The owner was rude when I took my wig back that I had only worn for a WEEK! It became a rats nest and she accused me of using hot tools on it. I DID not use a blow dryer or a flat iron/curling iron AT ALL because she specifically told me not to. Why would I spend $300 on a synthetic wig only to ruin it by doing what she told me not to? I told her that I spend about $250-$300 on my real hair wigs and she responded with, "yea, and it looks like it." Such a nasty person. I have been struggling with thinning hair so along with my Stela we decided to find a place that sells wigs that I could just throw on and look good. If your hair doesn't look good it changes how you feel about yourself. After trying a couple wig places we ended up in Dublin at Valley Rags & Wigs. Walking in we were greeted by the owner Janie and Mirella. Wow the place was beautiful and trying to narrow down what style was the best for me was not easy. In talking with Janie, she was able to narrow it down. I think the 4th wig I tried on was absolutely the one. Everyone approved and I'm not easy to please. Stela and I had so much fun working with Janie. She and Mirella were a delight. One thing you should know, Janie is a blessing to so many battling cancer. At such a difficult time, Janie gives them a reason to look in the mirror and see how beautiful they are and maybe forgetting for just an instant all the pain and uncertainty they are going through. Also you should know, the wigs are high quality and if you are serious about finding a wig that's beautiful and will last a long time, stop here first. You can buy cheap wigs anywhere and most of the time you wind up throwing them in the trash because they don't look as good as when you first bought them. In all honesty, I paid a little more because I wanted quality, I wanted something well made and I wanted something to make me feel beautiful. That's what Janie did for me. I have to get on here and do a review. I am a stage 4 cancer patient for 7 years,I will always be bald. When I was 1st diagnosed,before losing my hair I went to a wig shop(it will remain unnamed) it was the worst experience. I left crying. So I haven't gone to another wig shop.just wearing hats & scarves. Lately I've been wanting to have hair. I read reviews and researched a bunch of places for about a year. Valley Rags & Wigs had great reviews,so Saturday October 18/25 i went in. They are the most patient and understanding women. I wasn't 100% sure what I was looking for & of course wanted my husband to like it too. The ladies looked at a photo of me before cancer. I probably tried 25 wigs. They found a wig that looked almost 100% of what I naturally had before. I went a little shorter than what I had but the cut & color are perfect. It's comfortable and not itchy and a perfect fit! I recently purchased a wig from this store, and unfortunately, my experience was disappointing. I initially tried on a displayed wig that looked natural, but I wanted it in a darker color. The staff assured me they could order it, so I placed my order and paid upfront. The store owner said that I can exchange if I am not happy with the order, so I kept that in mind. When the wig arrived a week later, I thought it looked fine at first. I needed the bang trimmed to look like the wig on display. They trimmed the bangs and removed the tag, but after trying it on again at home, I noticed it looked very different from the one I originally tried--much less natural. The next morning, I returned to the store and asked if I could exchange it for the displayed wig, but I was told that exchanges were not allowed once the wig had been altered. This policy was never mentioned when I placed my order, nor was I informed before they trimmed the bangs. If I had known, I would have checked the wig more thoroughly before any changes were made. Beyond the frustrating policy issue, what makes this experience worse is how this store handles customers who rely on wigs due to medical conditions like cancer and alopecia. Businesses in this industry should operate with compassion and understanding, especially when customers are making important, personal purchases. Fair and reasonable requests should be met with genuine care, not rigid policies that leave customers feeling disregarded. To be honest, I regret supporting this store because, in the end, they don't care about their customers' satisfaction at all. Previously, they had seemed welcoming, which is why I returned after four years, but after this experience, I can't recommend them. At $500, this is an expensive lesson in making sure policies are clearly communicated before committing to a purchase. If you're considering buying a wig here, I strongly suggest confirming all store policies beforehand to avoid unexpected issues. Better off, just don't go there. I don't recommend this store to anymore. They have lost my business forever. I've decided to donate both wigs because I no longer want any connection to this business. If they couldn't offer compassion and honesty to a paying customer, I hope someone else can at least benefit from what was, for me, a disappointing purchase. We had just visited another wig shop in