First of all, I want to apologize for the pictures not being so great. We were all hungry and forgot to take proper pictures before eating. A group of 6 showed up near closing time. The staff was still as pleasant and lively as ever. The owner was there also came up to greet us with a huge smile. The waiter Charlie had to come to our table a few times because we were distracted with cheerful conversations. Nevertheless, he was pleasant the entire time. We settled for Hawaiian pizza, two chicken Parmesan entres, and a Chicken Cacciatore Pizza. I will highlight that it was a lot of food. Chicken parm was perfectly crispy and great amount of sauce. However the winner and surprised for me was the Chicken Cacciatore Pizza. Wow it was like they really made a mini Chicken Cacciatore dish into a pizza. The flavors and ingredients were all there. The onions, peppers and mushrooms were still so crunchy but flavorful I was taken aback. I would have thoughts those veggies would have over cooked. I have been here many times and love their BBQ Pizza and Chicken Buffalo. I was so glad I tried something different this time. Here you will love the food and the people. read more

Delicious food overall. The special steak grinder was slamming, though next time I'll ask for a size of marinara to accompany it. The steak wrap is BOMB. The steak is delicious but it's a bit small as you can see. I'd probably go for the sun next time but I found this to be better over the Philly with the exception of size Pizza is really good as well. Oh and the garlic knots, make sure you pick some up. even the takeout is minimal---restaurant not like it used to be ten years ago. Recently got a buffalo chicken pizza, just covered with hot sauce, maybe some chicken pieces or two. Most ordered sandwiches for meat are mainly bread drowning in tomato sauce. Atmosphere appears empty most of the time. Ledyard is crying for a good restaurant--sadly, not this one. read more

Called in a take out order, ordered a chicken parm grinder and a children's chicken tender and fry for my daughter. Get there grab a can of coke. Young women at the counter says grinder and a cheese burger? I said no, chicken fingers. I said no big deal just remake and give me chicken fingers, asks me what sauce on the side and I got BBQ. Order comes up chef guy irate! Yelling towards me "you the one with the chicken fingers" he then takes it out on the girl (honest mistake things happen) and degrades her. That aside, as a self respecting Italian growing on New Haven's finest. Yeah this isn't it. Chicken Parm was a pathetic few strips of what they call cutlet and looked anemic on a non toasted loaf of bread. My child's tenders... who puts BBQ sauce Alredy on them and on the fries. We only went here because the B&B we are staying in recommended it. Our waiter was great. He was very informative about the menu and had a great smile. The food wasn't as great. My wife gets spaghetti if it's on the menu in most places we go. Thinking that an Italian restaurant would have great spaghetti was kinda expected. She didn't like the lack of flavor in the sauce and meatballs. The noodles were undercooked in her opinion. I got a calzone. The crust was still dough in some places and the cheese wasn't melted all the way on the inside. They didn't seem busy but I don't know what else the kitchen was making. We got some deserts to go. The chocolate cake was great. I am not sure if it came from the kitchen or was made somewhere else. I am sure that if I was to be in town again I would give this place another shot. But first impression only got 3 stars and that is because the waiter was as good as he was. The food alone it would have been only 1 star. read more

