I went here to drop off a bag's worth of clothes. They told me it would be a 15 minute wait and so I went over to Michael's to kill time. Not even 5 minutes into the store, I get a text saying my bags ready. After some quick browsing in Michael's I went over there to get my stuff. I show them my receipt so they can grab my bin. This young woman takes a good 5 minutes trying to find my bin and asks me SO MANY times what bag it was in, I kept saying it was in a medium sized grocery bag and they still couldn't find it. She called over her co-worker who confessed that some other guy had taken my bag, they apparently let a guy who had a skateboard take my bag without confirming or questioning if that was truly HIS stuff. Mind you, the little sticker they have you put on your bags was on my bag, so how do you get that mixed up? Because I highly doubt any guys name would've been "Andrea" which was the name that was on my bag. I will not be selling anything here again and I don't suggest anyone does either since they don't want to be responsible and not keeping track on whose bag is truly theirs. read more

I really like the business model. It's a great place for a buyer to find name brand for an affordable price. However, as a seller, they purchase OFFENSIVELY low. I was paid $6 for brand new Nike's they are selling for $40. . I was paid $5 for brand new converse that they are selling for $30. I've also sold them unworn Dr. Martins and was given less than 10% of what they are selling them for. The employees will tell you they pay 1/3 of what they sell it for but that's absolutely not true. It would be more appealing if they offered trade in credit where for every 3 pairs of shoes, earn 1 because as it is, you can sell them 3 pairs and still won't have enough to buy 1 pair of similar kind from them.Yet, they will pay you $6 for your brand new nikes and turn around and sell them for $40. Again, I like that they offer affordable prices but they need to do better to encourage people to bring them items with value. There are too many other platforms like Depop, Mercari, and Vinted that make selling so easy. I think waiting a week to be paid $40-$50 makes more sense to most people than taking the quick $5-6. I keep trying to convince myself that I'm getting cash for what I used to donate but let's be real, times are different today and money is money. read more