Walnut Creek (V.I.P) and the lady there was a bit rude, charged us for the netting and wasn't very empathetic. What a great shop with a wide selection and wonderful customer service. My mom has severe hair loss at her age and went to a store in Walnut Creek and had no luck. I am surprised by the 3.5 stars but we were in the area so stopped in. The employee listened to my mother's needs and brought a couple wigs to try. We laughed and had fun until she found the right one. It was a bit pricey but seemed like decent quality and you're paying for the service as well. We also received special shampoo and instructions. I would not recommend this shop. My first experience with them and also last. I ordered a wig 3 weeks ago, though was somewhat unsure but said Yes because the staff and owner were so convincing, I was also thinking I could return if it does not look good on me when physically trying on in person, as the shop didn't have a dark brown color which I need but only a blond one. I still have not received it. It is on backorder and just today the shop owner told me when I inquired about it. I asked for cancellation, and she refused, citing their no refund/no return which I was not told about when making my purchase. She said there was a big sign on the counter but who can be expected to read all the different signs displayed inside a shop? I even offered to pay for restocking fees in order to cancel my order, whenever it comes in future who really knows, and she flatly told me No. Then she hung up on me. But for as many years as they have been in business, the wash and style they did for me didn't look anything like how it looked when I brought it in. Zero hairstyling talent. Went with my dear friend today...she is emerging from a year-long battle and wanted to look like her old self again...so honored she took me as her consultant. Staff could not have been friendlier, or more helpful. They had several contenders to try on in several basic types. Great selection!! We narrowed it down in time....and came up with something that was beautifully natural looking...that she would have been happy to walk out of a hair salon with. It was a synthetic with a natural looking part. Care is going to be so easy...and the price was really quite reasonable. The staff even cut a bang...which made it perfect for her. DO NOT SHOP HERE! Such a rip off. Wigs are not well made and are supposedly "one size fits all." I went back in to get help because the wig was sliding around horribly all over my head - I was told to use glue, a bobby pin and a pony tail. I did all three and it still crawls up the back of my head. I have three wigs I bought online that are all better quality and never slip! I REALLY saved up to buy something I thought would be better made and last longer and I really got ripped off. The woman helping me said " when did you buy this?" I could tell her next statement was going to be something about it getting old - I had bought it two weeks earlier! When I called to complain the woman who answered said " well I'm sorry you chose that wig to buy then" HORRIBLE HORRIBLE customer service - go to Wig Works in Walnut Creek!!!!!!!!!! awful people doing incredibly skeevy business. i bought three wigs coming in as a cancer patient to fix my bald situation and found out later through a friend i was severely overcharged for them. the wigs they sell are probably worth no more than 60 dollars - they're selling for 200-400. when i asked if i could return the owner was incredibly hostile to me, yelling at me and then ignoring me out of the blue. i was supposed to pick up a wig i bought that was a higher quality and she threw a cheaper one that was supposed to me 200 dollars less. i imagine she won't let me return that one either. terrible people taking advantage of cancer patients and incredibly racist. she kept saying curly haired wigs don't "look good" which is why she doesn't carry that type. it's pretty clear she just didn't like brunette or ethnic hair and she makes a point to keep saying that even though she has ethnic people working for her. very sad and i believe karma won't be kind to any of them. not to mention the wig she threw at me finally had a bunch of tiny hairs poking at the top. pretty poor quality if you ask me. read more

We had a horrible experience here. I have a child that lost her hair due to a medical treatment. We wanted a natural looking wig for her to wear to school. After trying on a few wigs, we found one that she liked. They ordered the wig in the color my daughter liked. We waited a week for the new one to come in, but was completely disappointed in what they presented us. There were huge blocks of stripes in the hair. The two colors weren't blended at all. It was a stripe of one color and then a stripe of the next. One of the ladies that helped us even commented on the bad quality of the wig and said she also saw the problem that we saw. We never left the shop with the wig, but they charged us over $120 for the restocking fee. Seriously? It was not our fault that the wig looked completely different than what we ordered. And the older lady that worked there made a particularly rude comment to my