I made appointments for dip mani and pedicure. I arrived 10-minutes before my appointment. I selected my color then sat in the front for an additional 20-minutes. Once in the chair, the technician was quick and efficient in completion of my pedicure. My nails were completed just as efficient. But service is not the problem, it is circuses. They know their regulars and cater to them. I observed the coddle and delight as the provided services to their regulars. Helped them with jackets, jewelry I and shoes. The rest of us were left to remove our salon slippers and find a trash receptacle then put on our shoes alone. That would have been the end of their interest in me if I did not have to pay for my services. At check out I realized I could have saved 5% by paying cash. Unfortunately they did not tell me. I had to pay and extra 1.7 % because I use a card. This would have been something to tell people when they texted my appointment confirmation or mention during my 30-minute wait. The price increase not posted when I visited the salon in March 2022. Another circus not shared with those who are not regulars. Definitely a good place for quality service - if you are a regular. The rest of us may want to look for a place that sees all customers as worth of the same level of service as the regulars. Could have gotten 2 mor stars but leaving me to trash my own slippers and the 1.7% service fee got those stars. read more

** 5 stars for the person who did my dip nails did a really good job, was quick and efficient. Other than that this place gets 0 stars if it was an option!!! I went to get a a gel pedi and my appointment was at 5:10pm - I picked out the color I wanted from their selection and the tech told me she couldnt find the color I wanted this happened twice so I settled for another color. when she started my pedi she ended up telling me she found the original color i wanted so I felt better about getting it the pedi. the tech was nice but she had no idea what she was doing. she didnt ask how short i wanted her to cut my nails and she took for ever. At first she grabed the wrong type of nail polish so she had to remove it and start over, then she kept messing up and having to clean it off and start again. that would of been fine if they came out nice but they did not. the color she gave me did not match the one shown in the sample and at that point i wasnt going to sit through another process of her changing it. when I got home I realized that 2 of my nails werent even filed evenly and for getting a pedi my feet felt worse than when I went in. I was there for over 3 hours and that was due to the tech doing my Pedi. the icing on the cake was a day later i looked at my toes and realized that the gel no chip came off completly on my pinky toe and I was leaving for vacation the next day so couldnt go back and get it fixed. while on vacation the polish came completly off 3 other toes. this was all within a week of getting them done. Im sorry but you should not have techs learning on clients when they are paying $50.00 for a no chip pedi for them to come off within a week and come out horrible. such a waste of my time and money. bottom line, the tech that did my dip was great but id stay away from this place for pedicures! read more

I made an appointment and was taken right away. The gentleman who checked me in was very nice, but the lady doing my mani pedi was very rude and rough. She would yank my hands and feet and made me feel incredibly rushed. I left with bloody cuticles and uneven fingernails. Less than 24hrs later the polish had chipped. I can't bring myself to rate the salon any lower than a 4, because I come here regularly and my dip manicures are always wonderful. That being said, I got my second pedicure here yesterday and the girl was struggling quite a bit. When using the sponge to scrub the bottom of my feet, she scrubbed the outer side causing my skin to break open and even bleed. She only did the heel and that side part, which didn't happen last time. I then had to sit there with my foot in the water burning while she did my other foot. I'm soft spoken and didn't say anything at the time, but it's now a little swollen and I felt I had to warn others. It's not that I'd never get a pedicure there again, just going to pick my tech ahead of time (which I usually don't do because everyone has been wonderful!) so overall recommend this place, just be ready to speak up for yourself potentially! read more

