I have been driving past this store for over 14 years, it's practically an institution in town. I'm dumbfounded no one has reviewed this place yet. Anyway, I wanted to start sewing again and decided to have my 30 years old plus Kenmore serviced. I needed everything oiled, cleaned, and lubed -- in the classic car world this is known as detailing -- the whole nine yards. If you want someone who knows about anything having to do with sewing machines or vacuum cleaners, go and see Joe. This gem of a shop is like going back in time. It's not one those slick and glamorous Mall stores but is kinda like something you'd find in Mayberry (the Andy Griffith show). Lots of machines in various states of repair, new merchandise for sale and the comforting smells of cleaners and such since the actual work is done in store. I took my sewing machine in on Friday morning and picked it up Saturday afternoon and wasn't charged Mall store prices. Very, very fair and reasonable prices and I swear it looked like it had been waxed and polished, like a new car right off the showroom floor. You know I have to give some props to Joe of the Vacuum service center. I've been into see him multiple l times and I found him to be sort of like someone from my hometown in the Midwest. I don't know quite how to describe that... But it's not like a Californian... He's just a Midwestern cowboy like dude... I was looking for used vacuum and he gave me some valuable advice. He said why buy use vacuum when what I do is fix vacuums. Ha ha that's funny... Okay, Joe... I get that! He's quite a character... His shop is not pristine... But you're dealing with vacuums... What do you expect? If you need your vacuum fixed in the Watsonville area... Joe is THE person to see. He'll be honest and he'll do his personal best! What more can we ask? Joe, the guy who runs this store is probably the rudest person I've ever had to deal with. I really want to give this place 0 stars, but I guess they can have 1 star because Joe did fix my vacuum, and 1 is the lowest that Yelp will allow . He ignored me when I first arrived, he belittled me for my handwriting (which was perfectly clear), he called me 2 days later because he forgot what the vacuum needed, and when I told him that it needed the $40 service job, he became even more annoyed and acted like I was an idiot for not saying the $39.50 service job. My bad Joe, it's not like you should have realized what I was talking about. The vacuum was ready to be picked up the next day, but I did not get his message right away, in fact I missed the it first the first 3 times he called me (on the first day) The next day he left a message telling me that he was going to charge me $5 per day that my vacuum was sitting in the store, and that he was going to sell the vacuum in 30 days. This was only ONE day after it was ready to be picked up. I saved the message to show people, and they all get a good laugh at how angry this guys sounds. And on a side note - $5 per day!? The vacuum take up less than 1 square foot of space! So anyways, after getting his angry messages I go to pick it up, his card machine is broken, and he doesn't have change for the cash I have on hand, but somehow he makes me feel like this is my problem - Is it my responsibility to give him exact change? No, but he sure acted like it was. Then after I pay him, as I'm walking out he shouts at me,"Sorry I had to call you so many times, next time you should pick up the phone!" No Joe, next time I'll take my business elsewhere. You may do a good job fixing vacuums but you need LOTS of work on your customer service skills. read more

After reading some of the reviews , I have to question the people writing it. Joe the owner has been amazing, And he personally works on EVERY machine that walks into his shop He was able to fix our machine , and Cleaned it , the vacuum was compleatly brand new!!!.....that was not the best part though , the best part was when we showed to get our machine, He went above and beyond and loaded it into the car for my wife .. Joe is seasoned, reasonably priced & has pride in his workmanship. He must know the ins&outs of every ol'vacuum ever made & keeps up with the current models. Joe likes to chew the fat, which will make you feel right at home. He'll call to let you know the diagnosis after he has a chance to check out your vacuum. That's when he'll estimate the repair time. He'll call again when it's ready to pick up. Joe sells a few of what he considers the most dependable reasonably priced new models. He also has a few used vacuums in good order to fit any budget. Since I took my vacuum to Joe for a tune up, I'll never go anywhere else. The bottom line is, what ever the problem, you can trust Joe to get your machine up & running smoothly. read more

