Hosted our companies 5th annual camp out at vail lake this year again and what an amazing / fun place yet again ! Shari did all our booking this year of the 8 sites we needed, in their " lower Chardonnay " area. The booking process was easy From the first phone call. The gate lady Carmen was such a bubbly happy person it put us in the camping mood being so close to the city. Everything at are full hook up site worked with out a hiccup, we were even able to get tv! We were in campsite 33 and in a toyhauler we were able to leave are party deck down and watch the sun raise over the Valley. My wife and I spent a few days here and enjoyed it. The weather was great for February and the place relatively quiet. I have heard that holidays the place can be very busy so make reservations. The roads could use some pot hole repair but overall the park seems relatively clean but worn in some areas. read more

This place is an RV resort yet the trees are so low you have no choice but to hit them, scratching your roof and sides of your RV or TT. They don't disclose that there is no cell service, (only a concern for purposes of our jobs; on call 24/7). Quiet hours are not enforced. They advertise WiFi in the village yet there's no one around to help you and it's not a good connection. No TV all; not even over the air channels. Our neighbors were smoking pot all day/night. The place looks beautiful in pictures but definitely not coming back. Not what it's portrayed as at all. The site we were given was advertised as 50 AMP but when we arrived they moved our site and we got put in 30 AMP. I'm not one to leave negative reviews, but we are upset. Also, it's very pricey for what you get. We ended leaving a day early as we were tired of smelling pot and just downright not enjoying our time. read more

Where do I begin? How about the lack of customer service this place has. I have been trying to get a hold of someone since October 12, 2018 to get any information I can about mountain bike races being held here in March of 2019. I have called and left multiple messages just wanting to ask some questions. I have not had one call returned. I'm talking at least 5 voicemail messages. Also, I have sent at least 3 emails to Sherry with questions and not one iota of correspondence has been made. The last time I called in mid December I also left a voice message for Sherry. Again, it was never returned. I understand they are switching to KOA, but that does not excuse their refusal to assist me. I was lucky enough to speak to someone who said Sherry already had names pencilled in on her calendar for the weekends I was looking to book a site. Again, I left a message for her to call me just to ask what I needed to do to get a site in a specific part of the park. Guess what?! NO RETURN PHONE CALL. If they aren't capable of returning a phone call it's not worth giving them my business. Unfortunately, i don't have a choice as we need a place to stay for the mountain bike races. I will not stay here when it is not absolutely necessary. I called again January 4th 2019 to see about making a reservation. I am still waiting for that call to be returned. This place is a bad joke. I was able to book online through the KOA website. All of the spaces in the section I requested in the voice and emails are booked. ***update*** Great reply. Thanks Vail. In search of wildflowers, my husband and I spent 4 nights here, since nearby desert campgrounds were full. We were in luck! Not only were there amazing views across from our campsite of poppies, but we were able to easily hike to see them closer. The best part, we were the only people on the trail! This is a large RV resort split into several smaller sections. We camped in the Upper Chardonnay section and our particular site was private and had amazing views. In the summer heat, this spot may have been quite a different experience, but the temperatures were only in the 80s during our stay. Some of the lower spots nestled in the Oaks section would be better choices during the hot summer months. My favorite aspect of this full hook-up RV park was that it wasn't like many parks where you feel like you are in a parking lot. This was more like true camping with open space between you and your neighbors. There are many nearby hiking trails, two swimming pools, and a cafe and bar area which we didn't visit. The town of Temecula with it's many wineries is nearby. We also enjoyed an afternoon in Old Town Temecula. read more

Our family has been going to Vail Lake for the last 6 years. It's been a tradition to go during the Halloween celebration. Sadly, this will be our last year. The decorations used to be so amazing. Now, they are far and few between. The "haunted" hay ride was more of a narrated drive through the camps. Families can no longer bring their rangers or razors. That being said, if you want to get around, you need to rent a golf cart. A 3 day rental runs about $300. Kids can't take motorized scooters either. Don't even think about exploring the outer grounds, security will check up on you around every corner. If you like a little freedom when you camp, you might want to consider another camp. Only some campsites have tables, so be prepared. If you've experienced Vail Lake when it was fully decorated, you will be disappointed. Please bring back the Vail Lake everyone spoke so highly of. read more

