My wife and I had our wedding in May of 2014 and we went to Kim for our decorations around Aug 2013. I never thought I would end up being that groomzilla...but I was. My wife and I were very specific with what we wanted...and even worse, we kept changing our mind. There was only one person who could save the day! To paint the portrait a little better, let me explain the predicament my wife and I were in. We both live in Los Angeles, but our families both live in San Jose. It only made sense for us to have the wedding in San Jose. When we had the chance to be in San Jose, it tended to be the weekends, and even then our time was limited. We would request meetings with Kim and she would meet with us on weekends (In retrospect we now realize weekends are the busiest times for her). We constantly communicated with her by email. For the record, we changed our minds about 27 times on the types of flowers, 14 times on the center piece vase, 4 times on the cake, and multiple times on whether we wanted a V, M, draped columns or double draped column for a stage backdrop. Oh, and she met up with us before her mothers day dinner. Even through all that, never once was there one moment where she wasn't fully engaged, sincere and extremely helpful. The first time I walked into our reception, I think my wife and I can both agree that we felt like we were on the reveal of Property Brothers or What not to wear... It was exactly how we had wanted it, except we could never quite envision it before. Or maybe we could envision it, but our ideas were segmented in fragments and incomplete thoughts. I guess through all the listening, sincere feedback and extra work Kim put in, she stitched all of our ideas together. I think the biggest testament to Kim's great work is to realize what the space looked like before the decoration. It's one thing to decorate a nice banquet hall. It's another to decorate a Chinese restaurant. Short of tearing up the carpet and and replacing it, Kim did just about everything she possibly could with the space!~ read more

Thank you to Kim and her team! Our wedding reception was just amazingly beautiful! All our guests were in "ahhhs and oohhhhs" with the decor. We requested for an outside/garden themed like feel. We wanted our guests to feel like they were out in a garden (since we wanted an outdoor location but we settled for a restaurant). Kim knocked it out of the park and our guests are STILL complimenting on our venue and how beautiful it was. Our photographer even stated that Kim did an amazing job with draping and uplighting the smaller space (compared to upstairs) Kim did go over time with the prior clients' appointments so we ended up waiting for her. So glad we did though. But after having different appointments with her, Kim is very detailed and covers as much as she can to help prepare for the wedding. I can understand why she goes over in time with her clients. She was super helpful to remind me what I needed to do and request from the restaurant. She's a great vendor and a great person to know. This is a late review but Kim did my wedding in December and the pictures don't even do it complete justice. I was so amazed when I walked in I never wanted to forget that feeling of seeing the decor. Kim was so easy to work with and her prices are more than reasonable with the quality you receive. Kim went above and beyond our expectations for our wedding. In the beginning stages of planning, we met with her several times in her little office. I was amazed at all the items she had inside because she made most of them herself, which already showcased her creativity. My husband and I told her some ideas of what we wanted and she made sure to implement that with the rest of her decorating. It's just a relief to work with someone who listens to you and works hard to create your dream. In fact, there was one time she called me to let me know that she came up with a wonderful idea for our centerpieces while she was in bed the night before and she wanted to meet with us to see what we thought. On the day of the wedding, she was kind enough to drop off my bridesmaids' and my flowers to our room. They were ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS!! She has a certain technique to "painting" her flowers certain colors, and ours looked so beautiful infused with royal blue. When I walked into the ceremony room, I was amazed at how simple yet elegant she made the room. Our suggested idea of lit up water vases with a submerged flower on pillars for the aisle came to life! And in the reception room, when we suggested some water vases with submerged christmas ornament balls she definitely delivered. The guests loved the centerpieces so much that none of them were left behind. I would love to describe all of her decorations, but I will post pictures instead because that speaks louder than words. Kim is a wonderful decorator and I am SO HAPPY that we found her. Her prices are very reasonable and she doesn't try to nickel and dime you. She gives you ideas if you don't really know what you want, but she doesn't try to force them on you and she always listens to what you want. She also has referrals for other wedding items, such as stationary and cake. And if you need cake cutters, wedding baskets, champagne flutes she also has them readily available for sale. I can't rave enough