Stopped here after we saw a billboard on the 99 on our way to Groveland, Ca. Otherwise we wouldn't even know this place exists. We tried some samples and bought a bag of plain salted and roasted pistachios. They taste just ok. Nothing special or amazing but costs a lot. I was excited to stop by and get bags of fresh pistachios but was immediately disappointed as soon as I walked into the store. They carry a lot of packaged candies, nuts, jellies and more. I wish they had buckets of freshly roasted pistachios instead of all that candy and nuts that you can find at any other market. Very poor customer service. We saw the sign on the freeway, we decided to check it out. They have variety of nuts pistachios, almonds, mix nuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds. They also have a variety dried fruit. Nice country decor. We bought pistachios, mix fruit, okra, and gummy bears. Okra was delicious had never tasted it before. The pistachios were very fresh. We will definitely stop by on our next road trip. read more

Mostly sell products they don't make themselves. Staff only passably friendly, we were looking around for several minutes before we finally found the pistachio samples at the front. Heads up, there are samples for products they don't have in stock. At the pistachio samples, all four flavors, there was a staff member complaining to some person about how she was angry she "wasn't kept in the loop." I was sorry to hear about her problems (especially so loud and long when I was trying to ask for help finding a product I wanted to purchase). Perhaps if that conversation had been in the back -where it should have been- the nice young man who told me they did not have either flavor I wanted to purchase would have been available sooner. Truly a waste of time. I will stick with ordering from Heart of the Dessert, where they roast and flavor their own pistachios themselves. The flavors and service are better there anyway. read more

We seen a sign off the freeway that said tasting. We were disappointed that there were only about 15 pistachios on the front counter and sugar coated pineapple with mango flavoring which was very tasty. I ended up spending $50 on pistachios in a variety pack but as I stated we were disappointed. When you see the word tastings you envision a variety of samples and someone offering knowledge on the item. They apparently are trying to expand their store by offering items that more than likely have nothing to do with, such as chocolate or yogurt covered pretzels. They also have figs and fig jam just to name a few. It's really too bad they don't just do pistachios and do it better. I unfortunately did not feel the stop was worth it. It is a long, dusty, unremarkable drive travelling down the 99 freeway in middle California. Then, you start seeing the signs. Surrounded by fields in the middle of nowhere, aka Madera, is a cozy, little, older home remodeled into a nut and gift store. Easy to see as you are heading down the 99, it is next to a big old industrial building. On the opposite side of the freeway, big nut silos. Inside you will find lots of samples. Yay. Free tastes of roasted and flavored nuts, candies and dried fruits. Of course, you can be tempted to buy them too. You can also be surprised how pricey they are. But this is still a fun stop in an otherwise dull Central Valley countryside. You can count on a clean, funky bathroom and a grassy shady spot for your pup too. A well deserved stretching stop with purpose. For those who need something to wash down those tasty pistachios, use Yelp and your GPS to find your next stop, a lovely, nearby wine tasting room called Appellation California in another historical home with lovely grounds, or historical Ficklin Vineyards for some outstanding Port wines. Unless you see the signs on Hwy 99, it would be easy to miss this local gem. It is next to the Cru winery (I've never bee), and looks like a little country house on the side of the road surrounded by a chain link fence and a small parking lot. Inside, you'll find an excellent variety of flavored nuts, dried fruits and other tasty items--presumably originating in the central valley. I'm a huge fan of the garlic pistachios and the hickory smoked almonds. I love that this place really focuses on food treats/gifts, and isn't crazily cluttered with chotchki stuff you'd find in most stores like it. Of course they offer some items for sample. Stopped here after I saw the billboard right along the 99. It is super easy to get to, just turn right after you exit, and you should be there in about a minute. The store was filled with plain nuts, flavored nuts, chocolate covered nuts, jams, jellies, spice packets, dried fruit, pretzels, candles, lotions, soaps, etc. The place was very clean and organized. There was even a super clean bathroom. I purchased some dried strawberries. Those were pretty good. They weren't freeze dried, and weren't too too sweet, which meant that I didn't feel guilt eating a ton of them in one sitting. I also bought a huge bag of pistachios. Haven't tried them yet. If you wanted to sample before you purchased anything, there were many samples sitting around. read more

