I highly recommend them without reservation. Read on for the TL;DR of this experience. Here's the situation: my daughter is borrowing my mom's car for the summer. For nearly 5 years, it has mostly sat in the garage because neither my mom nor my late dad have been able to drive for a long time. As such, various issues arise from prolonged lack of use, and there's sometimes no way of detecting them. About a week ago, my daughter and I picked up the car and drove it 200 miles to Chicago, after which I returned to California. Before I left, I noticed a "low battery charge" alert appear on the dash on one occasion, but it didn't appear most of the time. Within a few days, my daughter informed me that it was now a persistent warning. When she took it for a free battery test nearby she was told that it was perfectly fine and the source of the alert was a bad alternator. Ugh. I then set about looking for a nearby repair shop, relying on Yelp since I don't know anyone in the area for recommendations. Golf Crawford Auto popped up, and after reading all the excellent reviews I fired off a Sunday afternoon service inquiry with the hope that I would receive a reply sometime the next day. To my surprise, within a few minutes Chris responded and asked me to call early on Monday to discuss the issue. I told my daughter that I had found a promising place and provided her with the name and address. The next morning I called the shop. Chris answered immediately and we discussed the details of the problem. From the information I provided, he surmised that it might not actually be the alternator. We agreed to have my daughter bring it in next week (his first availability on the schedule). Just a few minutes later, I get a text from my daughter - she was at the shop! I had neglected to tell her that I was going to call first and schedule service. She thought that I wanted her to bring the car in ASAP, so that's exactly what she did. Despite the unexpected drop-in, Chris graciously accepted the car while I apologized profusely for the misunderstanding. He told us that he expected to have it ready by Thursday. That was a perfectly reasonable timetable given the fact that we effectively just dumped the car in his lot. However, I got a call later that same day. He had already thoroughly tested the car, identified the problem (indeed, it wasn't the alternator), and recommended a solution. The work was done in less than a day. Amazing. In addition, the cost to us was very reasonable, which was an added bonus. So, from start to finish this was an outstanding experience. My car died in the middle of the night on a weekend and had to towed. Since Chris is in the neighborhood I had it towed there. I have tried to get in for work previously but they tend to have a lot of cars coming thru so there is usually a wait. Probably a sign of a good workshop. Any way Chris reached out on Monday and provided some possible scenarios to fix the car. I've been coming here to Chris and his team at Golf Crawford auto for the past four years and feel really well taken care of. My car is 19 years old and it's thankfully running well which I attribute to the team at Golf Crawford Auto. One time, I needed the brake pads replaced and something tie rod ends and even though I balked at the price of it, I took it for a second quote elsewhere who quoted me $500 more than Chris did. I even checked in with a friend who works on Acura cars and he told me that Chris was giving me a great rate to get all of that fixed. I appreciate that when my car goes in for an oil change, Chris will give me the full picture of what's going on with the option for me to decide what I really want done (for safety measures) or what could possibly wait another couple of months to get fixed/replaced. Two winters ago, we were ripped off when my husband took his Nissan into the dealership to get new tires - they took off all-season tires and replaced them with summer tires. The paperwork and what they charged him for were all-season tires. Once Chicago winter hit and the icy roads, it was slick and dangerous. Chris took one look at the tires and told us that we had the wrong tires on them. Even some quick googling of the photo of the tires that the dealership had was proof that they were summer tires and we were charged for a completely different brand of tires. Chris and team were able to get new tires on his car as we then had to deal with this dealership and their shoddy work.
