I was lucky to get a fantastic, good and kind doctor (she is actually one of the best and is too good to be working there), the problem is that she is misrepresented by a poor, lazy and rude front desk clerk woman and lazy nursing staff. Nice big new building. No sign for where dermatology is. No one at the large help desk. I came about 11. Finally found out it is on the second floor. Very few elevators for a VA center. Very poor planning. Amazingly long line for checkin at the desk for appointment. A vet in the waiting room area suggested the kiosk. No sign to do so. Kiosk is not in a noticeable place. Paper for the printer on the Kiosk was out. I was seen ahead of my appointment and didn't have to wait for the doctor to see me. While the doctor wanted me back in 3 months, nothing was available within that time. In the morning there is complementary snacks and coffee. Book loaner cart near the front door. Plenty of disabled parking. read more

So... I have gone to a few different VA clinics in my life, after a bunch of years in the infantry. As far as patients go, I think I am pretty good. I do what I'm told, I am nice and polite, and I don't argue with my docs. In return, however, I expect my doc to listen to what I'm saying, empathize with my concerns, and actually read what's in my record, since there's a lot in there. I need to preface this by saying that everything you've ever heard about the VA is absolutely true. It takes months to get an appointment, is almost impossible to see a specialist, the medication you're prescribed might kill you (as happened when the VA murdered a good friend of mine last year), and the only thing people at the VA are thinking about is how to cover their own asses and cut costs. It is absolutely true, and I rue every day that I have to go to the VA for any kind of appointment. All of that changed when I started coming to this clinic. A lot of people working here seem to be combat veterans of some kind. This is the first thing that absolutely makes a world of difference. Just about everyone I've ever interacted with at this location wants to help you out. This is the only doctor's office I've ever been to where you can ask any staffer a stupid question, and they'll answer it and point you in the right direction. I've been through a bunch of the services here at this location, and have only run into one problem person, who also happened to be the primary care doc they assigned me to when I first started coming here. That person is part of the VA system which exists outside the bubble of this clinic, and needs to be fired, but I feel like even with the snafu created by having to deal with that awful doctor, all I had to was file a single form called a Transfer of Care form, and 24 hours later, I had been assigned to a new doc, and given a new appointment. I really hope I'm not jinxing myself with this review, but I've been here more than a dozen times now, and it seems to be a legitimate exception to the rule about how shitty and awful VA clinics are. This place is great. I only wish that the people who wrote bad reviews were able to get their particular issues sorted out, and I hope that in the future they're treated to the VA clinic that I have experienced here. read more

I know the VA has had a lot of issues and bad media lately but they have ALWAYS done well by me and only seem to be improving. This clinic is by far the best experience I've had. These people really care. They have even called me and left messages just to check on me and my progress. My shrink is Dr. Brian Drew and he even gave me his cell number so I can contact him anytime of the day, any day if I need it, incredible. I've dealt with depression issues most of vladimir putinmy adult life and take meds to control it. I'm not afraid to admit that I have depression and it can be a very debilitating issue to live with at times if your not actively controlling it before it controls you. Finding the right medication takes some work but once you get it right you see the world differently and in a better light. Thanks for your help Dr. Drew, keep it up!!! read more

Great location, easy access from Sprinter or NCTD. People and doctor are very nice and helpful. I went to the old location in Vista... This place is 100 times better. I just walked in, no appt, to get a flu shot without a problem. The lab is bigger than the VA hospital in La Jolla and the tech's are good. read more

What a beautiful clinic and amazing people caring for our vets!! Took my husband there for an appointment and the facility is beautiful, state of the art with many services under one roof. We transferred from another facility because this is much closer but we would drive the extra distance, totally worth the drive to beautiful Oceanside!! read more

I had Blue Cross Blue Shield for 25 years in the private sector, the very best of private insurance and care. The VA system, especially the Oceanside Clinic, far outshines any service in the private sector. The staff and doctors are caring and the appointments are always ON TIME... no waiting if you have an appointment. I am proud to be a Veteran. read more

I cannot say enough good things about this clinic. I have received nothing but top notch, courtesy care. The medical staff have been on top of things every step of the way. Had a great experience here with Primary Care and Physical Therapy. Physical therapist was the best--very personable and just all around a good person. She really helped my Mom get back a lot of motion after a joint replacement surgery. We were able to get my Mom's appointments scheduled at convenient times without any issues. I feel bad for the veterans that are experiencing roadblocks to get healthcare. I think we haven't had much difficulty, even when transferring to new locations, because my Mom has been in the system for over 20 years. read more

Dr. Kolavala is my primary care physician. He literally saved my life by sending me to the VA Hospital in La Jolla for a stress test on the treadmill. I had a heart attack on the treadmill and bypass surgery three days later. I have received excellent care at both the VA Oceanside Clinic and the VA Hospital in La Jolla. read more

I hear Vets who've complained about VA services and feel I am the lucky one. I have been to three facilities from California to Arizona and they all were excellent. The best one is in California, Oceanside in particular. My primary doctor is great and highly thought of. I moved to Arizona and continue to keep her as my primary, and don't mind the travel to see her. For this, I have always given the VA high remarks. Does the VA have problems, yes just like any other facility, but I believe they are better than most and will eventually solve all existing problems. Give it time, because change doesn't come overnight. If we all do our part and give valuable feedback, only then can the system began to work best for you as intended. Anyone in or near the VA Oceanside Clinic, I recommend you checking this one out, and recommend Dr. K. Bell. read more

I have been a long time 100 percent disabled veteran that has been receiving treatment form both the La Jolla VA and the Oceanside VA. I am tired of the people that are whining about having to wait for a long period of time. The treatment that they offer is first class and Dr. Stephen Ho of the La Jolla VA saved my life by catching my Hepatitis C in time. I am now at the Sorrento Valley VA and my Primary Care Physician is outstanding. If they had a rating system that could give more than a five I would give it. This is my second trip to this facility. I have always had a great trip here as well as easy parking that is close in. Both times (to different clinics) my appointments were on time and done in a timely manner. It is clean and shiny as any hospital I have been to, The staff is attentive and answered all my questions. Due to traffic congestion going from north county to the main hospital makes this my first pick. read more
