This was only my second tanning bed experience. The young woman (her name begins with a G, i think) at the front desk was very kind and helpful, giving me her full attention. I ended up purchasing a month of unlimited sessions, but G in no way pressured me into that. In fact, she offered other options, including a 5 session bundle or one at a time. The bed (I used the Ergoline bed) was fully sanitized with a new towel. The tanning lotion was a bit on the expensive side, but a one-time purchase and they offer many at each price level. The goggles weren't free, but that means no one else has used them/sweat on them. I have very fair skin, but didn't burn one bit. After the first time, I noticed a bit of color. I also asked about the bulbs, and was told they had just changed them, and they change them at 1800 hours, earlier than the 2500 hour lifetime. I am just shocked how poor customer service is at this place. I have never payed this much for my tans before, I called today and specifically asked the girl that I am on a time crunch I need an appointment at 5:30. She said they don't do appointments and can't guarantee there will be a bed available for me to tan around that time. So you hear this ? Lol !!! The audacity. When I asked to speak to the manager, she said the manager is gone for a week , and she might be in next Monday. But I can't talk to her directly, only email. This is beyond horrible customer service, I have never been treated like this . When I am asking politely to save a bed for me because I am on a time crunch, for the price I am paying, this should be understood by everyone who works there. Appointment or not. Horrible horrible horrible. I have been coming here for almost a year and this is the only time I politely requested this. The girl on the phone also told me, " so what that's you are paying $75 for 3 tans, everyone pays that " WOW. Renee, I am not taking my review down. You can say what ever you want, hire better employees who don't have to lie to you. It's sad that they have to lie instead of just helping the client. I would also recommend recording your calls, your employees lie. Why do you need to know my name ? This is just so creepy. I have been coming to your place for a year, and I get treated like this. You don't need to know anything about me. Only one fact that your employees need to provide better service. I simply requested to hold a tanning bed for me because I am on a time crunch and you turned this in a circus. Me giving you my name what is that going to do ? Are you going to look up my address ? Hold your employees accountable and apologize. That's all it takes. read more

Utopia is a wonderful, clean, relaxing environment. Their staff is very well trained, friendly and tanning certified. All of their beds are made by Ergoline which is the current #1 bed in the industry. Their beds are exceptionally well cleaned and maintained (bulbs are changed often) as well as new. They even have a new non-UV (yes, no sun damage) bed that improves skin texture and appearance (fine lines, freckles, stretch marks) and strengthen your muscles. Its a red light, a healing machine. All of Utopias bed's are like the Ferrari's of the tanning bed world. As far as their spa offers are considered, everything from waxing to facials or airbrushed makeup--you have to, I repeat HAVE to, see Suzan. She is an absolute pro at everything! She gives an amazing Brazilian wax (that she makes you feel completely comfortable doing which is pretty hard considering what it is!), she does a facial where she goes over your skin type, desired results and suggests products for you to use in the future, and she even airbrushed my makeup for a halloween party (I was dressed as a playboy bunny) I brought in a picture of megan fox and she did it to a "T". She even matched skin highlighter and the exact smokey look I desired. I highly recommend Utopia to anyone looking for a golden glow, or a wax down below!! read more

services offered are good, but it is so frustrating their policy. i have gone into tan on three occasions this month, and the bed wasn't being used. Someone had put their name down on the waiting list, but had not showed up to start their session. One time the person showed up 21 mins after the bed was available! My tan would have taken less than 10 mins. The policy should be to be on a waiting list, but if you are not present at the time the bed is available, then the next person present should get priority. read more

I think my review didn't post due to technical error. If duplicate, sorry. This is the first negative review I have written for a business. Usually, I just don't bother. But, I don't want anyone else to get hurt. I am a "high net worth" individual who would have referred many friends and family if not for being treated like sh*t. Run far away from this business! Basically, I called to cancel my monthly billing plan by phone. I confirmed with the employee working the front desk that it was cancelled. But, I kept getting billed. I didn't notice until it happened more than once due to being extremely busy at work. The new front desk employee said to come in and complete a written form even though the last one said I could cancel by phone. The second employee said that I would get a refund for the billing mistake. But, I kept getting billed. I called again, but there was yet another new front desk employee. It seems this business has high turnover in staff. This employee claimed that the phone cancellation was not valid. Also, she told me my cancellion had to be in writing 30 days in advance! The manager refused to even listen to me tell her this.. So, I am guessing she will try to say that this is not what happened. Anyhow, that is not what staff told me and a business needs to take responsibility for properly training its staff to communicate accurate information, regardless of what the fine print in any membership paperwork states. But, I did not even get a chance to tell the manager that because she wasn't interested in listening, just reciting "company policies." I had to dispute all bank transactions with Utopia, even the few legitimate ones, as fraud in order to even open a case with my bank. I also had to cancel my debit card to stop the automatic billing. Now, my bank just told me that I may be sent to collections for one month after I cancelled my debit card. I don't know if that is true; just what my bank stated to me. I have never been treated so poorly. Shame on you. I am sure you will think of a clever response. But, don't bother to spin what happened. Don't even bother to respond to this review. I have already told all the people who matter and they have agreed to boycott your business. read more