Like today we ordered take out a clams casino pizza plus an other large pizza, Stromboli and garlic knots, we love seafood- when we got home and tried the clams- they were BAD- I called to let the shop know, they insisted I bring the pizza back so they could "show the supplier". The were very much giving me an attitude and no apologies. When I got there some guy- I've never seen before eats a slice and tells me the clams are fine- then tosses the rest of the pizza. Guess the supplier isn't gonna get that pizza- yes they refunded me but he was very rude and insinuated I was a being dishonest- arguing with me about how he tasted the clams and I was wrong but he kept saying how honest he was- I told him I hope he doesn't get sick! The shop's ambiance is fine- pizza parlor in the front, a dining room in the back. Service during the day when the owner is in the shop it's good BUT Sunday afternoon forget it! Twice now I have called in orders over the phone & when I arrived, nobody actually sent it back to the kitchen. I was forgiving the first time, as accidents sometimes happen. This time I was met with the same situation, but the customer service from the manager on duty was abysmal. I was perfectly pleasant & forgiving, had proof I called in the order to the correct number, & the boys remember speaking to me due to a specific request I made. The kitchen staff was extremely kind & apologetic, & made my order within minutes of learning they messed up, especially for the second time. I get home, & I am missing a significant item from my order that I requested over the phone & twice at the counter to confirm. The boy at the counter even told me my item would be done in just a few minutes. I called back to let them know, & the woman managing was extremely condescending, saying they did not charge me for this item because I did not order one, which is most certainly not the case. Listen to the call, even check the cameras if you're looking to double down, but don't gaslight your customers in an attempt to save face. I am unsure if I was mistakenly not charged for it on their end, as I didn't take a receipt, but that is beside the point. I was even going to return to the restaurant to get what was missing (& obviously pay for it if they did indeed forget to charge me), but after this phone call I did not want to be met with the same level of passive aggressive disrespect in person. She was clearly agitated, rude & in no way apologetic for the carelessness in this situation. The food here is okay for what it is, but being one of the only popular restaurants in Ledyard Center, one would think a manager wouldn't resort to hostility instead of a simple apology, & an offer to make things right. Just moved to the area and decided to give this place a try. The food is ok. The pizza seems to depend on who makes it. Sometimes the dough is hard and difficult to chew. Other times it's good. The first few times I visited Valentino's, the pizza was fabulous. We drive 15 minutes (30 minutes round trip!) just to get their pizza rather than the local pizza joints. However, last time we were majorly disappointed to get home and find our pizza completely charred on the bottom... Very disappointed, Valentino's... Unbelievable! Decided to give them another chance today, since it was on the way home. First of all, the guy who answered the phone was so rude that it absolutely blew my mind. I couldn't even communicate the order without him interrupting me to say "is that it". Happened at least three times. All I ordered was a small grinder and a pizza. My sister arrived to up the order and he said he was never told about the pizza. So he took an OLD one out of the case and popped it in the oven instead of making a new one. It was completely cold when she got it home. The grinder was horrible as well. The bread was hard as rock and obviously old. It looked like they just threw ingredients at the bread from across the room. The tomatoes weren't even in the sandwich!! I will NEVER go to Valentino's again and I encourage fellow Yelpers to avoid as well. read more

By far the worst 2 grinders I have ever had. Got a salami, there was 4 super thin pieces of salami, 2 slices of tomato on the entire grinder, 2 very thin pieces of cheese and a pinch of lettuce. the bread tasted like it was yesterdays or the day before and very tuff. To top it off I requested it be toasted and it wasn't. My wife's roast beef wasn't any better. She actually threw it away and ate yesterday's leftovers. I should of have driven back and asked for a full refund but we are chalking this up to a learning experience and will never patronize this establishment. Cute local pizza place in the area. Solid service. The vegetarian pizza is by far one of the best I've ever had. Great toppings. However, overall I found the crust on their pizzas a little too dry. Best pizza in the area. We often travel up to New London, had pizza from a few locations and this one is pretty solid. They were nice enough to make me a half grandma, half regular Sicilian and it was really tasty. I did like the sauce on the grandma side a little more. Overall great experience, friendly staff and tasty pizza. Will be back next time we visit. read more

Update: I've lived Ledyard for about 8 months now and the most important thing I have learned is that Valentinos is the neighborhood pizza shop you've always wanted nearby. The folks there are friendly and amazing. I still think the best method is to order off the menu and don't ask for anything special but they'll deliver on what you get with a smile and amazing quality. Old Review (July, 2018): The pizza at Valentino's is really good and consistent. Just don't ask for any changes to your pizza. The crew does not seem to hear anything past what menu item you ordered (e.g. white vs red pizza, lite sauce). So stick to the menu and don't deviate. read more

