I was a die hard Grill Fresh fan, so I was desperately looking for a healthy fast-casual that was similar. While I'm still loyal to the OG, Vale does a pretty decent job. I had actually been here a couple years ago, & I stopped going because I thought the portions weren't big enough for the price (& it was out of the way from where I lived at the time). I finally stopped by because it was close to work, & maybe it's because I ordered a regular instead of a small bowl, but I feel like the servings did get bigger. Regardless, the food was pretty decent. A small bowl is a base, a veggie, & a protein for $7.99, & for double the food in a regular bowl, it's $10.99. I got two scoops of sweet potato noodles, coconut cauliflower & broccoli, & buffalo chicken & turkey spinach feta meatballs. All of it was pretty good! I left full, but not uncomfortably full. Definitely will stop by again if I'm on a time crunch for lunch. read more

I'm so conflicted in this review. I want to really love Vale, but I can't give them my undevoted love (and it may stem from my love of Big Island Bowls). I recently went to Vale for my second time and ordered a medium açaí bowl with some nanners, dark chocolate chips, strawberry granola (yum), and peanut butter. Vale does have four different but butter options including the peanut butter co.'s white chocolate flavor. For a bit I couldn't put my finger on it why vale's açaí tasted different to me than what I was used to. I typically make my own bowls using Trader Joe's unsweetened açaí, and finally I saw them scraping some of their açaí out of a tub and figured it OUT. I believe they use an açaí sorbet..... which isn't my favorite. But their bowls are honestly pretty solid regarding the giant scoops of peanut butter you get. One thing i don't love is how long it has taken them to make my bowl (I'm being needy), but both times I have gone it has taken them about 10-15 mins to create it, and the most recent time I was the only person inside. Can't take that long right? Especially if they use premade sorbet. Anyways though, I'll venture here if I don't want to drive across town to Big Island Bowls as it does get the fix in when you just aren't feeling like making your own. read more

I'm a frequent Yelper and very rarely give 1 star reviews. The food is great but the service was awful. I am very unhappy with the service provided. I ordered a large bowl. When asked if I wanted a boost, I chose guacamole from the options presented. I did not realize this was a charge of $2.00 additional. When I cashed out, after I paid, I realized I was charged for the guacamole. I asked since there was an upchargw for guacamole if I could have gotten a free boost as well and was told no. It's a charge whether it's the first or second (I still question this as if I had asked for sunflower seeds first and added the guacamole, the price in theory would have been the same). I stated very simply that I wouldn't have gotten the guacamole if I had realized. It was just a statement. The female associate became very defensive and stated it's on the sign. To be fair, it is noted as an upcharge on the buckskips but the team member was helping me down the line and there is not an easy to read menu on the line. I was not constantly consulting the buck slip. Additionally for the upcharge the amount of guacamole is truly not worth it. Honestly, the service left me so upset and embarrassed by how she chided me about not reading, that I'm writing this message rather than even eating my meal. The food was not very good and I felt sick after eating it. The service was incredibly slow, they were out of so many things that they couldn't make half of the dishes they offer. The "cilantro-lime brown rice" didn't even have cilantro or lime because they said they didn't have time to make it. They even had to turn away a doordasher because they could not make the food on their website. The place didn't seem clean, there were bugs in the store, and I would not recommend. read more

