This is an amazing bakery located right in the middle of the seafood City grocery store in the mall. The only reason I couldn't give it five stars is because it's literally right next doors to a Red ribbon bakery that is basically just as good and I always have trouble picking between the two. I feel like this place has more authentic and potentially tastier baked goods, but red ribbon feels a little bit nicer so I generally just alternate based off what I'm feeling that day. We visited Valerio's a while ago and got tried out all of these awesome foods. Everything we tried that day was awesome. We tried both the chicken and meat empanadas and liked the beef one better. It had so much flavor. The wrapper was flaky and delicious. But for us the stars were the banana roll and the flan. OMG..wow!! It's been awhile since I've gone to Valerio's, since I don't go to Southcenter often. Since I was in the area, I had to pick up their Kutsinta, Carioca, and Bulilit Ube bread, since those are my faves. The kutsinta looked lighter in color from what I used to get from there. The annatto color was not as deep in color as it was in the past. Even the sweetness was missing. Thank goodness I only bought the 6-pack and not their bigger pack like I normally would, Next was the Carioca. Luckily I only bought 2 sticks. It was not crunchy at all! It was soggy. What a disappointment. I should've suspected something when the Tita ringing me up kept looking at me as she was getting the Carioca in the display case. Like she knew she was giving me an old batch or something, Last, the bulilit Ube bread. My kids used to love eating these when they were little, because of the Ube and how it was the perfect serving size for them. Ube was not as tasty as it used to be either. I don't know what happened. Either they started changing up their recipes or their quality is going down hill. Sadly, I will not be coming back for those items again. read more

It's wonderful that they have finally remodeled the area where Valerie's bake shop is at. It's now a bright and inviting space. The check out is now at the back of the shop instead of in the side making it just slightly easier to navigate the two small aisles in the bakery. The baked goods here are always fresh and plentiful. My son goes ham for their puto mix and would easily kill the box in one sitting if I'd let him. The puto are always soft and fresh with the perfect balance of sweetness. The pan de sal is solid here too. Love to come here when I'm craving it. & know that it hasn't been sitting on the shelves for days. BEST PANDESAL EVER!! Valerio's Tropical Bake Shop in Tukwila has THE BEST pandesal and beats out to any of the Valerio's pandesal I've tasted in Southern California. If you've never heard of pandesal (or pan de sal), it's Filipino bread that's mainly eaten for breakfast with coffee or tea. The first time I tried the pandesal from this bakery was when I was visiting my brother in Washington and he warmed some up for breakfast. My family and I enjoyed it so much and asked where he got it. His local Filipino store carried the Valerio's pandesal made from this Tukwila location. This bake shop is conveniently located less than 3 miles away from SEA-TAC airport! We went there before our flight to bring some bags back home and to bring back to my family. Why not? I don't know what makes them so much better than the others but it could be the Washington water - I don't know. To give you an idea, I like my pandesal barely toasted in the toaster oven (200-250°F for like 5-7 minutes), or when time is short a quick 10 seconds in the microwave. The pandesal here is so fluffy inside and full (not hollow like other pandesal). It's got a good weight to it. When you pull it apart, it's got some stretchy pull to it. And it's not too chewy and not crumby. It is perfect!! And the taste is slightly sweet - I can't rave any more about it. It's just good! Now, enough about their 10/10 pandesal. This Valerio's is actually located next door to Seafood City inside the Westfield Southcenter Mall. They have 2 aisles of Pinoy (Filipino) pastries and desserts in the display case. We really only came for the pandesal but also brought back other goodies to try. And, yes, the treats taste better in Washington!! The prices are affordable too, just like most Pinoy bakeries. The service is okay. I'm only knocking off a star because, during my second visit, their "LINE STARTS HERE" sign was located in 2 places. Like, where does the line really start? It confuses the customers like the Lolo who cut in front of me, and the cashier knew it. Oh well. Overall, I came here for what I needed. And what I got was the best pandesal - nothing else out here in SoCal can match the fluffy yet dense pandesal from Valerio's Tukwila. I've been supporting Valerio's since they started out in Ranch 99 and moved into Southcenter Mall when Seafood City opened. My family absolutely LOVES their pan de sal and don't go anywhere else. Their other goodies are great too like their ensaymada, pan de ube and pan de coco are my other faves. I don't know what we'd do without them as all of our holidays and just everyday bread isn't complete without pan de sal. The staff is always so friendly. I usually drop by this bakery every time I'm in Southcenter and grab their chicken siopao and some Filipino desserts. But I'm beginning to notice the quality is slowly declining with the chicken siopao. From time to time I will come across a batch that has 1/5 chicken ratio to bun with bun being 4/5. I bought a couple of products here such as the pandesal, maha mais, hopia monggo, puto and kutsinta. The puto was dense and seemingly half cooked so we still needed to steam it. Even after steaming it was still so dense. My guess is that they have started using regular flour instead of rice flour to save on costs. In today's day and age of expensive food, people deserve quality. Not coming back here. read more