What a great, great family campground. It's a fairly large campground that has several divided up camp spots. It has a spot for pretty much everyone's desired camp style. If you look at their map online you will see the names of each section. When you first enter the park, you will see they have miniature golf for free. Not too shabby of a miniature golf course. They also have several horse shoe sites and two Basketball hoops. The village has a mini mart, a restaurant, ice cream parlor and a BAR. Go check out their yummy bloody Mary's! Everyone was walking around with them. They were delicious. There is also a stage in the court yard with several nice tables and umbrellas. A DJ comes on the weekends and there was karaoke night when we were there. Our daughter got up and took turns singing songs. It was fun. Everyone was clapping and supporting the singers. There is also A ping pong table by the front of the mini mart. There is so much for kids to do here. Tons of bike & hiking trails. A few pools and get ally just lots of exploring. Now the areas. If you look at the map it tells you nothing but the name. Be careful asking them for advice on spots,.. If you say family then they will assume you will want to be in the "Oaks" area.. Oooooh not us! Thankfully we weren't there and we scoped everything out. Ok so here's the run down for you. Go look at the map online for each description I'm going to give. Let's start with Chardonnay Mesa. It's closest to the village on the right side as you enter the campground. This area has views views views. Lots of grassy areas and did I say views? It's up on a hill over looking the surrounding hills. Some spots have big spots and you are able to have quite a bit of elbow room.(Our next pick) it appears to be a quieter area. THE OAKS :0 (yikes) now from what I gather from the girl on the phone a highly desirable area for families. (Why!??) highly congested. Yes families ,tons of them. Right in the mix here. If you like action and chaos then this is for you. Lots of loud remote control cars in the streets, lots of families, lots of kids, lots of bike riding in the street from little little guys to teenagers. Tight spots. Loud area. No biggie. If you like all that then The Oaks is for you. RINCON: farther down on the right side also up on a hill... it's ok. It's nice. It's quiet. The sites itself is ok. LOWER MERLOT. This area is for people who don't like being in the middle of chaos and action. It's quiet. It's it's own area. It has several several nice spots that give you lots of space. Several back up to the hills and bike trails. I've already mapped out the spots I like. This overall is a great area. MERLOT MESA. Again quiet away from action. Is down the road from Lower Merlot. I mean that literally. It's down a hill and then it evens out to a few spots against the hill. Has a few nice spots. Only downfall I saw was that It does back up against a ditch. But it's nice and it's quiet. ARROYO SECO This is the farthest out from everything. I mean FAR!!! Not my favorite at all but you may like this area. It's a little bit like the Oaks but just really far from everything but the pool. I believe some don't have electricity. Call to confirm. I think I covered everything. I hope this review helps. I am an avid camper. This is my 4th time camping this year at different locations and by far......, this is the most BORING camp ground I've ever been at. Campsite cost: $35 per night Water slide cost: $10 per person Pool: Free Lake/Beach to swim, relax: $10 per person Hiking trails: NO shade Campsite shade: 80% of tent sites had little to NO shade. We were lucky to get two sites with the MOST shades with the bathroom near. Most sites have no picnic table. Ours didn't, so we trucked in a few tables from other vacant sites. Bathroom/Showers: Hot water was minimal. Three shower stalls per bathroom. No money needed to get hot water. Fire pit is good, nice and large. It was an OKAY place to go to, but this is my first and last trip over. We had bikes and if it wasn't for them, there would be nothing else to do but our own activities. We found it ridiculous that we had to pay $10 per person to go to the lake after an hour hike from the campsite. Roads TO the lake could use MAJOR maintenance. After all, they are charging $10 a head. Sure didn't get our money. For a "Resort," this was NOT impressive. read more

Normally I would be giving a 4 star rating but after last weekend they get one! On Sunday (checkout) we got up to wait in line to buy RV tickets for next years Halloween event. Got there a 7am....gates open at 8:30am and that's fine but once they opened it took until 10:40am to buy spots! and...........there were on 60 people in front of us. The biggest issue was not waiting but the fact that people were buying way more then one space! A lady in front of me was buying 12! Another lady came out way before us with a BANK bag (obviously buying way more then one space!) Vail Lake......what you don't realize when you allow one person to buy huge blocks of camping spots is that it ruins the experience for everyone else that has been going for years because, even when we think we have a great spot in line....we end up with shit camping spaces or none at all! People that have a big group need to all get their butts in line and wait to buy their spaces just like everyone else! TWO SPACE PURCHASE LIMIT PER PERSON!!! get in line! read more