I called in my order and was treated very politely. I can NOT say the same when I entered the building. The young man behind the counter asked if I was ready. I informed him that I called. He looked at me very quizzically. I said to him again I called in my order. He turned his head to the side and put his hand to his ear indicating for me to speak louder. After I repeated myself 4 times, he walked away frustrated and yelling he couldn't understand me with my mask on. I stood there while he angrily spoke about not knowing what I am saying. An older woman came to the register and asked me my last name. I told her and she said, "I can't understand you wearing that!" Her manner indicated much disgust and impatience. Oh hey, they still suck. We tried them yet again because they are so close to us and they messed up 2/3 pizzas. They asked us to accept the messed up pizzas with the promise of comping a cheese pizza for our next visit. We agreed (idiots) then after a week, we called and ordered 3 pizzas and mentioned the free cheese pizza from the previous mistake. The owner's daughter said we were lying. She said it never happened and if we were "so desperate" for a free pizza then she'd just give us one. That wasn't the case. We declined her "free" pizza and our entire order. The owner's daughter also previously stated that she wished they didn't have a military discount when we were in line to order. That isn't smart to announce in a military dense town. read more

Placed an order on the phone of a bacon cheddar burger pizza, mozzarella sticks, gorgonzola cheese bread, and a dinner sized fettuccine Alfredo with a house salad w ranch dressing. My girlfriend was already out so went to pick it up. She was charged $47 and was given the order. When she came home I asked her where the pizza was and she thought I ordered a cheeseburger so thought it was in the bag. Only items that were in the bag, were the dinner, bread, and mozzarella sticks. I called the restaurant and told them that we didn't receive the pizza. After a little discussion, the person on the phone said they would deliver the pizza to us. After about 15 minutes, the pizza arrived and during that time, we also realized that we didn't not receive the salad that came with the dinner and told the driver. He stated that he would call me back from the store and offer a discount next time. I received that call and he stated that my name would be at the store and I will receive a $5 discount next time I come there. I definitely will not be coming back for the over gracious $5 discount for all our trouble. Thanks but no thanks! read more

I have to admit when I first walked in here I wasn't too impressed. It had the decor of a typical take-out pizza joint and did not strike me a nice Italian restaurant. I was pleasantly surprised, however, when the bread and oil were served. The bread was hot and homemade and went perfectly with the oil. I would have to say it was one of the best breads I've ever had at a restaurant, and it took a lot of effort not to fill up on that prior to my meal. For my meal I ordered the Gnocchi Nonna Teresa which was absolutely excellent. It came with fresh spinach, sun-dried tomatoes, HUGE artichoke hearts, and an awesome sauce. I also added chicken but it didn't need it. The chicken was good but there was plenty of food without it and it seemed a little out of place in that meal. The dish was so big I was able to get two additional meals out of the leftovers (part of that was because I had a little too much bread before my meal). Overall I would definitely return here when I'm in the area. I also really appreciate that Valentino's cares so much about their community. I probably never would have found this place if they hadn't been hosting a fundraiser to help a local family. It's nice to see a local business that is still closely connected with their local community. read more

I have been eating at Valentino's for close to 30 years, anyone who's from the town of Ledyard knows its the best pizza in the state outside of New Haven. I can't recall ever having a bad experience there or the food every being less then amazing. Even after moving out of CT, I still stop there every time I visit my home town for the nostalgia and for some great pizza slices. Best pizza I've had anywhere in the country. read more

~Glass In Food~ My in-laws live near this restaurant, thus frequently order pizza from it and quite enjoy it. So my husband and I decided to order some pasta from them, thinking we would receive the same quality. We ordered Clams & Mussels Posillipo, Fresh "Homemade" Mozzarella & Roasted Peppers, Pasta é Fagioli, Gnocchi Nonna Teresa, & Spaghetti Nonno Nunzio. We weren't able to have more than a bite of our entrees after finishing the first 3 dishes that evening, so we ate them the next day for lunch. Well my husband was halfway through the Gnocchi dish when he bit something hard and chipped his tooth. We didn't think too much of it at first, thinking perhaps it was a clam or mussel shell from the appetizers last night but when he finished he found GLASS in the dish. We were obviously disturbed and wanted to let the restaurant know so that they could look into it and ensure that no one else got hurt. Not only was this restaurant unapologetic but they actually accused us of lying and planting the glass! My MIL took the dish in to show them and the manager claimed they do not use any glass in the restaurant and that we must have put it there, even after explaining that we were not after any compensation! I have never written a review in my life but this definitely warranted one. This restaurant lacks quality and integrity and seriously needs to look into their customer service practices especially when it comes to their managerial staff.