about Kim who decorated our September wedding at Dynasty SJ 1st floor. I had a vision of having a paper flower backdrop, I showed Kim a photo and she made it happen. This review is for wedding decoration and flower from Kim in May 2014: The process of finding and selecting Valley Event Decor: - When we were searching for wedding decoration and flower service around San Jose area, we interviewed a dozen vendors with high ratings. Kim was the only one who came through with a detailed quote for every requested item. Other vendors provided somewhat brief quote for requested services and promised us the moon. - Kim's pricing for every item on our list including chair covers, reception decoration, uplights, flowers, etc ... was the most competitive among other vendors. - Kim showed us her portfolio for decoration and flower. Her portfolio was good. She's also very creative and keeps coming up with new design, which is what we loved about her. - She listened to us and understood what we wanted very quickly to make the right recommendation. We booked Kim and felt that we could trust her. The Results: FLOWER: - Though we were a little skeptical with flower arrangement since she didn't want to do flower in the first place, all her flower arrangements and bouquets came out beautifully. - She went above and beyond to add more flowers to my bridesmaids' bouquets to make them look nicer. - The arrangement for the unity candle at church was amazing, even better in the picture she showed us. - The centerpiece design was simple but elegant. She used fresh curly willow to add height and characters for the orchid centerpiece. She listened that I wanted everything real and fresh so she didn't use dry branches. The curly willow is growing leaf and roots 2 weeks after the wedding. The guests who kept the centerpiece are still amazed that those were real branches. DECORATION: - Quality of decoration at our reception venue was superb. - Her chair covers were very good. We were going to go with chiavari chairs since her price was the lowest but our reception venue didn't allow outside chairs so we only used chair covers. - The uplight color and setup added so much to the ambiance of the room. Kim stayed until we arrived at the reception venue to make sure we were happy with everything, especially lighting - The silver lacy linen and settings on the head table were beautiful. - She also has nice soft rosette linen for sign-in table, unlike the stiff big and shiny rosette linen that other vendors use. - The photo backdrop design and lighting were perfect - For draping, Kim used very nice chiffon-like fabric. You want to be careful with vendors saying that they can do draping of the room. Many use cheap and thin fabric. Many do very bad job of piping to hang the fabric. Last but not least, her pricing for draping was the best out of a dozen vendors that we interviewed. To sum it up, our expectation for decoration and flower was very high. It's indeed the highest priority item on our list. Yet, Kim went above and beyond to make it as perfect as it can be. Out of our busy schedule, we think it's important to write this long review because Kim deserves a recognition for her work. It was very deceiving for any bride to think that they were getting a "deal" by renting chair covers for only $1.75. It was too good to be true, because when you return it and if it had just a little itty bitty snag (which needed a magnifying glass to even see it), you will have to fork up $10 for each chair cover (it's in the contract)! It's a trap. Remember, they WILL tell you that if there was a big rip or tear, you would have to practically purchase the items! The truth is, all you need is a just the regular wear and tear of a material, and your "rental" will really cost you hundreds more! If you return over 50 "snagged" covers, that would cost you $500 dollars more-and you can't get out of that! read more

Kim is fantastic! I was really happy with all her services for our wedding - flowers, chair covers and photo backdrop for the reception. I was working on a strict budget, so I gave Kim my numbers and preferences, and she did the rest - all to a very high standard. I am not picky about flowers so I asked her to do a dark purple bridal bouquet, light purple for the bridesmaids, white rose boutonnieres for the guys and white orchid centerpieces - everything was beautiful. One example of Kim's thoughtfulness and going the extra mile - she thought the white roses might have been too large for boutonnieres, so she also provided some small lavender ones as a backup. Poor customer service: Kim booked the date with someone else and ruined our wedding plans! So, our first meeting, Kim was running late who looked like she just got out of a shower. Not the best first impression. The meeting was fine and we got a quote. Her prices were pretty reasonable. We emailed back and forth modifying the quote and eventually met again to fine tune the quote. While we were still debating the quote and modifying it, she ends up telling me that she booked with another client for my date! (of course, only after I contacted her). She never once tried to contact me or tell me that someone wanted the date. I was so frustrated! She was unprofessional and I highly recommend you be diligent with contacting her. I would not recommend her being your first choice.