Okay, you're not going to believe this, but I am writing a review before my repair job is even done. That's right, I am giving 5 stars to a business without having the finished product, a repaired Oreck carpet cleaner ("Steemer", about ten years old), in my possession. Walk into the place and expect to be ignored. That's old school. Look around the place and there are rows and rows of used machines, it's dusty, dank and smells of an old repair shop. That's old school. Are you getting the pattern? You look around the place and on the walls are bits and pieces of memorabilia, posters, silly sayings, all unconnected with each other, a visual mosaic of a repairman's personality. That's old school. I called the business beforehand to make sure they could deal with this problem. After describing the problem to Joe, he and I agreed that it could probably be fixed, or at least it was worth looking at. I brought in my machine which wasn't feeding the cleaning solution properly so I was getting streaks all over my carpet and uneven cleaning. Joe, the proprietor, was busy training a young man on the repair of a motor of some kind, in Spanish. Joe made a quip, I made one back, and from then on, I knew that I could trust this person. He said he would have George look at it and that George was really good with this type of machine. Two days later I dropped in on the business to see if any progress had been made. Joe was in his inner sanctum eating lunch and talking to a friend. He finally noticed me when I picked up his little black Chihuahua mix and had him (Naughty, the dog) lick my face. Joe says, "You wanna take him home?" I say, "Yeah, then I'll trade you for my carpet cleaner." Always ready with the jokes at that place. At that point Joe came out and said George hadn't come in yet to look at the machine. I said, no problem, just let me know if you guys can fix it. George called me today. ON A SUNDAY. I AM NOT KIDDING!!! He said he had figured out the problem and would let me know later on when it was done. I said how much. He said 50 or 60. I thanked him profusely. He clearly knows what he's doing. He said there was a broken part which he would replace free of charge! Are you kidding me??? This is a great repair shop. Reliable, competent, Joe is as gruff and unbusinesslike as George is friendly and professional. I love this shop and will never go anywhere else for my vacuum or shampooer repairs. Watsonville at its best--old school service with old school attitude. If the damn thing doesn't work I will rescind this review. But I seriously doubt it. read more

Love this guy! He actually picked up the phone on a Sunday, his day off! He has a good sense of humor- like that! I had some questions about purchasing a floor sweeper and he was very knowledgeable. I will definitely take my vacuum to him when I get it back from my daughter. :) i want to give this local man my business! The person that wrote that bad review needs an attitude adjustment! I was promised a used vacuum by the owner, Joe in a few days by Saturday. Saturday came, told check back Wednesday. Called Thursday, parts on order. Gave it 2 weeks, told parts not in yet. One week later told he has been stripping parts off the vacuum. On top of that he is the rudest person you would ever trade with. Best advise: stay away! read more

Close to home. Sounds good. Been there a long time. Sounds good. And that's where it ends. The guy was all friendly and chatty at first when I took in my vacuum with a non working power switch. I returned to see if it was ready 6 times. EVERY time having to tell him why I'd brought it in. Each time he'd say he'd have it by the end of the week for sure. I'd return and get the same deal. Took it in on Oct 23. Picked it up December 23. Still broken. Caked in thick dark dust. He started blowing out a vacuum when I came in and didn't stop making thick dust fill the air plus the noise was obnoxious. I told him I was taking it home. His only comment was " what can you expect if you can't be patient...... ". Really? Two days short of two months, over half a dozen stop ins on my part and he had NEVER EVER even looked at it. Joe is quite a guy. Catch him on a good day, which is rare,and you think something is wrong with him.all the negative reviews this man has gotten is quite funny. This guy knows his vacuums and always gives you the best price. When he is acting like a jerk which is 99 percent of the time, all he really needs is just a hug and to tell him he is loved and appreciated. If this fails just start talking about Jesus and this snaps him right out of his crusty mood. Deep down inside he's a hell of a funny dude and I myself find his negative customer skills hilarious. Alrighty--maybe this is a little premature, as I have only had a phone convo w/ Joe, the owner--but if there were anywhere else in Watsonville that was carrying the belt my vacuum needs I would go there. I would wait in the hideous line at K-mart not to deal w/ this curmudgeon. I am in my mid-30's and not an idiot--sorry bud that I didn't know the difference between an "upright" and a "cannister." When he asked, I told him my vacuum has a removable cannister that I take off the front--is that what he meant? He then reasked, do you have an upright or a cannister, and I had to explain that I wasn't sure of the difference. Joe's answer: "An upright is when you push the damn thing in front of you, and a cannister is when you drag the friggin' thing behind. Do you understand now?" Yes, Sir! I have an upright, apparently. So, yes, he has the belt. And "If you don't know how to put it on, I can do it for you." After reading the above review, I don't think I'll be having him work on my vaccum. I'll spend the $5 bucks for the belt and be on my way. Too bad no one recognizes the value of customer service these days. Making your customers feel stupid isn't the best way to gain their trust or loyalty. Maybe he really loves sewing machines and hates vacuums? Who knows. read more

