If you live in Visalia or visit often and have never had breakfast at Valhalla, for shaaaaaame on you. All of my family members who live in Visalia say that Valhalla serves the best breakfast in town, of course! There's just no beating it. This is another one of those quintessential Visalia restaurants. Been around for a long time, family-owned, cozy, people know each other, servers are super sweet like they are your family friend and the food is consistently good. I don't know why this place only has 18 reviews because it's definitely no secret. If you try to come on Saturday morning, come early or be prepared to wait. They have a cute little gift shop in the front of the restaurant for people to browse around while they wait. They have several rooms where large parties can be seated, which is nice if you want a little privacy. On to the food, the best part. It's just all around good. From the freshly squeezed orange juice my aunt is hooked on to the fluffy and amazing pancakes topped with fruit to delicious omelettes. They make great Belgain waffles and Danish pancakes, which seem exactly like crepes, but I believe they stop making both at 11am. Be sure to get an order of aebleskivers with apple butter! I ALWAYS do! Aebleskivers are traditional Danish pancakes in the distinctive shape of a sphere. They are solid like a pancake but light and fluffy like a popover. And don't forget the amazing apple butter! Even people who live in larger cities say they "love" Valhallas for breakfast. Their lunch is good too! read more

Absolutely delicious and authentic food, especially with their breakfasts and specialty Norwegian food. This is the only place that comes to mind when I want a delicious breakfast that never disappoints and is the only place in the valley where you can find fresh and warm abelskeivers, a true tradition. I have lived in Visalia for 18 years and this place was here way before that. When you walk in you are always greeted warmly by the staff and you find yourself in the middle of a gift shop (a la Cracker Barrel). The restaurant part is divided into different rooms, including a train room that is great if you have young children. I have never had a bad breakfast from Valhalla, but if you visit you must order the Aebleskivers (Danish pancake in a spherical shape). I don't like Danish sausages, but they have regular ones too. The eggs are always cooked to perfection and the portion sizes are generous. They also have a lunch menu but I've never had lunch there, only breakfast. The place can get very busy, even on weekdays with business crowds, so if you don't want to wait long, then go early morning (before 8am). They are closed on Sundays. If you find yourself in Visalia early morning and want a great breakfast to start your day, wherever you may be going, then give Valhalla a try, you will be glad you did. read more

Delicious breakfast with a Danish kick. The Aebleskivers are bomb! They're like little pancake balls of goodness! You get a great breakfast here in a very clean atmosphere from very friendly staff. This place is really good. I was I town for a couple of days and I came here almost every morning for breakfast. I have ONLY had their breakfast, but, it is delicious. My favorite breakfast plate is the sausage and eggs. This place is also a store, when I first visited I was thrown off because I didn't know how it worked because the store is the first half and the restaurant is in the back but just go in and the ladies are all friendly and will help you right away. read more

So for anybody who's familiar with cracker barrel.... This has that set up, kinda sorta. But the food doesn't come close, IMO. Walking in you step inside a cute gift shop. On the left you'll find gifts and cards for the older more artsy crowd. On the right you'll find educational tools, children's toys, and books. We were sat after a short wait, and led through the winding rooms of tables. It felt like we were at a private home with many kitchen tables filling all the rooms. That was cool. Our server was OK. She didn't offer to bring us water, as we ordered coffee. But she was fast and our food came out quickly. The food was sub-par, which was a little disappointing. I ordered an egg and toast breakfast, and hubby ordered an omelet. Hash browns still had freezer burn on them, eggs were good, the jam for the toast was yummy. Hubby got Danish pancake balls... I thought were great. This should've been a huge selling point! I had to ask what they were. On our way out, I saw a room especially for parties with children. That's what I would go for right there!! If I was a local, me and my other friends with kids would choose this place over any other place just for the set up. It was a separate room with a wooden train table and a cute wooden kitchen play set. Perfect for eating out with kids!! But I didn't get to enjoy it, I guess because I wasn't part of a larger party (bigger tables). Overall, I wouldn't go out of my way for the food. I might come here for specialty gift shopping and I would only choose this place if my party has alot of kids to entertain. read more

I love this place. Great food, nice location and attentive staff. Love the Blueberry pancakes. I also tried the Danish breakfast. Eggs, Danish pancake, 2 Abelskeivers and a Danish sausage link. The sausage was very good. It has allspice and possibly ground clove, but the added spices do not overwhelm the great pork flavor. The spice is perfectly subtle. I could eat here everyday even twice a day. They do breakfast and lunch, but I make a bee-line at 7 am for breakfast and thankfully avoiding bland one-note hotel restaurant food where I am staying. Wow - what a breakfast! The authentic Danish cuisine was fast, tasty and filling. The kid's room was wonderful for occupying two little ones. Most of all, the Danish sausage was remarkable and isn't something you encounter too often. Sometimes I forget about this sweet little spot for lunch in downtown Visalia! Stopped in today at 1, after banking across the street...perfectly paired split pea soup with an indulgent small serving of bread pudding! Hadn't tasted their bread pudding previously and WOW!!! Just moist enough, not too sweet, lots of raisins, just the right sized serving , with a small dollop of homemade whipped cream on top....yummmmm! Fantastic locally owned breakfast/lunch joint! Friendly staff too. My husband walked in and the staff knew exactly what he wanted. We raised our kids in the "Train Room", a special room with Thomas the Tank train table and a play "Kitchen" set for them to have fun while we enjoyed coffee and a meal. read more

