My love of shooting pool came from my dad and uncles...I got pretty good at it...and even shot pool in a scene of a tv show Early Edition in Chicago with Kyle Chandler and got to meet guest stars Joe Campanella and Ernest Borgnine in the scene! When my son was in college the dorm community room had a pool table and he became pretty good too. So when we moved to Los Angeles and had a bonus room we knew a pool table would be a perfect addition. After checking out many pool table places we found Valley Pool Table and Alex is the owner. I had thought I found a place to get supplies for the table I am refurbishing. When I went in this place the first time, (pretty sure it's the owner working there. ) he was really nice helpful not very informative but knowledgeable. Picked out everything I needed witch was : pockets, bumper's, felt, and a few small things. Total came out to 620.00 witch I was not prepared to spend on a project table I got for free. Anyways I asked him of there were cheaper options or if he could give me a deal he said 20 off witch was Def not enough. Specially since I had checked online and found out that I could get the same stuff all for around 300. So I had asked him for my deposit back that he pressured me into leaving with him. He pulls it out of him pocket throws it on the counter and tells me to get the duck out if his store. There are more details but not important enough to write a book for. An amazing little shop. The owner is very knowledgable and has been in the industry for 30-something years. He answered many questions I had thoroughly. You pay for what you get here -- the American-made tables are the ones you want. Stay away from the cheap 1k tables you find prevalent Online, as those are Chinese-made and are not made to last, as I found out the hard way. My thirty-plus year old pool table was definitely in need of some attention. All my friends who used to love playing on it were saying "Harry, the cushions on this darned table are shot - no bounce, no fun!!" So I finally did some online shopping and came across Valley Pool Table as one of several possibilities for a remake. After talking with Alex, the owner, I decided that his place and services sounded great. Alex was very friendly and knowledgeable. He took my information and put together a quote for replacing the cushions and redoing the table felt - I wanted something newer and in a deeper green. I never went to the shop but reviewed colors online. I chose a cheaper green felt little uncertainly but thought it would be OK. The quote was reasonable and Alex said he would send the repair person out the very NEXT AFTERNOON!! I agreed and sure enough, Miguel and his son came next day to my home to do the update. As a pleasant surprise, Alex had sent two rolls of felt for me to choose from (he knew I was a bit uncertain about the color). I changed my choice as the Spruce felt was a better color and quality for just a little bit more - and I'm glad I did!! Miguel & Son had the job finished within four hours and the result was terrific. One of my pool buddies came by two days later and was pleasantly stunned at the change. I had forgotten that the pool balls were supposed to travel full table length after a simple bounce off the cushions. Wow! As a bonus the installer Miguel recognized the maker of the table, filling in some history and provenance for me. I am very pleased with the result and with the people at Valley Pool Table. read more
