I came in with a transmission issue where my 2014 camry would tweak when switching gears. We can feel the issue when driving but no lights were on the dash. I was told it would take 2 weeks to fix. A week and half after dropping the car off I hadn't received any information so I called and was told they needed another week. After a week, I didn't receive any calls so I call them back. I was told by they needed more time. They spent about a month on it. I pick it up on a Friday morning, and after driving about 10 minutes, some lights on the dash show up, although I didn't feel any issues. I brought the car back to the shop on Monday to get it fixed. They proceed to have my car for another 2-3 weeks. During this time, I'm never given an accurate response of when I can get the car. Every time I call, I'm told another couple of days and when a couple of days go by, I didn't receive a call. Finally get the car back and by the time I'm down the street, lights on dash show up again. I also feel the original issue again. By now I need the car so I let them know I'll drop it off at the end of the week. I take the car on the highway, not going more than 60 mph, and the car breaks down and stops moving while on the highway. I get the car towed to their shop. Now I tell them to take their time with fixing it as it is now the third time I've brought it there. They have it for more than a month, terrible communication throughout the month, and when I get the car back, the issue is still there. I asked for a refund for their work as the car was never fixed and they were not willing to pay. read more

DO NOT TAKE YOUR CAR TO THIS BUSINESS. We were charged for a "Wholesale Rebuild" for $4000. This work requires the engine to be removed from the vehicle. We took the same vehicle to a mechanic we trust for another repair and they confirmed that there was definitive evidence that the engine was never removed from the vehicle. The owner does not return calls and is apparently never onsite and refuses to talk with us about negotiating a lower bill for the work since they clearly did not perform a "Wholesale Rebuild." read more

Mark replaced my transmission back in June and I recently had another problem with it that appeared to be the transmission again. I was able to make an appointment with Mark quickly and he immediately diagnosed the problem which turned out not to be the transmission but an a hose disconnect. Not only did he immediately fix it anyway even though it was not the transmission, he did not charge me for it. That's great service - someone who stands behind their work! This shop charged me close to 3 grand for a complete transmission rebuild on my truck. I had issues within the first hour of driving it so I brought it back to have them look at it. Over a week later I call them and the owner stated my warranty was voided after just 1 hour of drive time and stated I would have to pay them again to have them fix what ever issues it had and even threatened to tow my truck if I didn't pick it up. They refused to honor their warranty and refused to refund the 3 grand I already payed even though I only had possession of my truck for less then 12 hours. When I did get my truck back it didn't have 3rd gear or 4th gear and was virtually un drivable. This owner left me car-less and my only options were to take him to court. I wouldn't take another vehicle there if they were giving away free labor. read more

Crooks!!! I took my truck there three times in less than two years with the same transmission issue. Supposedly they rebuilt my transmission twice, but it is still not right. Rick was so rude actually yelling at me , and Avery wasn't much better. They pretty much told me do not bring it back and there is no warranty. They don't even deserve one star! And don't get me started on the imbecile mechanics they have working there. I don't even think they are real mechanics! One of them actually stole change out of my car and broke my shifter cover and acted like they didn't know anything about it! Rick Said he would order a new shifter cover, and never did! My front axle broke in traffic, stranded, I called Value Transmission, Rick sent a tow truck in 20 minutes( MUCH faster than AAA) to VT, and next morning had my axle replaced, and for half of what the Honda dealer would have charged. Nothing is more aggravating than Car repairs. And these problems usually occur at the most inopportune time. I blew my transmission in January when the thermometer read 16 degrees below zero. Not only that, my Wife's car was on its last legs. It was a rough time, but Rick and Avery at Value Transmission really saved the day. They gave me a comprehensive estimate on the repair costs and they stuck to it to the penny. The good news is, six months later my Car is running great and I've had no issues with the rebuilt transmission. Took my Jetta to them as the transmission was slipping. The main guy, Rick, asked me to leave the car for a couple of hours for an electronic diagnosis. Unfortunately, they suggested that I replace the transmission but the car is still drivable for another 3-4 years even without it!!! They didn't charge me a penny for the diagnosis and did a much better job on it than Jennings VW (Golf Road) who charged me a bomb just to touch my car! Not sure what I will decide as far as the trans is concerned but will definitely recommend these guys over the dealerships in the area! read more