Spent 3 days, two nights last week with 3 grand kids. Campground store closed early afternoon, asked front desk gal who responded they open/close when they want to. The advertised water slides were closed (Oh, we'll open them this summer.) Water in the kiddies pool was frigid, kids lasted 5 minutes for the three days. No wireless near any of the camp sites, cell was hit or miss. Compared to the many sites we've visited, this rated the lowest in our experience to date. read more

Once a year we head out to California homebrewers Festival in May. Anytime I always look forward to seeing Carmen G at the gate. She always has a great smile and is very helpful with any questions we have. We never have any issues checking in and they like is always a fantastic time. read more

So far so good with the new ownership. Much cleaner now and organized. Janky metal art guy is gone but so are razors!?!? You can't get around this place without something and I do not see people trading in their razors for golf carts (and pretty soon electric only I'm sure). Stayed for Halloween weekend and it was great. The place was completely sold out. I'm updating this to let others know that the rancho water district purchased this land and it is under new management. They were friendly at check in and answered all our questions/concerns about "rumors". The bar was closed - because of new owners, they must apply for new permits, which are in process. They did have beer trucks available on friday and saturday night during entertainment. The store was also closed, no cooked food available. Again, this is a permit issue which is in process. They have moved the store into the main office and just about anything you need for camping was available (just like the former store). I REALLY liked how clean the bathrooms and showers were, way better than before. Mini golf has been re-greened and cleaned up nicely. Reservations for 2015 opened up at 8:30 am on the 26th and by the time we got to the office, the oaks was sold out (for the weekend we wanted). I am bummed for the family that lost their business - however - this is our family trip, every year for the last 7 years and we look forward to it. I am confident the new management team will make this a wonderful campground again! If you are reading this, vail lake - I would love to see ceramic painting and pumpkin painting brought back...OH - and wifi ;0) read more

We booked a two night stay and received a free 3rd night for free if you mention a code that was listed on facebook. We were on Spring break camping at Newport Dunes then headed over. We check in and find two spots together for a friend to meet us. We were told that they need to book quickly as they were filling up fast! So not the case! The place was so dead! No entertainment at all! We were invaded by four huge raccoons they were fearless and very bold! Not Vails fault it's nature! The pools aren't heated and it was too cold to swim. The kids rode bikes most of the weekend! The sad part is I was told the water slides were not going to be up this summer? She claimed renovation but I doubt it! Who waits for the summer to start a water project. She said they were going to rent a jumper water slide weekends only. We camped right next to the camp host or ranger who works the main entrance. They have a diesel truck that is very loud! They are in and out all day and had no consideration for kids riding their bikes. I'm sure the ladies that were driving had to go up to the stables and work then race back down to the office! Rude! Our last visit will be Memorial Weekend then we will take a break until the slides are up and running if that happens! Attended one of the Halloween weekends. At $110 a night it is incredibly expensive. However, it is a very attractive campground with lots going on. Two night minimum! Lots and lots of rules, no more than 6 people per site, only one tent allowed! Really noisy until about 1pm, so, although they have their rules, there does not seem to be any enforcement! Stayed Memorial Day weekend. Negatives: Campgrounds were wonderful but the actual lake was a disappointment since it's a few miles from camp, you need to pay 10 dollars a day to fish, and you must talk to the ranger before entering the lake. The security cop and ranger presence was excessive at the lake and seemed to be too many rules. Fish here, park there, don't go on the grass, etc. Another negative is the facility allows gas powered golf carts which are pretty noisy even at an idle speed through the campgrounds. Take those off road buggies...excuse me golf carts.. to Glamis not the peaceful campgrounds. Needed the help of maintenance staff and they were so friendly, nice and helpful. All the staff were very friendly and smiling considering it was probably a stressful weekend for them. A+ to the staff. To me the price is not an issue considering how difficult it is to reserve a CA state campground site using Reserve America. At least here you can go camping without reserving 6 months in advance. Campgrounds were very clean and safe for kids. Pools were beautiful and well kept. Plenty of places to ride a bicycle and would be a perfect destination for a camping/MTB trip. read more