Vale just opened its Gainesville location after success in Tallahassee and their target audience is obviously students at UF and Santa Fe. They went into a small but ample space next to Bento Red (where Bento's Hiro sandwich shop was a few years ago) and they've renovated it to be modern but with an emphasis on organic freshness--wood paneling, dark colors, and a small indoor herb garden which I presume they use in preparing the food. There is enough space for dine-in but they seem to expect a good take-away business, as well. There is a lot of signage to explain menu options and how their system works, too. Basically, you go through a line where you choose a base (such as brown rice or salad greens), a vegetable, and a protein. They've had shrimp, several chicken dishes, and meatballs each time I've come here. You can also choose a sauce for your dish. Everything is intended to be relatively healthy and thus it doesn't seem like much salt is used in cooking which may be the reason some other reviewers think the food was a bit bland. I think it was fine. The first time I ate here, the brown rice was a bit clumpy as if it had been sitting around too long but everything else has been more or less fine. Aside from this main meal station, they also offer acai bowls which I've had now three times and are really, really, good. All the fruit tasted fresh and the two serving sizes both seem reasonable--a small and a larger one you can select from. They soon will also offer poke bowls. Vale makes a homemade lemonade which is not too sweet and is also really good, so I always get that. The staff is all friendly and helpful and the food is decently tasty. Yes, there are restaurants I like better as far as taste is concerned, but it's a nice, reasonably-priced, and above all pretty healthy place and informal enough to stop by after soccer without going home to shower first. I was a bit disappointed with this place. The food is super healthy, but it looks very unappetizing. The service was really good, and they had a good selection of drinks. I had the vegan protein of the day with quinoa and broccoli. The food was very bland, and if you like leftovers the portion is very small. Their açaí bowls are the best in town! They are generous with the amount of açaí they give, and when you get it to go, it's nearly popping out of the container bc they gave you so much. I knocked off a star because their regular food is just okay. It's doable, but they change the menu often, so don't pick a favorite! The flavors are very plain, so sauce it up! Um. Turn back and go to Bolay. Vale is a crunchy healthy place that serves acai bowls, poke bowls, and build-your-own bowls, and then some. I got the build your own, and my review is based solely on what i ordered. I got the regular: 12 dollars gets you two bases, two veggies, two proteins, a boost, and some sauces. That sounds like a lot, but they're kinda skimpy on servings. I mean, you will definitely get full, just don't be fulled by the "2 of each!" trap. Their sweet potato noodles are okay, nothing crazy, Bolay's is better. Their lemon garlic kale was tasty but they should probably cut the kale into smaller pieces. No one likes biting into a big piece of kale stalk. The buffalo cauliflower tasted like cooked cauliflower coated in buffalo sauce, nothing crazy. If you like mushrooms, then vale would be your spot, cuz they have thick cut pieces of mushrooms for you! Seeing as i am not a huuuuge fan of straight mushroom taste, i...did not finish them. Again, maybe if they were cut smaller? Thinner? The buffalo chicken was tender but, again, it was okay. The BRAISED BEEF, HOWEVER, WAS DRY as heck. I even asked the worker before ordering if it was gonna be tender--long story short, he said it was just shy of "melt in your mouth". LIES. If by "melt in your mouth" you mean biting into rope-like strands of poorly flavored cheap beef, then yes. Melt in your mouth. Please stop selling this, Vale. It does not taste good. And it's dry. Anyways, i've lived in GNV for 5 years and this is my first time here, and it's probably gonna be my last unless i somehow want an acai bowl. I'd be wary though. Bye. read more

Yesss to their açaí bowls! Eh to their meal options. Hence, a 3 star review. It's hard for me to give an opinion on these trending restaurants that offer a healthy pick-and-choose meal option. Much of the time, each base, protein, and side has such distinct flavors, so the flavor combos don't always work out - at least in my experience. The meal isn't cohesive and it's hard for me to enjoy it with such random items. There has only been one place where my meal has had complementary items, and unfortunately that hasn't happened with Vale. I'll give them a plus for their food tasting fresher than most. Unfortunately, I just haven't been impressed with the taste. I'll admit it could be due to my choices. But after at least 2 trips, it hasn't become a favorite. What I will come back for though is their açaí bowls! I have tried each of the açaí bowl spots in Gainesville and Vale has come out as my top choice! Their granola is perfectly crunchy and not too sweet! And their açaí has always been the perfect amount of frozen. They offer a really wide variety of toppings and everyone I go with has always been satisfied. While I wouldn't mind eating at Vale if someone else chose it, it wouldn't be a first choice for me. read more