Amazing!!!! We've been there for breakfast multiple times and it blows us away. Try there cinnamon rolls they are even better than cinnabons! The service is amazing and the rest of the breakfast tastes wonderful. I love the thin pancakes they make. The atmosphere is wonderful. One of the best restaurants in Visalia. Their pancakes are amazing especially the danish pancakes. 10/10 stars for customer service and even have a play area for little kids with a eating space in the play area to watch your kids. The restaurant has a nice German feel but it's just enough to not make you uncomfortable. read more

This restaurant is pretty good. I tried a few of the Dutch breakfast items for the first time. I would go back to try more items. The only thing I would improve upon is the thoroughness of the dish washing (sent back 3 cups of coffee for lipstick on the rim). Also, as you walk in there is a smell of old, damp carpet. Definitely kid friendly!!!! Happened upon this place after leaving the Sequoias, and glad we did! Stopped for a late breakfast an what a cute place this is! Wish I took pics... It's a busy coffee shop-ish diner w/a gift shop. Has a room specific for kids (tommy the train room), with toys, trains etc for the kids to play with. I ordered the danish sampler w/soft poached eggs that couldn't have been done better! Perfect! My first danish sausage... not greasy at all, but a lil more chew on the casing than I like. Wife n daughter split the blueberry French toast, side of bacon. Wifey ate half of my danish pancake as well! It's like a crepe... I ordered the frikadeller, open face meatball w/cabbage to go. OMG! Like a cold meatball on rye w/northwoods inn cabbage on top. Sooooo good!!! Service is great! The waitresses are so attentive. Place is clean! Everybody working there is helpful n kind. There should be a place like this in every city! Bit weird going through the gift shop to get seated at the restaurant, but it works! read more

Overrated. Food is good but not always worth the wait. No reservations for parties smaller than 6 and takes a while to be seated or get food. on friday we stopped by with 3 of our grandchildren thinking we would have breakfast and my youngest could play in the train room because he has love of trains .but after 20 minutes it was cut short. we walked in and were asked how many 5 we responded when the waitress walked up she told hostess .oh great. she seated us gave us menues.then more people were seated supplied drinks orders taken.we sat and sat then she walked by looking at the children and said I will be back .ok she walks over to more tables brings drinks and takes orders ..the topper her orders for people who got there after us were being delivered...still no drinks I asked again she said hold on.tell that to 2 autistic children who thought they were gonna eat.and not feel like outcasts. needless to say we left. kids didnt play the train and the waitress said Oh So Sorry. SHE DID IT ON PURPOSE .IDont recomend this resturant they are insensitive to special needs like there lepards. read more

Meh. wasn't that great. Think i got caught up in the hype so it skewed my expectations. The food was nicely prepared. The customer service was good. It was a fine place to catch up with friends. The shop is good for killing time while you wait for a table. I wouldn't make this an every weekend place, but if someone wanted to meet up there, i wouldn't object. read more

Long wait for food, forgot part of my meal, waitress did not check on us to apologize for wait or if we needed anything, charged our bill incorrectly and food was not all that. Pancake balls were seriously dry but everything else was okay. Nothing to rave about. Jam was good as well as the fresh squeezed oj. A quaint local restaurant that needs some updating. Love this locally owned resturant. The owners are one of the sweetest people I've met! Always making sure the customers are well taken care of. Everything I've tried has been amazing! Especially the ebilskeivers (sp?) If you haven't tried them then you're definitely missing out. Cute little gift shop out front and comforting eatery in the back. My hubby and I usually come every Friday morning, it's more of a ritual now a days! He really enjoys the waffles and omelets. Great spot for a family breakfast!! read more

i can't believe that i haven't written a review for my favorite breakfast place in town! when i was on a different schedule my bf and i would come here every saturday morning (early - because if you're getting there from 9am or later, you'll have to wait a little, or a lot if its a holiday weekend), as our schedule has changed, it is now an every once in a while treat. everything i've had from the menu has been great. nothing leave a big oil slick on your plate - which is so rare from a breakfast place! love their omelets, breakfast burrito, burgers, fries, hash browns - basically there isn't anything that we have not enjoyed. and the service is top notch. from the minute you walk in the door the minute you leave, nothing less than a feeling of warmth and kindness. my one and only complaint is that their hours don't work for my new schedule - so i don't get to enjoy as often, so it makes me sad :( read more
