I live in one of eight homes in a micro gated condo HOA sharing a common vehicle entry gate. The gate has a sensor light unit allowing the opening/closure of the gate for entering/exiting vehicles. Part of the unit, at ground level, became detached and causing the gate to remain wide open, exposing/threatening the security and privacy to outsiders. No speciality tech services w/higher tech labor costs needed. So I began a Yelp search for "handyman contractor services." I contacted 9 different companies, mostly high star-rated on Yelp. I even specified details of the issue and included pics. I was getting frustrated because 2 said they do not provide the service, 3 were booked for 1-1/2 weeks, 1 did not bother to get back to me, 2 requested pics and never got back to me. Either too simple a job not worth their time. Or not wanting to deal with a gate issue that might take more time then anticipated. I never experienced this on Yelp before. I truly felt snubbed by the high-rated companies. And have noted which companies not to reach out to, for other services, next time. Only Denis from Valentina Contractor Services kindly responded. He went out of his way to squeeze me in the next day. Denis came by, as scheduled, to closely assess the issue and came up with his method to repair the broken unit. He went to a nearby Lowe's for specialty materials and anchored and insured the stabiity of the broken unit. It was a visually professional job and Denis cleaned up afterward. The gate fully functions normally now. Only took about 1-1/2 hrs total. Denis ia a great personal handyman for household or small HOA/TIC jobs. Even larger jobs, as evident in the pics of his Yelp account. And his labor rates reasonable. Denis is friendly and can better accommodate customers, even more so with regulars. I will look to Denis in the future. Even compile list of small to medium jobs, scheduling to last a day ot longer. They have a really great communication system. We had a kink because someone wrote my number down wrong so I did not initially get the texts confirming and communicating but after a call to the office, that was corrected. They text when on their way, show up on time and work hard. We had him during Covid and he wore a mask. He didn't have the plaster fall into a floor covering or tarp as he scraped . I didn't like that ad we just put new carpet in the rental he was repairing. He did vacuum it all up I just never understand why one handymen and painters don't employ the "technology" of a tarp. They have poor workmanship, will charge you extra money than initially quoted and very argumentative if you point out their shoddy work. The service was fast. We needed two shelves rehung and we asked for them to be lined up with each other. Unfortunately the shelves are not line up with each other. Also, paint is damaged and we will have to repaint an area. And one shelf is not flush with the wall. He said it was because of the hardware but the other shelf is flush.
