My mechanic for decades had passed away, but before doing so, referred all of his customers to McCormick Auto Care. Today was my first visit. I explained my issue to Russ and he took down my information and keys. He'd warned me they were unexpectedly busy and I might be there all day. I settled in to wait. After a while I decided to order some food delivery and my car was repaired and ready to go before my food arrived. I was very grateful they took care of the issue so quickly and I was done hours earlier than expected. Russ explained everything that needed to be done and I was on my way. They used to have a really good guy at the serve his desk but now he's gone. I had tie rod replaced there and about 6 months lator the car started driving funny again so I took it back for an inspection. They ended up charging me a $130 just to inspect it and they told me that I needed an axle. That was 2000 plus $, which the car is in even worth. I Asked them if it was safe to drive and they said it was. Two months later, the tie rod broke while turning and I hit another car. If I could give a negative rating I would. read more

Very honest. They are reasonably priced. I trust them. For example, another shop said I needed all of my brakes redone immediately. I went to McCormick Auto. They replaced the front brakes, but said the back ones were fine. That was a year ago, every oil change they check the back brakes. They still haven't told me to replace them. read more

I scheduled an appointment through CarMax's warranty service after having my car diagnosed at a different shop. When I showed up for the appointment, the front desk staff was very rude. He ignored me without even acknowledging me for five minutes while I waited for him to finish paperwork. Then a different customer came through the back door and he helped her. He finally came to me asking what I wanted, said they don't do appointments, and then made a phone call. I walked out the door and will find another shop to visit. The other reviews are generally good, so I was surprised that at least this employee doesn't seem to value new customers. Very disappointing and not a good value. read more

Stay away from McCormick Auto--these crooks tried to scam me big time. I went in for a simple pad slap, and they told me I needed new brakes, drums, and rotors, quoting me an outrageous $3,000. Not trustworthy which is the most important value you want in a mechanic. They told me over the phone it would be $1300 to fix. I told them to go ahead and do it. When I went to retrieve my car it magically jumped to $1600. First they said oh $300 isn't that much. We had our car towed to them after hours because we died in the interstate. We dropped the heat in the overnight box and they began working on it first thing in the morning. We thought our car was dead but it only needed and oil change. We are so grateful that we were not unsold on work we did not need. They were prompt an honest and that is appreciated. read more

This business Misdiagnosed my car issue. When addressed this with them, they became very defensive and angry. They could not admit they made a mistake. They threw out accusations toward me. My car starting smoking while driving in the freeway on a Friday night. I had it towed to McCormicks then called and left a message to let them know it was there. I received a follow-up call first thing Monday morning to discuss the issue. A little later that day I received another call with the diagnosis and price for repair (VERY reasonable price and much less than I was expecting to pay). They had my car repaired and ready for pick up within two days. I was absolutely impressed with the service, promptness, and fairness of McCormicks. Who gives you an estimate and the bill comes out lower? McCormick. Larry & Joe are thorough, patient, punctual, and just great guys. They've worked on 2 of our cars. The bill that came out lower than their estimate was a previous mechanic (previous owner) who had replaced a part but installed it incorrectly. My car had a few issues with the engine and the Cadillac cue system not being responsive. I took the car in without an appointment and the staff was extremely accommodating and helpful, they took my car in and let me know they'll give me a call when it's done. About a week later they called and everything had been fixed with some things being replaced but everything was like new again. They're efficient, dependable and go the extra mile when it comes to car care. Definitely will go back for future repairs. I should also mention they did some extra work on my car and didn't charge me for it which made everything even better. read more

Either they scammed me or they are incompetent. It took them three days to complete a repair (replace oil pan) for an oil leak. They did such a bad job that it had to be re-done a month later. Two separate shops independently reported the problem that McCormick had supposedly just charged a lot of money to fix. read more

We have been going to McCormick for years after a really terrible experience elsewhere. What I most appreciate besides the quality of their work is their integrity. Because I know little about cars, I often feel vulnerable to being overcharged or sold on repairs that I don't need. I have never felt that way at McCormick. In fact the folks there will suggest I wait on repairs until they're actually necessary. They are responsive, thorough, and help me keep my cars in great shape! This review is for the McCormick Auto Body Shop. My 2003 BMW was sideswiped overnight on my street in Evanston. I called USAA (my insurer -- I highly recommend them), who told me to get an estimate. Robert at the Auto Body Shop was able to give me an estimate in 10 minutes, told me how long the repair would take. USAA approved the estimate over my deductible and the shop began the work. Then I got a call that there was more damage once the door was removed -- Robert got the additional funds approved (no additional charge to me) and finished the job. Robert & Kim (his assistant) were easy to deal with, friendly, professional and courteous. My BMW looks great now thanks to their workers. The cherries on the sundae: 1. They picked me up from my home to get my car when it was finished. 2. They washed my car thoroughly, cleaning it both outside and inside, even putting tire shine on so it would look like new. I recommend take your vehicle there for high quality service. read more

So i brought it in last week for him to take a look at it and see what he can do for it. I was expecting it to take a couple days. Later that day I got a call from him. He explained there is a difference between a leakage and a seepage. There was no oil or anti freeze on the ground after being parked for 3 hours. A car with 130,000 miles is bound to be wet on certain parts of the engine. I got the car back that afternoon, I got two other mechanics to take a look at it and they confirmed what he told me. He said if I take care of my fluids and top it off it is perfect for what I bought it for. He even replaced my ignition wires with top of the line wires. It was getting moisture in the wires, if there was a couple of days of rain. He was very professional. I do admit I should have called him as soon as I found out about the issue. I guess my emotions got a hold of me . Overall I was very happy with the way he handled and explained everything thoroughly to me. My view of this business has changed dramatically and I definitely will return if I ever need a mechanic. read more

Larry at McCormick was able to diagnose and repair a problem with terrible gas mileage on my 1995 GMC Sonoma that the Cadillac GMC dealer down the street gave up on. The GMC dealer told me it was just getting old and there was nothing I could do. This is a small pickup and I was getting 12 mpg. I'm now getting about 15mpg... that's a 30% improvement and will save considerable gas money. As a result I decided to keep the truck for another few years and get the air conditioning fixed which McCormick also did at a reasonable price. Thanks to McCormick and $1000 bucks or so I've got a decent vehicle that will last me another few years... where can you get a deal like that? Thanks Larry. read more