In spite of being a sort of ?consignment? or used clothing store, this place is really trendy and snotty if you are an older person. They do not care for you or anything that you bring in unless it is the latest thing. I managed to get a cool velour set here, yet felt so unwelcome that I wouldn't go back. I guess I had a different experience at another Plato's Closet in a different state. Everyone I knew there raved about it and shopped there. I remember being thrown when nothing I brought in to this location was accepted. I guess I thought even if they didn't like it (I was told it wasn't style appropriate, nothing about quality, care, or cleanliness), they would take it and sell it some other way to make a profit for themselves. I remember that I chose my "coolest" items to bring in lol, including what I thought was a very trendy, hardly used skirt that I know for sure is popular - still - with some demographics. So I was turned off by the reception I was given. I get that not everywhere is for everyone. This isn't Goodwill. My experience walking in is that these YOUNG folks working here know what the "boss" is looking for and so, if your stuff isnt it then just accept that your stuff aint what they're looking for, period. I wouldn't say they are the best but they aren't the worst. This is the only Plato's Closet I have sold to before but it is pretty hit-or-miss. The customer service is not great. Most of the time, I am given lots of attitude right as I walk in but I just deal with it. Their prices are also pretty steep so I do not purchase from them. I have also heard that they are really picky but I have not experienced this. They are quite generous with the amount of money they give me for my clothes but I guess that depends on what you are trying to give them. I do closet-clean-outs often and my only purpose in coming here is to just pass my pile through them before donating. In my opinion, you should avoid this store like the plague! I won't get into how they have a terrible selection of clothes, pay you very little for your trades, or generally suck at running a business, because all of the other reviews already cover this. I'd like to tell you about my experience. I visited this store with my wife on the weekends, but she would go every single day. 360 days a year. In fact, she made purchases on almost 300 of those days last year, spending nearly a hundred thousand dollars. With these shopping habits, she racked up many of their loyalty points. She had so many points amassed, that on multiple occasions a new cashier would ring her up and be in awe of her status. My wife got to know a lot of the employees, and even bought the whole store lunch for Christmas. Then, Robbie came along. He's one of the owners. He believed that some of the employees had been trained incorrectly, and were sometime erroneously giving out points when they shouldn't have been. This led to an alleged audit of the accounts, which resulted in my wife's hard earned point balance dropping to zero. I believe these points were stolen from my wife. After jumping through hoops to speak to Robbie Jr, his reaction to being accused of theft was to ban my wife from coming back. I believe he stole from my wife, and he seemed proud to admit that they had done this to other customers too. The owners lack ethics and any sense of customer service. I was there on Friday 10/3/23 and with the exception of one Hispanic girl who by the way was very helpful everybody else was in their own little world. I was carrying maybe 10 items in my arms when the Hispanic girl approached me if I wanted to put the clothes on hood to try on. The rest would just look at me struggling to carry the items and not one offered to help. One of the girls with curly hair had so many hickies on her neck, truly unprofessional. Bought a clearance shirt and when i got to my car i saw there's hole on it, went back to the store to return it and he said he can't accept it even though i just bought it couple minutes ago. Zero stars. Called in early to see when a good time would be to drop off a lot of clothes and I'm starting van life. Girl was sweet, and I said I'd be there soon. Do my drop off, they give a 1.5hr wait estimate, no issue. My three baskets are a mix of all seasons clothes, some with tags still, lots with name brands, all washed and folded. I go do my errands, come back after receiving my "all done" text, to them having taken not ONE item. The clothes that were on top my baskets, no longer folded, and the rest of the basket not gone through. I take my baskets to my car, but I was confused how nothing was chosen when I saw tons of similar items in store. I called the store to see what would make an item unsellable, to which they replied they take all clean clothes, no youth sizes, but do take all seasons. I'm moving out of state and just needed some pocket cash before donating to good will. Let me preface this by saying - I don't buy clothing that isn't "in-style" or versatile - I brought a big tote full of clothes into this store today to try and sell, and I was selective of what I brought - I made sure it was clean, not worn, and in great condition, a good chunk of the stuff LITERALLY still had tags on it or was worn only 1-3 times. It was almost all from Zara, Nordstrom Rack, H&M, Target, etc. too. Anyways, I get a text maybe 10 minutes after I dropped my items off that my items were done processing. I go back and my tote is stuffed full of clothes on their shelf still... the girl tells me they want to buy 5 of my items for $20. I looked at what they are buying - and of course they wanted to buy the single She-In shirt I have, a couple graphic tees, and 2 pairs of work pants I had that I first contemplating not even bringing because I didn't think they were that cute.... She said "we had to be very selective on items and there were some that were just not in season or style" ..... I'm thinking they are just buying the cheaper items you bring in - waste of time. I took my time to walk around the store and look too - and EVERYTHING on their racks was out of style..... they had old lululemon zip ups that looked like they straight came from 2012, crappy looking sweaters, all their dresses looked like they were from Wet Seal circa 2009. Like if you guys can't afford the clothes I'm bringing in just say that. As an avid thrifter too, this just baffles me. I used to love Plato's closet as a preteen and young teenager, when their clothes were actually in trend. This location sucks! They think they know current trends and they don't. Uggs and pink is not in anymore, unless you are stuck in 2010. Y'all be stocking up on pink like it's heaven's jackpot. I used to be able to sell a wide range of my items there, but now the unfashionable employees never choose my things. They're probably still looking for clothes that fit the 2010 era. Lol the things that they have up for their next upcoming sale kills me . The outfits on the mannequins are so ugly. I brought in Nikes, Adidas (tear away pants, trendy), and some other clothes I thought would appeal to Plato's, I guess not. They offered me $1.20 for my ugliest shirt, I took it because shit why not. Anyways, I gave an extra star because you can find cute things here SOMETIMES. But its not the best. The Bellevue location has way more variety and is closer to trends than Southcenter. The employees need help with their style too, if you're going to have someone sell clothes, at least make sure they have good fashion!! Most employees at Plato's are welcoming. Lena, whatever her role is I don't care, is a witch. She shouldn't be working with the public. I feel bad for any employee having to work alongside her or people that have to live with her. I had major surgery a few weeks ago and asked for help carrying a large bag out to my car, which was parked directly outside Plato's front door. They hesitated, and I asked if it could just be carried to their entry door and I could drag it the next few feet to my car. Lena stepped in and said "No, we can't carry anything for you. We can't just carry everybody's bags out for them." I showed her my surgery drains and said I usually don't need any help, but it'll just take a few seconds. She said no. I thought about making more of a scene, but took the high road. I wished her well, even though it was sarcastic. When she said they can't just carry everybody's bag out for them, I thought to myself everybody isn't asking you. Right? Most people don't need help. And I don't usually need help so what's the problem? It's not going to become a big trend. Then Lena said "You should have people drive you here and help you carry out the bag." Well Lena, it's your not business and I don't have an entourage, but I have plenty of people to help me to my appts at Fred Hutch and they have helped. I have wonderful adult children, a husband, and friends who've helped a lot. But to ask for additional help driving a half hour each way and waiting an hour for a consignment reply is a big ASK for what would take all of 20 seconds to carry a bag to the entry door or to my car right outside it. (I was driving in the area anyway.) You're rude and mean and probably don't have a high IQ. Someday, when you grow up, you'll understand, or maybe karma happens. You're not making the world a better place. People at Nordstrom and Costco are into customer service, not you. I've never been treated so badly. The nice young man who helped me at Plato's is human and a good citizen. You're way too into yourself and on a high horse. That's where Plato's comes in, that top is now $6, or sometimes half off at $3, and it looks BOMB with those hot pink heels ($10) and snatch up a pair of too-tight! stretch straight legs from Seven for Mankind ($20) and you're ready to hit the club. I like the old format of selling as well - they give you a quoted time, and you come back and your name is on the board. Now it's give me your phone number so we can text you when it is ready. It seems like the low ratings will go to the people who sell the clothing items to the store. I tried doing that once, and I think not a lot of my stuff were bought either. However, I know that consignment stores are quite picky in the stuff they want to buy from people. For me as a customer that buys clothes from Plato's Closet, I'd say that the prices can quite catch up to me if I am not careful. But, I love the store whenever it has awesome sales, such as 70% off clearance. I literally walked out the stores with $60 worth of items for less than $20 ! I was a happy camper with all the work-out gear, shorts, jeans, and cute tops. The sales associates also told me there actually exists 90% off sales. I guess I'll have to wait for that one to happen again. Then, I'll guarantee to hang around the store for 3 hours at least. read more

