I've done a lot of research to find the right place to cremate my daughter, my best friend and the love of my life. I've been a complete wreck for the last week and even considered a place in Los Angeles, but I chose Valley Pet Loss Center after speaking with Donna. In short, it was a drive and it was the most difficult thing I had to do in my life, but I'm glad I did this for her. I chose the private cremation with same-day pickup. Donna, the other gentlemen in the office, and the two techs were all wonderful. I can't thank them enough. I know it's a tough job and they must see people like me all the time, but they were all sympathetic and let us know what's happening throughout the process. I called Donna with questions 3 times and she answered patiently every time. It's been so hard even thinking about what happened, but I feel it's important to post this for others that are in the same situation. Here's how it worked. We paid for the following * $320 private cremation * $150 same day pickup * $50 clay paw print (totally worth it!) * $20 ink paw print (if you want witnessed cremation, it must be in the morning and I believe it's $300 more than the same-day. This will give you time with your baby in the cremation room and they will set your baby out nicely before the chamber is even heated.) First, I scheduled a time over phone. We opted for the same-day pickup because I couldn't stand leaving my baby there. If it's for a same-day pickup, you need to choose your urn and what you want to have put on the label. On the day, I thought I was ready, but it turned out I was a complete disaster. I recommend having someone drive you while you have your baby on your lap. Bring tons of kleenex and water bottles. The last drive together. We arrived. It's an office complex. The heat and smell of ash. Donna walked me through if I wanted Paw Prints, YES PLEASE and I paid. The bamboo urn was really cute, but once again broke my heart that the baby I wrestled with is going to become that small by the end of all of this. Donna placed the ID tag on Cashew's leg. This ID tag is unique and will be what's left with the ashes. That ID tag will be placed on the bag with the ash in the end to ensure that no mix up should occur. We got to spend time with her in the quiet room. Trust me, we went 30 mins early and we were still late. It's impossible to say good bye so have a cut off time in mind. I'm still not ready even after the cremation if that makes any sense. I can't believe I can never touch her fur again. Totally crushed and I don't think I can ever recover from this. Tech gently knocked our door and asked if we had any questions on the process. She told us how much time it will take and told us we need to start soon if we want to pick her up the same day. We asked if she take her favorite items to cremate together. We gave her favorite snacks she used to wake up to just from the smell and the bones she used to hide under her bed and the blanket she used to sleep on. I didn't want to give her the blanket. The blanket she slept on, but I thought she could use it in heaven. You can go up to the door of the cremation room. The door has a window, but you won't be able to see too much. The tech took 30 mins to make the clay paw print and the paw print. Once the cute paw print came out, I was so happy that I received an art work from Cashew. Quickly after, reality sets in. You can't see your baby enter the chamber, but you can see your baby there and the flame reflecting against the wall. This was hard to watch and I broke down, but we wanted to be there for her until the very end. The gentlemen working there handed us kleenex. The tech was very respectful and only showed us her back. Then gave us a thumbs up with a smile once all was done. During the process, you can take a 10min walk around the corner and we printed some special moments at CVS's photobooth and ate at a cafe. I didn't realize I didn't even eat much that morning. I was hungry, but still couldn't eat. 1.5 hours later, Donna called me and said "Cashew is ready!" I didn't realize until then, but Donna always referred to my baby as "Cashew" like she was still there. Not like "your cremation is done" or "your dog's ashes are ready" I really really appreciated this. It gave me joy that Cashew is still there. Thank you. I hope this review can help you through this difficult time. Our babies are the BEST and I know you're reading this because you care about your baby so much that he/she is taken care of even after death. Our pet tortoise died suddenly. We had no idea where to go so I went on Yelp. This was the only place that answered the phone and provided all the information I needed. They did private cremation, pickup in 5-7 days. They did have the option of waiting same day for an extra fee but I didn't want to do that. Very reasonable cost of $90, and a wooden container with basic engraving was included. The process was easy, very professional service. It's taken me several months to write this, but I knew I wouldn't feel right until I reviewed Valley Pet Loss Center to say, in public, what a beautiful, professional, and deeply kind job they did for us at an enormously difficult time. Sadly, over the past 20 years we've had to make use of several area pet cremation services for our beloved creatures who have passed away. All did a good job, thank goodness. But I can say with certainty that Valley Pet Loss Center was *by far* the most responsive and most professional cremation