Such a cute coffee shop! Their matcha is really good and everyone is really friendly. This is a great place to come and work or hangout for breakfast before work. Love the plants and the space!

Raspberry Matcha croissant and strawberry Matcha latte
    Colleen A.

My sisters and I went to Vals bakery for breakfast on a recent birthday trip. We heard great things about the bakery, and I had it on my bucket list for quite a while. I was even more drawn in by the fact that they specialize in Matcha drinks. I think we ordered about 1/3 of the desserts in the display case. One of my sisters is gluten-free, so she got a gluten-free cinnamon roll from a bakery they they partner with to supply their gluten-free desserts. I forgot to take a photo of the name cards, so I don't remember exactly what everything was called. We tried the raspberry Matcha croissant, the cozy croissant, a honey croissant cookie (basically a cookie made of croissant dough), a cinnamon roll, focaccia, a strawberry mascarpone croissant, a Caprese danish type pastry, a garlic cream cheese danish type pastry, a banana bread iced chai latte, and a strawberry Matcha latte. The pastries were all 10/5 stars-- truly. The Caprese one was topped with the best pesto Ive ever had. The garlic cream cheese one could be eaten for breakfast every day. The loxxy croissant was stuffed with smoked salmon and cream cheese and was so tasty that my sister who doesn't eat seafood, liked it and said she could eat a whole one herself. Everything bagel seasoning created a crunch on top that was just perfect. The strawberry mascarpone was a personal favorite for me. It just was so perfectly executed and the flavors we're all on point. It had strawberry cheesecake vibes, but the filling was lighter since it was mascarpone. The raspberry Matcha croissant was actually one of my least favorite items, though I did still really like it. It seemed like it was filled with both blackberries and raspberries, but I didn't mind. It was just significantly sweeter than the other desserts and maybe a bit much for me. However, I finished it the next day and really enjoyed every last piece of sugar. I'm thinking maybe in contrast to the other items, I just wasn't liking this one as much, but when it was standing on its own, it was great! The cinnamon roll was everything a cinnamon roll should be! It was even better because they warmed it up for us. The honey croissant cookie was simple and satisfying. I would eat those anytime. Sometimes it's nice to just enjoy a more simple dessert. The focaccia was some of the best any of us had ever had. I tried my sister's chai and thought it was really good, albeit too sweet for me to have ordered myself . Sadly my Matcha was too sweet as well, so I'm not sure I would order another. I was disappointed about that part since it's something the bakery is known for. The outside and inside of the bakery are both really cute! Everything is decorated nicely. They sell a little bit of boutique style clothing and some branded goods near the front. The staff taking our order were honestly not the friendliest, but I will chock that up to us being annoying, taking too long to decide which 10 items we wanted. We let everyone who came in after us go before us, but I'm sure we were still annoying. The staff who took over later in our visit when we went back up to order even more drinks and pastries were very friendly! Overall, a fantastic visit. I am sad to not live closer, but actually that's probably a good thing for my wallet and pant size. If you are in Dayton and considering a visit to Val's bakery, do it. Truly, no way you will regret it!

Highly recommend! We're so happy we found this place We tried the mango matcha, tiramisu coffee, and a few baked goods.

Who does love Val's? This place is a Dayton staple! Come early for delicious pastries because they do sell out quick. BUT their coffee is still as good as the food so still come and grab a drink. When it's not busy (during the week) there's tables and sofa to relax real cozy! Love all the staff there they are all so nice! They also can help what to pick for drinks when you don't know and they do a great job on picking a great option. Parking isn't the best but small and cozy like the town.

The best bakery in Dayton! So good so fluffy! The coffee drinks were delicious. I tried one of the croissant with pesto on it and it was elegir the best pesto I have had in my life. I will dream about it for years to come. This place offered a food experience overall and everything we tried was soooo goood! Definitely try this place next time you in Dayton. It is worth all the hype!

