As a designer myself, I had a good idea of what I wanted my wedding mandap to look like. I also knew I wanted a larger mandap, which is sometimes hard to come by. Satvir was open to feedback and had a large rustic 10x12 mandap her team had built. It had nice large wooden beams and worked perfectly with our venue. I wanted bright florals that felt full and satvir delivered. I was very happy with how the final product turned out. She also dealt with all the crazy SF rules including zip tying all the chairs together and getting the fire permit which was required by the city. This was such a stress relief for us since we didn't know how to handle all the rules and regulations. In addition, something I really value about Satvir's approach is how she reuses florals. It pains me to see how much flowers are wasted at weddings, and I wanted a more sustainable approach. The florals from our mandap were reused for our reception and satvir touched them up and made them look beautiful. None of our guests even noticed they were the same florals. I hired Bobby as my day of coordinator for my wedding / reception on March 11th based on Yelp reviews. The reasons for my 2 star rating are the following: 1) I had scheduled a walk through with my reception venue around her schedule. The night before the appointment she emailed me letting me know she could no longer. I tried to reschedule but given the time I ended up going to that walk through alone. She did her own walk through but the fact that she emailed me (instead of called me) so last minute with a venue she knew I was having issues with really bothered me. 2) The contract mentions she will bring an assistant during the day. That assistant is her daughter (wish I was told before I signed). 3) On the day of, she was constantly in a hurry in getting to the next thing. I understand there is a timeline but I was told by friends that she was very bossy in telling them to hurry up and eat breakfast even though the ceremony wasn't supposed to start for another 30 minutes. 4) Both the ceremony and reception started later than they were supposed to. Because of that, there were certain activities which were shortened and / or eliminated completely which we realized after the fact. We were especially specific on the reception time as our venue had a view and we wanted everyone to see the sunset but it still started later than it was supposed to. 5) During the ceremony, she had girls sit behind myself (the bride) and the groom for some reason. I only wanted my sister and dad behind me but by the time I had seen what was happening and said something, the ceremony was starting and there were too many people who had already sat down. Had I known she was going to do this I would have asked for close relatives and friends ahead of time to make sure to sit behind me, instead, my wedding photographs now have random people I do not know directly behind me and were shown on the projectors throughout the ceremony. 6) During the reception, right after the speeches, she was about to grab us to go eat but luckily our photographer mentioned that we had couple shots to do. We were also supposed to do group shots with each table which was in our original timeline but for some reason was eliminated in the final version. My husband and I remembered right after the speeches but Bobby had stopped the couple shoot saying it was time for us to eat dinner and then it completely slipped our minds. It was very unfortunate as we now have no group pictures with everyone that came and we spent the most time on that backdrop. 7) We had bought a cake stand and our cake vendor had matched the color / design of our cake to that stand. We had given that stand to Bobby to put our cake on but when we entered the venue, there was another stand being used (ugly and gold rather than the bronze gold making the cake layers looking completely random and the design not how we envisioned). We had asked her after the event why our stand was not used and she said it was wobbly and she had texted someone to let them know. After asking around, we realized she hadn't texted any of us so that was a very unpleasant surprise and the stand seemed stable to us - we would have preferred to make that decision. 8) She kept telling our DJ the wrong time of when our event ended (10 pm instead of 10:30 pm), as such, the father daughter dance and first dance were done early and then the DJ played the "last song" at 10 pm until my sister had to go tell him again that we had the venue till 10:30 pm. Luckily, he made an excuse saying he was trying to get my husband on the dance floor. 9) While I was eating dinner she came up to me and told me she couldn't find my dad for the father daughter dance and I started freaking out not realizing the time and how early it was. I finally found my dad, stopped him from eating dessert since I thought we were running late. Afterwards I had asked for the time and realized we started the dance floor much earlier than we were supposed to making the older crowd leaving earlier than expected. 10) She started asking for her remaining payment at 8 pm to me, then my sister, then my dad. This continued till my dad said she would give her the check once the event is over which he did. 11) Our card box was in separate room which she was sitting in but there were times my sister and I went in that room to get water that she was not there and the card box was left unattended. The next day we found there were 6 envelopes that were missing cash. 12) She spent a good amount of time chatting with our vendors in the cocktail lounge during the dance floor portion instead of making sure things were getting done. All in all, Bobby is a nice person, she helped make sure our things were in our car by the end of the event and that the vendors came on time hence the 2 stars but if I could do it all over again I would have saved myself the $2K. read more

