I own several buildings that I rent to residential and small business white-collar businesses like new attorneys, accountants and the like. My tenants are required to maintain their space but the common areas would always required a monthly cleaning. I tried several cleaning services in downtown chicago and finally was recommended Val's. I met with her, we discussed and reviewed all the areas, gave her a tour of them and I put her on a temporary 3 month agreement to see how she and her team of professionals would do. Of course, I'm writing this because the service was excellent and each time I spot-checked the building common areas they were clean to standard. I bumped up our services agreement to hit each building 1 time per week instead of monthly and my tenants are very pleased. The cleaning basically consists of vacuuming, dusting, window cleaning, mopping, windexing of artwork in the vestibule and hallways. Val's cleaning team has always hit the areas we discussed (like they have a checklist or something) and so I'm compelled to give good services good reviews. As you can see on my profile, if a business is good, I say it- it they are consistently bad, I say that too. Val's Cleaning services has outperformed her competitors that I tried for downtown Chicago. Hopefully she'll be expanding to the north suburbs so I can get her team to come out to my residence. Apparently there is a "south side" fee because of safety issues. I live across from the Museum of Science and industry in a high rise and have never experienced any issues, but the lady I spoke with today said they have to charge extra because of my location. I'm uninterested with working with a company who has this kind of obscure policy. Just thought others should be aware that if you live in Hyde Park or whatever they consider "south side" you will be quoted extra for their services. read more

I would have given 5 stars but found myself after Val's "deep clean" dusting shelves that weren't fully dusted (like, they dusted around books but not under or on them, didn't dust slats on shades or vents). When you have to dust after a deep clean, something's not fully done. That said- they were very easy to work with, nice, friendly and reasonably priced. read more

First time ever hiring a cleaning service and I was just blown away by how great Ster was. Booking was fast and easy. I called on Monday anticipating it being a week or two before they were able to get to me, but they were able to clean my house that Wednesday. Ster cleaned every nook and cranny of my 3 bed 2 bath condo. The windows, door frames, behind couches and dressers. All of this without even being told. My home has never been cleaner. I need to give one star to the customer service. They were professional and very nice. They listened to me. Overall though, I would DEFINITELY NOT recommend this service. I paid for a super deep clean and multiple things weren't even touched. Things that were supposed to be cleaned but weren't: cabinets, refrigerator, shower walls, mirror/door in bedroom. The floor were "cleaned" with dust marks all over she just seemed to push around all over. A cologne bottle was broken and glass was left on the floor for me to find. Our stainless steel oven appears to be scratched now. I am extremely disappointed. I work hard for money to spend on these types of extra services and it was the biggest waste ever. I won't be coming back unfortunately. Again, customer service was amazing and I'm grateful for that at least. They did offer to come back and clean again but my trust was lost and it was traumatic enough for me to go though once. I didn't want to risk another fail (I have a friend that experience a similar situation and the second attempt was a fail too so I'm not risking it). Pretty disappointed in the service that I received yesterday. The apartment was half dusted, and I am not sure that it was even vacuumed. I left out all of my cleaning supplies, including a vacuum and mop. My kitchen counter was left sticky. We were looking for a deep clean/move in/ post construction cleaning. Pretty much everything. I chose Val's because they have a lot of good reviews and for their price. I am surprised at the cost for this type of cleaning. They seemed pretty friendly and responsive as well. I believe I was communication with Daisy and Monica at different points in the process. They communicated promptly and the cleaning person arrived right on time. When I went to great the cleaning person she was really sweet and nice but didn't speak a lick of English. Instead we communicated via her Google translate on her phone. To say things were lots in translation is an understatement. I tried my best. I had to be between her, the company and the contractors in the apartment. Now, I admit, part of the problem was that our contractor was still doing some last minute work on the kitchen. Putting up backslash to be exact. I had to communicate that the cleaning needed to be flexible and work around the contractor for the time being. So I started her in the bedrooms and bathrooms. The kitchen was to be last. The biggest issue was the dust and the floors in this place. With two kids (one being 2 weeks old) we really wanted things just to be clean when we go there for peace of mind and stress of the move. Well, I don't know what was happening but either she couldn't communicate with the contractors, but what I was telling her to do and then telling the contractors to let her do -- was not happening (or did not happen). She was at our apartment from 8am - 6 pm and I honestly don't know what she did. I understand the guys in the kitchen could throw things off, but we need some communication here and not just from me, we also need follow through. In the end, the floors were not clean even in the bathrooms and bedrooms (that were not being worked on). All the baseboards still had dust. This is exactly why I hired professionals, for once I didn't want to have to worry about this type of stuff. We also paid extra for them to clean the fridge and washing machine. Neither of which were done. We argued enough that they came back the next day to clean the fridge. But it was obvious from the residue and marks on the top of the washer and dryer that they had not been touched (another thing that was out of the line of work from the contractor). Also, we had communicated to her and the contractor team that she be allowed to clean the fridge and everyone agreed. This was another example of lost in translation. In short, no good. Please have you people learn some English so we can communicate. I understand their concept, but this was just a big mess-up and in the end we moved into a post construction apartment with 2 week old and 17 month old and I ended up having to wipe dust off every surface and clean top to bottom. It's a shame the company wouldn't seen someone out the next day. read more

