats! Who in the hell does that?! This review is based on the customer service I received not in regards to any personal shipping issues. I was supposed to receive two packages about three weeks ago. Unfortunately my sister in law threw away a notice they left so I had to somehow track my packages based on some emails and tracking info from UPS since UPS transferred my packages to USPS. Anyhow, I had scheduled a re-delivery online about a weeks and a half ago and was waiting for my packages to arrive at work... no delivery. I submitted a complaint and received a call from the Vernon office stating that the packages were not at their location and that the system showed they were in Bell Gardens (which I did see online as well. The packages had been in Bell Gardens for about two weeks). Anyhow, I decided to go in personally to see if the packages were still there which they were. Bought some second hand books from Ebay, when it arrived at Bells Garden, CA, I googled it for searching the location, then this page was the first thing showed up. (I didn't even type USPS, just the location itself) I freaked out after reading everyone's reviews and prayed every single day, luckily, I received the package. (so if your package is in bells garden, don't give up hope!!!) However, the box is teared/cut on both sides (see photos below) and did not even get retaped, so anyone could see the items in the box. The tape outside the box clearly got teared, because they were messy and not sticky anymore. (I guess someone tried to tear them, but didn't work, so cut the box?) I just double checked with the seller, and she/he claimed that she/he used the new box, I believed that, because the box inside looks new and clean. My mail carrier sucks and this facility has done nothing to fix it. Where do I began. There has been a few times where I've gotten the mail from the person a block over with the same numerical address as me but different street. I think that is totally unacceptable . I've gotten my neighbors mail on a few occasions. But the true list of my complaints began below. The first complaint was my drivers license was lost in the mail and after having the DMV confirm that it was sent the only answer from the Post Office was," Your mail carrier confirm they deliver whatever they had the DMV may be lying. " Second complaint my IRS refund check never made it to my house. You want to guess what response I got ," Your mail carrier confirm they deliver whatever they had the IRS is mistaken and didn't send it out. " Third complaint. My baseball tickets never arrived and now its a whole other headache to straighten this situation out with ticket-master. With customer service like this and poor production quality this is a prime example on why our postal service is failing. read more

Same story as everyone else. Even my local post office in San Diego calls this place the 'black hole.' They currently have my watch, due to be delivered - wait for it - 3 days ago. Still stuck there. It's the Bermuda Triangle of Post Offices and sorting facilities. Senders be ware. The advice in which Nick D mentioned earlier - to use Fedex or UPS - those companies now use this new cost saving method of delivering your packages to your city, THEN handing that package off to the local USPS for delivery of the last leg. This is what happened to my package with UPS. With UPS, it can be called either UPS BASIC or UPS Mail Innovations. If this happens to you, be prepared to wait. All that aside, stay away from the Black Hole. The likelyhood of your packages being lost or distributed to the wrong location are high compared to normal standards. read more

I had a package shipped to me from over seas, and I was extremely excited about it arriving to me. I was checking the tracking number every 30 minutes or so hoping for an update. When I notice my package had arrived to Bell Gardens, I wasn't sure where that was, so I googled it, and noticed it had a 1 star review on yelp. This made me extremely nervous, and I read review after review basically telling the same story over and over. Calling it the black hole, packages getting lost or stolen, or shipped across country only to arrive back at Bell Gardens. I now thought that I would never receive my package, and all hope was lost. But I waited, and in a few short hours after my package had arrived at Bell Gardens, it had been shipped out of Bell Gardens. My package arrived safe and sound in San Diego only 1 hour after it had left Bell Gardens. Total sorting time at Bell Gardens only took 5 hours. I realized people would only take the time to write a negative review about a postal sorting facility, because I'm sure this place sees thousands of packages a day, and a few get messed up, but most do not. I was very excited to receive my package, and after reading all the horrible reviews about Bell Gardens on Yelp, I thought it would never arrive. But it arrived safe and sound, without any problems, so I felt the need to hopefully calm the nerves of anyone who has stumbled across the Bell Gardens sorting facility and thought they would never see their package. I ship packages from Orange County and Long Beach, CA and they always end up going to this sorting facility. Mail seems to get stuck in Bell Gardens for days, being scanned over and over for 3-4 days before finally departing. This had been happening for years. I definitely notice the delay here is worse when sending a box than it is mailing an envelope. In general, envelopes seem to leave here within a day. Occasionally I sell on eBay and Amazon and having shipments sit in Bell Gardens or disappear can really hurt me as a seller. I'd love to here from any locals if there's a post office location I can ship from where my mail would go to another sorting facility. I'd gladly go out of my way (within reason) to ensure my items get shipped promptly and get to my customers. read more

UNBELIEVABLE After this terrible experience I now completely understand why the USPS is a dying industry. And frankly, I'm glad. Not only is my package missing (probably gone forever) but try giving USPS a call and see if you can speak to a human representative. Go ahead, give it a try. See how far you get with that one. After hours of getting nowhere with the robots on the other line, I decided to make a trip to another USPS location ( and figure out what the hell is going on with my package that has been "at" Bell Gardens for the past 11 days. Only information I received from the worthless employees were the same phone numbers I'd been using all morning, with the same automated messages. After calling the Bell Gardens Police Department (in complete desperation) I was finally provided with a phone number to the USPS Investigation Office, so at least I've talked to a human being about my issues. But, I'm sure my package is "lost" forever. I would have never thought a Post Office could be this shady and have this type of reputation. So USPS, thanks for nothing. Last time I will ever be using your services. From this day on I will make every effort I can to avoid shipping or mailing with USPS. And I'll be the first one celebrating when the last post office closes its doors. The fact that you can't even speak to anyone when you have a problem shows how much they care.
