I was mistakenly booted by University Parking Enforcement. I had to call them and they did come by to take off the boot after they realized their mistake. It was incredibly frustrating and stressful for me. I have had a handful of additional negative experiences as well. Did I park illegally? Yes. I never disputed that. What I did dispute is how they were able to do that in the 5 minutes it took to walk my date to her apartment and then go back down to my car. There was no hanky-panky or lingering. Simply walked her to her apartment said goodnight and walked back. I have to hand it to them, they are good at what they do - extorting money out of students who can't afford it. But it is predatory and vulture-like. Where was the truck, even, when I pulled into the lot? Camouflaged? Or using a cloaking device? I got to the impound lot before they did. And there was no room for understanding. Shameful. read more

What do you think of the integrity of a company who sells you a car that states it is in good condition and has been checked by their mechanic? The Car was taken around the corner to a gas station and while putting gas in it I checked the oil and found the car to be several quarts over filled. Thinking this was strange I proceeded to drive it toward Salt Lake City and after a little over a mile smoke was coming from under the hood. When I got to American Fork the car quit running. I couldn't get it to start again and the temperature gauge was on hot. I checked the oil again and there wasn't any oil shown on the dip stick. I had the car towed to SLC and was informed by a mechanic the engine had seized up and the car needed a new engine. I donated the car to a charity after a loss of almost $1600.00. Someone was in my spot at a complex north of campus and I called them to take the car out of my spot. They didn't ask me any questions about if that spot was actually mine. What the crap! Are you kidding me!? If I was as greedy and thirsty as they were then I could call them from any complex at any time and get them to tow a car of someone I didn't like. That is extremely unprofessional and just reveals that they really will do anything for a quick and easy buck. A separate experience had me with a new car at King Henry. I parked it in a spot for about 25 minutes to grab something from my apartment. I got a boot in this short time. I did make a mistake to park there. But I appealed on the grounds that I have done everything I need to park rightly there (paid for a parking pass) and my appeal was rejected. HEARTLESS. Seriously they are the worst. I've had so many ridiculous experiences with them but this one takes the cake. I'd gotten in a car accident late at night and my parents let me take their car to get home to my apartment. The next morning I had a boot on my car because I didn't have a parking permit. When the guy came to take it off I said I wouldn't pay it because I HAVE a parking permit, it was just in my car that got totaled. His response? "Well you should have gotten a temporary parking pass." I had gotten home at 1 in the morning, I could not have gotten a parking pass! So his response to that was "Well you should've gotten the permit out of your car to place in this one." Oh, I'm sorry that I didn't think of that after getting into a life threatening car crash. These guys are suing a BYU student for damaging their reputation. Ha. Everyone in Provo has hated them for a long time. The only reputation they have is bad. Here's my story. A couple years ago, I had a stalker. One night he was trying to get into my apartment and get to me. When the chaos ended, we find these guys putting a boot on her car of one of the people who had come to help keep me safe. We explained the emergency situation we'd been dealing with. These guys didn't care and made him pay for the boot. He'd only been there a few minutes. Clearly, they care about money more than anything else, even someone who had only parked somewhere for a few minutes to deal with a genuine and terrifying emergency while we waited for the police. This was only one of my experiences with them, but obviously the most traumatizing. If you have a choice, don't use these guys. They are absolutely horrible. read more

I was booted 2 times in my own apartment complex by this company. The first time I was reimbursed by the landlord, as there was some errors in parking striping. The second has warranted this review. I was involved in a car accident resulting in my being issued a rental car. I arranged for a temporary parking pass from my apartment complex which was essentially a 6" x 11" piece of paper that needed to be hung from the rearview mirror. This paper was so large that it needed to be removed during driving. One evening I neglected to hang the temporary parking permit from the mirror (it was on the dashboard) resulting in my vehicle being booted. After being forced to pay $80.00 to remove the boot, I was informed of an appeal process. Appeal was denied. This company collected $80.00 from a vehicle that was legally parked, but didn't have the temporary parking pass "properly" displayed. read more

This is the worst company ever!!! I lived in the Branbury where I had to pay $50 for parking, which I had done. One night after it snowed like crazy I parked in a spot that look like a stall but it ended up not and I was towed. I looked up the laws and anything that can't properly be identified as a no parking spot the tow company is not allowed to tow but they did anyways. I even wrote the city who wrote back with a $25 check saying sorry but they couldn't do anything. I even sent them pics of the stall and had everything detailed but they could care less that this company was towing people unfairly. I have concrete evidence of predatory towing on an occasion where they waited in the dark for me to leave my car in an obscurely marked parking stall and towed me right away. Also, one of their employees waited for my sister to walk away after saying hello to her to boot her vehicle (for a misinformed reason). What an embarrassment of an organization. Some years ago this company towed my vehicle from a parking spot in which I was legally allowed to park. The tow truck driver deliberately lied in his report, saying that he saw me walk into an apartment complex that to this day I have never set foot inside. I spent several hours in their main office, brought in my own witnesses, and demanded that the tow truck driver be brought into the main office from his shift. Only then was I finally able to get them to admit that they had lied and was able to get my car back without charge. Few companies have done more to create a negative association with their own brand than university parking enforcement has done to theirs. read more