I came in on Saturday morning for a fill in because I had to do my nails for an event. Initially the man who did my nails did a fine job and I was pretty happy. A few hours after I left, my thumb started chipping. Later in the day, my OTHER thumb started chipping. I was very annoyed because my nails have never chipped this quickly, even when I'm not getting gel. I came in as soon as they opened on Sunday because I had a flight early in the afternoon. Luckily they took me immediately and helped me fix my nails. The lady doing my nails was pretty nice but she kept implying that my nails chipped because I didn't put my hand in the UV machine properly. Fine, except I've gotten my nails done hundreds of times across the US and this has never happened. She fixed my nails quickly and they looked good. Fast forward to Monday morning. Went in for a dip manicure instead of no chip because I didn't want to use the UV light. Tech applied multiple layers of dip and then did gel on top which needed the UV light. My nails came out really thick. Service has been hit or miss here. My nails get filed too much that it's painful or my nails get bruised. I decided to go to another salon to get them removed and redone. When they finally got all of the layers off, two of nails were bruised. I really wanted to like V nails but not worth getting my nails damaged. read more

I live about a one minute drive from this salon and had not visited since new ownership took over. I came in on 5/14 for a no chip and a pedicure. A young female nail tech (didn't catch the name) started working on me. She was obsessed with trying to get something out of the corner of my toe to the point where it bled. The massage was mediocre and lasted about a minute. I had to tell her to try and smooth out my heel a little better as it was rough but she didn't do much to address it. The no chip was again just ordinary. She didn't do a great job of cleaning the cuticles. She used a very thin file on my pinky finger to round out the edges and with a sharp swipe, she cut my finger and it bled. Yes, that's twice. Overall, a painful experience. I hope they get better because it's so close and convenient for me, but no one wants to go to a nail salon and bleed! I was still charged the full price of $55 despite the pain. She just kept saying I'm sorry and put a drop of some blue ointment on my bleeding toe and finger. To top it off, I still left a tip. I would suggest having the manager check with the customer before they leave and ask how the experience was. On the plus side, the place was clean and the gentleman that answered the phone was nice. read more

Had a great experience here my first time. I walked in for a pedi, there was no wait. A lady took me right away and first thing offered me water and gave me the pedi/mani menu. She was very sweet and made sure I was comfortable in the massage chair. I've been to several places where the tech shuts off the massage chair because they can't do their job. The nail tech took her time to clean up my toes, buff them, the massage was so relaxing. She was so careful to not irritate some blisters I had from heels. In total I was there over an hour for my pedi and I loved it. Place is clean, polite staff, accommodating. Definitely coming back again! Nail techs name was Atiah ("Ah-tee-ah"). When she arrived she requested a soak off of an old set which had been refilled multiple times and the acrylic was thick. So naturally the soak off takes time to preserve the strength and health of her natural nail. While she was soaking another customer came into the shop. And to maximize productivity while she was soaking the nail tech decided to begin services for that customer while frequently returning to check on Summer T progress. She became angry and irate and started to curse the workers out and calling them "racist". I Am a BLACK woman and they have NEVER treated anyone any differently! First of all, in comparison to other salons they are overpriced, and for the services I received here I literally feel robbed. I got a fill in, eyebrow wax and pedicure and I had to go back over my eyebrows at home and my nails still are not the shape I asked for. I came in with a shape and said I wanted to keep that shape of nail- just shorter. I prefer my nails to be rounded and tapered. The gentleman doing my nails kept them square and I asked him to reshape several times. At one point, my nail shapes and lengths didn't match one another at all- some were round, some were rounded square and my thumbs were a few centimeters in different lengths in addition to their different shapes and the gentleman was going to leave them that way and I had to ask him several times to at the very least match the length. Right now I still feel like my nails are not what I asked for. In addition, when I walked in I said the services I was requesting and I'm not sure if the man didn't hear me but he was trying to have me pay for my nails and I let him know I'm still in need of a pedicure and eyebrow wax and he looked surprised and said something in another language to the other technicians and they were laughing and saying eyebrow wax in English. As we headed back I asked what was so funny about me asking for an eyebrow wax and he was like , "oh nothing." So then when I came back for a pedicure the peanut gallery was laughing again saying another word in English.. pedicure. Obviously, I think it's safe to assume that they were talking about me. It was so uncomfortable and disrespectful and I have never, ever had treatment like this in any nail salon. I took the day off to celebrate my birthday to treat myself and relax but really I just paid over $50 to get ugly shaped nails, eyebrows that I had to finish tweezing myself and to get berated all because when I walked in