I had a very disappointing experience with Dr. Valentina Redden. I found her to be dismissive and unapproachable--when I asked follow-up questions about my treatment, she became defensive and unkind. After she recommended a treatment, her assistant provided a price quote that was more than I could afford. As a retired person on a fixed income, even with an offered payment plan, the cost was still out of reach for me. When I declined the treatment, Dr. Redden's attitude became even more unpleasant, and she refused to work on my teeth. I left the office feeling humiliated and disrespected. Given that her practice is located in La Habra, a working-class area, it's especially disappointing to see such lack of empathy for those with financial constraints. I had been going to this place for years and thought they had my best interest in their hearts. However, everything is all about making money. I get that it's a business, but still, don't cheap your loyal customers. Beware what they're charging for all everything!! If you're not supposed to pay, then make sure you tell them. I scheduled a preventative cleaning and they charged me $35 multiple times!! My insurance stated it is covered but that to make sure to always tell your dentist you just want preventative cleaning. Because I now know that they're adding extra medical codes to the insurance to make me pay more. *****MAKE SURE YOU TELL THE DENTIST THAT YOU JUST WANT A PREVENTATIVE CLEANING.... AND NOTHING ELSE***** Another example: I had a tooth that needed filling. The doctor recommended porcelain onlay. The front desk person, who usually calls insurance company to see if your insurance covers it, told me that mines doesn't cover. I trusted her! I paid ~ +$900!! I later found out, months later, that it was covered and I only had to pay ~$300 (a little over)!!! It took forever to get my money back. Horrible person, unethical practice. At my first appointment, I told her I wanted to apply to medical school and was looking for clinical jobs. She told me I'm "wasting my time" volunteering and it means nothing. Also that she applied to dental school with two hours of volunteer experience (which says a lot about her personality). I told her my friend recommended that I do clinical experience and he got into UCSF (one of the best medical schools in the nation) and she had nothing else to say. I'm used to dentists telling you to floss more, but insane that they now berate your career decisions. Besides being rude, I'm pretty sure she violated HIPAA rights. My mom emailed her an X-ray image that Redden adamantly denied receiving. She then had my mom go through her work email (with other patients emails) and my mom found it for her. She also has a combined waiting/treatment room so my mom overheard her talking to another patient and heard his whole treatment plan. She wanted to remove my wisdom teeth but she had this weird treatment (involving taking my blood from my arm to put in my teeth, which my dentist friend said was a scam) that we didn't want to do. We said we wanted a referral for a wisdom tooth removal. Turns out she gave us an incomplete referral and when we asked for a new one, she told us our insurance doesn't need one. We called the insurance ourselves and they said we need a referral for any specialist. The oral surgeon we saw also called them for the referral and they refused (again saying that our insurance doesn't need it). They then called me two minutes later while I was still at that dentist asking when I wanted to schedule my wisdom teeth removal with them. I repeated that I didn't want Redden to take out my wisdom teeth. We kept calling asking for the referral, and they kept saying they would do it, but it never happened. It got to a point where Dr. Redden hung up the phone on my mom. We asked one more time if we could just get it faxed to us, and they said we could come in person to get it. They then called a minute later saying we couldn't go in person. We went to see her in person anyways and she refused to let us in and we had to get the police involved to try and get the referral. She still refused. Horrible, rude, money-grabbing, inconsiderate individual. I have no idea how she became a dentist. License should be revoked. Seems like they're petty that I didn't want their treatment, so they're doing their best to make getting my wisdom teeth out as difficult as possible. read more

On 06/24, we visited Dr. Redden for a wisdom tooth consultation because she claimed to be an oral surgeon. However, she is not, and she displayed unprofessional behavior. She was arrogant, spoke excessively and loudly, and violated HIPAA by making me look into her email to find the X-ray we sent on 06/20/2024. There was no privacy in her office, as I could hear conversations with other patients, and they could hear mine. While I waited in a divided room, I overheard her entire conversation with an elderly male patient. Dr. Redden proposed a wisdom teeth extraction with an additional $175 charge per tooth for withdrawing and reinjecting blood into the cavity. When questioned about the necessity of this procedure, she responded dismissively, which raised suspicions of a potential scam. I requested a referral to see an oral surgeon, and she provided two. However, when I took one to an oral surgeon's office in Fullerton, it was incomplete, lacking treatment information. Despite providing Dr. Redden's office with the fax number and being assured they would send the referral, they did not. After two days, I called again and was told to pick it up in person. When I arrived, Dr. Redden yelled at me from the door, refusing entry and even access to the sidewalk. I had to call the police, who tried to intervene. Dr. Redden then claimed I didn't need a referral to see an oral surgeon. I have filed a complaint with the Dental Board (877-729-7789) and will also file a complaint with the Office for Civil Rights (OCR) at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) for the HIPAA violation. This experience has been stressful, time-consuming, and a lot of work. I want to share my unpleasant experience to warn others in my neighborhood before the Dental Board takes action. I will never return to this dental office and will work closely with the Dental Board to address this unethical and illegal practice. Dr. Redden's license should be suspended for violating HIPAA. I would give them 0 stars if I could. I have heard that Dr. Redden requires her employees to submit homework consisting of 10 emails each, aimed at generating 5-star reviews for her office on Yelp and other platforms. I will include this information in my complaint to the Dental Board. read more