We have been camping at Vail Lake for over 8 years now, and we absolutely love it. The camp ground is awesome and there is so much to do for the kids. If you want to go swimming, you have 3 pools to swim in, you can play mini golf, or go get some delicious hand scooped ice cream. If you love blood Mary's, then you HAVE to try Gary's bloody Mary's at the bar, they are the BEST!!! Perfect flavor and perfect spice too. If you want a little fun at night, they have karaoke on Friday's and a DJ on Saturday night too. The kids love it!! The staff is very helpful, and always go above and beyond, especially Caitlyn!! They always make sure you are taken care of. I can't say enough great things about Vail Lake and the entire campground!!!!! read more

Ok I enjoyed myself once I got there. I have two complaints. One, we were told that there were no spaces in which was a lie because our friends were already there and they saw people leave that spot. Second , the security is very low ,there were parties all over and they were breaking curfew. We called and our friends did as well and they came out, but proceeded to tell us that he was the only guard that was there! Also he complained that he would do what he can. The noise eventually subsided. We have always enjoyed our stay here! Since the Lake has been closed it has not been as fun. We would love it if you would open that back up. Annonimous read more

We recently had our Dad-Daughter Adventure Princess campout at Vail Lake in the Arroyo Seco area of the campground. Everyone (350 dads & daughters) had an amazing time and enjoyed all of the open space, pool area, and more. We also organized an ice cream event with the help of their events coordinator Shari. Shari was super helpful in organizing our event and making sure everything ran perfectly in their on-site ice cream shop for when the kids (and dads) were making their ice cream selection. Plenty of friendly staff on site to help was also appreciated. We will look forward to doing this camp out again next year. read more

We took our high energy girl scouts to this campground and had a blast. There were so many activities that everyone found something fun to do. The pools were perfect for hot days. The staff was more than accommodating! They even brought out a barbecue pit for us to roast our burgers own. It was terrific! We couldn't have asked for more. read more

My memorial day weekend was about as bad as it could get. We were in the lower Arroyo Seco camp ground and after arriving on Friday night and setting up camp we had a nice dinner. After settling down for the night we just started getting comfortable when around 1030 the camper across from us fired up his generator. It wasn't too loud so we just dealt with it. The days were good and the grand kids had fun riding there bikes. Part of the problem is there is no cell coverage in the area so when the fight broke out in the campsite that had been drinking all day Saturday you can't call anyone to complain, the screaming and yelling carried on until 1 AM Sunday morning. This is not a family environment, the language was pretty rank and not suited for my grandkids. We complained to the office the next day and found out other campers also complained. You would think after Saturday night management would be on top of the situation no such luck. Sunday night I woke up around 11pm to the sound of a loud DJ an loud mouthed woman on a PA and a big screen TV. All attempts to get them to show some respect and quit down just made them louder and more obnoxious. At the same time the fighters from Saturday night had their music cranked up way to loud. Finley around 130 AM they shut down. Worst camping weekend ever. Do not trust your money or your spare time or your family to these people. read more

I can't believe this resort is less than 2 hours from Los Angeles, which is nice for those short weekend getaways! The property is huge and offers so many activities, including swimming pools, tennis courts, basketball courts, miniature golf, a community center (with a bar), water slide (not open at this time), and a lake for fishing and boating. The bridge that leads to the lake is located near the pool and is closed after 6:30pm. The road to the lake is a dirt road that takes you deeper into the canyon. It took us about 10-15 minutes on our razors to reach it. The view is absolutely beautiful! I believe there are 3 camp sections. Although they are walking distance from eachother, they are quite a ways apart. Plan on driving or bike riding between them if you're in a hurry. Razors and sandrails are permitted inside the resort, which makes getting around a lot more quicker. Also, there are free showers available in the bathrooms!!! I'm giving this place 4 stars, because they do not have electrical hook-up's available for the RV's. Don't forget your generators. Also, expect a limited cell phone signal. I believe only Verizon users are able to get a signal. read more

Absolutely beautiful and peaceful. This was our first time camping at the resort and we couldn't have been more impressed. This all started at the entry gate with our greeter Carmen G who couldn't have been more sweet and welcoming. Our site was amazing with the most beautiful views. I gave it a below average review because the resort is in desperate need of improvements and maintenance! I'm not sure what the water district's plans are, but the asphalt roads once beyond the entrance are in bad shape! A lot of potholes everywhere! A majority of the sites need to be upgraded or repaired and the lake is not accessible! Pool area is average and water slides are not operational! Staff members are always pleasant and helpful! Too bad the water district hasn't made any capital improvements since they purchased it! read more