They sell trendy, brand name stuff here for very good prices. This place is a treasure chest. The employees are usually young and helpful people who are knowledgeable of the job that they work in. Because of this, the selection is much more stylish than say, a GoodWill. My only recommendation is that you should wash/clean what you buy from there (as with any thrift). I do not know if they wash/ clean the apparel before they sell it because some do have odors read more

Great inventory, great workers, and an all around enjoyable experience. I went in today for some back to school shopping and set a $100 budget. I ended up going over by eight bucks, but I just about fit a pair of shoes in my budget with several new outfits! Two pairs of pants, a t-shirt, a thick winter cardigan, a leather belt, and 2 button up shirts. And some brand new Adidas Sambas. Not a bad haul! The workers made sure to keep handing me things at the dressing room. It made trying on 20+ articles of clothing quick and efficient. I learned early that it is not a profitable place to sell but can be a reasonable place to buy if you are CAREFUL TO LOOK FOR FLAWS because the ever changing staff does not. It's an excellent place to hunt accessories. The process came full circle on my last visit. Literally. It's the last time I intend to support any part of this business. I stood in line with a pair of black boots that were similar if not for different brand names to a pair they had just made an offer to buy from me. To be fair, mine were actual apres ski boots with pure white fur and the pair they were selling were Uggs. A generous lateral move. They made an offer to purchase mine of $4. The Uggs they were selling were priced at $35. It was a very clear mathematical equation that was too heavily weighted against a seller for me to consider being a buyer any longer. read more

I've only been in here once or twice to kill time, but each time it's been a pleasant experience. Plato's Closet is a thrift shop, essentially, but the clothes are pre-selected and made sure to be of good quality. A lot of their items are name brand and in really great condition. I found several items by Nike, Toms, TopShop, etc. that looked brand new. There was even several items from REI with tags still on them (probably gifts that somebody didn't want). My boyfriend found a few things for himself and I think his total was only like $15? Super cheap for really great quality stuff! He got a shirt from Topman and those shirts are normally like $40. I didn't end up buying anything, but if I had more time to look around, I just might have. Pretty cool place! read more

Honestly love Platos, I purchase and sell here a lot. Im only giving a review based off my experience for today. The reason Im writing this review is because they offered me 5 EFFIN dollars for my barely used Fenty Pumas. And these hoes had the NERVE to rip the bag I brought them in and not even apologize with their "hehe haha here you go". These are the kinds of employees that can ruin a business. On top of this, they were rude af from the start. They were so unwelcoming the times I've gone in during their shifts. I might just go in every day of the week to figure out their work schedules to make sure I never go in when they're working, because I would probably end up stepping down to their level.