My wife and I worked with Satvir at SB Arts as our decorator for our Hindu wedding ceremony. Leading up to the wedding, Satvir was pleasant to work with. Her pricing was clear and transparent, which we noticed was not always the case with other decorators. She under-quoted us on one wedding item in our contract, but she honored the lower pricing upon realizing this mistake, which we appreciated. That said, the mandap that her team constructed collapsed on me (the groom) in front of all of our guests as my wife was about to walk down the aisle. Our family and a few staff members from our venue rushed up to help rebuild it, during which some of the piping hit one of our cousins on the head. Several family members then had to sit in the hot sun in chairs around the mandap for the rest of the ceremony to make sure it stayed up. Our understanding is that Satvir dispatched some team members to help, but they did not show up until after our wedding ceremony was over. She apologized by email after saying that there must have been extraordinary wind, but there was not - it was a sunny day in early September in San Jose. She told us she had worked at our venue before and she was there on the morning of our wedding for setup, so we expected everything would be appropriately constructed. Needless to say, we were quite disappointed. Satvir also told us by email afterward that "if we were doing the Reception décor as well we would have stayed on site and been able to catch the problem earlier." We felt it was unfair of her to blame the collapsing mandap on us not booking her for more events. Overall, we felt that Satvir was a nice person and was pleasant to work with leading up to our wedding, but we did not have a positive experience with her team's decor on the day of the wedding. read more

We were sold the minute we saw Satvir's decors she had on her website. We immediately made an appointment and we realized that her site was just the tip of an iceberg. She has really good taste with a very very good price. I was a little disappointed I met her late. Her prices are reasonable and direct to the point. I was just planning to meet her for 15 mins. to get a feel of how much will the decors cost, but boy I stayed there for almost a couple of hours as if I am speaking with a wedding coordinator for free. And that was just the consultation! She provided us with a lot of ideas for the wedding, gave us a centerpiece sample, and most importantly, she saved us a lot of money. I met her 3 more times and I sometimes felt guilty for taking too much of her time, when all I do was cut our expenses. I was not as organized as I should have but Satvir filled up the hole and helped me out. 1 week before the wedding, it came to our attention that some decors are not permitted. I communicated this to Satvir, and she took the initiative to deal the hall manager. I already prepared myself to let go of some decors, but to my surprise, Satvir and Lal was able to deliver without compromising our hall rental contract . She set up our wedding mandap and did lighting, center pieces and couples table for the reception. It was hard to imagine how everything was going to look put together but we were really impressed on the day of. Why the 0.5 star off? She was a little hard to communicate with. There was many misunderstandings, wrong color schemes, wrong center table pieces..it def got frustrating. We didn't care too much about decoration so we didn't let it get too us too much. Planning my wedding in California, while I live in Michigan and with my mom working 24/7 was going to be a challenge, so we researched wedding planners, and came across Satvir from SB Arts. From start to finish, the wedding planning went smoothly! Of course there are stressful parts to planning any major event like a wedding, but Shalini (the wedding planner), was so amazing and helpful. It was great that they are both sisters and have worked together many times before, which made them a great pair to work with! Bobby: I still cannot imagine how we would have planned this wedding without her. And definitely cannot imagine how the actual events would have gone down had she not been there each step of the way. Unfortunately I did not have the opportunity to work with SB Arts/Satvir for my wedding because she was booked, but my experience prior was very positive. She does not have a fancy website or marketing, but her pricing is very fair and she seemed flexible in changes and add-ons. She also provided me with recommendations for what would/would not work with my venue. I did work with Bobby and would highly recommend her for any couple that is more hands off or does not have experience planning a wedding (probably most couples and families). Her work goes beyond day-of coordination because she helped me decide on all of my vendors and provided recommendations for what would and would not work. She has worked with almost all South Asian vendors in the Bay Area and will handle vendor coordination. In terms of day-of coordination, she ensured everything ran ON TIME! This is extremely rare for Indian weddings and can become expensive if not run on time. Our wedding had an extremely tight timeline (my reception immediately followed my ceremony) and Bobby ensured that I had an extra 45 minutes (in addition to one hour) to change and take 2nd look pictures. Thanks to her time