I would give less If if could. I called because in my Apartment Buildings contract, it says to call them and inquire about a "visitors pass" if we have a plan change after hours and are in need of a visitors pass. I called them because we borrowed my brothers truck for the day and needed to have it one more night and really didn't want to violate any parking issues. I asked if I could get a visitors pass from them so the car wouldn't get towed and he repeatedly said that it is not their job and it's the apartment managers job. I told them that it was in our contract to call them if after hours, and that I needed the visitors pass for the car I was borrowing. The guy on the phone then all but called me a liar and said that he won't help me because I said I wanted a visitors pass and that I wasn't a visitor. I was only calling to get some help so that I don't violate policy. Total jerk on the phone and not helpful one bit. read more

Worst place ever. My car recently needed repair, so I traded out my car for a temporary replacement in order to get my car fixed. I wasn't able to get a temp parking pass for my complex in time since I had been at work all day. The next morning my car had been towed. It costs a total of $235. There is no such thing as a good experience with UPE. They towed my car on multiple occasions when my parking pass was visible. When I pointed out to them that I had a parking a pass and was parked in the correct spot, they didn't care and I had to pay them $175 to be majorly inconvenienced. I have personally had negative experiences with UPE since at least 2012 so they have not improved for the better part of a decade. read more

In Provo from Oregon for graduation- a happy, anticipated, hard-earned event- only to be towed while parked in a visitor parking spot at our son's apartment. Wow, now that can put a damper on the event! Thanks for the open arms welcoming! Didn't know that we needed a look-out for car preservation while just briefly visiting in a designated spot for visitors. No readily visible signage was noticeable to those unfamiliar with the area and complex in the cloak of darkness . Luckily, we came out just as he was pulling away with our rental car, but he was unresponsive and undeterred by any of our pleas until plastering his palm with half of the towing fee. If i could give 0 stars i would! I have been towed and it was two minutes before midnight, i had walked out to my car and it was gone! When i went to get my car literally ten minutes later, i had gotten to their office and my car wasn't even there. So I ended up waiting 20 minutes for my car to even get to the lot!! Today my wife and I had to leave our car in a spot without a permit while dropping my sister off after Easter dinner. Not long after, we left her apartment and were disappointed to find out that we had been booted only minutes before coming out, and that the enforcement car was still parked by us. They're good at what they do. I visited a friend for ten minutes and found out that my car was towed during that time. (Apparently guests aren't allowed in the parking lot). We immediately went to this towing facility, so they had it for less than an hour. They charged me $145 for the tow and a $30 "administrative fee." Every night of the week there was a tow truck on the street of our apartment complex waiting to tow people. Also, my car was towed once because my pass "wasn't visible enough." They claimed they couldn't see it, but they didn't bother to look because it had fallen off and was literally on the seat of the car with clear visibility. When I showed this to them in their own lot, they replied with a "oops oh well too late ‍". I also had another experience where we ran out to stop them from towing my friends car. The guy hadn't hooked up anything when we got there and we asked him to stop because we were THERE and willing to move the vehicle but completely ignored us and hooked up the car right in front of us. I tried contacting his manager to report this behavior multiple times but the manager wouldn't take my call. I understand it's hard to be the "bad guy" but I never once had a pleasant interaction with anyone from this business, even when I made sure to approach them with a polite, non-hostile demeanor. read more

Provo parking is very predatory. They prey on students and young families. There is not enough parking around most of Provo, and many apartments do not have sufficient amounts of parking or visitor parking. Was helping someone move a refrigerator from their apartment outside to our car. The tow truck watched me park outside and when I brought the refrigerator back outside to load into our car only a few minutes later the car was gone. UPE is not useful to anyone. There is no process in place to be able to dispute any of the charges for your car getting towed or having it sit in the towing lot, even when getting towed from your own apartment complex just because you had forgotten to pick up and place your parking sticker. Because that's what happened to me; I had just moved in to my new apartment a few days ago, had only lived in Provo and away from home for a few months, and my last apartment complex didn't require a sticker. I would suggest that some kind of appeals process be put in place, or that University towing give people some more time to adjust to their new place, learn the parking rules, and obtain their parking sticker before starting to tow them. That's the problem with commission-based towing. It's like saying to the police that they will be paid commission for each ticket that they sell. No one in their right mind would accept that because the police would be pulling people over all the time for small infractions just so that they can make more money. That's EXACTLY what is happening with towing in Provo, and it's maddening. read more

If hers was crooked then the rest of the cars were too. They were all straight. They didn't take a photo of the parking like they are supposed to as proof. When I was in college they would go around and throw a boot on a car and immediately take it off and tow the car just to be compliant before they ruined a young poor college students week.