I had to track down someone to help me out in this 800 sq.ft. store and asked their opinion about what the most popular pistachio sold was.....The lady responded that she doesn't know because she doesn't like pistachios. I happened to come across this store picking up my wine from Cru. It is right next door to the winery and quite quaint. They have a pretty good selection of jellies, pistachios, taffy, baked okra and decor although, I would have liked to see more variety of pistachio. The owner does have some out for sampling. They had chili lime flavored pistachios and a flavor called Tequila. I asked if it was somehow marinated in tequila, but the owner said no, it was just lime and salt flavor. I was a little disappointed that the Tequila pistachio wasn't flavored with actual tequila, but I got a bag of that anyway since it was the flavor I liked the best. All in all, my first experience there was good and I walked out with something. It won't be a must stop, but if I am in the area, I will stop by for some pistachios. read more

Valley Pistachio Country Store is a great place for all of your candied nuts fruits and other trinkets in Madera. It's location is away from the city, but a short drive out is definitely worth it. Last night, the new owner, Lori was kind enough to let us utilize the store to host for a small event. Inside, there are dozens of different pistachios, almonds, jams, candies, you name it is here. There is something for everybody and a great place to grab a snack down the 99, or to get some gifts for the holiday season. This review is about one month overdue. Returning from a trip to Seattle back to Southern California... stoped at a couple of fruit stands and this place because I love pistachios! Walked in to a very cute store. No one greeted us but there was a woman sitting behind the counter in the office area. As my husband and I were walking around the store the woman behind the counter starts arguing with a male that we never saw. They were yelling at each other, ignored us .... we left without making a purchase. Pretty poor way to run a business. read more

I stopped there in May on my way back from Sacramento. Not one bag of pistachios of ANY flavor for sale. I have purchased from them for several years and NEVER have I had this issue. I made a $50.97 purchase from Valley Pistachio Store in December, which I cancelled an hour later, and they confirmed the cancellation by phone. I was nevertheless billed for the order and did not receive any order. After communicating this with them several times over a period of several months, they still refused to issue a credit on my credit card. Very poor customer service. read more

Very disappointed! We saw the billboard when driving on 99 and checked their website which said they open at 9 am. We arrived at 9:30 and no one was in sight! The gate was still locked and all of the lights were off despite the huge "open" sign that was on display. Don't waste your time as it might be closed when you get there even though their website says otherwise. read more

I have visited this lovely store many times in the past few years and it just gets better! The pistachios are always fresh and there are lots of samples to choose from. My favorite is the cranberry crunch, yummy! I enjoyed some of my snack out on the porch where there was a nice breeze. I was in on a Sunday and the lady was very friendly and helpful. How cool is this? A pistachio store along Highway 99? Wow, these have got to be fresh pistachios right? Wrong. We entered the quaint little country store and it's pretty much what I expected for the description. Lots of tables with lots of nuts and olives and such. There were lots of little bowls so that you can try a decent variety of seasoned almonds and pistachios. I decided to grab a big bag of pistachios even though the price was not "great", I figured they had to be really good and fresh! We also loved the Chili Lime Almonds, so we bought two bags of those. The staff person was amenable but not overly friendly - not sure if she even smiled. Down the road about 20 miles, I decided to open the bag of pistachios....and they were not crunchy or crispy or fresh at all. Very disappointed in the freshness of these nuts. The almonds were great though. Lots of bees in the parking lot, but I guess you get that when you are near farmland. read more

She Helped me pick out things to make a basket that I was able to hand pick out the items. I was able to make it so personal.