daughter. We were looking at natural hair wigs for my daughter instead of synthetic. The lady made a comment about "spoiled girls" that wanted natural/real hair wigs instead of synthetic if they have hair that is growing back. My daughter looked at me with a very hurt and confused look on her face. Ugh! If a person wants real hair on a wig, that is their choice. My daughter wants a wig that she could curl, so we want a wig to have styling options. She is in middle school and wants choices. I shouldn't have to justify that to anyone. Let me also add that we made the 5+ hour drive to this store twice. The first time to try on wigs and the second time to pick up the wig. After the bad treatment that we received the second time we were there, I would absolutely not recommend this place at all. read more

I had high hopes for this store and was impressed with the selection. However I was not impressed that they cut the tags off of their wigs and label them as their own because you have no idea what you are buying. They also charge you $5 for a cheap wig cap that you have to wear to try anything on (which they don't disclose ahead of time) and they only take cash, which is a huge red flag. Who carries around $300 cash?? I started to take a photo of me with a wig on to send my husband so he could help me decide and was told "no photos are allowed". I have a real issue with this store. The wig industry is really funny...it makes wigs for ethnic women and european women. The way the fibers of these wigs wear come down to cost. In other words, ethnic wigs tend to be cheaper because they are worn and thrown out more frequently. European women tend to buy more expensive wigs with finer fiber that lasts longer but don't come in darker colors or ethnic textures. Now here is my problem with Valley Rags and Wigs. They put their own tags on the wigs so you could see a really cute wig and have NO idea who made it, what kind of fiber it is or how much it cost. It really does make a difference. It could be a "Noriko" wig or it could be a "Forever Young" wig. There is a HUGE difference in the quality and the way those wigs will wear. It's just unethical if you ask me. I have worn wigs for 15 years now. I know you can spend hundreds of dollars on a wig and bring it home, not like it and tough titty...you're stuck with it. It's not a good feeling. read more

We bought a human hair wig back in mid of March 2014. I would say the ladies there were very helpful and attentive to our needs and answer questions we had. They are either family or close friends working there, pleasant, patient and beautiful people. We read some previous good/bad reviews and saw of photos inside the shops and had some concerns because we were looking for a wig shop that has private boost / stall to try out the wig. When we got there, we were pleasantly greeted at the door without judgment. I was already feeling comfortable inside browsing around the wigs. Yes, there was no privacy area/room as in the photo. For some reasons, it felt OK there without being judge since the people/customers in the shops were older folks who were also there for the same purpose that is getting a wig to make themselves look beautiful. I can see how some people get offended by this shops since it's all open without private area. If I was working in that area/neighborhood where we fear that our coworkers or friends in the same neighbor might spot us without hair inside the shop, then I would probably choose to go elsewhere. We were not living in that neighborhood so it's OK for us. One thing about the shop is it has a big gigantic desk in the center and back of shop for office tasks. This is a big desk and does take a lot of space. I would say someone/customer can easily make a bad judgement on this part such as saying the owner is selfish for having all the room for herself while neglecting customer's privacy (not having a private area for trying wigs). I think just having 1 or 2 portable partitions (those that can fold in/out) would be sufficient to block off area for privacy. Something the owner to consider. read more

My significant other has cancer again and is losing her hair - again. This happened 8 years ago and we purchased an excellent wig from Valley Rags & Wigs. We went in today and were very happily greeted by the owners sister. This appears to be a family business, which I try to support whenever possible. Both times the staff were very kind and patient. We tried on about a dozen different wigs. Each time, the staff person would explain the care requirements, review styling options, and take time to style each wig on her head so that my better half could find the perfect look. We ended up ordering a specific style and color combination that fits perfect and looks great. They never rushed us and probably took about 90 minutes with us to review the differnt options and try several different style and color compbinations. We never felt rushed or had any pressure put on us even though there were other people coming in the store. We were able to find two different looks, one more casual and the other a formal look that were completely natural looking and brightened her entire