I haven't been to a whole lot of Value Villages, so I don't know if they are usually this clean and organized. But I was pleasantly surprised to see how clean and organized this store was!! Miscellaneous toys were neatly put in plastic bags, jeans were neatly folded and hung on the racks, and everything just was organized so well! They had a great selection of clothes and housewares...I came out with 5 Minecraft shirts for my 7 year old and he was so excited about them!! I will be coming here for my thrifting from here on out! However, the self check-out station seemed like a disaster. We waited way too long for help and should've just went through the regular check-out line. Kinda ruined our visit here.

I often go to various Thrift stores these days. The purpose is to look for used flowerpots and vases. It's also the gardening season, and you'll find affordable items in the Thrift store. So I visited here today. It was a weekday afternoon, but there were quite a few customers. I couldn't find the pots and vases I wanted, but I found a unique glass and decided to buy it. I posted a photo so you can see it. Six mini glasses in one for $ 2.99. Nowadays, you can't buy something like this at a regular store. And if you're 55 or older, you'll get a 30% discount every Tuesday. Donate your stuff to support the store and you have the benefit of being able to buy something at a reasonable price here. Find Something Amazing!!!

    Super new, super clean

This seems like a Mega Value Village. Maybe it's just the layout or maybe b/c it's an almost brand new store or maybe its the lighting, but this place is pretty big. There was quite a selection of all sorts of merch. There wasn't hardly any clothes partially hanging off hangers or on the floor...which you sometimes see in these type of establishments. I was surprised by the capacity of the men's clothes and shoes. I know a lot of Value Villages seem like they are downsizing men's to make room for other things, but there were so many men's clothes. And if the Halloween section wasn't there, there would probably be even more. I'm glad I can get go to half price books, Value village and get pho all in the same shopping center.

This awesome ring was just $8!

We were lucky I suppose. We had a team of 5-6 great clients of theirs we called team members (same as everyone else) and they had a fantastic coach. At our store everyone was treated equally and fair. We had a great time. Yes, Value Village is for profit. As is Goodwill, they just put more money forth for programs. Straight nonprofits, donate to St. Vincent de Paul. Minus the cost of running the stores every last penny is put towards soup kitchens, shelters, food banks, etc. It all goes back into the communities and people in need. EVERYTHING! Except for the cost of running things it's all put back into programs to help. I've worked for both places. And St. Vincent was incredible for helping those in need. Down side is they don't have training programs for the Disabled. Though they should. Donations: they will not take your trashed items. It must be resellable. That's how they find most of the programs. So please be understanding. However, if you are treated rude or unfairly contact dispatch or that county's conference. Not the church, the conference headquarters and speak to the district manager.

