Deciding to shop at Value Center is really a decision to not shop at some other supermarket. That's how I decided to look at my decision to shop here instead of where I usually go: Kroger. So, what does this supermarket have going for it? They do have the word value in the name. And, in a number of cases, they are true to their word. They do have some things that are very reasonably priced here, some even cheaper than Kroger. However, cases of soft drinks don't have what I love about buying soft drinks at Kroger: discounts. A case of Pepsi is always going to be two for $11. At Kroger, I routinely find specials for around three for $12. But, for just about everything else, prices are very comparable. Frozen dinners, meats, breads, milk: all of them are comparable to Kroger. But, there are two things that set this place apart from Kroger, and to be honest anywhere else that a major supermarket exists. One, and most importantly, there are always people available to help you if you need help. Good luck trying to find anybody at Kroger if you can't find an item. Secondly, and near and dear to my heart - and my belly - they have a terrific selection of craft beers. They carry Brew Dog beers here, A brand I've seriously never found in the United States (only in England). So, I have a new super market routine: buy soft drinks at Kroger, and get everything else here. read more

Okay I am back here with an update on a item that I bought at this store. I Bought 2 packages (24 oz 1 pound 8 oz) of the Kingsford already cooked baby back pork ribs with sweet and Smoky Kansas city-style barbecue sauce. I will definitely buy these again! They were so easy to cook especially in the winter without a BBQ. Since they are sold in the fresh meat section at this store they are bought as grab-and-go, or buy them when you need them to serve that day or within a few days of time frame. Cook them for 15 to 20 minutes while basting them with the sauce that comes in the aluminum foil tray. RESULTS= Very good thick sauce, meat falls off the bones tender thick meat on Bones. Very flavorful one slab for two people no leftovers. A definite Choice again when craving baby back pork ribs IN WINTER? or year round. I plan on sending an email to Kingsford to acknowledge their product and item that I have purchased at the store and hopefully they will sell at Kroger or Meijer or other local shopping supermarkets in Michigan.?! I have been coming to this supermarket ever since they opened. I thought I did a review years ago, but perhaps not. A local grocery store, they serve the neighboring areas around 16 & Harper. As a former Farmer Jack's supermarket, they have a fairly large store that was completely renovated on the inside. A Spartan store, they carry many of the Spartan-label products. They have a complete line of groceries, including fresh meats and vegetables, frozen foods, dairy, and the like. As well, the carry alcoholic beverages, having recently expanded their services to include liquor. The Service center can take your packages for the U.S. Postal Service and sell stamps. They are always friendly, and the place is kept clean throughout. They do a good job of policing up the parking lot of debris left by ill-mannered patrons. The only detractor is their bottle return machines, which are often out of order and constantly in need of deodorizing (a typical complaint wherever these machines exist). A great place to do my grocery shopping in the neighborhood. read more

I went into the Madison Heights location the other day and the employees are extremely rude and unprofessional. They get angry when you ask them where a product is. I just dont understand how people can stay in business. And also they have the most expensive prices I have ever seen ANYWHERE. Whole foods and Fresh Thyme have cheaper prices. read more

Nice market. Prices are a little higher than most stores. But they have a lot of items that I can't find in most places. Tony Packos hot dogs . Bagels from New Jersey. Many different boars head products. Some craft beers I don't see at other stores. The store is clean and friendly people work there. The deli is very good. read more

Value Center is less than a block from where I live yet I only go there a few times a year. Their prices are Very High. The average price on things like bread, frozen & canned foods is $0.50 - $1.00 higher than Walmart, Meijer or even Kroger. I find it especially surprising since it is located in a poor neighborhood. The produce is usually reasonably priced, though & they do take a lot of care to make the displays look nice. They also have a unique array of fresh, pre-made meals. It's heavy, buttery comfort-type food that I don't eat very often, but the meals I've tried have been pretty good. read more

This place has been a favorite of mine to go because of the workers, the cleanliness, and a lot of the sales that they have. I enjoy talking with the cashiers, looking for sales and all of the employees are incredibly friendly. I find some wonderful deals here. More importantly, the people that work here are very helpful and they care about the community and customers. read more

I think I was being a tad bit harsh on my previous review, I mean who am I to judge what kinds of foods you like to eat. The store is nice and clean. The employees are always friendly. Today I got 2 English cucumbers, 2 oranges, and two different kinds of sauerkraut in a jar...10 bucks! It's hardly ever on my way to or from anywhere really, and I'd never go out of my way to come here, but it serves a purpose and it's always a positive experience. This store is close by and my go to for a quick trip. I love the variety of beer and wine. If I need an item or 2 for a recipe, I can go there get the items and when checking out there is at least 4 registers open and the cashiers that I have had, have been courteous and fast. My only complaint is that the baggers over fill bags. I have to ask that they don't overfill. Store is clean and shelves stocked. There is always someone on floor to ask questions. read more

