We went to Recovery Room Pizza to try a local pizza joint in New London. It is the epitome of the local New England pizza joint, a small storefront place with tables spread across a couple of rooms. The menu is true Italian community food. The service was excellent, especially since we were a party of six and descended on the place unannounced. My wife and I did order pizzas - she ordered the shrimp and artichoke pizza and I ordered the Margarita pizza. She loved her choice and gave it a score of ten out of ten. I gave my Margarita pizza a four out of ten and think that that was generous. My complaints - the crust was quite wimpy, undercooked, and the entire pizza was overpowered by the basal pesto! I have never had basil pesto, or any other pesto, on a pizza! I will give the Recovery Room another chance and will try the Margarita pizza again. But, I will ask for fresh basil and be specific that the pesto is not to contaminate the pizza. My long experience with pizza making is that they must be cooked on a stone and the oven must be 500F or higher to get the crust the way I like it. The Recovery Room most likely takes its name from the Lawerence Memorial Hospital which is just a couple of blocks away from the restaurant. read more

The food was excellent had great portion sizes and very good value for the amount of food that you do receive. The service was also very good and the waitress seemed to be very attentive, even though it looked like she had a lot going on. The look of the restaurant was nice and quaint. Aunt up class was just down to go in as you are type of meal. I think it is a diamond in the rough as my wife put it while we were eating. It's a place that I would definitely go to again if we are able to or ever in the area again. But if you're in the area and you wanna try it out go for it I don't believe you'll be disappointed. This was the first time I have ever ordered from here. I ordered the meat lovers pizza. I've never been here before so this was our first time at recovery room pizza. The pizza came out relatively fast, which would explain why it was very undercooked. The crust was very doughy- Even the Italian sausage topping looked raw. Not good. We haven't been to Recovery Room in quite some time but stopped for a late lunch. It's still as good as we remember. The chopped pasta salad is always a go to item on the menu. Definitely add the blackened chicken and it's a great meal or shareable item. We also shared the buffalo chicken wrap, which had good tang and was enhanced with some nice crispy bacon. The fries that came with that sweat were some of the best I've had in recent memory.. Our server was ultra attentive, checking on us very frequently to see if we needed anything. She was truly amazing. The decor is a little bit dated, but it maintains a homey atmosphere. Our table top had some cracking on it from age. The restaurant is very clean. Came here for dinner on a Friday evening. Parking was easy in the back. We were able to get seated immediately. Inside is quaint. The menu has a variety of pizzas and dishes and appetizers. I like how the menu was arranged by white and red pizzas. We ordered the house salad because my friend said great things about it. It was tasty and a pretty good size. I got the steamed Asian Chicken Dumplings, Olive Bread, and the Sausage pizza, and honestly the olive bread was pretty much the highlight of all three, and even then it was very salty. The olive bread came with a very nice pesto, Parmesan topping, which made for a delicious combo. The olives however, were too salty for me (personal taste). The sausage pizza that came out had a very homemade aesthetic and taste to it, like you could not go to dominoes for this pizza. We added jalepenos to it, however the jalepenos were very salty, rather than spicy. And the worst dish I've had in connecticut to this date was here, the Asian Dumplings. There is a saying, "jack of all trades, master of none" that I feel applies here, it's as if the chef costumed this dish in so many different cultural styles (east Asian, European, American) it ends up having an identity crisis, canceling itself out into low-light mediocrity out of the sheer pressure. In almost half the ingredients (corn, lemongrass) did not complement the meat in the dumpling at all, and stuck out like sore thumbs, and for some reason had a lettuce/kale bed (?), and the taste was just overall bland and bitter, and disappointing with no redeeming quality about them besides the aesthetic, all despite how much effort looked like went into the dish. The service was very polite, and we got our food within 15 minutes. The ambiance was noisy, and the music was very quiet, much on par for romantic dining scenes. read more

Visited Connecticut for the month and decided to try this place out. It's a smaller establishment with a good old time feel. We ordered aracinis, chicken parm and the tortellini. The warm bread they serve was great. The Arancinis reminded me of the ones I ate in Rome which were incredible. My fiancée liked the chicken parm. I didn't really like the tortellini but I think it's more of a personal preference (if you like tortellini, I think you'd love it). The service was top notch as well. The chicken was breaded nicely however it lacked that authentic "buffalo chicken taste". The bacon had a nice smokey flavor but it was way too powerful for the pizza. The pizza tasted like we were eating a bacon pizza with hot sauce on it. I like bacon, but it was not enjoyable on this pizza, it was way too over powering and took away from the rest of the flavor of the pizza. We have been long time customers. Ordering delivery almost weekly. Today after placing an order I have place a half dozen times, I was called back to say that there was a $45 minimum for delivery. Just all the sudden. First of all that is an insanely high delivery minimum, especially since they have drivers on staff and aren't using a third party deliver service. Really disappointed. Recovery room is my go to spot for a decadent salad in the area. If I'm working during lunch time I frequently find myself craving their Asian salad. It's got chicken, angel hair pasta, wontons, mandarin oranges, and tomato's over salad greens. It comes with the most delicious champagne honey mustard dressing that I adore. The chicken has a peanut sauce on it too. Sounds funky but I'm telling you this salad rocks. I love their chopped pasta salad too but the Asian is my favorite. Service was great. Prices fair. Portions ample. The restaurant makes a clean and sanitary appearance. The food is not all that great. :( The pizza is not that thrilling. Salads are a good size but needed extra dressing. One of our entrees kind of sucked. The other was very good. I would have expected a meal like this at Olive Garden. . Quaint little hang out we found when we decided to treat our son with some calamari. I would gladly say they make the BEST Calamari I've ever eaten. Parking is a little tight and venue itself is small, but their food is worth it. I was disappointed I had to buy the marinara sauce separately - if I bought french fries, do I have to buy the ketchup?! They told us we couldn't sit in the dining area but we could sit in the bar section because we had no reservations. A party of 4 came in as we were sitting.
