Sometimes to get stamps, sometimes just to have them weigh my parcel so I did not accidentally put to much postage on it. All things considered, I was happy this place was so close, but always a bit annoyed when I had to come here. In the age of Fedex and UPS, lots of people criticize USPS. Here is something that I love about them: the one-rate boxes. They have boxes that you can cram as much stuff as possible into and it is always the same rate. Here is the problem with USPS. Fedex and UPS are much more conveniently located and spread throughout cities. I was lucky to have USPS so close, but not that lucky. Because this is the main branch, it would ALWAYS be packed. Most recently I was here bright and early at 8am. There was only one employee working and I had about 4 people in front of me. I am thankful the employee was cheerful and SO FAST. She really did a good job. I only waited about 10 minutes. By the time I left, the line behind me was twice as long. It will probably get worse as the day goes on, but more employees will join her at the counter. I recall that since I was a little kid, I have never been to a Post Office that did not have a huge line. That is why I used to despise going there when I was little. I still feel that same angst as I walk through to automatic doors. Michael S. is right to point out that they sure do have a TON of P.O. Boxes. And I never recall being uncomfortably warm while waiting in the huge lines, so he must also be right about the air conditioning. Overall, I like the employees at this Post Office. They are friendly and really kick butt doing their job while keeping customers happy. I also truly hope they decided (or decide) not to close down this branch. While I do not live as close as I used to, I can only imagine that the crowds at other Post Offices will only get 100 times worse if this branch is closed. Sometime less is more, but I guarantee that saying will not hold true for the number of Post Offices that the government has in any given region. While I cannot say that I am a fan, this Post Office was A-OK!

The base has great views of Tampa bay and Downtown with plenty of walking paths and benches to sit and take in Tampa. They have a Burger King and a golf course and everyone on base has been vetted at the front gate. However, having used this particular branch of said agency, I simply find it about as user friendly as a post office can ever become. If you're one of those folks who uses a PO Box rather than a physical address to get your scads of junk mail, bills and the occasional package, then you're in luck. This small outpost in a dim corner of a business park has 'em in spades. Lobby is very clean, quiet and well kept. There are tons of supplies available as you walk toward the service counter area, which is behind a glass door within the lobby. Supplies such as envelopes, boxes, simple packaging supplies and all those postal forms you'd need to send different classes of mail. If you normally don't ship stuff by mail, worry not. The postal clerk behind aforementioned counter behind aforementioned door is genuinely great ay what he does. The fellow's name is Dwight, a middle aged fellow who actually has a rather pleasant demeanor and patient attitude. Dwight isn't always the only one behind the counter, but he's a great face for the agency. He, my wife and I had a very pleasant conversation as we figured out which particular mail class to use for a package of documents I had to ship. It was very clear that he knows his stuff and is more than willing to help his customers so long as they know what they want. It helps if one participates in all these goings on to help the process move along. Not only will Dwight remain patient but he'll guide in the right direction for the right reasons. This also helps in MOVING the line along, if only because USPS lobbies tend to get long lines pretty quick. So if you want USPS to deliver for YOU, then deliver yourself to this business park near the county lockup and the county airport (hello, Allegiant passengers). Hope that if you have questions or concerns, Dwight will be working that day. BTW: as this branch is in a business park, there are no weekend hours.
