It takes experience and skill to work such an event without using the crowds and chaos as an excuse to offer less, and this staff really rose to the occasion. Special kudos as well to the team working the kitchen, because food came out fast and properly made. Again, so many places would have been content to serve thrown-together plates, but everything I saw was as nicely presented as if it was a calm day with a half-full house. An order of Steak Nachos was quite generously portioned, with house-made chips, creamy queso with a good kick of spice, fresh beans and jalapeño, sour cream and melted cheddar. But the real star of the dish was the steak itself -- good quality beef, well-seasoned and carefully cooked to retain juiciness and tenderness. So often the meat on nachos will be rubbery and disappointing, but at Fuego it's really top tier steak, and there's really only one proper reaction: Yes, Chef! A lot of customers were drinking beer and shots to fit the mood of the match, but mixed drinks from the cocktail menu were also showing up festive and well-balanced. The Paloma looked especially nice: tall and cool, colorful and topped with fresh fruit. A most enjoyable, refreshing sip. With well over a dozen TV's lining the walls, great food & drinks, and a staff this friendly, Fuego really deserves its own trophy for being the little, neighborhood sports bar that comes out on top. As a runner, that was such a fun and personal touch. From the run to the party, everything was perfect. Thanks to my sister and man for celebrating me like this! Afterward, we headed to Best Ball where we ate, drank, laughed, and spent a couple of hours having a great time. The food was really good, the drinks were flowing, and the atmosphere was fun without feeling overcrowded. The whole situation was uncomfortable, embarrassing, and honestly very frustrating. We felt unwelcome from the moment we arrived, and it left a really bad impression. Yes, I'm here to say that Pickwick's Pub -- an English pub -- has some of the best (maybe THE best) chili in the San Fernando Valley. Under that blanket of cheddar, the chili itself is thick and savory, more like a stew than the much thinner "sauce-like" chili we're so used to being served around town. And in this restaurant known for making A+ burgers, the chili is clearly built from the same top-quality ground beef: lean and packed with flavor. They've also left some larger pieces of ground beef in the mix, elevating this chili from a watery hot dog topping to a truly hearty meal. Aside from its toothsome texture, Pickwick's chili packs a good deal of heat -- enough to land a noticeable punch, but not so much that the spice interferes with flavor.
