Like I always say,…read moreI hate showing up to someone's house empty handed so I popped open Yelp on my phone and found this awesome meat shop. It's a bit hard to find as it's actually inside a larger grocery store... so once you walk into the entrance, head all the way to the back and to the right (not to be confused with the deli meat counter, go passed that). I got 2lbs of NY Strip steak and they were cut perfectly. I used a cast iron pan, put it on high heat and I let it get reallly hot as I prepped the steaks (while watching a youtube steak cooking tutorial at the same time... it's always helpful to have a reminder). I patted the steaks dry, added some grinded pink himalayan salt, pepper and garlic and seared them over some ghee butter for about 3 minutes on each side. I overdid them a little bit as I tried gettting fancy and covered it with another pan for about a minute. Next time I'll probably skip that step but all in all, it came out delicious! My friends were pretty impressed with my youtube cooking skills but there's always room for improvement. Oh and I forgot to mention the best part... their customer service! When I went to pay I realized I left my wallet at home and they were totally going to hold the steak for me for when I got back. Luckily, they also took apple pay so I was good to go, but I really appreciated that they didn't scoff or make it a big deal! I told my buddy who lives in the area all about them and he's excited to give them a try himself. While I wasn't a fan of the grocery store (it seemed like none of the customers there had an aisle manners), I can't blame them for that.

During this time I made crab cakes, Crab Louie salad, crab Benedict for brunch, salmon and some super fancy scallops. Schlesinger said you would have to make sure to message him for the scallops. He had no idea how popular they were. During the holidays I treated my self to some salmon but also smoked trout dip. The dip was an absolute decadence on a Ritz cracker. Made that time extra special! I like cooking salmon simply, making a grilled veggie and mashed potatoes. Gives me the feels of a fancy restaurant but it's at home and it's so much cheaper. And this summer the left over salmon on a bed of spinach with peaches and avocados is a must! The shop is small. If you are a regular meat lover this is the place. It's local and fresh. Reminds me a lot of the butcher shops in Germany. Everyone is always super friendly and helpful! It's always super organized too. Everything has its place. The neighborhood loves the shop and you can see the support. Secretly we love living in one of the world's largest cities but getting those small town vibez.

I walked through this whole place with someone else, giggling with glee. I saw meat bread (lard bread), I saw a deli counter with delicious cold cuts & ham nobody pronounces right, and homemade salads, and smiling friendly folks behind the counter, and fresh SMOKED mozzarella (motz), which I've been missing ever since I moved to Jersey. This store has an eclectic variety of shelf stable products, a Deli Dept. that has American, Italian, Polish cold cuts, and salads. The guys that slice the cold cuts are experts; each slice is evenly cut, and the way you asked. There is a separate meat market in the back, with an "Old-world" style butcher. Their produce section is amazing. It's the world wide selection of fresh produce, herbs, and vegetables that is truly amazing. Keep your Translator app open. Many of the cans & bottles are in the native language from the country where they are produced. The experience is akin to being in a market in another country. The staff somehow keeps the shelves and bins filled, actually know what they are handling, and they can answer a question. There's a navigator that keeps the check-out line moving. The prices on most items are very inexpensive, almost from 20 years ago and the quality is comparable to one of those upscale supermarkets.
