My boyfriend and I often go to Valley Brew for drinks after dinner. We love the "cheladas" made by one of the usual bartenders. We expected tonight to be a little busy due to the start of football season so we arrived around 8pm, one hour before they close, which is usually more than enough time for a drink. As we expected, it was very busy and the bartender explained that to us as soon as we sat down. He mentioned that it would be a while for food but we assured him that we had only come for drinks. He came back to us, checked our IDs and took our order. We ordered our regular cheladas to which he replied, "would be a while". We are very patient people and we do not mind waiting. He then asked "do you want them the way the other bartender makes them?" Yes. He seemed flustered and then told us that he did not know how to make the drinks so he would not be able to do so at all. When we told him that we had decided to leave, he continued to showcase his poor attitude by sarcastically apologizing for being the only person taking care of the entire restaurant. First time here...I like it! It's a Sunday and they have three afternoon games playing. They've also got over 30 beers on tap and the food is looking good with the menu having a nice variety of things to order. There's plenty of outdoor patio seating available for when the weather permits it and the place just has that overall feel of a nice establishment to hang out at (not an easy thing to come by in Stockton). First off, don't believe the website. They don't brew anything and haven't for years. I wouldn't have gone had I known that. Good selection of other brews, though. My wife had the fish and chips, and liked it. My Reuben sandwich was okay, but had to use a knife and fork because the meat was too tough to bite through. Good food and good service/staff but the biggest problem is a few issues with beer, #1 this place does not do beer flights (first ever brewery I have visited where this is not available) issue # 2 there was no beer list on the table I had to walk across the restaurant to see the selection written on the wall. Issue#3 none of the beers I saw online were on the beer list at all, I have no clue if ordered a house beer or if it was from another company as the beer list wasn't very easy to comprehend. I love this place. I wish I could go there more often. It's a very laid-back vibe with usually good service, although there have been a few times it's been less than perfect. They have a fantastic beer selection and the food is great. Couple years ago they changed their menu and it's been Top Notch ever since. Good beers. M fiance is a huge fan of the London Tavern, while I prefer the Hitman's Gold. Last time we were in (maybe three months ago) they were out of almost 4 beers, which was a bummer. Food has been kind of a hit or miss. It's decent Pub Grub-we like the nachos and the Yam fries-but I miss the old menu (circa 2008? It's been a while..) Thank you to our server / assistant manager for addressing the issue in regards to changing beef patties to veggie patties. I had left a long review saying how disappointed I was that I couldn't sub the meat in a burger with a veggie patty. She said she will bring it up at her next meeting, which I'm hoping for!!!! This is my favorite local bar. My friends and the local residents come here on a regular basis for it's laid back, chill vibe. Lucas one of the bartenders is phenomenal and really knows his stuff. Laura and Brad (servers) are exceptional and they take care of you like family! The Ruben with sweet potato fries is my favorite thing to order. I love to sit out on their patio on a sunny day and have one of their many cold beers they have on tap. I love this place! read more

Really disappointed - wanted to love this place but We won't go back. Maybe 3 other tables there and services was spotty and slow. Food took over 1/2 hour to get to table. We sat outside - which has the potential to be fantastic but is sorely lacking. No salt,pepper,napkins,candles, flowers, - nothing. No music. It was one of those days at work; I needed a cold pitcher to calm my frustrations. Lucky for me, Valley Brew is just around the corner from my home. I love the settings of breweries. The exposed brick, dark, varnished woods, and vintage decorations are the perfect surroundings for a pub/sports bar. It's casual and low-key, yet welcoming and friendly. Since there weren't any major sports games on at that time, the place was pretty mellow. The patrons seemed comfortable and familiar with the establishment. I noticed the discrepancy in the name of the place "Valley Brew" and the Yelp entry "Valley Brewing" and inquired our server, Kyle, about it. He confirmed the name of the restaurant is "Valley Brew" and explained that they used to be "Valley Brewing Company" but only now offer only 1 house beer. Therefore, they no longer offer their notorious Black Cat Stout. The only house brew they offer is Indian Red Ale. This prompted us to buy a pitcher ($12, I think). (Interestingly, their