apparently nobody cared enough to listen fully to what I asked for. On my way out they offered me a loyalty stamp card and I declined and let them know I will not be back to them. This was by far the most uncomfortable and awful experience I have ever had. I have never been treated so poorly. This is the service industry and you shouldn't talk about your clients. And even if they weren't talking about me, I am curious to how they would explain all the laughing right after I told the man I'm still needing more services, and then every time I walked past. Maybe the staff there should think about how they portray themselves to the clients- would you want to feel awful and like you're being talked about when you get a service done? YEARS AGO Businesses could get away with what happened at this place YESTERDAY, but now, THANKS TO YELP, they can no longer get away with this kind of thing!! Senior Living Residents in their 70's, 80's, 90's, even 100's, don't very often travel around town to do things or have services like getting their nails done, because they are always VERY TIRED, and in many cases, weak & feeble. BUT WHEN THEY DO VENTURE OUT, it is a HUGE deal to them. This was the case with a lady who made an appointment ONE WEEK IN ADVANCE here at V Nails. She had a 10:00am appointment, which is when V Nails is supposed to open & begin their day. We arrived a little early, at 9:52 am. But it seemed reasonable to wait, especially given the fact that she had waited all week for this appointment to get her acrylic nails done. As we waited a Daughter/Mother couple showed up, also with a scheduled 10:00 am appointment. The Mother said they had booked theirs last night, after extensive Internet research done by her daughter, which the Mother seemed proud to share how great her child was at researching places to patronize. "This place got some great reviews" she said. We waited the rest of the minutes until opening time (10:00 am), when all of us started to notice that V Nails was still dark inside with ZERO SIGNS OF LIFE OR ACTIVITY. The OPEN sign unlit. No stand-up signs that usually adorn the sidewalk in front of their shop. As time ticked away, each minute of growing frustration started morphing into outright anger! HOW DOES A BUSINESS THAT HAS APPOINTMENTS TO OPERATE, NOT HONOR THE APPOINTMENT TIME? The Mother and Daughter both decided to find their second choice to get their nails done. The time was 10:07 am. We tried calling V Nails, but of course there was no answer. All of us had tried knocking on the door, in the hope maybe someone was in the back, yet, even in the dark. Nothing. As it neared 10:10 am and no signs of life my Senior Living Resident became very upset and said "Let's just leave, this is ridiculous" I agreed with her statement and tried to find her a different place, but without an appointment she would have to wait longer than the time she had available to get her nails done. So she was returned back to the assisted living/nursing home facility, defeated and very upset. Since I was in the area about 40 minutes later, I decided to drop in and at the very least find out why this happened, or perhaps get not only their apology, but a future discount I thought was in order as well. Seniors like most of us, love discounts! IMAGINE MY SHOCK AND OUTRAGE (which still has yet to leave me a day later!!) WHEN THE WOMAN BEHIND THE COUNTER LOOKED ME IN THE EYE AND SAID "Oh, We Were Here, We Opened On Time". I WAS SO ANGRY IT TOOK ALL I HAD IN ME TO NOT CURSE OR SCREAM AT HER, as I said "Is that a joke?" And I then told her the fact of how two of their 10am appointments, one being the Senior Citizen who had the appointment for over a week, had left, VERY upset!! She insisted on looking at me and continued to bs, saying they were there on time. To which one employee lady piped in saying "I was here at 10:05" "NO YOU WERE NOT!! I said with anger in my voice but still subdued considering the rage they were building in me, "THERE WAS NO ANSWER AT THE DOOR, COMPLETE DARKNESS, NOBODY HERE, AS WE LEFT AT TEN MINUTES AFTER WHEN YOU WERE SUPPOSED TO BE OPEN AND HONORING YOUR APPOINTMENTS." I just couldn't believe the audacity of these people!! Was it they couldn't "lose face" in front of the customers waiting in the lobby, and admit they were wrong, or they didn't know HOW to apologize, or just too cheap to offer a warranted discount to enhance an apology, or were they actually racist against Caucasians, or was it simply that they were just so brazen and arrogant knowing there was nothing we could do about it; and they have plenty of clientele already, so who needs a new customer, type of terrible attitude? Perhaps all of the above; but I knew I had better get the heck out of their before my emotions got the best of me. They essentially, without actually saying the words, were calling ME a liar!! Then as I left I realized my one only real recourse was to do what I hoped the Internet Savvy Daughter would be doing- Simply explaining to the world and the other millions of Chicagoland Residents, Seniors and All; what had just taken place at V Nails in Des Plaines. I can