Went here for the first time finally. The food was fresh,tasty,and there were great combinations. I had the turkey meatballs in a chipotle sauce with shaved Brussels sprouts and balsamic marinated tomatoes. Wow that seems like a lot of flavors and it was. Top it with some citrus vinaigrette and it exploded with taste. I can't believe I've never tried this before. I actually enjoy their food a lot, knowing it comes from farmers in the area and that it is fresh and changes daily. The reason why I am giving it three stars is because their portion sizes are pretty small but cost a good amount. I wanted to try the an Acai bowl but it cost around $8-$9 and the bowl was disappointingly small. Vale Food Co is Fire! What I mean by this is that this place is amazing! I have to say that I did not know how much I would like this place, but after trying it a few times, this is by far a top favorite in Gainesville! Sunny the owner is the MAN!!! He started this company by himself and was a graduate of FSWho? lol but he worked hard and now has three locations, one in Tally, one here (obvi) and one in Tampa! On my most recent visit I had a very healthy bowl. I started with their rice which was a so flavorful I could have just ate the rice and been fine. I loaded in some potato's and broccoli, and then had a few turkey meatballs and some of their chipotle ranch on it! It was big is was beautiful and it was mostly healthy! This was enough food for not 1 but two meals. I am a big guy so I just ate it for the 1 meal. Nice thing that I have been looking into is their meal delivery program. This is how Vale got started and this is where I think I could benefit from this place. They will deliver breakfast, lunch and dinner to you and this is healthy and amazing quality. I was talking with Sunny and the breakfast on Monday was Steak and Eggs, Potato's and Asparagus. This sounds amazing!! What a way to start the day with a breakfast like that. I highly recommend that you visit Vale Food Co! I can say this, if you want local sourced, great food, then this is the place to go! This place does a great job all the time!!! Vale is a Build Your Own Bowl homestyle restaurant similar to other build your own meal places that have been cropping up in big cities lately. As a big fan of Dig Inn in Boston and NYC I was excited to see a bowl place in Gainesville. The food was well prepared and tasty, however the portion was very small. Compared to places like this the portion was very small and may be better suited for lunch than dinner. The biggest downside for this place for me was the lack of customization. The menu is very weirdly set up. Some of the foods in the base category are actually sides and then what should be sides are called "boosts". Boosts vary from corn salsa to just a bit of parmesan cheese and don't add much to the meal. In shorter terms, you pay for essentially one base and one protein with not much else. I would love to see them add more varied sides like sweet potatoes, other veggies, and more mix ins that can bring out the flavors of the bowl. In general this place was ok, but after getting it once I don't think I'll be itching to go back anytime soon. read more

Yikes. Not sure how this is a restaurant... Seldom have I ever come across such bad tasting food. Everything was bland, extremely overpriced, and tasted horrible honestly. Even the textures were off. The food was lukewarm and dry too. Never ever recommending someone to eat here. The only slightly decent thing I tried were the vegan chicken tenders. I haven't tried the smoothies so I can't say. But the mac and cheese did not even taste like mac and cheese, the broccoli was soggy and nasty, and the kale was bad. The food was almost inedible. Never again. read more

I was looking for something healthy to eat (and was also too lazy to cook) so I ordered delivery from here and have to say I'm pretty impressed with the quality of food! It's basically like a healthy chipotle where you build your own healthy bowl. Since I wasn't sure what would go well together, I chose a small bowl. I got a base of roasted sweet potatoes with balsamic roasted mushrooms, diced orange chicken, sriracha honey sauce, and local sprouts. I also ordered a side of chipotle mac and a lemonade. The sweet potatoes were definitely a great choice. They're a nice balance of crispy and soft! The chicken and balsamic mushrooms were also very flavorful, especially with the honey sriracha sauce. The sauce is a bit spicy though, so I wouldn't recommend it for people with a low spice tolerance. The lemonade was okay, nothing out of this world but I was just craving some sugar. I have to say though, I am not impressed with their chipotle mac. It was just... bland. You can barely taste any flavor and I'm glad I got it as a side and not as my base. Just... don't order it. I would give this a 1 because it was edible but very dry, very sparse on serving size, the lemonade was fermented and watered down, and rice was crunchy. Firstly the food we've had is good, but lower rated because of two main things: 1. They have been out of all but the chickpea vegan option EVERY time we go, we keep coming back in hopes of the other options but have been disappointed one too many times. 2. The wall literally has a "earth matters" giant sign next to a wall of plastic plants and people eating with disposable plastic silverware. No composting or recycling bins. Contradictory! Not a fan of the loud music either but that's more personal preference. Next time we will try another place for quick vegan lunch. read more

I popped in here on a road trip to fuel up on some healthy eats. This is usually one of my options when passing through Gainesville, and on this particular Saturday evening, there was no line. I ordered a regular bowl with teriyaki chicken, cauliflower, sweet potato noodles, balsamic mushrooms, the brown rice, turkey meatballs, citrus vinaigrette and the tomatoes. I had very high hopes for this combo - priced at $13.99, it's a little more expensive than similar options at Fresh Kitchen. However, I was let down when everything was lukewarm and the flavor was one- note. And that note happened to be spice. So much spice! I could barely eat it. The noodles, meatballs, cauliflower, and teriyaki chicken were so spicy that they overpowered everything, and I can usually tolerate quite a bit of spice! I took it home and added some fresh avocado and sour cream, which helped take the kick off. But overall, I felt the meal was overpriced and overspiced. read more