service we've ever used. I realize that most people send their companion animals' bodies off from the vet's office and a few weeks later receive the ashes in the mail, but I've always wanted/needed to be there with my beloved creatures' bodies in their last moments on earth (don't know why-- I just do), and Valley Pet Loss Center worked with me so that I could pay this last act of loving respect to our sweet, good boy. They enabled me to set a date and time for cremation, drive our boy's body down from Oakland, and be there as his body -- wrapped in his favorite warm blanket -- was placed in the cremator. The person at reception was really lovely and kind, and though I don't recall the name of the person who was working the cremator, I was more grateful for her quiet professionalism and the level of respect she granted to our poor boy's little body than she will probably ever know. TL;DR: Valley Pet Loss went above and beyond when I called them because another crematorium forgot my appointment. If you want a professional, respectful, fully witnessed cremation in a clean and organized facility for your fur baby, I would highly recommend this place. On a Friday I knew I had to put my senior pug (Oscar) down, when I scheduled his at-home euthanasia for that Monday morning our vet recommended Valley Pet Loss for his cremation. I didn't listen and instead booked with a company in Tracy, which turned out to be a huge mistake. On Monday we showed up in Tracy with my dog's body in our arms and the company told us they didn't have our appointment on the books and couldn't take us that day. I was DEVASTATED. My best friend had just died and I had no idea what to do next. I called Valley Pet Loss on the way back home and Caroline answered the phone. I was already so upset that when she said they were booked up the next few days I practically hung up on her, and then a miracle happened... 5 minutes later she called back and asked if there was anything they could help with. I explained I was looking for a witnessed cremation as soon as possible that week. She got us scheduled for that Thursday morning and walked me through everything that was included. On Thursday we were able to witness Oscar's cremation from start to finish. The facility is in a light industrial area and the facility is well taken care of, professional, and welcoming. We were able to witness Oscar being placed in the kiln (with an ID tag), waited an hour, saw his remains come out, and even got to see his remains be processed to ash. We then got to walk his ashes to his memorial box and watch as he was placed in it. I know not everyone may not want to witness so much detail, but it was important to us and I'm grateful they allowed us when so many other places don't offer that. We saw how each step of the process was done with so much care and respect. Caroline didn't have to call me back that day but it feels like a miracle that she did. I was terrified I was going to have to drop Oscar's body off at a vet and get his ashes back weeks later. But instead I got to be with him during the last stages of his journey on this earth. I don't usually put businesses on blast, but this instance was justified. Yesterday we had to say goodbye to our beloved cat of 14 years. We had the vet come to our house for the euthanasia and planned to drop her off at Valley Pet Loss Center in Livermore for cremation. I called Valley Pet Loss the day before to let them know we were coming. They confirmed and said to be there by 4:30. When we got there at 2:30, there was a closed sign on the door. I thought they might just be gone for lunch so I left two messages and we waited for 40 mins. They just never showed up so we were left scrambling to find a place to take her on such short notice. As of 10:30 this morning, they still had not called us back so I called them. The manager said they were sorry but they got a call for a pick-up and she also had a dr's appointment. I would not recommend this business to anyone. It is traumatic enough having to put down a pet, but then to be driving around town with her tiny little body frantically trying to find a place to take her was an unreal experience. There are so many ways they could have handled this better (sign on the door telling people they were gone for the day, calling us to cancel, calling us to apologize). I had to make the difficult decision to help my beautiful baby Mizuki cross the rainbow bridge. I called Valley Pet Loss Center the day of her appointment as my sister had a great experience with them in the past. Donna answered the phone and was very informative and kind. She didn't rush me into any decisions and although she knew MIzuki's appointment was for later in the day which would mean a late delivery she was very welcoming. I called back later that and spoke with Gabby and let her know we would be bringing her in and what was the latest we could bring her in if things went later than expected. We lost our dear cat a few months ago. When Animal Control notified us, they took her to Valley Pet Loss so we could proceed with planning her cremation. We ordered a custom urn, a cat paw and a private cremation. We made the arrangements on a Thursday and were told that she would be cremated on the following Tuesday. I called on Friday morning right when they opened at 9 am to add something to our account. We were then told they couldn't do it because she was already cremated. This didn't sit well with me and I had a bad