A/C went out on 7/31/22. All HVAC companies I contacted did not have availability EXCEPT KAPS. Scheduled service on 8/2/22 and technician arrived ON TIME. Diagnosis w/i 15 minutes was a bad capacitor located in the heating unit. Replacement and cold air running w/i 20 minutes. Connor Hunt was professional and informative. Would highly recommend. I would give them 6 stars if I could! 2 technicians came out on a rainy Saturday morning to clean our air ducts, and they were kind, funny, professional, and extremely knowledgable. Our furnace wouldn't start when they got here, and they quickly diagnosed and solved the problem (a switch was 'off' that needed to be 'on') at no additional cost - so not only did we get our ducts cleaned, but our furnace fixed! They worked quickly and efficiently, and our ducts were DISGUSTING - you could see huge clumps of dust coming into the vacuum. My furnace went out and I was able to get a same day appointment without an insane emergency rate for a weekday appt. They were here within a few hours. Jon was my technician. These guys have been very professional and showed up on time... that being said they didnt' fix anything and have charged me an arm and a leg. I called them out because my heat pump has not been working well. Its very sporadic and selectively works. They came out and charged me $500 to change the motor on the unit and told me that "there was friction on the motor that is" tripping the breaker"...fair enough, I am not an HVAC guy so I took their word for it. 3 weeks later the same exact issue arose, clearly the motor replacement fix didn't fix anything. When I called them out again they charged me another $130 diagnostic fee because by the time they got out there the unit had started working again. I told them its very temperamental and the fix didn't fix. Long story short, when it was 100+ degrees outside the unit stopped working, again, and the tech came out the next day. He replaced a fuse and said that should solve the problem long term - no charge - which I appreciate. It did not solve the problem. Heat pump stopped working a week later. The issue I really have is that I have paid these guys $600+ dollars for a fix that didn't fix anything. They are nice enough but want to charge me more money for another diagnostic on visit #4. If you are going to charge me $^00 you had better be sure that is the source of the issue. I am calling a different company in the hopes they can ID the issue. read more

I called a few places because my gas furnace was making a terrible noise. Some folks were rude and some booked out weeks, but Kaps was able to get to me in less than two days. Kaps was also the least expensive for a diagnostic. When the tech got here, early after checking with me to see if that was OK, Jon did a thorough service on my system and really went through every part to make sure I understood how it all worked. KAP's is really responsive. Beginning with the receptionist/scheduler through job completion: it was a pleasant experience. Tested AC in April but needed to wait for full vaccination. Choosing service providers in a new city (Portland, in our case) can be dicey. We chose Kap's to do our autumn furnace tune-up/maintenance from its high Yelp rating, and are sure glad we did. The office person making our appointment was courteous, the appointment was scheduled just a few days in the future, we received text updates, and the technician, Jon, arrived right on time. Jon was friendly, also courteous, obviously service-oriented and, best of all, evidently knows his stuff. We'd been getting a "System Error Fault" alert on our thermostat, and usually that kind of thing can be diagnosed on Google or YouTube, but not this time. BEST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER!! During the recent horrible heat wave my AC stopped functioning altogether. Kap's HVAC technicians Gary & Ken came to my rescue late last Saturday night & worked on it until almost midnight. They had already put in close to an 18 hour workday. They were efficient, personable & happy to explain to me every step of the process. On Monday my house was still at 85 degrees so I called again and they came right back. This time they hosed down the exterior of the unit & added refrigerant but explained that the best I could hope for was still going to be warm because the outside temp was 115 degrees! My older unit was not able to handle that kind of heat. Thankfully today my house is 72 degrees & I am so happy! I highly recommend this company for its exemplary customer service. Gary and John showed up on time and cheerful. They got right to work to tackle the unfortunate task of removing a dead rat from my blower fan. They disconnected the fan, removed the rodent, cleaned the housing and fan, then reinstalled. I had heat in less than an hour. The price was also the best quote I found. Highly recommend. read more

Our air conditioner was leaking from the bottom of the unit. The company had a quick response time, both on the Yelp texting and phone calls, and gave me an appointment within a couple of days. (This was unusual, since I'm told it can take several weeks.). Anyway, they came out a couple of times, the first being a diagnostic and initial attempt to fix the problem, which seemed like it worked. Basically, the drain pan was clogged and needed to be cleaned out because of falling rust particles over the past 15 years. The blockage caused the condensation buildup and it overflowed and leaked onto the garage floor whenever the A/c unit was on. But the initial cleaning out needed more extensive work than anticipated since the leaking continued. So they graciously returned a couple of days later to finish the job, without charging me extra. That was really cool and deeply appreciated. The two main guys who did the work, Ken and Jesse, were both very professional, knowledgeable, and helpful. In short, they did a great job and took care of the problem start to finish without complaining or hesitation. Bottom line, I would definitely recommend this company to others. read more