Very cute bakery spot in downtown Dayton! When you walk in, there's souvenirs and art for sale along the walls. You can walk up to the counter and order the fresh pastries you'd like to eat and a drink! I liked seeing the season al drink options, so I ordered a special matcha. The servers were kind and quick with the order. There's also a very cute and casual seating area beyond the counter where you can enjoy! I especially liked the monkey bread and savory roll.

Cute cafe to stop by, their baked goods are definitely the highlight since they have both sweet and savory options which is nice. Great for a coffee date or a study space. Can be very busy but also can be quiet. Staff is super friendly and patient with you if you have any questions. Drinks are really delicious from the coffee and to the matcha.

Cute little coffee shop in middle of Dayton. Great atmosphere. I got the tea and a strawberry delight item. My friend got the cheese cherry confection. They don't have a huge variety, but suspected for the size. There's still plenty to choose from. It is clean and service is efficient.

The lemon blueberry cruffin was good. Unfortunately, I didn't feel much warmth or friendliness from the ladies assisting me.

The lemon blueberry cruffin was good, though a bit pricey. Unfortunately, the service felt unfriendly.

I've been a looooong time fan of Val's since they used to be located inside of Dished! And when they were on Brown Street! This location is incredible. It's so cozy with couches and fireplaces, and the beautiful murals. I love to meet friends there. I always check Instagram before going, because they do a great job of communicating there ever since going viral! Everything is truly the highest quality and takes days to make so when they sell out for the day, that's it! I alway try to go early for that reason. They have some staple items year round but I love their seasonal menus. Always something new to try!

Very cute and aesthetically pleasing bakery. Expect SUPER long lines -- people are generally lined up outside 30 min before opening time and it gets worse throughout the morning. I really enjoyed their caprese pastry & everyone in our family loves the strawberry pastry. They have 3 set gluten free options, of which the cinnamon roll & coffee cake muffin were really good according to my Celiac family member. Their tiramisu latte was also great. Overall unique spot for Dayton that is reminiscent of nice city bakeries.

All the locals recommended we visit Val's alert for some sweets. They are closed on Monday and Tuesday but we made our way down later in the week. They have a variety of cookies, pastries, muffins, scones, etc. they also have a variety of flavors including some unique flavors. The bakery does seem like a popular place as there was a steady line. There are also several areas to sit and eat inside. The line moves quickly and the staff was friendly and helpful. We tried a key lime pastry, a brownie and a shortbread cookie. The cookie was delicious with traditional shortbread flavor and the key lime pastry had great flavor as well. We enjoyed the brownie which was pretty traditional. Overall, we enjoyed the atmosphere and the baked goods.

Absolutely charming bakery with the friendliest staff! I popped in on a whim and was blown away. The vegan pain au chocolat was divine - flaky, buttery (without the butter), and totally addictive. I also tried the black sesame white chocolate mocha, which was such a unique and delicious twist--nutty, creamy, and perfectly balanced. Can't wait to come back and try more!

The croissant was impressive-it tasted like I was back in Paris. It just felt like I was in my hotel lobby having breakfast with all the paper products. I don't really care for sweets (I even recycle Halloween candy from year to year!), but I dream of Ele's white cake with butter cream frosting. Last week I threw a party - I ordered the cake online on Wednesday for a Saturday pickup. The website is really easy to navigate and allows you to customize your cake. As this was a landmark birthday party, we wanted all black and gray frosting - weird, I know, but it came out perfectly (and was actually very pretty). I arrived on Saturday an hour before I had stated in my order, the cake was ready, and since you can pay online too, I was in and out in 90 seconds. Now, at the end of a grown-up birthday party, you're usually putting the extra cake back in the box and counting the days until the frosting is hard enough to throw the leftovers away and you don't have to feel like you're wasting food. Or is that just me? Regardless, at the end of this party, there wasn't a crumb left (anticipating this, I had already put a generous sized slice in tupperware during the Passing of the Cake Plates cake-cutting ritual - heheheh). I once drove through a massive snowstorm to get one of their cakes (for a party being thrown for me, in fact), because, although the roads were treacherous, they were open for business, my friends are apparently timid drivers, and the cake really is THAT good.