feeling so I then proceeded to ask if the paw print was even done since it seems like they cremated her so quickly. I received a call back saying it hadn't. They claim that our cat was too mangled and her paws were unusable. However, I saw her with my own eyes when animal control brought her to us before going to this facility. I also received a picture of her from a neighbor when she found her. Her paws were intact and her body was not mangled.... I was then told that because of the trouble they would get something engraved for me. I thought great. Wrong. I received a text message telling me it's too much money and that is have to pick something else. I asked what they could offer. I was told they could do a pendant which the employee already knew I didn't want because it was too big for the urn she was put it. Everything that could have gone wrong, did go wrong. However, the urn we received is really beautiful and we are atleast pleased with that but frustrated by the entire process we had to go through, continually being told "that this never happens." read more

Thank you to Valley Pet Loss Center, on allowing me the opportunity to say farewell to my beloved dog, my faithful companion. When I knew it was time, I started making the arrangements. I wanted to have a witness cremation this time because when I went with other services, I wondered if it was even my dog because the amount of ash that came back was nearly 2-3 times more than he would have yielded. I always wondered with my other dog as well, I always had a sense of unease. I initially contacted another service out in Colma (SF) to arrange a witness cremation, but as things go in life, my dog's condition deteriorated quickly, so I had to change her euthanasia a few days earlier. It was a scramble trying to find an at-home euthanasia vet to come within a day or two, because they are booked solid. I finally managed to find one and then had to reschedule the cremation. Those were also booked solid, so I kept my appointment for the following week but I needed them to hold her a few days until then. The place in Colma would not allow me to drop her off a few days early ( they also didn't have sooner witness cremation appointments) to hold her until the cremation. When I asked why, she answered that "things could go wrong during that time" and it was "too much responsibility to hold her that long". What? Do they not have freezers? Do they not tag the pet? Yes, they do... but she repeated "things could go wrong and they just didn't want to be responsible". Do the bodies go missing? What was she alluding to? ( BTW: they are hard to contact, they use an answering service which does not successfully relay messages over, so I had to call them different times in hope of getting someone in the office to answer. Forget the email and contact form on their website, it doesn't seem to work) So I had to find another place (although my kind vet was willing to hold her until I could take her to the crematorium, free of charge), and found Valley Pet Loss. I was so fortunate to have connected with Donna --who was willing to accept and hold my sweet dog until our witness cremation appointment the following week. I cannot express the relief and immense gratitude I felt. Donna and Shane were so patient, so kind during the process. Donna took such wonderful care of my dog; I saw that she washed her carefully because after death some dogs soil themselves for quite some time. When I came to see Coco for the final time, she was waiting for me in the crematorium. She was lying so peacefully on the table near the open door of the facility. You can feel the cool morning breeze wafting in as you face the backdrop of the blue sky. I saw the gentle care Donna had given to Coco and it brought tears of gratitude to my eyes. I was allowed privacy and ample time to spend with her. I did a ceremony which really helped for me to say goodbye. I covered her with flowers from my yard and also a dried flower lei from Hawaii where she was born. I also brought a small biscuit, her favorite tiny ball and squeak toy, all of her favorite things. I lit an orange blossom candle so she will remember how our yard smelled in the spring, so full of the lovely scent of where she loved to be. After a few hours, I went back to take her home--Shane had allowed me to keep a small bone before processing the rest for ashes. Donna had prepared my memorial items and gave me a hug. If you are reading this, I just want to say I'm sorry for what you are experiencing. Pet loss is never easy. Our almost 10-year-old Mastiff girl Olivia passed away, I called Cheryl crying, our pick-up appointment was scheduled the same morning. This is a very delicate business, customers are experiencing deep sorrow. Cheryl's husband was extremely professional, patient and kind. We were heartbroken when our girl was gently lifted into the van, he let us have our moment with her, we held her paw for the last time. After the door was closed, he asked me: Did she have a good life? I said yes. This question provided so much comfort to me. She lived a great life and was loved by everyone who knew her. We went in later that week to pick a box for Olivia, Cheryl told us Olivia was scheduled to be cremated that day, we asked if we could light a candle and say a few words to her, Cheryl gave us a candle and some privacy in the greeting room. Our cat Emma passed away on New Year's Day and of course everything is closed since it was a holiday. Although