I have been shopping at Valerio's since their original location in Great Wall Mall, nearly 20 years ago. From an affordable Filipino bakery where it's fun to try a little bit of everything, it's grown to be overpriced, undervalued, with sometimes questionable quality. This latest round of purchase will likely be the last and/or greatly limited in the future. Turon - Caramelized Banana Lumpia $1.45 I remember when these were as little as 3 for $1 or 2 for $1. It's still pretty good, but it's more sugar ladened that it should be. Ube Carioca Balls $4.25 Holy moly, these are incredibly expensive. It wasn't take long ago when these were $1 a skewer. Even at street fairs, maybe it's 3 balls for $2. These are uber expensive. Taste wise, they are good. Sapin-Sapin $8.99 These have shrank in size (used to be 9 pieces per package), now it's six, and have increased in cost. Taste wise, they are inferior to some of the other local companies. This is a hard stop and will never buy these again. Ube Puchinta $3.79 These are half Puto (cake like) and half Kutsinta (chewy texture). I thought this lacked flavor, more purple dye than ube flavor. The texture of both layers is legit. Maha Mais $3.29 This is a corn based snack. Cost wise, it's the most reasonable but I still think I'm eating a lot of food dye. Hopia Ube $4.69 This is one of the more classic options shared amongst several Asian culture. Surprisingly not so busy on the day of Halloween. This is my first time here since every time I go, it's always packed. I used to go to the one in LA and when you ask for freshly baked pan de sal, it would come fresh from the oven itself and not pre-packed a few hours before. Maybe it's for efficiency and productivity to help the employees serve the customers faster, since the place can hold one single line of customers. The selection of Filipino pastries is incredible. We asked for 6 cariocas and paid for 6 but the lady assisting the cashier only placed 5 in the bag. We didn't realize getting ripped off until we got home which is a 2 hour drive. Wow, this is a treasure trove of Filipino baked goods. I live in Seattle, but lately have been exploring Filipino cuisine and culture outside the city - and this is a fantastic find. I originally came for the grocery store (Seafood City) that Valerio's is embedded in, and it's so fun to explore and read up on all the unfamiliar goods. If you thought ube was a food trend - well this is OG and there's TONS of treats containing it. Being Chinese and having already had my fill of Chinese bakery chains in the area, this is a breath of fresh air and the pastries I have tried here are delicious. The chicken deluxe is pretty good, with a fluffy, sweet bun with a savory, chicken pot pie-like filling. The Spanish bread was made of similar bread, and had a pleasant subtly caramelization on the surface and fluffy, slightly egg bread. Inside was a super buttery, coconutty, milky and rich paste! Next time I'm in Westfield Mall, I'm picking up another treat from here I haven't tried before :) read more

Yummy Filipino treats and breads are to be found here at Valerio's Tropical Bake Shop! Valerio's is a great bakery located within Seafood City. They make everything fresh in the morning. I've seen them slather on the butter, glaze and whatever goodness goes on top of their sweet pastries. But my favorite items here are the several items, stuffed with ube or taro! I love ube and taro, so it's awesome that they have a solid selection of sweets here with these flavors. But there's a lot to choose from, with savory to sweet, or breads as a side, or desserts for a post-dinner treat. I recommend visiting Valerio's for Filipino baked goods, especially if compared to the baked goods at Seafood City. Valerio's is fresh and affordable. And ube is bae. read more

Pan de Sal (regular or whole wheat) dinner rolls are my favorite, I also like their sweets rolls, Pan de Ube (Purple Yam) and Pan de Coco (coconut). Still 4 stars. The quality of the baked goods are still just as good as when I wrote my first review. I continue to buy a bag of pan de sal anytime I am down south shopping at Seafood City. Though I do want to mention the pastries at the counter are good and cheap too. The guava turnover and ensaymada here makes for a nice snack. Not to mention they are less than $1 each making them a good value. On the negative side, the line to pay here moves quite slow. Particularly on weekends when Seafood City is packed. They have two staffers at the front counter, but it still can take a while to pay and leave. Best to come here on a weekday or a little earlier in the day to avoid the mall crowds. Still that is not a reason to avoid this place. The Filipino baked goods are worth the wait. read more

I was a long time supporter of Delite Bakery on Beacon Hill in Seattle - until the day happened that my siopao filling went nearly missing and the puto went all moldy the day after. Thankfully nothing went awol with their pan de ube and sugared twists (pilipit). So I was told to make the trek to Valerio's Tropical Bakeshop, adjacent to Seafood City and Grill City at Westfield's Southcenter Mall in Tukwila. The staff were packaging and putting out fresh baked goods as I stopped in for the first time - good sign! It was quite a haul for under $17: package each of plain ensymada, cheese pan de sal, pan de ube, pimento cheese pan de sal, and two hopia baboy (pork). Wow - amazingly fresh and tasty. I guess to get my Filipino merienda carb load I'll have to do the occasional further southern journey to Valerio's! read more

Hot Pandesal is a winner here. The store also offers wide range of local Pinoy pastries from puto to kutsinta to sapin-sapin, suman to nilupak, hopya to ensaymada. The store is decently size but because of the crowd that frequent the place. You better expect lines of people coming here and that will speak for itself how popular this place is. If we shop over Seafood City, we always end up here to grab some essentials. I don't think I've had anything there I didn't like but then again almost everything is smothered with sugar! lol! Valerio's has other good Filipino snack/sweets to quench your palate and raise your risk of diabetes... so a good spot to get your fix! I'm so happy this bakery came to SEATTLE. I've been a fan since Cali and it started with the cheeserolls. Anywho...everything is made fresh and people can't get nuff of their bake goods including the fresh baked pandesal. They also have banana-q, just friggin' good.... I tell ya! They have a lot of filipino baked goods, but they aren't made with the same care as Delite Bakery. The customer service here is just as horrible as the seafood city market they are in. They ignore people with questions and just want to keep the line moving. Hidden in the corner of seafood market, Valerio is unassuming yet clearly the star of south Center mall. You can always find a long line of eager customers waiting to take home the freshest Filipino baked goods in town. There's a huge variety of baked goods and I decided to go for the ube bread that just came out of the oven. It was delicious. The sweet brioche roll was stuffed with ube paste. I bought a dozen for $5 and made sure to freeze half of it so I don't devour it all in one day. Definitely a fan and will be back! read more