I am so pleased with my house cleaning I received yesterday from Val's cleaning services! I have company coming into town this weekend and had another cleaner scheduled for yesterday morning. I took off work and everything, so I could be home to let them in. 30 minutes before she is supposed to arrive she cancels on me and I was freaking out. Luckily I reached out to Val's Cleaning and not only were they quick to respond, but they were able to have someone come out at 2pm that day!! It was a miracle. So I called this place and scheduled a "deep cleaning" for my new apt specifically for my kitchen and bathroom. I had to step out therefore was not home to check for quality so the lady had left. After checking both rooms, I noticed that she completely missed my pantry in my kitchen and did not clean the sink well. She also completely skipped over a cabinet in my bathroom. I gave them a call to let them know about those things and mentioned they can just refund some of the cost for the poor quality of service. I was told they do not refund but then told me they can send someone out again. Ok, scheduled the second cleaning. The second time was not any better. The person that came by told me she tried everything to get the sink cleaner but couldn't. Well, I got in there a week later and was able to get the sink spotless with a little effort. Bottom line is, they were not worth the price they charged for the "deep cleaning". When you tell me it will be a deep clean and charge me roughly $200 for two rooms, I expect things to get cleaned well and not over multiple times. I would recommend to try other places and use this place as a last resort. read more

I requested a "move out" clean as I was renting out my 2200 SF unit to a new tenant. If you read on their website they advertise this cleaning as deep clean-plus type of cleaning. I had sticker shock at the $725 fee that I had to prepay but thought they would do a good job based on reviews. The day of the cleaning one cleaner showed up with a backpack and no mop, broom, or bucket and when the second person showed up an hour later they also didn't have a mop, broom, or bucket. They also didn't have the proper supplies for a basic cleaning. At the end of the cleaning they left the floor untouched with bits of debris and junk all over the floor, and cabinets were still dirty. I texted, emailed, and called the service and received no response. Funny when I called initially to schedule the service they picked up right away, so there is definitely phone screening going on here. I finally was able to contact them through one of the cleaners who was getting yelled at by management for not bringing the mop. Pretty unfortunate and uncomfortable. Ultimately they agreed to send another team out the next day, but the result was subpar and the final result was a basic clean that any housekeeper would do for $150. I reached out to them to refund me a portion of the $725 they charged me and they said sorry there is a no refund policy. Not worth it and can't be relied upon. Beware! read more

We had moved in a new apartment on July 1st and the place was filthy. The kitchen was unusable and the floors were all sticky. I didn't feel comfortable with using the refrigerator so I had to toss out the food we brought from our previous apartment. I was almost willing to clean the place but once I saw the oven and the rest of the freezer, I knew it would take me hours. On top of the floors in the kitchen being visibly dirty, I just could not dedicate any more time with making this place move-in ready. I try to be a model tenant so I already cleaned and scrubbed my previous apartment to make sure it's in good shape for the next tenant. I reached out to a few businesses here on Yelp to request a quote and Val's was the only one that answered me promptly and offered a quote right away based on the answers I had given. I requested a Move-In Cleaning and was very worried that the $220 I was quoted would not cover the amount of work that one person would have to do. Like mentioned above, the kitchen was quite a mess. To my surprise, two young ladies showed up to my apartment and were total sweethearts! They understood that we had just moved in and saw that the kitchen was a priority. The two spent about two hours on the kitchen alone! The fridge, oven, cabinets and counters were all cleaned extremely well. The floors were cleaned and scrubbed and they even cleaned all the baseboards! The rest of the place was cleaned up well too and their attention to detail was superb. These ladies really went above and beyond what I had expected. In all, they were here for almost five hours and I couldn't be happier. It's now starting to feel like home. I had high hopes for setting up regular cleaning with Val's, but unfortunately the first cleaning went terribly wrong. I'm sorry, but I feel that I can only give them a 1 star. I am disappointed that this service didn't care about trying to make things right or follow up with a new client. It doesn't speak well of how they handle customer service. Here is what happened: Last Saturday I had set up for a deep cleaning which the service recommended for the first visit. The result was not even a light cleaning. As the 2 cleaners who came out, finished up with the master bedroom & bathroom, I went in to check things out. There was a big sport obviously not vacuumed in the bedroom and so I pointed it out to the crew who apologized and said they would fix it (they did). The master bathroom was HORRIBLE. The counters were not even wiped down and I mentioned it again to the ladies, who again went over it. The bathroom floor had some type of grind on it that I noticed when I went into the bathroom barefoot. I took a piece of clean toilet paper, added water and did a swipe on the floor and it came back dirty. At this point, the 3rd thing that I found glaringly wrong, I sent a message through Yelp to Val and then called. They said they would speak to the ladies and I offered to take a video of what I did to show them. I sent it and they called the ladies right away. The ladies came in and I once again did my demonstration and 1 woman said, we used your mop. I said if the mop isn't working for you, I could get another. They re-did the floor. I spoke to someone at Val's again who said that she would continue to keep in contact with the ladies and me. I never heard anything back from her nor anyone at Val's in the last week. The ladies finished cleaning my condo and I stopped pointing things out to them as it became a point that it was not worth it any longer. I would have just had them stop, but I felt quite awkward doing that at the time. read more

They do a lot of things in the base package that other companies charge more for- she even cleaned inside my toaster oven which I don't think I've had anyone do before. She didn't speak English but it wasn't a problem because she came prepared with a translation app to help, and she was very sweet to my 2 year old who was very curious about what she was doing. I had my apartment cleaned by Val's services. The cleaning person was on time, friendly and professional. She spent two hours at my place and cleaned everything very well. In addition to that, she cleaned my refrigerator and appliances that were on the kitchen counter. When she was done, she asked me to check everything and I Have to say my apartment has never looked so good or as clean as this. I loved getting the emails in advance to remind me of the service.