management, I had about 20 minutes to relax, eat and drink water before my reception. We hired Satvir and Bobby for the complete event production, décor and of our wedding and sangeet a couple of weeks ago in Palo Alto at the Lucie Stern Community Center. We were extremely pleased with every aspect of the wedding. Here we will highlight a few reasons why we believe Satvir and Bobby are an outstanding team: Contract and rates: Prior to hiring Satvir, we priced out many vendors (i.e. furniture, flowers, food, and cake) and quickly discovered that SB Arts' rates for our full wedding package are fair and quite competitive. Satvir broke down the entire contract for us early on in the process. We were a little nervous about the contract because we weren't sure how much flexibility there would be with various items as things changed closer to the wedding date. However, this turned out to not be an issue. Satvir was creative and flexible in helping out with various changes and last-minute requests while keeping our budget in check. High quality vendors Satvir's vendors are extremely high quality. For example, our guests left raving about the food. The caterer she contracted was our first choice even prior to signing on with Satvir. It turned out that Satvir has an inside connection with them and was able to ensure a smooth process. Also, we loved our DJ - he had a great sense of humor and did a great job. Flexibility I've already spoken about Satvir's flexibility and willingness to help regarding the contract and extras. I must also mention Satvir's flexibility regarding dealing with inclement weather: there was a potential rain fiasco waiting to happen for our Sangeet night. Neither my husband nor I were able to commit to moving our Sangeet indoors till the day of the Sangeet, and Satvir was at the ready to move it inside at a moment's notice. We called her up literally 4 hours before our event to request her to move it inside. I was really floored with how grandly she decorated our Sangeet indoors last minute, and in the end I believe the event was much better than if we had had it outdoors. Hard work Satvir and Bobby were on their feet throughout our wedding events. Satvir worked extremely diligently and professionally - there were absolutely no excuses made and everything went off exactly according to plan (actually better than we could have ever imagined). Bobby was with our family the entire day, never leaving our side and making sure every single detail was paid attention to. Our guests all commented on how well organized and fun our wedding was. Only minor complaint is that we hired servers and bartenders through her (I think she outsourced them) and while the servers were fine, the bartenders did not seem to know what they were doing! Pinterest can be a wondrous thing. Not long after we got engaged, I spent hours upon hours on Pinterest, pinning photos of the most creative ideas. I was hooked on Pinterest and I had well over a dozen different boards, teeming with ideas, colors and designs. We had less than 6 months to plan our wedding and for all the events I have planned in years past for both work and for home, I had NO idea how to execute on my beloved Pinterest wedding ideas. It was overwhelming enough to think about everything else (e.g. the guest list, the venue, the dress, etc, etc), let alone how the day of event would actually go. To the rescue came Satvir. She came highly recommended by close friends of ours (she had helped design their beautiful Mountain Winery Indian wedding) and we jumped in with both feet. Can I say, what a lifesaver? I contacted Satvir in Jan for my wedding coming up in April 2010. Right from day 1, it has been a pleasure working with her. She comes across as someone very professional, at the same time personal. Awesome! Satvir was our Day Event Coordinator for a Golden Anniversary celebration in the city. She did an excellent job of coordinating the caterer, deejay, and multiple entertainers and executing a program she helped us put together. It was a great help to have Satvir for our event. We also worked with her previously for a reception for which she provided beautiful decorating and transformed a country club hall to an elegant reception hall. I can't imagine trying to throw a party with multiple vendors without having Satvir there to execute the program, and more importantly, to maintain my sanity. We hired Bobby for our wedding this past May in Monterey/Pebble Beach. She was one of the best decisions we made - Bobby sees you through the whole wedding planning process, and goes beyond the day-of-coordination duties. She has amazing vendor recommendations and you can't go wrong with her picks. We had to move our outdoor wedding indoors due to rain, and Bobby was there every step of the way. My wedding decor was stunning and vibrant- and it was all due to this lovely lady! Satvir has such classy taste and really listens to what the customer wants. Consultation: She never asked me what my budget was... which I loved. I hate when people try to gauge how much you are willing to spend on a particular item for your wedding, Hello, its a wedding and things change, You may be able to upsell me if you have something so spectacular that I just *have* to have! This is what I love about Satvir. I walked into our free consultation with only one look in mind- the ceremony cite (we had a gorgeous gazebo we transformed into a mandap). I told her what I had envisioned and she made suggestions having done weddings at the SMM. I told her everything I wanted and she took note of it all. We moved onto the reception decor, which I hadn't given much