Don't walk, run away from this dentist. They lied to me about having 18 cavities (they didn't even do x-rays) and they lied about me having a $1,500 copay to get them filled. Then they "called my insurance" to prove it to me but they actually called themselves. Someone in another room answered the phone pretending to be my insurance. I called my insurance when I got home and confirmed I have no copay on fillings. I went to a different dentist a couple weeks later and confirmed that I had no cavities. read more

I do my homework selecting my healthcare providers, and Dr. Redden is the dentist I have chosen and decided to stay with. When it comes to expertise, I compare Dr. Redden to top-tier dentists--those who've published highly cited research, graduated from prestigious dental schools, or are renowned for tackling difficult cases. Dr. Redden is absolutely at the same level. Her responses to my questions always carry clear logic and are right to the point. Some might not like that she is very academic--she uses Newton instead of Pound. I love it even more. As for patient care, Dr. Redden goes above and beyond what I've experienced with other dentists. My kid has not been diligent in cleaning his teeth and there is food stuck in two areas of his gum, leaving 2 pockets in his gum. Previous dentists would just remind us to improve cleaning habits, but Dr. Redden was both specific and hands-on in addressing the issue. She took the time to show me the problem in the mirror she held inside the mouth of the kid when she was in the middle of cleaning it. After I tried to capture a photo and thought I got it, she checked the photo and said I needed a clear photo to motivate the kid. She then instructed her assistant to bring a specialized camera and a specialized mirror. She held the specialized mirror herself and carefully guided the assistant where to aim. After a few attempts, she got the perfect photos and emailed them to me. I am going to print those out and hang them where the kid can see. Dr. Redden is not the dentist I am searching for my family. She is the dentist that I dream of for my family. read more

I did some work with Dr. Valentina on 2021 my daughter and I stopped going because we didn't consider her a good doctor. I called on 2024 to do a cleaning and when I got there she noticed I had work done and got very upset, she asked me why it took me so long to come back, and that COVID was not going to be my excuse, she said she didn't like working with clients who saw other doctors, she literately ask me to leave, refused to do the cleaning and Before I left she said, for you I'm Dr. Redden, not Valentina, she was insulted that I called her Dr. Valentina, I'm the client here, I should be treated with respect. For me she is a rude person a bad doctor who has no respect for clients will never recommend her. Extremely rude ... I put one star only because I had no choice,. I want to share my negative experience with Dr. Redden because I'm still shocked at how such a rude and unprofessional "specialist" is allowed to operate. I had an appointment with Dr. Redden for a cavity filling after having a dental exam a month ago with a different dentist in the clinic. As I'm sitting in the chair waiting for the appointment to start, Dr. Redden was informed that I had seen two dentists previously for fillings; one in 2019, the other in 2021. Before even talking to me, she decided that she didn't want to see me today or to continue my care in the future. Confused, I pressed for an explanation and Dr. Redden finally came in to talk to me. Immediately, she begins talking down to me saying that she doesn't like these kinds of patients in her office, patients "who are hoping around to different dental offices every month" and how there needs in be trust in a doctor patient relationship. I tried to explain that this was the first time I'm meeting her, I had the same dentist for 10 years and when she retired, Dr. Redden took over her office and patients in 2019. I came for a standard cleaning because I was already in the system, then I chose to see a different dentist my family members had experience with because their out of pocket cost for my dental work was much more affordable for me at the time when I was 19 years old. I expressed that I wanted to continue my care with her as my only dentist will follow up with her. Instead of understanding my situation, she rudely says "well if other offices know how to bill the insurance and we don't, then maybe you should go to them." Not allowing me to talk, she goes on about how getting a second or third opinion means that I don't trust her and she looked me in my eye and says that she doesn't trust me and doesn't want to see patients that are neglecting their teeth and aren't caring for themselves. It's absolutely ridiculous that she thinks it's acceptable to talk to and insult anyone let alone a PATIENT like that. Not only has she talked to me for all of five minutes, but is it absolutely not her business how I choose to care for myself. People come to the dentist expecting a genuine and non-judgmental human to care for them, if she had the audacity to say this to me, then who knows what she must be thinking every time she sees a patient that needs a root canal or an extraction. It doesn't matter how good she thinks her work is, it is absolutely unacceptable to have this kind of tone and attitude towards someone. Ultimately, it's a blessing in disguise. I definitely don't have trust in her after this conversation. There's so many excellent dentists in OC, please pick someone else if you respect your dignity. read more