He'll NEVER receive my business. My husband and I are the type of people who believe you give business to locals when ever you can and then to big box or online stores. I can tell you after my phone conversation with JOE he'll never see one penny from me. I called to ask if he had bags for the Kirby ultimate G machine. He went off yelling at me that he's never heard of that bag and I didn't know what I was talking about. I apologized and said I didn't have the machine in front of me at the time but I knew it had a G in the name. He told me he's been working on Kirby's forever and there is no such thing and then he basically hung up on me. Next I went online to see how I could be so wrong. Okay - he was right, I own an Ultimate G not a Super G. Joe won't miss my bag refill money but I will never endorse such RUDE behavior from a business owner. He should know better. read more

This place doesn't even deserve a star... They have the worst service ever my dad took our vacuum to get it fix a young man helped him out was very polite he told him it would take 3 days to get it fixed. Until today this older man called my house a worker from this place i don't know if its that Joe guy because due to a previous review I'm pretty sure its him. He was yelling at my mom telling her that she had to pick up the vacuum and that he needed to know when because previous clients would just say that they would pick it up and they wouldn't obviously we were going to pick it up because we needed it thats the reason we took it there. My mom called my dad to confirm if it was going to be possible to pick it up today but due to his work schedule they closed before my dad gets out from work so he was going to pick up on Saturday because thats when he gets out early before the closing time. My mom was kind of calling him back to let him know we would get the vacuum on Saturday his respond was "Why are you making up excuses or is it that you guys don't have money". Really what type of person says that it was none of his business if we have money. Im very upset my family had to go through that just because they don't know how to speak english and defend there self i think that man is very racist and shouldn't be working for this business. BEWARE, BEWARE! Negative stars! Below par service from Joe! Exceptionally rude and mean. I went in to purchase replacement bags for my vacuum cleaner. He did not want to listen to my description, instead spoke over me and threw a bag on the counter and said it would work. I went home and tried to fit the bag in the cleaner but it did not fit. I went to return the bag and he basically blamed me for getting the wrong one and would not return my money. He has lost my business. I would not recommend this store to anyone! Joe has the worst costumer service ever! From the moment I walked in and being the only customer in his shop he was rude and did not acknowledge me until I was about to walk out the door. Joe told me multiple times to come pick up my vacuums he doesn't care about me my business or my vacuums. After a rude phone conversation to simply check on my vacuums I went and picked up both of my vacuums before they were repaired and had a few choice words for him and even then when I walked in the shop door he said "You're here to pick up your vacuums? Good." From the moment I walked in Joe spoke to me with nothing but disrespect but from the start I showed him nothing but the opposite... respect. I'd rather buy a new vacuum from Target than give Joe my business or a single red cent! I recommend to any person looking for a vacuum repair shop to either find a different businesses other than Joe's who shows their customers respect or go buy a new vacuum. read more

Brought our canister vacuum to this guy and he held it for 6 weeks. Every time I would call to get an update he would say that he was working on it 'next.' Called one day and he said Sears would not give him the parts. We came to pick up the vacuum and noticed the handle was missing, along with some other parts. Sears inspected the vacuum and said 3 pieces were missing and it would cost $228.00 for the missing pieces. Save yourself a major headache and take your vacuum somewhere else. read more
