Getting your nails done here is NOT a meditation.......... I'm pretty confused on the reviews read so far as I had a very negative experience here yesterday. I have two bleeding cuts carved on my finger from when she filed my nails (and repeatedly kept carving despite me obviously being in pain) not to mention, in general this is one of the worst nail shapes I've ever received for $65 of acrylics and gel. I seriously do not recommend unless you want stinging & infected fingers and wish I would've gone anywhere else the day before my college graduation rarely have negative reviews, but this one had to be shared. read more

I had a very nice experience at this salon and got my nails well done by Kim. Specifically, I got moderate length gel acrylic nails with a slightly sharpened style nail tip. I was very specific for tip style, length, and color. Kim was very accommodating and detail-oriented, which I super appreciated! The salon felt clean, neat, and organized. I also think it is nicely decorated which contributes positively to the experience. The small lobby area had bottled water, coffee, and tea, along with some mints/candy which is a nice touch. Expect street parking, but there is usually plenty nearby. There is also a Dunn Bros coffee right around the corner so the location is great for grabbing a to-go drink and then heading for some enjoyable salon time. I love the way my nails turned out and the staff members were very nice. This is not a cheap salon but I feel the quality, attention to detail, and the environment is worth the price and seems fair. I paid $55 for my nails to be done and added a tip. I certainly recommend this salon, and plan on going back for the next time my nails need attention. read more

Usually when you walk in an hour to close, most employees would be a bit irked and do a sloppy, rushed job. However, coming in at 7pm on a Monday night, I was welcomed with kind smiles and amazing service. While I didn't catch the nail technician's name, she paid great attention to my dip manicure, making sure my nails were even lengths, well-shaped and the color vibrant. I'm not huge on writing reviews but I've been to quite a few nail salons and this is definitely one of my favourites. Every time I've been here I've been blown away by the amount of care the technicians give me. The place is also quite affordable. I recently moved to the area and was super excited to find a nail salon with such high reviews! I got a full set of gel acrylics by one of the "best" at the salon and was really disappointed. I almost never write negative reviews but I haven't even had my nails on for 2 weeks and half of them have fully fallen off /: not chipped off or peeled off but fully just popped off as if they were cheap plastic press ons. The service I received felt very rushed, which at the time I saw as fast and effective, but it was clear to me as soon as I left the salon the nails were uneven shapes, and some were thicker than others, both things I could live with. But when I started to notice my nails lifting on the edges not even a week after having them it was really discouraging. The staff at V-Nails were lovely and I truly enjoyed chatting with them and getting to know them however, I am not equipped to spend $70 on nails that barely last 7 days. read more

Got my nails done 3 wks ago, but waited to write my review so I could see how they held up. A sweet and friendly lady named Mary did my gel manicure. I liked that she paid attention to details, ensuring that she got the corners and removed any fiber on the nail before the gel was cured. Some manicurist, don't care with such level of details. My nails looked great the first week. I took special care during this time to protect them and avoid doing anything that would cause damage. Unfortunately, by the start of the second week they went from looking great, to good, and eventually to okay with chips and cracks (at this point protecting them was no longer a concern). Overall the manicure lasted about 2.5 wks despite looking a bit messed up towards the end (expected). That said, I would certainly give them another try as I did enjoy the service, and really loved my nails during week 1. On another note, they were pretty busy, which is expected for a Saturday afternoon. However, although my friend and I had a 1pm appointment I wasn't seen until 1:20pm-ish and she...about 10mins later. The salon looked well kept (clean and up-to-date) and the employees overall friendly. I would recommend the salon. read more

I had a nice experience at V Stars! The woman who did my nails was very kind and pleasant. My manicure and pedicure were both pretty simple. I don't tend to go too extravagant and just look for something simple with good quality. Something that will last and will be done well. I feel like I found that here. The only thing I didn't enjoy was that there wasn't too wide a variety of colors to choose from for gel or dip. That's an easy fix but one I do think would benefit this business. I did end up leaving with something I enjoyed but I think making this pivot would bring me back in the doors more often. My bestie took me here for birthday pedicures. I'm not somebody who gets my nails done very often - I've gotten manicures or pedicures maybe 6 times? I usually do a hack job on my own nails at home while watching a movie in the dark. Going here makes me think I should do this more often! We got some swanky deluxe verison of the pedicures they offer. I don't know exactly what it was, as the menu options they presented in the salon were different from what they listed on the website. Plus my friend, since she was treating for my birthday, made the choices. The leg and foot massages were to die for, as were the super intense massage chairs (!!!) we sat it. I don't know why massage chairs aren't standard practice for pedicures, but they totally should be. My friend, who is a doctor, was really impressed when she watched the staff clean a pedicures station between clients. And the ladies did an amazing job on my toes! The salon seems a little chaotic, but it's clear that the woman running the show knows exactly what she's doing and exactly how to shuffle her staff around from client to client to expedite service. The language barrier can present a little bit of a challenge, but nothing that can't be managed with patience and a smile. I will happily return here for a pedicure in the future. read more

