Man, I don't know WHAT was happening Saturday (9/7/24), but I went in after trying the nearby Pilates studio and got NO SERVICE! I really had my mind ready for it too I have been here before and have a few items that I always get, but THIS day ‍ well I guess it just wasn't meant to be. The owners should just be aware that there are way too many options close by that will gladly serve your potential customers if your staff doesn't want to. So to paint a picture, I'll just explain that I walked in, there was one other customer at the register. About 3 staff people were behind the counter, and a guy in the kitchen. Not a single one said a single solitary word to me. No greeting whatsoever. Odd, because usually SOMEONE greets you when you walk into a place. SOME type of acknowledgement. This day, at this place though, nothing ‍ Interesting. I walk up to the counter, not hanging back trying to decide, because I pretty much know what I want. One worker was literally less than 4 feet away from me, just separated by the counter. They were "busy," maybe preparing online or phone orders, I dunno, but I thought, benefit of the doubt. However, as the minutes are ticking and still no one speaks or offers a courteous "I'll be right with you" "welcome" "just a moment", nothing ‍ I start looking around in disbelief because the other customer is sitting down, no one else has walked in, there is literally no hustle and bustle going on. I'm simply being ignored for 5 mins or more. That may not look like a long time in a review, but in a practically empty restaurant, it's kinda weird. So I eventually just said aloud "I guess not" (referring to the expectation of getting service) and left. I walked over to Cava where I received immediate acknowledgment and friendly service and was still able to get a bowl. There's a quote that references this kinda thing, it basically says, people will forget what you say, people will forget what you do, but they'll never forget how you made them feel. Writing this review with the sweet taste of strawberries and granola on my lips.. needless to say the açaí bowl was delicious. I have become an açaí junkie lately. I had never tried vale food co before, but I saw them on Uber eats so I took a chance. I didn't visit the restaurant , but I did get delivery. The food arrived neatly packaged. Utensils provided. The açaí was almost frozen so it was still nice and cold, not mushy! you have to freedom to choose the granola flavor and three toppings. There are tons of choices, and You can pay for extras. I got strawberry hemp granola with strawberry, banana, and white chocolate peanut butter toppings. I ordered the regular size for a $2 up-charge. I would hate to see the small.. I will say it was kind pricey.. but delicious! The ingredients were all fresh and complimented each other wonderfully. I ate the entire thing and loved every bite. I visited this cool little food joint for my friends birthday. She'd been talking about it for months and it was about time I gave it a try. It reminded me a lot of chipotle, you go up to the counter, order your food/drinks and then find a table. If you are vegan/vegetarian this is a great spot! I ordered a build your own bowl and my friends all got the Acai bowls. I had sweet potato noodles, with broccoli, mushrooms, and buffalo tofu with a creamy Caesar. Everything was cooked well and was tasty. The buffalo tofu was a bit too spicy for my liking, I would pick something else for my bowl next time. The açaí was the thickest I've ever seen, I was really impressed! However, I wish there were more toppings on it! The one thing that was a little off-putting is when I was waiting for one of the bathrooms, an employee emerged from one and decided to "vape" out the entire room. I'm talking plumes of smoke rolling out of the door as soon as she left. As someone with allergies/sensitivity to any smoke, I was mortified. Take that outside. I was VERY excited to see Vale make their way to Jacksonville, since I used to visit them quite frequently back in my Tallahassee days. We need more healthy / gluten free / vegan restaurants, so kudos to Vale for investing in Riverside! Simple concept that echoes the fast-casual chains alike. However focusing on fresh to order, good for the body alternatives. I'm a fan. Quick service and filling bowls, you get your bang for your buck here! The downsides, in my opinion, are the same as I remembered from years back. Mostly that sometimes, you receive items that have been sitting for a while. It's not like it's cafeteria food, but cold food is cold food. Now if it was cold pizza, I'd eat it up -- but that's just me. BBQ Braised Beef / Sriracha Honey Chicken Meatballs -- definitely not shy on flavor, very tender, almost soft in texture, hit the spot. Brown Rice / Chipotle Mac -- disappointing to me and my girlfriend, cold and bland. Broccoli / Brussels -- very good, simple as it should be. In my opinion, Vale could be a 1000% home run if there was more attention to detail with a few of the menu items behind the counter. I know it's tough behind the scenes to prepare food in a timely manner, retain quality, and not waste. I get it. Vale Food Co. is new to