I don't post reviews unless I feel I need to. I had never been to Dr. Redden office before and I was nervous to try a new dentist because I had a very bad experience in the past with ineffective fancy doctors where I spent THOUSANDS of dollars only to be left alone hopeless with the same problem again. Only people who had the same experience can understand that. So I went to the prosthodontist association to get a board certified practitioner reference near my house and I'm glad I did though. They referred me to Dr. Redden and she turned out to be a very good dentist! She took x-rays and she said that my problem could be resolved with those little interdental brushes and a mouth wash. She gave me references to other specialists that could help me further with my problem as well. I know I need more work done and she prescribed me those to be done whenever I could. I will definitely go back to have them done. read more

I was randomly assigned to this dental office by my new insurance. I was nervous to try a new dentist that was a randomly assigned place. I'm glad I did though. This is the best dentist I have been to! I am always nervous about going to the dentist, I have a number of "sensitivities" and have had bad experiences at some dentists. But Dr. Redden and her staff are great, they are not "OC fake" people; very down-to-earth. Dr. Redden listened to my questions and concerns, made me feel like I had my needs met (that is always my phobia with any appointment/service, will they really listen, will they make sure I leave feeling my needs are met). Many dental offices feel halfway medical and halfway car salesman-like. But not here, no pushing you to do a bunch of extra work you really don't need! Do not go to this dentist unless you have free money to give! They charged me $185.00 for a filling that fell out, twice! I called my insurance because I thought it was a steep fee. I found out that this dentist adds unnecessary codes to get more money out of you. Outcome, I should have only been charged $45.00 ($30.00 for filling service and $15.00 for some COVID fee). Waiting for a refund. My advise....check the charges and questions fees. Get the codes and charges from your insurance. I can't imagine how many people they have done this to. I think the monkey exhibit at the LA Zoo has a better pool of workers than these creatures. Once again, their efficiency is non existent and they were absolutely no help. My family and I absolutely love Dr. Valentina Redden as well as her staff! Dr. Redden is very gentle and takes the time to explain what she is doing as she is performing her work. We have been going to her for years; after she purchased the business from Dr. Arkalian who was also an excellent Dentist! When he sold the business he spoke highly about Dr. Redden and told me to give her a chance before going elsewhere! That's exactly what we did and couldn't be Happier!!! This post is actually for Tim, the guy below because I don't like what he wrote about me, a simple patient. I have been a patient in this office for more than 20 years and I can tell that Dr. Redden is a wonderful and highly educated dentist. She is way better than the previous dentist that retired in this office, that was OK as well. Tim, why don't you go to UCLA to take some classes? OOH! Hard to touch! Your education and comments don't make sense to anyone. I personally could not figure it out which is the bad part of town, as I drive regularly around this area: the west side of this dental office, where the Police Station, Library, Post Office and City Hall are? Or, maybe it is the east side of the office where the Community Center is located. Being in such a bad location how come the city is having fairs every year right there. I love the city of La Habra, I love this office, and especially the staff working there and of course Dr. Redden. Girls you are amazing!! The worst part Tim, is that you have never seen me, as I have been a regular client and a patient of this office and I have never been on the "COPS" as you claim. The Yelp should definitely look at people's posts like Tim's as Yelp becomes a very unreliable source of information, yelping such erroneous information to the public. So why should we use it? Look for credentials people! The third world office does not match to the leather seats and the latest digital x-ray machines that I personally saw in the office. So, Tim, why you did such a weird post, only God and you know, but being a false witness takes you to a place that is not to envy.