outlook on the prospect of not having hair again. We have been to other places that were nothing compared to Valley Rags & Wigs. After our visit today and the 2 wonderful wigs that we purchased, her whole attitude changed and I'm extremely grateful to this company for making her improving her mood. These wigs almost look better than her real hair which makes a huge difference. Their prices were reasonable and they even offer cleaning service for a small fee. I'm sorry to be so slow in posting this review. My wife had MDS/AML, and lost most of her hair due to chemo, and in prep for a bone marrow transplant. She was fine just wearing a bandanna, but knew that it made her uncomfortable going out. Suggested many times getting a wig, which she really didn't want to do. She had lots of reasons. She would look silly. They are too expensive. Too hard to take care off. I think she was just scared of the whole experience. We got invited to the regular company Christmas party. While it isn't really fancy, she didn't want to wear a bandanna or scarf. Her sever weight loss was going to be shocking enough for the people that she only saw once or twice a year. She decided that it was time. Our experience could not have been better. The ladies at the store were so kind and helpful. From finding the right style and color, to how to care for it, it was a fantastic experience. They didn't immediately try to sell her on some super expensive, hard to care for, option either. Seemed to me that most items in the store are very reasonable and affordable. The best part was the other customers. There were two when we were in the store. I will never know their names, but they were so supportive and kind. Telling her how the color matched her eyes and how beautiful she looked, that they wouldn't even have known it was a wig. Basically telling a perfect stranger exactly what she needed to hear at that difficult time. Who knows they might have been angles, probably not, but they meant the world to us at that moment. Our dear friend has recently been diagnosed with Lung Cancer. To be proactive she decided to get a wig prior to starting chemo treatments. One of our girlfriends found out which date & organized a Girl's day out. She than contacted Valley Rags & Wigs to see if it would be okay with them, if we brought food & drinks which was no problem. We showed up in a force of 10 & took over the store. What could have been a very emotional day wound up being an enjoyable experience. Largely due to the professionals working at VRW. With so many wigs to choose from, everyone picked out a wig for our friend to try on, the ladies at VRW never once gave us grief about all the wigs we wanted to see her try. But the winning wig was the very FIRST wig selected by Leslie at VRW. They asked all the right questions early on to determine which wig would fit her lifestyle & needs. A great part of getting through these tough times is mind over matter. For us women, we associate how we feel by how we look... she'll be able to enjoy what she sees in the reflection of a mirror with her beautiful wig. More than likely, our girlfriend will need more than one wig, so when she's ready to shop for the other, we know she'll be a returning client of VRW. Before I even stepped into the shop, the owner came out and yelled at a black man in the parking lot for absolutely no reason other than she's just plain racist. She just yelled at him to leave the area. The guy looked really shocked. He was just a regular dude minding his own business. I heard her say something about him looking for stores to loot. I am a user of hair extensions and was looking for a new set since my old ones were beginning to look worn out scruffy, so I decided to give this place a try. I'll admit it, I was impressed. One of the staff members took one look at me and correctly guessed the type, colour, and length of my extensions! It saved me a lot of the hassle I had previously experienced buying hair extensions. The staff was very friendly and brought out the extensions for me to compare next to my natural hair. They also showed me the sample extensions they had and answered all of my questions. (How many pieces were included, type of hair, blah blah...) They even offered to order the 22" extensions since they did not have them in stock for my hair colour (but I ended up buying the 18" anyway which was the length I had previously.) The extensions were a bit pricer than the ones I had purchased before (also human hair.) The 18" cost $200 and I was told the 22" cost $250 (so you have an idea.) The hair feels very soft and looks shiny though! Overall I am satisfied with my purchase and will probably return when I'm due for a new set! read more

This place is unbelievably awesome. I left this store feeling the best I have in many years. The women who work at this store were beyond helpful, patient, and very experienced. I had no idea that the owner and her sister wore wigs until they told me because they look so natural! Some people complained about prices and frankly, you get what you pay for. These are high quality wigs. Bless your heart for thinking you can get a high quality wig for fifty dollars.