With this pandemic going on, I give this market high praises. I was afraid to see when I walked in but was impressed with what I saw. The manager there was working extremely hard. I shopped and worked this bldg in the deli. Farmer Jack had the best pre-made salads from Homestyle and then Kowalski bought them. I was so pleased that Value Center carried them. They have the best potato salads, cole slaw and macaroni salads. Recently my wife went shopping and picked up redskin potato salad, Homestyle potato salad and some cole slaw. This stuff she brought home was garbage. Did anyone taste these products and why the change PLEASE bring back the Homestyle salads. read more

We've been going to this store ever since it filled the old, empty Farmer Jack location. It has become our grocery store of choice, thanks to a number of key features: No need to be a club member to get sale prices. Their club members accrue points that can be spent on tiered rewards that change every couple months, like picnic lunches, coupons, Thanksgiving dinners and more. They have the best prices in the area. Period. The staff is always friendly and helpful. The managers know us so well, they recognize how much our children have grown! And they have a very eclectic selection of everything. Cherry RC Cola? Mexican Sprite? Arabic candy? An exotic selection of alcohols? Yeah, they got all that and more. Their deli counter is three times the size of the nearest Kroger or Meijer. Seriously, if you can't find it here, it can't be found. My only complaint? The seafood section is severely lacking. Usually only one kind of fish, maybe two, and nothing fresh like live lobster or fish cut to order. But that's small potatoes. This store is just the best. And it's also local. You won't find 100 of these in the state. So do your part, ditch the chain groceries and go to Value Center. read more

I pointed out two people in close proximity to her. Then she told me she was not a police officer and it wasn't up to her to enforce it. If you grew up in South Dub like me, there are probably a million memories associated with the words "Value Center", for me, usually those words remind me of being kid and usually walking in the cold with bottles for 3 for $1 candy bars and 25 cent bags of chips. Anyways, like I have said, I recently moved to St Clair Shores, and I need to find a good grocery store. I was a bit hesitant at first, I will be honest, but I made a stop in at Value Center (just to see...) and was pleasantly surprised. The place is actually quite clean and boasts a good amount brands, fresh looking produce, even sushi, but the great thing about the store was the deals that I remembered my mom always getting at the South Warren Value Center, the 1.99 boxes of General Mills cereal, tons of stuff for 3 for 5, or my mother's personal favorite the good ol 5 for 5. A buck for an item and it isn't a dollar store brand, jackpot. LOL Not a bad store to pick up a few or more items, was not too crowded and plenty of lines open... Let's face it, your grocery store is a big deal. read more

On September 30, 2020 while entering the value city store on Harper, I tripped and fell on the rug while entering store. The manager came out, all he said was" no one has ever tripped on the carpet". Never asked me my name , just wanted to have me sit in a chair. Never called 911- a young lady that stayed with me, called 911 and I was taken to the hospital. Broke my right wrist!! Shame on that manager!!! I wish I had taken pictures of the wrinkled rug!! Will never shop there again nor would recommend anyone to go there. They just don't care about anything except money!! The Positives: a. If you are looking for deli items at a decent price, shop here! The deli area (specifically) is well stocked and far less expensive than Kroger's. b. It's pretty clean there most of the time, and they seem to have a decent variety of produce. The Negatives: a. Although some items are cheaper there (like their deli department and some meats), they tend to make up for it in other areas. I may feel like I'm getting a deal on some things, but by the time I walk out of there, I ALWAYS wonder, "How did I spend so much money"?!?? Every time I leave there, I feel ripped-off and disappointed. The dairy there seems to be a LOT higher in price, as does some of their produce. b. Their employees aren't that friendly, and frequently seem tired and unhappy. c. The parking lot there doesn't feel safe anymore. Shady characters are often criss-crossing their parking lot, so I advise you to park as close to the door as possible. It's certainly not the same atmosphere as when Farmer Jack used to be there. read more