we were expecting it, it's never easy to lose a member of the family. We have never had a pet pass away at home, so we didn't know what to do or how to handle her body until we could get her privately cremated. After a quick google search, I called Valley Pet Loss Center and Donna answered made everything ok! She walked me through everything and told me I could drop her off in the morning when they opened. When we arrived, we were greeted with the upmost sympathy. I didn't know what to expect, but the service was above and beyond what I could have even imagined. We were brought to a private room, we received a tag for Emma which would identify her remains, we were able to pick a box for her and engraving. Everything was clean and organized and they even offered us the option of going to the back to see where and how she would be cremated. I loved the transparency and professionalism of this business. Before we left, they asked if we need more time with Emma before they took her. We had a really great experience despite the circumstances of losing her. Less than a week later we received a call that she was ready and we were able to pick up her ashes and have her back home with us! Everything about this place was tremendous! Our beloved Catalina passed away on Labor Day weekend! This place opened up, and only charged $150 for the refrigeration fee, because of the holiday! The cremation plan was very affordable and came with extra stuff. They treated Catalina and us with so much love and care! Will definitely recommend for anyone who loves their pet! The owner and the lady who works there, are so nice! She actually cried with us. Forgive me for not remembering their names! Thanks again for all you've done in our trying time! read more

We had to say goodbye to our beloved dog of almost 16 years. Donna and Gabby went above and beyond to provide comfort and care every step ofvge way.. When I knew the time was drawing near, I called to get information about the services. Donna was kind, compassionate, and took all of the time I needed to answer my questions. When our dog took a turn for the worse, we made arrangements for a home vet to put him to rest and then called Donna to place the order for the box and inscription . Somehow, our dog perked up over the weekend, so we called to cancel all arrangements. Donna and Gabby were both so understanding and never made me feel as though this was an imposition. I shared that I was worried if my dog passed over a weekend when Valley Pet Loss was closed, I didn't know what to do. Donna gave some suggestions that put me at ease. We were able to enjoy our dog for another month, and then his health declined rapidly to the point where we had to allow him to be put to rest. Once again,, we called to make arrangements from scratch. Gabby answered and remembered me and our dog, which was amazing after an entire month had passed.. They accommodated the timingvwe needed, and were respectful of not wanting to interrupt during the time the vet was at our home so we could spend our last moments with our dear friend in peace. They waited until they were notified that our pet had passed. We chose a witnessed cremation. On the day of the service, once again, they kindly and compassionately worked with my schedule (I had to work part of the day) so I could be there. They allowed me as much time as I wanted to say my final goodbyes and pet my dog for the last time. They listened to my stories about him and his brother, and looked at the pictures I showed them with genuine interest. Their workmanship and choices of boxes and fonts are beautiful. We had a pawprint made in clay, and it was perfect. It's so rare nowadays for a business to treat their customers with this kind of personal care. Donna and Gabby are genuinely caring people and made this heart-wrenching experience bearable . I'm so grateful to have found this business in our time of need, and thank Donna and Gabby with all my heart. read more

Tod was extraordinarily informative and kind. Currently this is only a crematorium. However, they have land that will be used for a human and pet cemetery (separate areas) for those whose religious or personal values require this in lieu of cremation. They are being diligent with obtaining the permits and deeds so this cemetery is never used for anything else. Unfortunately (for our family) the land won't be available for burial until next year. Tod was very helpful about explaining this. Hopefully when it is ready, the cemetery will be a wonderful final resting place for beloved pets. read more

Our dog passed at home and we were unprepared. We called many places and didn't find anyone else that offered witnessed cremation, which was how we would like to say goodbye to our dog. We lost our sweet Kodiak in our home very unexpectedly. I called Valley Pet Loss Center not knowing really where to turn. Cheryl and her husband were a God send. They were so compassionate and understanding. They led me through all my options and when they came to our home to pick up our sweet dog they were so gentle covering him with a soft blanket and protecting his limbs from bumping the wall as they got him out of our house. Never did I feel rushed to make a decision. Never did I feel pressured into more expensive options. I was just supported. I honestly don't know what we would have done if Valley Pet Loss wasn't there for us. I cannot thank them enough for making such a terribly difficult time just a little easier.