RUDE RUDE RUDE. Never ever going back here. They deny me service because i complained that acrylics and a simple design took them hours and hours and hours. It look good at the end of it all but wasn't worth the pain they put me through and sheer rudeness when it's not my fault that they assigned me some woman who doesn't know what she's doing and needed the manager to step in. As soon as I lied and changed my Yelp review to be better, they agreed to see me but only on the condition that any services rendered there needed to only take one hour... which is impossible for when I need a replacement set of acrylics. I challenged this by asking about what they expect me to do for a full set replacement and color and they had no answer. Communication here is almost impossible FYI. Plus they're rude while working on me, pulling and twisting my hands and sort of yelling at me when i didn't know how the acrylic process works since I'm super new to this world CONCLUSION: go anywhere but here, seriously. I don't know why they have good reviews at all. Go anywhere in uptown and I guarantee better quality and if you go to Mahalo Nail Salon in uptown as well, the not only give nail art the artistry backj, but are also super gentle and very easy to communicate. read more

I have a few friends in the South Minneapolis neighborhoods that love coming here so I decided to check it out. I called a few days ahead to make an appointment just in case it was busy. There were only a handful of people there and no wait for a Monday night. I got seated right away. The salon was very clean and there were plenty of chairs for when it does get busy. They had a million colors of gel and regular nail polish. My technician was so meticulous with trimming my cuticles and painting my nails. I was highly impressed with the attention to detail from beginning to end, and I especially liked the hand and shoulder massage at the end. My gel mani was $31 and they prefer you pay with cash. Fair price for their services. Pro tip: There is only street parking so plan to walk a block or so. read more

I had started seeing Van a few years ago at Honey Nails...then I actually moved away and wasn't able to see her. She has let me know a while ago that she had opened her own salon, so when I was in Minneapolis to visit family and friends I made sure to coordinate a time to get my nails done. Her salon is beautiful and clean and in a great location, just a few blocks off 50th and France. I was a little concerned about parking since my appt was right around rush hour, but there were tons of street spots all around the block she's located on. Van herself is the best in the Twin cities...she's kind and friendly and always makes sure you're happy with your nails before you leave. I'm extremely picky with my nails...I religiously get my acrylics filled and a gel pedi done every 2 weeks and wow do I really wish I still lived in MN just so Van could do my nails! She has an excellent selection of colors both gel and regular. I never wanted to pay extra for gel, but when I first started seeing Van she suggested trying gel and I haven't been able to go back to regular since. It's 100% worth the extra money! I highly recommend Van and I'm sure any of the nail techs that work at her salon hold the same work ethic as she does. I'm so excited and happy for her! read more

I just got my nails done at V- Stars Nails yesterday. Less than one day later my nails are already peeling off. I get my nails done one every two weeks. I tried a new place (V- Stars nail). I get dip nails every time. Once again I got my normal dip nails, instead of just doing just dip they added a clear gel coat on top to make it shiny. Less than one day later this gel coat is already peeling off and leaving my nails matted, bumpy, and overall gross. My nail technician was very sweet and kind but my nails are horrendous. I am very upset and sad with the outcome especially from my nail technician hospitality at the salon. read more

I flew to Mpls for a wedding and went to V-star nails to have my nails done. I brought my own polish, but they talked me into getting a gel polish on my fingernails, explaining that it would last so much longer it's also much more expensive so I did what they suggested snd it was a complete disaster. The day after the wedding one entire gel paint came off the nail I went back because we were still in Minneapolis and they fixed it and the next day on the flight another nail came off and then every day after that another gel polish fell to the point where I ended up with four French tip nails and 6 nails with no color on them at all. I paid $65 for them to do that. I sent a letter with pictures and asked for my money back and they didn't even respond. When a business doesn't take responsibility when they make a mistake I know I will never go back and I'm writing this to warn people they don't care if they do a good job. Novice nail salon patron here! I live right down the street and thought the reviews warranted a visit. I opted for the deluxe pedi with hot stones. The scrub was very relaxing and while the stones we're shockingly hot to start, ended up being really nice! She was very patient as I looked through the multitude of color options. One downside is that the polish samples aren't labeled very well and I ended up choosing two gel colors accidentally. This was okay, but would have been nice to know before committing to the color. The polish looks great, but I do have a scrape on my big toe from the file. Mani was fine and the shoulder massage was a nice added bonus! A gel mani/pedi is advertised at $80. My total came out to $96. I had read that they will take credit cards for service, but you have to tip in cash. Maybe they tack on a gratuity if you pay with a card? If that's the case she didn't mention it when I passed her a cash tip. It was not a bad experience and the staff was kind and friendly, but I'm on the fence about going back. read more

I am so excited her shop is finally open, she has a great staff and the location is great!!! Update: I've continued seeing Van at her new salon every two weeks... I've switched it up from my classic short as possible manicure with shellac to a full set of acrylics with shellac and they look SO good!! Van is not only the master of the mani but she is also queen of a great acrylics which is getting much harder to find these days. Her selection of polish choices is great especially with the color changing polish (pictured) I've never gotten so many compliment on my nails in my life!! I went in with my sister to get a full set with pink powder (apparently it lasts longer and sticks to the side of the nails better). We live in eden prairie but make the drive out to Edina because we have loved the service and the outcome from V star nails. We made an appointment, but due to the snow we arrived about ten minutes late. The staff was very accommodating and was still able to see us promptly. The shape, length, and appearance came out wonderfully :). We were in and out within the hour. Both of our nail techs were so sweet and gave us exactly what we wanted! I would highly recommend V start nails and it is most definitely worth the drive. Side note: there is only street parking but we were able to find a spot right away. Used to be a great place last 2 times now they took so many walk in my service was cut short and quality really went down, yet prices still high. This time I was left waiting 30min while 3 walk ins came in and after 90min I got a basic pedicure and no manicure before my time was up.