36ft class A 4 slides. Depends on the site you get. Some are great, some are just dirt and some have no hookups. Most are 30 amp. It is s great place, but was much better when you could drive in the hills and go to the lake. Halloween is still great, but again a bit of a dip (hay ride??). The pools are much better, but the karaoke is awful. Overall it seems to be on a slight decline, but it had a very high place to fall from so it is still a great place. We visited Vail Lake campgrounds over the past weekend and had a great time. First off, the ranger who gave us our passes was one of the nicest people I have come across in some time, just so happy. The kids loved the pools and the off-roading to the lake. On Saturday night they had a live band playing by the shops which was really fun. Adults listened to music and took the kids to the ice cream shop. We had wished the water slide was open but didn't really matter either. All-in-all, we had a great family weekend. read more

This is my second time staying here with my family, the first time in 2013 and I gotta say it's was just as fun as the first time! Both times were with the Ecke YMCA family camp outs and we were never disappointed. Miles of biking trails, two swimming pools, clean campgrounds and a wonderful staff that was super helpful to friends of ours that lost their dog (camp staff went out of their way to find the guy, post flyers, etc) there's mini golf there too but we didn't get a chance to play, tons of super cool sculptures around the area, too if you're interested in taking "selfies" with cool stuff ha ha ha. I don't get to make it to all the Family camp outs but I always make it a point to get to Vail Lake! read more

My hubby and l and two other couples that are friends of ours spentt this Valentines Weekend here and i must say we all had a fantastic time. There is so much to do, golf n stuff, bocce ball, frisbee throw, horse shoes, swimming pools, karaoke and so much more. The grounds were well kept. The feel you get is truly that of being away deep in the mountains when in reality you are not far from the beautiful city of temecula, ca. where you can venture off the campgrounds to some of the wineries and restraunts while camping. You will absolutely enjoy the scenery in this picturesque rv park. They have so many diffetent sections to choose from; from up high views to down low views where the trees line the pathways and i must say the spaces here are quite large with lots of room for large groups and gatherings. If you try this RV resort, you are garanteed to love it. We will definitely return!!!! Space 125 and 126 are huge spaces!!! read more

This campground is awesome for families. We stayed here over the weekend and were very impressed with the amenities that Vail Lake Campground offers. Our site had plenty of trees to keep us shaded from the blistering sun. In just a short walk we were able to relax and swim in not one but three pools. In the evenings they have entertainment for both children and adults to enjoy. Friday night was karaoke and Saturday night was a great cover band. They also had a full bar there that opens up at 5pm. The kids really enjoyed there miniature golf course as well. If you're looking for a fun weekend away with the family I would recommend this spot. So much Fun! read more

By far our favorite local campground. It's quiet, a lot of places to hike, swimming pools, laundry rooms, full hook ups, fire rings, large grass areas for kids to play. You can also bring your golf cart or UTV and put put around the grounds. The new owners finally allow swimming in the lake to all guests! You can shoreline fish for $10 per person per day (unless you have an annual pass). To take a fishing boat out is $150 for the day, pontoons, etc are $250. The only thing that would make this perfection is to allow camping lakefront, even if it's dry camping :) read more

Let me start by saying... we go here often and do love this campground. However after our recent Labor Day trip, the family got terribly ill. And with a little research we found out that over a 100 ppl got sick that weekend ... coincidence? Absolutely not. Someone pooped in the middle pool. Now not once has vail admitted to this even tho several families know this to be true. Instead they say, no poo just leaves, cottonwood leaves to be exact. That's a full out fib. I was there, my son and husband where in pool at time of sighting, got out immediately. By the time staff came around to look not only was none found, but NOTHING was removed. Not even leaves. It's sad that with such a horrible outbreak no apologizes have been made, nothing. I understand things happen but come on now, own up to responsibility please. Something at these grounds made families very ill. Some children are STILL incredibly ill. This parasite is no joke. Riverside health dept is involved as well as the CDC now. Please oh please handle this properly and swiftly so families don't have to go thru what so many are still dealing with , especially with the big October month to come. Vails biggest month with all the festivities. My family has reservations and truly we are scared . That makes us sad.... Edit: oh we both know you're statements to be untrue.... you have has more then 3 calls and the way this situation has been handled caused most people to call the riverside health dept. directly. read more