My car was towed in from my mechanic, and brought to this shop and they looked at it right away the same afternoon. Gave me a detailed estimate and labor/hour$ in how much time they will be spending. Then the next morning; Rick called me and said that he called my car Dealership. HE wanted to double check that if my warranty can still be applied; since I wasn't so sure anymore if it was. Who would do an extra step like that? We rarely see any honest business anymore out there. These guys could've just taken my money, case closed. I owe these guys ALOT. I could've spent $2-$4k on that day. He told me that I would save $ if I go there, all i need is to tow my car to the dealership. I drove to Skokie from Spring Lake, MI to purchase a Volvo for my wife. After the test drive went well I paid cash for the car from a private party and left. My older Subaru (150,000 miles) had a transmission light flashing on the dash, they could have charged me an arm and a leg, but once they found I had a squirrel problem (chewn wires) they were able to splice in a used connector to complete the repair and have me on my way. Another auto shop recommended this place, so I decided to try it out. I called to set up an appointment and to get an estimate of how long it would take them to check my car transmission. They said it would take 2 hours. It took 5 hours. Not sure why it took that long but after they checked my car transmission, the costumer service guy, Mark, told me that I need new transmission and how much will cost me. I don't really understand a lot about cars so this might sound silly but I asked if he can use an old part because my car is not a newer model. I just felt that it was not necessary to spend 5,616$ on a new transmission when I wasn't sure for how long I would keep the car. Mark told me that he didn't recommend that. He pointed to a car next to us and said, that car had on old transmission installed and its back in the shop after 6 months for the same service. So he convinced me to put new transmission on my car. For me, that is a lot of money that i don't have and need to put that on my credit card. I was not so happy about it with the news. I said that I need to talk to my husband first and I will let him know what we have decided. I called him the next day to let him know that me and my husband decided to go ahead and do a new transmission. Mark told me that they would order the new transmission right away. The waiting time was like two weeks to get the transmission in the shop plus 3 days to replace it. Again, I was not happy because its a long time and he didn't even offer me a loaner car like other places do. That was a red flag. I told him that I need to rent a car because I just can't be with no car for such a long time. He didn't say anything and just ignored me. Another red flag. The next day, I left my car in the auto shop and my nightmare began. He took my car on Monday, promised my car will be ready on Wednesday. I didn't bother him for the first 3 days, thinking he is working on my car and he will call me to go pick my car on Thursday. Well what happened? He never called me on Thursday. I decided to call, he didn't answer, went to his shop to see in person what's going on with my car. I saw him in front of the shop and asked if my car is fixed and ready with a smile on my face. Mark said, NO. I DONT HAVE THE PART. I got very upset because he didn't keep me updated and he didn't fix the car in the promised time. Plus he didn't offer me a loaner car. I had to rent a car and I already returned it because I was thinking my car is ready. He noticed that I was upset and he said the part is coming tomorrow. And he will call me when he gets it. Next day, of course he didn't call me. I called, he didn't pick up the phone. Not only once but several times that day and the next day too. I was getting more and more angry. I felt so bad and sorry that I went to his shop to fix my car and not getting good service. I was at the point to when I wanted to just pick up my car and tell him to not do anything to my car and that I'm taking it somewhere else. I did tell him that but he said that I can't take it because they took the part out already. I'm not sure if he was being honest. From everything that happened, I couldn't trust him. So one day he called me and said they got the part and it will take 2days to put it on etc. Again two days past because it's very hard for him to call me. I called him and he said on the phone, we fixed the car but it doesn't run right, we don't know why, and as soon as I figure it out I will call you. He called me next day and said the car is running like new, we fixed it this time. I was so happy finally getting my car back. I went in the shop paid 5, 616.51. With my credit card and took my car. Only in 5 min driving the car was having the same problem. I called him right away and told him what's going on, thecar runs same way like before, I just paid you for repair? He said this isn't from the transmission. I said well you said that was the transmission and that's why you replaced it. It doesn't make any sense to me. He said drive 100 miles it will go away and the car will be fine if it's not bring it back to me. I was so pissed. I didn't have time to play his mechanics game anymore. I decided to take my car to the Infinity dealer to do another inspection on the transmission, they told me that the transmission is in critical condition and it needs to be replaced... In conclusion, DO NOT go to this dealer, he will not fix your car properly. Save your time and money. read more

This shop is celebrating 30 years in business as an independent shop. That is a great accomplishment and it is very clear why it has happened. They are an absolutely first class operation. Rick is friendly and knowledgeable and very clear about what they will do. It was like visiting a doctor for my car. He called to inform me what they might find. He called to tell me what they did find. And he called to let me know when it was completed. I felt fully informed each step of the way. The transmission is a vital component of your car, but it is easily overlooked. Recommended service intervals are based on perfect driving conditions, essentially very little shifting of gears and steady speed, not every day stop and go driving. You don't need to change the ATF fluid as often as oil, but you should make sure it is full and checked for signs of wear in the transmission. Value will give you an honest estimate and they have the skill and experience to do the job at a reasonable price. They told me to drop back in after 100 miles to check the fluids and make sure nothing was wrong. I did and was taken care of right away. A check engine light in our Kia (and the codes that were listed) did not clearly identify the problem, and my regular mechanic was not knowledgeable enough in Kia transmissions and so we got the rec to go to Value. I spend the next 2 hours in the McDonalds across the street and then come back to check on the car. THEY HADN'T EVEN LOOKED AT THE CAR AT THIS POINT. I was really pissed at this point given that they said it would take them 2 hours to look at it. The customer service guy tells me to wait another 30-45 min and they would definitely have it done by then. Since they had already wasted 2 hours of my day, I say fine. I come back 40 min later and they still hadn't look at the car. I tell they guy I am leaving and he gives me some sh1t about how a mechanic felt there was something wrong with the transmission when they moved my car and I might damage the car more by moving it. I say I planned my day around the time-frame they gave me and I have to leave. In conclusion, because of bad customer and professional service this place sucks. read more

I have a 2002 Golf, in which I had the transmission rebuilt at Aamco on Western ave. They charged me $2700 dollars, and six months later the transmission according to them had another catastrophic failure. They fixed and two years later I had trouble getting out of second gear. I went back to them and told me out of warranty and that they would charge me another $3000 dollars to fix it... I heard of Value Transmissions form some friends at work. I took the car there and then next day was told it was a speed sensor control and they fixed it for $450 dollars.