We've been through this before, and they are very strict about certain items. 2 - Have your stuff set out the night before. It feels terrible to give a non-profit organization a "review," let alone a bad one. However, my…read moreone and only experience with Mary's Place was so negative that I'm hoping that this post inspires some changes. I arrived at Mary's Place five days after losing my housing, at the referral and suggestion of a social worker. I hadn't really eaten since being on the street. It was pouring rain and absolutely freezing outside. I was drenched from exposure and very much looking forward to breakfast, a hot shower, some community. When I arrived I was directed to the basement, which is where the day center and facilities are. My first impression, upon reaching the lower level, is that Mary's Place is halfway between a dungeon and a casino. It was dank, smelly, and there were no windows. I imagine that one could lose a lot of time down there, if not vigilant. Nonetheless, I was warmly received by a caseworker, who took me through a brief intake and left me a list of services and resources. Then I lined up for breakfast, which was a HORROR SHOW. To say that I'm an "adventurous" eater is an understatement. Prior to becoming homeless, I was a professional woman who traveled extensively. I've eaten more sketchy street food than Anthony Bourdain. So I've had my share of "Delhi Belly." I also ate a hamburger out of the trash once. (In my defense, I was in college and I was drunk.) Moreover, I'm generally grateful for free stuff and not a complainer. But Mary's Place is serving food below Third World standards. I was appalled when staff pulled OLD, MOLDY PANCAKES out of a cold storage bin, loosely covered in mangled foil. Then they stuck those nasty flapjacks in a toaster to "warm them up." Given that the pancakes had been sitting in the fridge in their own condensation -- you just know that Mary's Place didn't follow basic safe food handling guidelines, which requires pancakes to cool to room temperature before storing them in an airtight container -- it's extremely hazardous to be serving them. Not to mention that it's just morally s***y to serve rotten, substandard food to vulnerable people. But stupid me, I cut away the mold and proceeded to scarf those pancakes down. I was hungry and cold and I have a stomach made of iron. I decided to take my chances. After breakfast I signed up for a shower. I was the only one in line and I soon found out why: there's absolutely no hot water. I don't mean that the water was tepid, inconsistent, or took time to warm up. I mean that I turned on the faucet and let it run for almost 30 minutes and it was still ICE COLD. I'd just spent the night getting whipped in the face by an arctic cold wind and rain, huddled in a doorway. The last thing I want to replicate is that same feeling in the shower, right after I wake up. I'd rather take my chances at one of the urban rest stops, even if it means dealing with testosterone and aggression. At least the guys have warm water! Realizing that Mary's Place had nothing to offer me, I promptly left the day center. However, the staff and social workers were trying to get me to stay and join one of their groups -- memoir writing, nail painting, crochet -- that does absolutely nothing to empower their clients economically. I was on my way to a job interview and all I needed was some decent, non-moldy food in my stomach and a shower to make myself presentable. Shortly after I left, I realized that the "breakfast" had given me food poisoning. I spent the rest of the morning puking and pooping in a Starbucks bathroom, regretting every bite of those damned pancakes. TLDR: - DO NOT DONATE OR GIVE TO AN INEFFECTIVE NPO - IT'S HORRIBLE TO SERVE ROTTEN FOOD TO THE VULNERABLE - THERE ARE BETTER ORGANIZATIONS OUT THERE Organizations I'd support instead of Mary's Place: - Uplift Northwest - Recovery Cafe - Northwest Share - Urban Rest Stop Downtown - University Heights Center - Seattle Mutual Aid Coalition Response to Mary's Place Staff: I'm glad the showers work and it was a temporary snafu. However, the pancakes DID have spots of green mold on them. I think a more appropriate response, rather than minimizing a potentially dangerous food poisoning situation, might be, "Mary's Place will look into this and ensure that our staff and volunteers have a WA Food Handler's Permit if serving clients. We will also revisit safe food handling and storage procedures as a team."

Man - how you gonna give a homeless shelter a bad review?…read more Lemme tell you how - I drove for an hour to drop food off to Mary's Place on a day we were instructed to come down on. Upon arrival they turned me away without taking the goods because of a leak in their storage room. Now lemme tell you something Mary's Place - the homeless don't care to go hungry when you have a leak. I could see inside your building plenty of space to hold goods. Your lack of ingenuity drove me with my goods away to donate elsewhere and while I hate to do something as petty as yelping a homeless shelter (what sort of world is this?) - I have to give you this feedback. Do better, please. Our homeless needs resourcefulness.

Pros: 1) staff is friendly and understanding 2) there is a large verity in what they have and u will most likely find what u need 3) there r mirrors around the store so u can see how something looks on u 4) if u donate then u get a card with a bunch of discounts that work immediately- I saved almost 10 dollars from it 5) it is very organized 6) they have the best selection of items I. The area Cons: 1) there r a lot of stained clothing items that are marked for a high price - but was looking at a pair of branded jeans that had a period stain on them for 23.99 which is a good price for a branded item but u usually wouldn't wash jeans because of shape and sizing 2) there r no dressing rooms and there is a strict policy on not using the bathrooms to change- however if u can slip the clothing piece on quickly then u will be able to check itself in the mirrors Overall it's a pretty average thrift store... Edit: I went back for some more thrifting and upped my review by one star because the staff was so kind about finding every possible way to get a charger for my android because it ran out of charge. The staff was also super nice, and you can find some steals there that were amazing!
