Welllllllllll I think this place just wasn't for me. I thought the cooked shrimp in the coctel had an odd texture. Of course Strathmore is far away from the ocean and i'm sure its all frozen, which I don't mind. However, this shrimp had an odd, flakey texture I didn't like. The jugo in the coctel didn't have much flavor either. It needed lemon juice and some SAZÓN. It was pretty bland. No tenía sabor para nada. I'm in town for the World Ag Show and had the opportunity to stay with my good friends the Sanchez family, so because of their hospitality I treated them to dinner...twice. This is the second night and the second dinner I took them to. This restaurant will officially open this weekend and I'm very happy to say that I was one of the fortunate few to taste the delicious food before many. As you can see from the pictures the exquisite presentation and without question some very delicious choices. There was yummy noises emanating from both sides of the table and everyone felt free to sample the dishes. The oysters were prepared on the half shell with a mix of other seafood, peppers and sauce, very tasty. I tried the nachos and thought they were fantastic. I was skeptical at first because there's no way there's fresh fish in the Central Valley but it's actually really good. I love that the portions are huge so I'm always able to share with someone and they are pretty generous with the mango. They all ways give a good amount of tostadas and crackers to go with the food which is always a plus. I prefer my shrimp uncooked/raw and marinating in the lime/lemon mixture so ask to be sure of what's in the order beforehand! The prices are pretty darn good for the amount of seafood you get. The towers are so insanely massive that the to-go box WILL NOT close if you order this - don't let this scare you this only is how well portioned they are -you'll have to eat or knock down some of your tower or ask them to make it so you can close the box lol They're already so busy that I would personally do it myself. Also the hours on here are not correct they're open at LEAST 1-2 hours past the time listed here. Be prepared to wait up to an hour for this - the wait is worth it so come prepared to relax under the fans this patio has - some mention mariachi music on the weekends! Also these tostadas are super addictive! I asked if I could purchase a whole bag and they did sell it - worth the purchase for those towers! Some people complain about less taste yes they are made with a light flavor profile- if you eat there in person (which is recommended) get the salsa you like there's like 10 on a table at a time sometimes I personally like the ones with habanero or the salsa Negra or tapatio they have salt in little packets & ketchup by the register. This hidden gem really surprised us! It's hidden behind a couple other businesses but you'll see their sign on the fence next to the path you drive through to get to the parking lot. Most of their options are seafood so we figured we'd try one of their popular items (mango shrimp ceviche). I had not had dorado tacos before so we thought to try that too. My wife and I stopped by after her cousin recommended this spot to us. Let me say, it did not disappoint. Mango Ceviche, Aquachille Ceviche and tacos dorados. Each was great. Mango Ceviche packed with the sweetness of the mango balanced with some Tajin. Every bite had a ton of shrimp. The aquachille had a nice flavor with a little bit of spice which was cooled by the cucumber. Both had sliced avocados on top. The tacos dorados were fried perfectly and the salsa they serve with them complimented them wonderfully. Very tiny operation and you would almost miss it but they are definitely pumping out some great flavors! One of the best ceviche spots I have been to. I have been a fan of this place for about 3 years now and this last visit broke the camels back. In the past, this was a worthy 40 minute drive to enjoy some delicious mariscos any given day. The quality has suffered greatly in the last few visits. Flavor in any of their cold dishes like the seafood towers, ceviches and cocktails is absent. Instead youre treated to bland and rubbery seafood that screams "fully cooked frozen". The shrimp cocido(cooked) is squeaky and tasteless, their curtido(lime cured) shrimp border on the raw side and their scallops are "by the way" out. I expected them to substitute the other servings and instead they left them out completely and did not add the staple spicy shrimp on top of the Chaparrito Tower #1. Cocktails are left to bland juice and those awful rubber pre cooked and previously frozen shrimp. The pulpo are now baby octopus with the bite of overcooked pasta, hardly a texture or flavor profile reminiscent of pulpo(octopus). The only saving grace from a single star was their Spicy Shrimp which were as delectable and flavor packed with a burn you keep going back in for. I understand that Covid has impacted business and likely revenue as well as the increasing costs of opening a second four wall location but this place was better and I'm sure can return it to that glory. I implore you to improve the quality of your seafood and bring back the old mouth watering flavors. Do not become the "same as every other mariscos restaurant" in the Central Valley. I look forward to the days of coming for 3+ hours of food, music, pulling in a chest of ice cold ones and ordering food to go after the feast! read more
