Walked in and was greeted with a warm smile and an efficient hostess, was seated and attended to immediately by a GREAT waitress (Brenda!) The coffee hit the spot (I'm not big on drinking it away from home but this was GOOD!) Then the food came... it was delicious! That sourdough toast was great, the omelette was full of flavor, the home fries were nice and crispy. My son had the sourdough French toast and that was also good! A solid Valley Dairy... Stopped in for dinner and dessert on a cold and bitter night in Western PA. The place was easy enough to find, parking was a-plenty, and it was warm and comfortable inside. After being promptly sat down, we were waited on by a cheerful waitress who took care of all our requests - no complaints there. Food came out hot, quick, and just as expected. For desserts we ordered different things from a sundae, to their carnival fries sundae, to their banana split - all good as well. Never have been a fan of Valley Dairy. A friend of mine worked here in High School, so I was there pretty often (years and years ago) It was terrible service, the food was iffy. Never looked "presentable" - always just tossed onto a plate and served. Fast forward to the present time, and its still basically the same stuff. Your food might come out hot, and it might come out looking like its been sitting under the heat light for an hour. Staff is friendly enough. Prices have increased - but that is expected. The ice-cream though - that probably the reason this place is still around. The pumpkin ice-cream is awesome. My mother used to buy multiple pints of it when we were kids. read more

This place has the most incredible staff! I have had a gluten intolerance for 13 years. I was craving a club sandwich and had been shopping at a local supermarket and purchased gluten free bread. I asked our server about using my bread for the sandwich. I was informed about the risks, which I understood. They made my sandwich and it was phenomenal! I was so thrilled I asked to hug the cook! He was touched. Everyone was dressed for Christmas and looked adorable. Made my day!! read more

This is more like a 3.5. I was impressed with the speed and friendliness of our service. But I thought the prices were a little high for what you got. Inside was bright and nostalgically decorated. They only had one side of the restaurant open while we were there. The menu is basic diner type fare (I couldn't believe they actually had liver and onions...). We ordered appetizers (cheese balls and mozzarella sticks). Both were pretty tasty. The mozzarella sticks were definitely the preferred option. I also ordered the chicken and rice soup which was just meh. The bowl wasn't totally full and there just wasn't a lot of flavor. Ny husband ordered one of the specialty burgers and loved it. I ordered a special (a waffle with bacon, eggs and biscuit gravy on top). It wasn't as tasty as I was expecting, but it was enjoyable. Overall, service is friendly and food is about what you'd expect from this type of place. I wouldn't go out of my way to return, but if I'm looking for a quick Meal in the area I'd stop again. read more

Stopped here on Saturday because we were traveling. This restaurant is incredible. The food & desert was out of this world. I cannot even describe how great our server Autumn was. Typical local diner-type restaurant. Friendly staff. Everyone seemed to know each other which is nice to see. Basic menu. Some breakfast items. Bunch of sandwiches. Because there were very few entrees to choose from I opted for the patty melt. My plate arrived super fast and the portion looked huge. My sister is a student at IUP and so we've come here a couple times for breakfast or dinner. No complaints, always a good meal. The pancakes are large and fluffy. The bacon is nice and crispy. You can get your eggs with cheese, green peppers, and onions. Our servers are always friendly and helpful with menu suggestions. And best of all, you can't beat good food for cheap prices. read more

My experience was good. The waitress was nice and on top of things, and the food was good. I had the hot turkey sandwich with a side of their Mac n cheese. 4/5 stars for good service and good food, just don't go expecting your socks to be knocked off. The restaurant was crowded, which wouldn't have been an issue if the service were not so poor. While waiting for a table the hostess rudely told us that the restaurant was busy, as if we couldn't see, and said that we should just leave. We told her that we would wait and she rolled her eyes and huffed away. Once seated, we thought the service would improve, but after waiting over an hour for a very simple order of breakfast food we were frustrated. Even after the food arrived, we had to wait for parts of our orders that were missing and some came out incorrectly. They took a long time to fix them and waiting to pay was a pain. First time and last time for this restaurant. I'm sure it's fine for some people but definitely not up to any reasonable standards. Floor was oily and slippery, service was TERRIBLE. The waitress had no idea what she was doing and was swamped by 3 tables! Also, was sick and wiping her nose while handling our food, downright disgusting!