Jacksonville and is a Florida chain with only 3 other stores. (Besides the little cafe, they also have a subscription meal plan which seems to be interesting from a health and convenience POV, delivering fresh meals to you, already made and just needing to be heated up.) It's located in Brooklyn Station, next door to Burrito Gallery. Parking and entrance is actually the rear of the store since the front faces Riverside Avenue. Obviously, the first time I went, I HAD to try their Smashed Avocado Toast. I had high hopes and they delivered. It did take a bit of a wait because it is prepared fresh, the avocado wasn't just sitting around. Totally worth it. It wasn't on the menu that I saw, but the avocado toast also comes with either a cup of mixed greens or a fruit cup which they also make up fresh for you. (I asked for no bananas, no problem!) Nice hearty bread, lots of avocado, and I chose sprouts and feta as toppings. So delicious. Four slices and that fruit cup made a very nice lunch. That visit, I got a good look at the hot food being prepared for their bowls and was impressed enough to want to return to try them. Everything looked very fresh and in small enough amounts to not get old, stale, etc. I came back yesterday because I really wanted something healthy for lunch that wasn't salad. Vale was my very first thought. Of course, because it was the lunch rush during the week, the parking lot was a bit crazy, but I found a spot soon enough. Vale was busy but they moved fast. The way they are set up, it is a very quick in-and-out from ordering to receiving the food I ordered this time. I chose a Small Bowl ($7.95, 1 selection of base, veggie, protein, boost and sauce) over the Regular Bowl ($9.95, 2 selections of each). I am glad I did because even though the "Small Bowl" appears small, it is actually a really nice size helping of food. Either eating there or to go, its served in a biodegradable pressed paper bowl, very nice. I chose brown rice, buffalo chicken, roasted broccoli, feta cheese, and the avocado Caesar dressing. It was fabulous. I was only disappointed in that they had run out of the turkey feta meatballs that I had originally wanted to try and were in the process of cooking more, but I did not want to wait. Next time, I'll get there earlier since that seems to be a popular item. I really, really like Vale. I like the fact that, with tax, for $8.51, I received a meal that tasted awesome, I ate every single bite (because I chose what was in it), it was healthy, and honestly wasn't much more than a value meal at a fast food place. Quality and portion sizes have plummeted. Went at 1:30 pm and they were out of pretty much all protein options. There is no way the $10 bowl would satiate an adult. Veggies are always charred borderline burnt. It's a shame that this healthier option restaurant is a let down; so much wasted potential. read more

We visited 7/24/24 and the stinch and service were HORRIBLE. The miniscule portions were not worth the cost. The same broken refrigerators have been sitting empty since January. I've been seeing this restaurant when I go to the Y. It took a while for me to stop by. One thing that kept me away is parking, it's limited. This place is so busy that I get impatient looking for a spot. Finally with a $5 coupon I got through the mail, I stopped by. At first I had no clue how to order food. The staff was very helpful in explaining how to order. It reminded me of Chipotle. It did not take long to figure it out. Me and my friend ordered the Tofu and chicken dish. They offer a lot of healthy drinks, juices, infused with herbs. I had their water infused with herb. It was delicious & refreshing. About the store. When you first walk in it's quite small but there's a narrow hallway to the side with tables and also seating on the other side facing Riverside Ave. The food is so tasty and so fresh. It's such a healthy alternative to fast food & fatty tacos. I'm really glad Brooklyn has more food options. I'm sure I'll be back soon for more healthy, guilt free meal. read more

Happy Friday! Time for lunch! Once again not wanting to be pulled away from the office to scurry for food, I brought up my delivery app and searched. The final decision rested on this place. Their menu appeared to be super-healthy and after killing off the Thanksgiving leftovers it was time to start that diet over..well..at least until the next event. I decided to get a Regular Poke Bowl with brown rice, avocado, spicy tuna, sesame seeds, scallions and ginger dressing. I needed to get something to wash it down with, so I also got a Dragon Fruit Lemonade. Both items were excellent! I was a little concerned that a regular-size bowl wouldn't be enough but it was. The fish was very fresh and not that spicy, but that couldn't been the ginger dressing neutralizing it. Didn't matter to me. I was expecting the dragon fruit to be more of a syrup and overpowering but it tasted like they used the actual fruit. It still tasted like lemonade with dragon fruit essences. This meal hit the spot and I was very satisfied. There's some more items I'd like to try so I will definitely order from them again if not visit the restaurant. read more
