The food however from the chips and salsa to the rice and beans, tostada, chile relleno with white sauce all seemed to be lacking in flavor and personally I would have enjoyed some spice in the food. I am a very curious person when it comes to food and if I find a spot that never disappoints me, and Vallarta is definitely superior to Mexican restaurants in Exeter when it comes to quality food. It is my go to place for Mexican food. Everything is freshly made from the tortilla to the meat and sauce. A wide menu variety that always has me trying new things. The service is great, everyone is welcoming and they work quickly to your needs. Very nice people and combined with great food, the experience couldn't be better. For most of my life I have worked inside restaurants and been served at many. Vallarta is a for sure favorite and I will always go back to it. read more

As a student of Exeter Union High School, lunch is a very important part of my day. Without lunch, I go into practice hungry and just wanting to go home instead of focusing on practice. Eating at Vallartas at lunch keeps me full and feeling great at practice. The student specials at Vallartas are a little pricey compared to competing restaurants, but the quality of the food makes up for that. I recommend ordering the carne asada burrito covered in chile verde. The burrito being priced at $7 is made up by the delicious taste of the chile verde. Vallartas also offers chips and salsa while waiting for your meal to get a quick appetizer in before your meal. Vallartas is a nice restaurant to sit with your friends and eat when that highly anticipated lunch finally rolls around. I had lunch with friends at Vallarta yesterday. It was my first visit, and I will be returning. There were four of us, all senior women, and we all ordered different items, including chile rellenos, tacos, enchiladas, tostados and burritos. Everything tasted fresh and pan hot, with flavorful sauces. The burritos came with chile verde, sauce, very fresh and not too salty as that can be. Service was good, as are the prices. In my opinion this place serves the best Mexican food overall in Exeter. The albondigas is delicious. Loaded with meatballs, celery, carrots, and all floating in a yummy, flavorful broth. They give you plenty of onions, and cilantro to top it with, and your choice of tortilla for dipping or whatnot. The nachos are plentiful, and well made, and the rice and beans are pretty yummy too. The chips and salsa here are addicting. I used to love their chile rellenos, but stopped ordering them after having a few bad experiences. The white sauce used to be smooth and creamy, but it seems that they aren't mixing out the flour lumps as well now. I've had big chunks of flour in my sauce that was clumpy and gooey. The tacos aren't the best here either, and fall apart before you can even get a bite. The service is stellar, and the price isn't outrageous. Definitely worth dining here if you stick to the basics. read more

The shrimp soup at Vallarta was wonderful! We had never eaten there before, and we wanted something light and fresh. We got the soup (split into 2 bowls), a half order of nachos, and a horchata. The soup had super tender shrimp and some veggies in a mildly spicy clear broth. It was light and fresh. We got what seemed to be homemade tortillas with it, which were slightly toasted (and delicious with butter). The nachos were normal nachos, with a yummy cheese underneath the veggies and other garnishes. The horchata tasted like a thanksgiving drink, with a little less cinnamon flavor and more other spices. I have been going here for many of years with my family, that the employees know us by name. This place is amazing. The people are nice, lots to look at, food is wonderful, doesn't take long at all. Why I rated 4 stars? Well it was because the bathrooms are located in a weird place, and the place is slightly worn down due to time, but this place is still awesome. It's not some extremely fancy place, it is just an average Mexican food restaurant, but that's okay! Good for any occasion :). Great find in downtown Exeter! Service was excellent and prompt and the food was outstanding! To start the salsa was amazing, just enough spice and so good! My daughter's chicken burrito was fabulous with subtle layers of flavor. The sauce on the ground beef enchiladas was smokey, sweet and unique.
