Went there on Friday and got the Eggs! While eating them they were alright... until I looked under and saw there was still raw eggs stuff in my food. The waitress never once checked on us and asked us how our food was or if we needed anything. She only checked on us when we were done to ask if we wanted our check! I should dispute it with my Credit Card Company, but that's not who I am... Besides the eggs that I had everything else food wise was good! But definitely a food safety issue and health concern! I was worried I was going to get sick and still hoping I don't! My son was with me and he didn't have any issues with his food and he enjoyed it! A friend of mine has bragged on this spot for quite a while and we finally stopped to give it a go. I had the eggs Benedict and it was very good. They used really nice, thick slices of ham on an English muffin. The eggs were poached perfectly and the cottage fries were exceptional. The potatoes were crispy, but light on the inside, and if you ask them to, they'll serve sautéed onions and peppers that were also very good. I also tried some of the biscuits and gravy and they were ok. I feel like the gravy and biscuit were missing something, but they weren't bad by any means. I liked the eggs Benedict and cottage potatoes quite a bit more. A friend got the country fried steak and it looked delicious. He said they were about as good as any country fried steak he's ever had. Another friend got pancakes and bacon and he was happy with the food and too. The bacon in particular was lean and cooked in o a nice crisp. The final friend had an omelet with feta and spinach and he said his meal was delicious too. The omelet looked fluffy, but was still cooked up nicely with a bit of brown sear. The server made sure we had our cups filled and was quick to check in with us to make sure the food was tasty. This was my second visit here and I like the place because you get huge portions for the price, and it's good food served up quick. It's hard to beat their Hungry Man's, or Farmer's breakfast. The farmers gives you four eggs, yes, FOUR eggs, sausage and bacon, or ham, as I ordered, home fries, toast, and two large pancakes! No way you're going to eat it all! I only had a few bites of the pancakes and brought them home for dinner! I saw where someone complained that the scrambled eggs aren't really scrambled, I guess they are correct, they aren't scrambled and falling apart in chunks, but the taste was the same, and they were prepared just right. They were fluffy, folded over, and they stayed warmer longer than a traditional scramble, so I don't get the complaint. The eggs were spot on. Not exactly sure how they cook them, almost like an omelette that's... well, an egg omelette! This place is locally owned and they have four locations, The Heights, Monaca, Verona, and just outside Cranberry, other than Cranberry, none of these locations are necessarily hot spots, but they seem to make it work. The place is big, the booths are huge, perfect for my dad and his wheel chair, and it's hard to wrong here. I was not impressed in the least. I had pretty high expectations as this diner came highly recommended. I ordered my standard breakfast of eggs, hash browns, sausage and coffee. I was quite disappointed to see that the "hash browns" were frozen potato patties. The sausage was frozen and right out of a bag. I could have bought this breakfast at Walmart and saved a bunch of money. The atmosphere was not your typical diner atmosphere; it was more like a favorite hangout for college students. That's not a bad thing for a restaurant; however, it would be more acceptable, in my opinion, if they dropped "diner" from the name. The food could be so much better if the cooks learned about seasoning. It's like they don't have any salt in that kitchen at all! As anyone who's ever worked in a fast food restaurant could tell you, any kind of fried potatoes need to be salted the moment they come out of the fryer, or the salt won't stick to them properly. I got the Steak Benedict, and the steak tips were woefully under-seasoned. You can't fix that with salt at the table; it needs to be properly seasoned throughout while it's being cooked. Salt is an essential mineral and has been used in food as long as humanity itself has been around. It makes food delicious. If there are weirdos out there who don't want any salt in their food, let them make a special request when they order it. But for most people, food should arrive ready to eat. Although the service was friendly enough, our waitress was slow in getting us the check at the end. This is a pet peeve of mine: waitresses seem to think that customers will "feel rushed" if they're given the check too soon. You know what makes me feel rushed? A busy restaurant with people waiting for a table. There's nothing a server can do about that. I can see for myself when a place is busy, and I would feel bad about holding on to a table too long. But withholding the check from me when I'm ready to go makes me feel trapped, which is much worse. If it's not busy, a server could always just bring the check and say "no rush, you're welcome to order more or even just hang out. I'm glad that they added a diner in town, now I can get something besides fast food for breakfast haha. My cousin and I came around noon, and it wasn't too packed. We were warmly greeted and seated right away. The diner itself was very clean and presentable. We ordered a BYO omelette, Belgian waffle with bananas, banana bread, and grits. The omelette was fluffy and yummy, the potatoes that came with it was whatever. The waffle was pretty good! The grits, pass. It was more on the drier side. The banana bread was good! We used to LOVE Freedom Square. In fact we used to eat there every other Saturday. The staff was always pleasant, the food delicious and they offered a lot of menu choices. We stopped in this Saturday and were very disappointed. Not only have they raised their prices which is understandable but they have eliminated half their lunch menu. They had the BEST Taco salads around and they've taken them off the menu. Im not sure if we will go back anymore. read more

This was our first visit to Freedom Square. Have to say we were disappointed. I ordered a bacon cheeseburger expecting a juicy, thick diner type burger. Wrong!! It was thin and looked like something you would get at McDonald's. Hubby got French Toast. It had so much butter on it, he had to scrape most of it off! This is the 3rd time I have eaten here where they didn't have what I originally came for. They have a big menu. But......... It is Friday, it is not Lent yet, but this is a predominantly Catholic area, so most of us grew up with "fish on Fridays" and Clam Chowder and again they don't have it. I am not expecting Michelin starred food, but when I travel to these little places in PA or Ohio or Michigan and can find better food and more variety in small towns. I finally decided to try this place that opened last year. The place was clean and lots of seating, but it took us awhile to get waited on, even though there were waitresses passing our table and making eye contact! I ordered the fried fish sandwich, which was very bland, But pretty good after I added a lot of salt. The fries are fresh cut, but mine were a bit soggy. One of my friends didn't like her breakfast potatoes, they looked like boiled potatoes with a paprika coating. My other friend ordered the homemade crab cakes and said that it had a lot of breading in it and not enough meat. This was my second time here I mixed it up and tried some different items. To start with the place is big, open and clean. Lots of friendly faces and attentive. Scrambled eggs weren't really scrambled this time. Not worked or stirred to achieve a scramble.. My first impression is that they may be another one of those (buy it off the foodservice truck) diners. They had Mancini's bread for toast - a big plus and a sign that they don't get everything off the truck. The downside is that the sausage is very much like the normal run of the mill "off the truck" stuff. The bacon is greasy and may have been prepared in deep fryer. Very akin to what McD's sells. Pancake was large and I thought was going to be dry but that was not the case. It was tender, moist and reminiscent of corn meal. Normal for local breakfast places lacking in flavor for meats and eggs but good with breads. They are middle of the road for food and price. You will get a big breakfast with coffee for about $7.