thought, and went through her books full of decor/place settings/centerpieces, etc. She has prices on her pictures and her centerpiece collections come with a beautiful overlay in the color of your choice! I told her everything I wanted and came up with a final count. I really thought I was going to spend over $10k on my fresh flowers and decor, but to my surprise, the estimate came out to be about 1/4 of that for both ceremony and reception! Holy shit! I was able to keep everything I wanted!! Delivery: Home: My mom really wanted our home decorated for my mehndi night. Satvir came a month or so before the wedding to evaluate the house and the look I wanted. I wanted a really classic looking mehndi night, so we had a beautiful backdrop, throw pillows on the floor, I mean, people who saw pictures of my house thought I was doing my mehndi somewhere else and not my own home! Talk about a transformation! Mandap- I was so anxious to see my mandap and to see how Satvir transformed my vision into reality. I basically had her string large strings of carnations (as tall as me) from the gazebo as my backdrop. My family and friends kept commenting how gorgeous the mandap was while I was getting dressed! I wanted to see it so bad, I had my mom snap a pic of it while I was getting my hair done! The picture did not do it justice. As I walked down the isle, the only thing I noticed other than my soon to be hubby was how beautiful my mandap was! My photographer even commented on how vibrant all the colors were! Satvir did a fantastic job! Reception- The hotel made a snafu and gave Satvir limited time to set up the reception area... but, Satvir being amazing as she is, hauled ass and got my recpetion cite setup in basically an hour and half. The decor looks amazing. The lighting Satvir did around the ballroom made it have such a romantic setting! I had orchids immersed in water with candles floating atop as my centerpieces, I mean, the room looked spectacular. Overall: I had so many friends and family comment that I probably spent over $10,000 on my decor alone! I, of course, nodded and smiled because this is what Satvir does! Everything looks like a million bucks - the taste and quality Satvir has is high class. She can make pretty much anything look good! I would recommend her to anyone! I have recommended her to friends and family already, two of whom have already contracted with Satvir. Guys, she is amazing! When selecting a decor vendor for a wedding, you want one who has prior experience with the venues you have chosen, is responsive in communication, has reasonable prices, and of course most importantly understands what tasteful decor is. We contacted Satvir and a couple of other decor vendors about a year before a recent wedding in my family, and selected her. We also hired Bobby, Satvir's sister, who was helpful for one of our events that needed a lot of coordination. Here's why we would hire Satvir if we had to do this all over: 1. Of the vendors that we considered, Satvir has the most experience with popular venues in the Bay Area. We had separate venues for 3 different events, and I remember her saying that she could do the decor for one of our popular venues blindfolded. 2. In general planning and executing weddings can be very stressful. It helps to have a vendor like Satvir, who knows it is important to promptly respond to your emails/texts. 3. Satvir pretty much had everything we needed for decor at all 3 venues, but she was also willing to work with us when we decided on a separate vendor for flowers. She will also suggest ways to reduce cost without sacrificing the appeal of the decor. 4. She has reasonable prices for providing china/silverware etc, especially if your venue or caterer can't provide those without charging you an arm and a leg. In addition, Satvir can also provide serving staff. 5. Now that the wedding is over, and this is the most important reason for choosing Satvir: the feedback that we received from our guests was that our wedding decor was "very elegant but not extravagant". And this feedback is from some of our guests from the Bay Area who have attended weddings with unlimited budgets! Just want to give a huge huge shoutout and very big thank you for Satvir (SB arts) and my wedding coordinator (Shalini) who basically teamed up to make my wedding day just absolutely amazing. From the very beginning, it was quite easy to meet with Satvir and she had it all at her place a one stop shop for everything you can need/want for the big day. From just meeting with her a couple of times to doing a walk through she took in every single detail that I had in mind and made it more amazing than i could have imagined. Everybody commented on how beautiful the mandap/ceremony and the reception set up was. Room was completely flipped and both just made it such a magical night. Satvir you were very easy and kind to work with and glad that you were super quick with all emails and responses to make my planning go smoothly as well. I'm not much for writing yelp reviews, but if there is ever a person that needs some kudos its Satvir. 1. Her work is amazing, literally amazing. Our wedding decor blew eveyrone away. 2. You will not find a better priced decorator. Period. We had a 500 person wedding and spent roughly $7000. Quotes that we got from other "fair priced" decorators landed us in the $15,000 range. IT wasn't even close. You want to keep it resonable yet classy, she is your lady. 3. She was very professional and everything was done on time. She isn't the most bubbly lady in the word but you deal with enough bubbly people who don't get $hit done in the wedding industry.
