We watched a safety video, signed a waiver, paid, then loaded up in the shuttles for a ride to the Vail Pass starting point. The first mile or so of the ride are switchbacks, so go slowly. Then coast on the straightaway to Copper Mountain. Get a chair to view the ski area. Restaurants and coffee shops are around, plus restrooms. Then ride into Fresco. Be sure to stop at the free museum with the log buildings. So fun! Mornings are cool, so wear long sleeves or a jacket. Jeans or leggings or on warmer days, shorts are fine. Afternoon rides can get rained on. The team at Alpine Sports are helpful and friendly. We recognize their faces after riding for many years. If you do one activity other than hiking, make this ride a must. Reserve your bikes online and get a discount!

They had these inflatable kayaks that they called duckies that can fit 1-2 people, and you paddle along after the raft. We switched off between all of us and our two kids ages 8 and 12 even had a go of things in the duckie, and I felt they were safe even though they were definitely not the best paddlers, given Bill's watchful eye and directions on paddling! Bill also pointed out wildlife, good spots to jump in the river and swim, and places were could float in our life vests in the current downstream. Had such a great time, even though the rapids had downgraded to only class 1-2 by the time we went in late July. The rapids still provided plenty of excitement for us all, especially in those duckies! Definitely go with this group--they were great!

The UTV is in great shape, easy to drive, AT/MT, 4x4 or 2x4... super fun, after the trailer assembly was easy to secure and transportation back to Carlos, who received us back, checked the vehicles and helmets provided (they were sanitized BTW). Summary of…read moreour experience in late Sept 2024: We reserved a 2 person Honda Talon S2 ATV the day prior and a follow up text was provided. I let the business know we were new to the area and just wanted an easy trail to see the fall colors. I was assured that the trail recommended was a good fit and they said maps and waypoints would be provided (also stated on the website). We arrived 10 min before the appointment time (7:30 AM) and there was no one there. I texted the owner and then they sent someone who arrived just before 8:00 AM. The employee (Christian) would not provide us any maps or waypoints for the recommended trail. He said it was simple to navigate, well-marked and no maps existed. We argued about this, but he said he could do nothing. I have done many off-road trails in places like Moab, Utah and California, waypoints based on mileage or simple maps are always provided. In the end I took his word. He said it was a large loop of about 30 miles and easily done in a half day. My concerns: - The employee told us he would take 10% off for the late release at 8:20 AM and add an extra hour to the rental. I did not look closely at the receipt since we were in a rush and noticed later that we were charged full price which did not include stated discount. - The tow vehicle had an 1/8 of tank of fuel - not enough to cover the tow distance. We had to waste time to fuel it on the way to the trail head. - The ATV was not prepped for us. Dirty, dusty, muddy. - As suspected, the trail was not well marked. There were at least 4 unclear intersections with some markings (like #200, 200A) but this is meaningless without a map. I could not download a map myself the night before. One turn led us up a 3 mile dead-end spur to a radio tower. - We checked in with the person that rented the ATV to us, showed him our location on GPS and he said we were fine. - A few miles later, we ended up at a dead end at a fire road about 20 miles from start. The employee told us we were in the wrong place and told us to back track all the way back (vs. an intended loop). - We missed our return time but were not charged extra. The ATV was mechanically good, high quality and newer but clearly not prepped for a new customer. We saw amazing fall colors. The duration of trip was longer than we expected and had to rush the return since an expected loop turned into an out-and-back. We didn't feel heard when dealing with the employee. He also did not honor the discount and said to call the owner about the fuel cost and concerns. Two email attempts were made to the owner (Carlos), and he never responded. Their service did match their website or phone conversations. I find it nuts that they will send a visitor into the back country without maps and make you feel stupid by claiming 'it is easy' and 'super well marked.' These areas have limited cell coverage, and you will be on your own if you get lost or have a mechanical issue. I would not use their services again - horrible customer service.

It still amazed me how much of other people's stuff I found laying around. Gloves, ear phones. Like people tuck your stuff away securely, lol. It's pretty simple! I'd highly recommend coming on a weekday or off peak time when you can get more slides down. I can't even imagine what it'd have been like on a peak time weekend. It takes awhile to wait in line to go down and going back up the conveyor (that you can't move or walk on, you just stand and let it go at its own speed). Really fun time and not too death defying!! Pretty views too, obviously.

After trueing the wheel as best they could, (a very old rim that had seen many miles,) they explained it was rideable but not 100%; they also recommended replacing the crank as it was quiet bent. They didn't hard sell me on a new bike or over charge for the work done. I was just traveling through when I needed the service but each time I'm riding in the area this shop will be my go to place to get bikes tuned, replacement parts, or a whole new whip. They have competitive prices, good inventory, & be sure to ask about rentals.

Oh that's right, never. On a friend's recommendation, I rented my equipment at the family-owned Alpine Sports, at the Hilton Valdoro lodge location (one of their four shops). Taylor took care of me, first double-checking my boot size, and renting me a sweet pair of Rossignol S3 demos. He was very knowledgable and friendly, discussing the rest of their inventory and comparing their stock to my Volkl Vertigo G3 carvers I left back in NY. The Rossignols were in great condition - bases were smooth and edges sharp. These are rocker skis designed for powder, and given the four days of snowfall, these were a blast to ski with. Prices were reasonable, and they've also got a decent selection of apparel and accessories in case you forget to pack anything for your ski trip! Thanks again to Taylor and the rest of the crew at Alpine Sports...I had a great time on the mountains, and it was a pleasure to ski with the Rossignol S3s!