This is a relatively new market inside an old Farmer Jack's location that has plenty of fantastic deals strategically placed throughout the store. While most products throughout the market are comparable to a bit higher than what you'd pay at Kroger, they have one full aisle in the middle of the store of these sometimes unreal $1 deals on things that might otherwise cost several times that. (They say "10 items for $10," but each item is individually only a dollar. Holler! Lmao.) Also check the front entrance (between the exterior and interior sets of doors) for these bargains. The entire store has a fantastic selection of merchandise, as well as a MASSIVE deli with almost any food you might want under the sun. Be sure to check out pre-packaged "deli"-type foods in the open fridges opposite the actual deli--also a huge selection here. The store itself is also beautifully designed, warm in color, clean, updated, and very inviting! I just LOVE the decor! They offer a "Value Plus Card" which is free to obtain; this is similar to a Kroger Plus Card or Speedy Rewards Card, but it's not clear how it works. I shop here on occasion and don't think I've received any discount or reward from using it--and if I have, that's never really been clear. I just keep giving it to them hoping one of these days will be my lucky day! Haha. One potential area for improvement for the store overall is something I'll call "suspicion." It seems like the employees who stand at the front entrance before you walk out (without fail, there are always managers just standing there watching you.. check it out) and the cashiers seem to convey an overt suspicion that the store is going to get ripped off. They double- and triple-check your ID when you use a card, hold onto your keys behind the register if you use a keyring Value Plus savings card at purchase, and stuff like this. It's just weird.. they must get stolen from a lot, or the manager might be paranoid. Either way, there's something strange about this that seems to be ingrained in the culture here. Overall, though, they have a great selection, bargains if you know where to look, and it's a really nice shopping experience due to the cleanliness, upkeep, and design of the store. Me and my husband stopped in today, our first time in ever. We have driven by probably 100 times, thinking it was some sort of "sav-a-lot" type store. Anyway, we went in and were originally drawn to the "Value Center Rewards" deals, so we signed up. The guy at the front was really helpful and friendly when we asked questions about it. We walked around for a while and realized that they have a TON of deals on packaged products. We stocked up on spices and other pantry items, (10 for $10, or 5 for $5, a great deal). YES, the general rule is to shop the perimeters of a grocery store, but I think their produce looked great. All the produce that we bought was NOT wrapped in plastic, but was sold individually for an awesome price. The meat, salads, and other freshly prepared items looked awesome as well, plus they had some great sales. We were very impressed with this store, we will be back again for sure. read more

I have boycotted this place once already but gave it another chance but after tonight I'm boycotting it again. I go to get cheese curds, which have consistentlty been $4 and are now (with prettier packaging) $7. When I asked the deli if the other cheese curds have been moved, there was a young man who was very nice and directed me to an old bitch who said, "Whatever you see is what there is." This was not closing time. This was 6:30 pm. I honestly hate this place and will just go to Kroger from now on. Prices are too high on some things and things that are on sale watch the dates on them, 4 months ago on mostly dry goods. But its also a twist to this place, fast pace, friendly service and very hepful, the dollar aisle is great too, so if you stay closer, make the best of it the trip that, you'll be in the store for awhile, checking for great deals and good quality. read more

Love this grocery store! They have alot of different things that Meijer, Kroger and Walmarts don't carry.

The store is always clean and staff is friendly, super close to my house which is nice when I just need to run in for a few items but I dread going here because the prices are so inflated. I realize the workers don't set the price so obviously not a reflection on them. Items I can get at other stores for $1 on a regular non sale basis are always at least $2 here. It's such a huge mark up that I really have to be in a pinch to go to this store, last time I went there was only because I had a gift card and even with that I spent $87 and walked out with 3 grocery bags. Even with coupons you would still be paying more than at another store, save your money and go a little further if need be for better prices. read more

What started as a positive experience ended mediocre at best. Young man in produce very helpful. Was checked out by the most unfriendly cashier named Rosalyn. Zero greeting, the only conversation that took place was when she started scanning the customers groceries behind me-I said those aren't mine, with a disgusted look on her face, she reiterated that these weren't mine and called a supervisor to void the three scanned items. After paying for just my groceries, she handed me my receipt with a blank look and said nothing-no, I'm sorry, No thank you for shopping and spending your hard earned dollars with us. I did notify the store and spoke to a manager who's name is Samantha-she said that she would address the employee-again no apology, apparently apologies are expensive and no one likes to share them at this location. read more

I've been coming here since 2011. Their prices are very competitive and their customer service is top notch. Meat is very fresh and well priced here. The same goes for produce. They are a spartan store so their products are local. You can't find a better deal elsewhere. read more

I decided to try Virgin Mobile and bought two phones. I returned them in less than 24 hours. The purchase price of the phones themselves was gladly returned but they told me to contact VM directly for the refund of the service charges for the month. I've since spent 6 hours on the phone with the customer service department, tweeted with them, spent days emailing with them, had my phone connection 'accidentally disconnected', lied to, told my refund was already processed, told it would be returned to the credit card I used, told I would be receiving a check in the mail, all to finally be told just last night that 'It will never happen.' Honestly, don't ever get involved with them. You will only regret it. read more
