Ugh, the dreaded DMV renewal notice with a smog cert required. Let's face it, smog stations are a dime a dozen and they all charge different prices. However, I'm a firm believer in you get what you pay for. So, it was nice to discover Vallejo Smog through my Valupack mailers offering a decent coupon. Star certified is what was required and Star certified is what I got. Upon arrival, I was met with a fast & friendly greeting from Mike. They weren't busy at the time, so I was literally in and out within 10 minutes! This must be a new record. The only reason they didn't receive 5 stars from me is because they refused to honor any other competitor's coupons. I must be getting older, when the hell did smog tests start costing $85.00? Thankfully, I was able to negotiate a fair price and received the utmost professional service. It's nice to know in this day & age that the dying "professional customer service" motto is alive & well at Vallejo Smog. Thanks guys for help making the process a little less painful. read more

I can not give them 5 Stars Because no business is perfect and many true yelpers ignore a 5 star review. I needed a smog check, I was tired of my usual shop since they change prices every time I go there and have no good excuse why. I went to yelp and found the shop that had the most reviews. I also seen that with over 68 reviews, they still have a top rating. I called to see if I needed an appointment and a guy named Mike answered very politely and said they have several technicians and I could drop by any time and it should only take about 20 min. For a Sunday I thought that was good and with the good yelp review I decided to go on over. When you get there, tell them you found them on Yelp so they give you the $30 off, which honestly just brings the price right around where the competitors are (they mainly do that to see where the lead came from) When I arrived a technician named Rich came out and greeted me immediately. A hand shake, can you believe it, old school customer service, and he looked like a technician, not a salesman. I told him I needed a smog, he filled out the service tag right there by my car and told me it was $55 which is average to what every shop charges. My wife and I took off in our other car to get a coffee while he was working on the car. About 10 min later he called me up and told me everything passed except the gas cap was bad. This is a Test Only Station, they do not have to tell you nor offer to throw one in. Most places tell you to come back and retest, so I was impressed. He said I could swing by the auto parts store and grab one and he would throw it on and retest it real quick for no extra charge, or for $10 he would put on one of his. I told him to go ahead and put it on, considering last time I told my old shop to put on a gas cap they charged me $25, I thought $10 for a $6 cap was not bad at all, and it saves me the trip. My wife and I drove back right after he called with our coffees, and when we got there our car was parked and ready to go. Total amount of time all this took was 20 min. Wow, he wasn't kidding. I told him I was astonished by the service and I would write him a review. I was a bit concerned when he mentioned many people find him on Yelp, but they do not go back and give a review even though they say they love the service and would write one. So remember my fellow Yelpers, if you use Yelp to find something, it is your duty to write a review, good or bad. Otherwise in my opinion you do not deserve to use Yelp. Well that was my experience with Vallejo Smog, I'm an official customer now for all my vehicles, and I would recommend them to anyone. They are fair priced, perfect customer service, and a nice and clean shop too. Money well spent. read more

I did'nt pass the first time - crushed vacuum hose - these guys told me what was wrong, how to fix it and directed me up to AAA to get the registration done as fast as humanly possible. I read these reviews and have to agree with everything. I was greeted immediately before I even walked in. I was in & out in 5 minutes. I sat down, sent ONE text and was done! $55 including the $30 off coupon. They even have the option to pay your registration fee and get your tags on the spot for an additional $17.95! After the second smog check was informed of the retest price if you failed which wasn't mentioned the first time. When we asked about the price difference they told me I had an Exotic car.. Smog test shouldn't matter between say a Honda and a Ferrari, boo.. for inconsistent pricing. Tech also neglected to tighten down the gas cap, which set off the CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. I went in today got my smog done in 15 mins, I could have mentioned yelp to get discount but with what is going on it would be the worst cheapest thing to do to our businesses, I went there because of a yelp review where he called out a lying customer about a catalytic converter, people should not hide behind yelp and lie about honest people!!! I had my sons car done here, a stick shift jaguar a while ago, these people are decent responsible, he cleaned my keys and my credit card with disinfectant before and after, what a responsible thing to do. In and out in 15 minutes this morning. After dealing with many smog places who said that they couldn't smog my car (2006 V6 Saturn Vue), this place did it with no issues! Staff was super nice, and I couldn't be happier! Don't waste your time with a dealership when you can take your car here. I will definitely be bringing my car back for every smog, and tell my friends to bring all their cars there. The guy who was working here was awesome. I thought I could do the DMV required Smog Check for like $25 at Midas but looks like I needed the TEST ONLY one, which I don't really understand. I was surprised that it would actually be like $90. Cruds. But what am i gonna do, I can't not do it. They referred me to this place just a little further down the street and gave me $10 off coupon so i brought it in, but the guy for some reason gave me $20 off, which was really cool. The whole process took like 15-20 mins. The waiting area was small and cozy with a small coffee table stacked with dozens of magazines for you to read while you wait. I've brought two trucks to this location and would highly recommend this business. Wait time is minimal and the owner is very personable. The waiting area is very bare, but clean with a few seats and a table. Wi-Fi connection was a very pleasant surprise and nice to have while passing the time. "Ugg" is the only appropriate response to the note in your DMV renewal that you need a smog test. I immediately picture going to some place with my car, getting the test, and being told, "Oh, it needs this whatsit to fixit and pass the test. Cost ya $250 plus another $100 for the test." Clearly I don't know much about cars or how they work or how mechanics talk, but you know the feeling. That is why you go to a place that only does smog tests. Only. They don't do the repairs. It is just pass or fail. Thankfully there is a business in Vallejo simply titled Vallejo Smog Test Only Center. No bones about it. The best thing is that it is a really nice professional place. We didn't have an appointment but the wait was very minimal and comfortable. And the owner-operator guy couldn't have been friendlier. This place is so good, I really can't believe that I'm the first to review it here on Yelp. read more

Ok, so I was really skeptical of all the reviews here on yelp. C'mon, 27 reviews and all of them 5 stars?!? Well, looks like I'll be the 28th 5 star review. As others have mentioned, Richard greeted me as I stepped out of my car. Great first impression as he was very cheerful. I expected my car to pass with ease, but then Richard came back within 15 minutes and said that I have a slight problem. He stated that my timing was off and that he got audited 6 months ago by inspectors and was instructed to check for timing even though certain cars state no timing check needed for smog. Go figure. Skepticism kicked in again. Richard couldn't adjust my timing because he's legally limited to just running tests without conducting repairs (totally understandable). He referred me to Emilio at Quality Tune Up across the street who said they would adjust my timing for $45. I did that and passed on the retest. Thinking about it more, I figured there's no way he's scamming me by kicking me over to Emilio for a $45 job. And especially considering he has to retest my car for free afterwards anyway. That's a waste of his time and resources. Richard is an honest guy and his attitude is top notch. Thanks Richard!! On a side note: Great fishing stories in the waiting room. I loved them. read more