This place is amazing for several reasons! I have been coming here for 3 years and my tan in perfect, the beds are clean, staff is friendly but most of all HONEST. I used the stand-up in December and am lagging on writing this review so i'm sorry. Better late than never... I left my diamond necklace on the little shelf in the room and left not realizing I had forgot to put it back on. I went about my business for the next two days and on day three went back to tan and instantly remembered "Holy sh*t, I left my diamond necklace here the other day!" I told the woman who was behind the desk, she happened to be the assistant manager (Stephanie) and she pulled out a little ziplock bag and said "Is your name Maile?" I went here today for my first ever air brush spray tan the woman that does the procedure was amazing, thorough, and made me feel comfortable and fabulous all at the same time. This place is perfect! It's location is key ! For on the way to work , during a lunch break or on my way home ! As well as on the weekends where I can grab a coffee next door get waxed and /or tanned relax and perhaps do some shopping ! The staff is very friendly and welcoming ! I get grossed out quite easily when it comes to salons and spa's cleanliness ! As it could be a cesspool of germs. But this is not the case here ! Utopia is a great place to tan, I would definitely recommend it! The staff is friendly, the facility is clean and the location is very convenient if you live in the San Ramon area. My only complaint is that during peak hours the bulbs don't have time to cool down and the beds can get uncomfortably hot (but I'm sure all tanning salons are the same way). I just try to go in the mornings when it's less busy. Overall a great tanning experience! read more

I service is great, the place is clean and nice... However, I recently had a mystic tan there and now my skin is itchy. I think I'm having an allergic reaction. I haven't had this happen in my previous mystic tan experience with other places. The one at Utopia was different from all the other ones I've used... I'm assuming their spray solution is different as well. Even though it was buy one, get one free, I won't be going back for my free tan. Back on a the hunt for another mystic tan place. I signed up for an "unlimited" monthly Mystic spray tan package for $69/mo. Throughout the years I'd been utilizing the service, their Mystic machine would (on occasion) be "out of order." I never squawked at my card still being charged the monthly fee of $69 when this would happen....until this past July. The Mystic was down a considerable amount of time that month, so I had asked for a refund, to which the owner (Tara,) refused. Instead, I was offered a pro-rated in-store credit. Well, that wasn't going to do me any good because the only thing they sell is tanning lotion, which would've been of no use to me since I only spray tan. I decided to contact my credit card company and dispute the charge. Frustrated with the machine habitually breaking down, and lack of customer service, I decided to terminate my month-to-month membership. My credit card was charged August 15th, so I had until September 14th to continue utilizing the service. Upon coming into the salon September 10th, I was told my membership had already expired, and that I was also not allowed to tan there anymore until the "dispute" was resolved. So basically, they were retaliating for my disputing the charge with the credit card company. This is the treatment I got after being a loyal customer for many years. I'm actually glad this happened though - I ended up signing up with Australian Tan and now pay $49/mo. for the exact same service. Thanks Utopia for saving me $20/mo.! read more

They have state of the art beds, and frequently change the bulbs so I always receive a dark, quick, and fabulous tan. They have really affordable prices, even student discounts, and better yet your first tanning visit is buy one get one free! The beds are always clean and they have an excellent selection of the highest quality lotions. Utopia offers a UV free tanning booth, also known as Mystic Tanning. They machine sprays you four times so you get super even coverage, unlike many other places that just spray your front and back. The mystic cartridges are individual and come in three shades light, medium, and dark. They also offer a wide range of spa services including great Waxes, luxurious Massages, Laser Hair Removal, Microdermabrasion, Chemical Peels, even Hair Extensions! Tiffany, the manager was extremely helpful, kind and we engaged in a great conversation. I have been tanning here every summer for five years. The staff is always polite and friendly with the exception of the woman who does the airbrush tanning. I've never seen her smile and she gives off a very negative vibe, like you are bothering her by coming in to tan even though she is not performing any service for you. The Mystic machine seems to break every few months which is pretty inconvenient -- why the owners don't purchase another Mystic machine is a mystery as it is so popular, I have to wait every time I want to use it. I have learned over the years to call in advance and ask 1) if the Mystic is working, and 2) how many people are in line before me, just so I know what to expect. read more

I recently (as in, like two days ago) signed up for a tanning package. It is close by where I work which was a main selling point. There is nothing noteworthy of the place itself- it is nice, organized and clean. The girl that I signed up with was VERY friendly and helpful. She spent a good 15-20 minutes explaining the beds and all the different packages to choose from. I haven't done a lot of indoor tanning in California, but the prices here seem reasonable for what you get. When I went to use the bed for the first time, the girl at the front (different from the girl I signed up with) was also friendly. The bed itself was nice and there was a good size fan so I didn't feel like I was getting too hot or sweaty while using it. There are many different tanning places to choose from and so far I feel like I made the right choice by using Utopia. read more

The three that i have tried (Which will remain nameless) did not work for me at all because I get anxiety getting into enclosed spaces, and the salons I went to were dark, dirty, and creepy. Utopia is hands down THE BEST place in the bay area!! My first time there one of the girls game me a tour, went over all the pricing and specials...she really went in to detail and made me feel welcome :) I ended up purchasing a one year package, unlimited Mystic tanning and bed tanning! Since then Utopia is where I get my waxing, facials and massages! They have everything!!! The staff is unbelievable, they are so nice, every one of the girls takes the time to help explain and give suggestions!! I have been to Suzan and Amanda for the waxing and facials, I highly recommend them!! And Deena is an amazing massage therapist!! I have been to other tanning salons before places like: Glo Tanning and Planet Beach and they haven't come close to the way Utopia runs their business. Utopia is really clean, the girls seem very knowledgeable about all aspects of the salon and the envoirnment is really welcoming. If you haven't been to Utopia, you really should! They have new specials every month and the girls are really helpful! I've run into the owner before and she seems really great! I have been coming here for roughly 2 months and will never return due to how the manager treated her staff. The girl working the front desk was my personal favorite - the salon is always clean and well run when she is working. However, the manager (I assume that is her role) came in and began yelling at her for no apparent reason... while I was in the waiting room. I felt extremely uncomfortable and immediately left without receiving my tan. To the manager - stop treating your staff like trash! No one wants to see someone be treated so poorly. read more