website www.valleybrew.com is headlined as "Valley Brewing Company" with a logo "Valley Brew" and features 8 of their beers on their home page but only 4 beers under their "BEER" tab. So I'm not really sure what's going on here...) We enjoyed the Indian Red Ale; it is light and very drinkable. I also had a glass of porter which was also delicious and very much the opposite of the Ale. Neither was bitter. We ordered dinner to enjoy with our beer. Our server was super friendly and helpful. We heeded his recommendations and were not disappointed. We ordered the half-order of calamari ($8/$11) , Waylon Burger with sweet potato fries ($13), and Tri Tip Sandwich with seasoned fries ($11). All food arrived as it should: fresh, hot, and in a timely manner. The calamari was crisp and tender with an atypical, flavorful breading. It was a perfect portion for two to share. The Waylon burger came with barbecue sauce and onion rings. It was cooked perfectly. It arrived with a very generous portion of crispy sweet potato fries. They were seasoned with cinnamon which was definitely novel to me but perhaps the seasoning was a bit heavy-handed. The tri-tip sandwich was also tasty but fell short overall. The meat lacked the typical charcoal flavor and could have been a bit larger. We would have paired the sandwich with cole slaw but there's a $1.50 upcharge for coleslaw, side salad, or potato salad. Next time I'll try their Monte Christo sandwich since I don't see many places even offer it. Kyle managed to be an attentive server without resembling a gnat bothering you every 5 minutes. He apologetically addressed a time-lag in receiving our pitcher and later on brought extra napkins and to-go boxes without being prompted. An excellent server doesn't need to be inquired. Great job, Kyle. We also came here to watch the Diaz/GSP fight. The place was predictably packed but manageable. There are probably 8 TVs (not HD) which presents the first-world problem of which one to watch. We sat at the bar since we came late and the bartender was very friendly and responsive. We enjoyed the combo plate($15) appetizer in which you can choose ANY 3 appetizers. We had calamari, beer battered mushrooms, and garlic fries. The mushrooms were pretty good but I think they could use more seasoning. The garlic fries were unfortunately soggy and hard to eat because there was so much cheese melted on top. I might not normally complain about too much cheese, but it was a two-hand challenge which means I had to put down my beer AND take my eyes off the fight for more than 5 seconds. I don't remember tasting garlic, just cheese. Valley Brew has a great set-up. Besides the main bar, they have a large outdoor patio which is very pleasant on balmy, summer evenings. They also have a side rooms I've seen them use for art shows, bands, and banquets. They just recently partnered with UOP for a jazz event. It's great to see local businesses support their community; We need to keep places like Valley Brew alive in our city. Valley Brew is well-rounded; Excellent atmosphere, fantastic service, a wide variety of tasty beers, and good food. Prices are typical. I went for the Nick Diaz vs Anderson Silva fight. We paid the $10 entrance fee. Absolutely worst service I've had in nearly a decade. The waiters were only asking the big groups and ladies if they needed anything. I went to have beers and I only had one. I asked 3 times for beer and the 3rd time I asked he was rude because I didn't know what beers they had. He said,"we have 30 different beers buddy," and he sat down in anger. It wasn't until I went up to the guy and confronted him that I received the beer. We were a party of 3 men. So I think that was the reason they didn't care about us. I'm a diabetic and so is my friend. We needed water for 1.5 hours. We were suffering and getting aggravated. We asked so many times. We were still nice enough to leave a tip. I had the small Valley Brew Special Pizza. Pre-made dough very very small and not very tasty at all. I would review my salad had it been delivered. My wife had the Monte Cristo with Yam Fries. We are both Yam Fry Lovers. They used to be good here but now they seem like the frozen type and were very chalky and dry. The Monte Cristo was very soggy and tasteless. I liked their Appetizer Combo Plate, where you get to chose 3 items for $15. The last time I was here, I got buffalo wings, yam frits, and beer battered mushrooms! Doesn't that sound good?! And especially with a glass of beer! Valley Brewing Co brew their own beer and there are 4 choices to choose from. I'm not much of a beer drinker, but I did want to try one of theirs out. The one star review is for the fact that my pizza was not fully cooked. And the Italian which said was spicy was sweet. The nachos were bomb. The mustard for a sandwhich was charged at 50. On the bill the ranch also was charged at 50. On the bill. And we were not told there would be a charge . The salsa for the na his was 50. Also . Nachos should have salsa with them.