only hope that enough of their potential new clients and maybe even some of their repeat customers feel our outrage and make them accountable for their rude and unprofessional behavior !! I know about 100 Senior Citizen Ladies who will not be patronizing them. And many more as I cannot stop telling others about what happened until the rage subsides. I am literally still in shock!!! I was really looking forward to my vacation day and was going to spoil myself with a hot stone spa pedicure. I called ahead to see if I needed and appointment and they said yes. Perfect, set one up for 12:30 and granted I was 5 min late, but I sat in the chair until 1pm! (minus a star) As the tech finally started to work on me, she had to walk away to check out a customer (understandable). Then she walks away again to turn on TV, check phones and decides this is the perfect time to stand and text on her cell. That's incredibly rude and unprofessional (minus another star). The relaxing leg massage was a joke, barely lasted a minute and my feet weren't even touched, just my calves rubbed up and down. She was rubbing very foul smelling oil and I later found out it's candle oil? What in the world is that? I was burned by hot water, hot stones and then the hot towel. Seriously, this was just it for me (minus third star for the products used). This technician must be new and must have tried her best, but I felt like this isn't worth $38. Should have trusted my intuition and went to a place right by my house. Sorry guys, but I won't be back. read more

So today I came in for a pedicure, a full set acrylic, and an eyebrow wax. The nails were not great. Jessica was super sweet and I hate to write this- my nail experience wasn't great at all. Some of my natural nails are really short, so I know it isn't completely her fault- but she applied the glue directly to my fingers instead of evenly spreading it on the nail before application. So when she pressed the nail down, the glue seeped onto my skin and it dried onto my skin. It isn't painful but it's definitely uncomfortable. At other salons I've visited, they'd evenly spread it on the nail before application so it wouldn't seep onto my fingers. And she didn't seem to be paying full attention while putting on the nails, but instead turned around a couple times to talk to other workers while doing it. So they looked crooked to me. I pointed it out and she said she still had to shape them- but even now the shapes of my nails look a little uneven and crooked. There was no cuticle work done at all. Then while buffering the nails, she accidentally cut my finger causing it to bleed. She was caring and kept asking if I was okay, but didn't do much to aid to the cut. She put a green liquid on it then put glue over it. It's been causing me discomfort and a little burn sensation all day. I hoped I would get some sort of discount for it, but I still had to pay the full price & I did go on to tip everybody anyway. My eyebrow waxing did go very well though. The crooked-ness of my nails, the heavy glue feeling, and the cut on my pinky kind of ruined the nail experience for me. I would come back for a waxing, but not for nails. Let me just add that in under 24 hours after the visit, I began developing an infection on my feet. It gradually got worse over a couple days so I informed the spa, and they put all the blame on me- then proceeded to ignore me! Gross, rude, and shouldn't be open. Im greatly disappointed. I scheduled an appt with a specific person and they completely disregarded that and just sat me with someone random. So I said something - and they brush me off and say it's someone else doing my nails today. Manager or someone comes to me and apologizes 15 minutes later and I agree and say I just wish someone would have communicated that with me. It continues to get worse- I scheduled my appt with a specific person because I do not like someone scraping off my gel polish before it's ready - it's PAINFUL. And this person proceeds to do so. I ask to stop and he brushes it off. At this point I'm just gritting my teeth and trying to get through this because I only have one day off a week right now (in the medical field) and this was the only day I could get my nails done. Next - he paints my nails the wrong color. An entire shade lighter than I want. I stop and say this is the wrong color - he says this is a good color and it is very fall. I say it's way lighter than what I want - I wanted shade 38 and he did shade 37. He doesn't reply and just continues on. I gave 2 stars for my previous experience with Nail tech Henry- he is amazing. I have never found a nail salon that treats the customers with so much respect and truly care about what the customer thinks. I usually go to the place across the street but they were completely booked so I thought I would give this place a try. Lesson learned, next time I'll just make sure I make an appointment at nail bliss. My mani was sloppy, cuticles barely cut. The polish was basically leaking out beyond my nails for both my mani and pedi. The whole thing took less than 40 min so before I even got to relax she was done.
