I'm surprised this location has bad reviews because it doesn't make sense if anything these reviews make sense for the Rochelle park location because my experience is relatable with these other reviews, who knows maybe they're mistaken because CLIFTON location is by far the best location. read more

I will now make it a priority to share my terrible experience with everyone I can so others are not taken advantage of... I went to a local Valvoline service center near me for an oil change on my daughter's Volkswagen Beetle. After a lot of banging and hammering they were not able to complete the oil change. I then went to a real mechanic who informed me that the "Valvoline amateurs" had used the wrong tool and damaged the 8 skid plate bolts. He advised me to order new ones which I did. I put a claim in with Valvoline and they are currently giving me a hard time... not wanting to make good for the damage they caused. Stay away from this company. Their customer service is the worst by far. They don't care about taking responsibility or making good on their errors. I assume they are just looking to take advantage of people to make a buck. My mom and I used to go to this place all the time to get oil changes for our old used cars. We were always happy. Since then we've both purchased new cars. I was in a little bit of a situation where I needed to get an oil change out-of-the-way. I went there and they did the oil change just to tell me that I had a "major oil leak." They told me that an oil stabilizer would help stop or slow down the leak so for only $20 more, I went ahead and purchased the service. About a week later I went to a mechanic just to check and see if the oil was coming out from some place, and he said that there was no oil leak, no signs of an oil leak, nor does a oil stabilizer do anything for oil leaks. They just wanted to sell me the $20 stabilizer. I get selling me a service - but don't outright lie to me and say that I have a major oil leak just to get $20 of your numbers up. I would never go back !!!To everyone else make sure to check all your parts are put back into your car BEFORE YOU LEAVE !!! So you don't go through what I went through. I got an oil change with this company on may 18 2020 Couple weeks later 6/11/2020 . As I'm driving to work the splash guard of my car fell off and dragged throughout the highway . To my luck I didn't get in an accident or damaged another vehicle. my dealership was 3 minutes away , i dropped it there . I was late to work and had to take an $16 Uber at 8am . Around 3 pm dealership call me and notified me that the reason for splash guard falling was because all the hardware was missing from when I got an oil change. Icalled valvoline and asked for them to reimburse me for the cost and inconvenience. I was told they would submit a claim . The manager Mario calls me that afternoon at 5pm to argue on why I took my car to the dealership and paid $87.00 instead of bringing it to his place . Where he would of done for free . As if I was supposed to know the reason of the splashguard falling apart was due to his worker's neglect . Instead of being apologetic he was putting the blame on me .. I had to paid another $20 Uber to pick up my car . In total of almost $140 for their error . I didn't ask for any free oil changes. I asked for the full reimbursement of the inconvenience I had to spent . Mario denied paying for my ubers bc I should of read the print on receipt saying that I had to bring it back to them when that was never mentioned to me when I submitted the claim . How was I supposed to know that the issue with my car was because they never placed the hardware back on my car to begin with ... secondly the should fix their fine print saying for all customers to check their car parte before they leave if that's the case !!! Mario kept on looking for excuses to put the blame on me rather than responsibility and reimburse me fully . I gave up arguing with him . Told Him he could keep the money but that's not the way of doing business. When you go and pay $90 for an oil change you expect to get it done right . Him and his team didn't ! Instead of of apologizing for the problem and reimburse me fully . He chose to look for excuses to blame me . I would never go back ! I've been coming here for almost 10 years now and It's about time I drop a review. I find it extremely convenient to sit and relax in the comfort of my own car while waiting and while the service is being performed. Its much better then sitting in some dirty repair shop waiting room or having to come back to pickup your car. I only come here for oil changes, so if you are looking for something else out of this place, I'd probably recommend you go elsewhere. They cant even rotate the tires properly because they don't have lifts, so why even offer this service? Oil change prices are reasonable, also don't forget to get a coupon from their website and save some money. Additionally they do a full car check and let you know anything that should be taken care of. If its serious take it to a professional mechanic shop or minor things you can do yourself if you are handy. read more

STAY FAR FAR AWAY FROM THIS PLACE!!! They saw a young blonde woman coming in and thought they could be sly and take advantage of me. Well, I didn't have time for that!!! They tried every which way to try to get more money out of me by lying to me about what was wrong with my car! What a shady, shady way to run a business, I should really report them to Better Business Bureau! One guy told me my transmission fluid is black, worse than oil, it should be red but doesn't recommend changing it now if it's never been done before. Then they tell me he sees oil seepage in the back of the engine asking if I had work done recently on the car. I'm by no means a car expert, but in all my years of owning a car, getting repairs and oil changes, I have never heard the term 'seepage' used to describe anything relating to a cars fluids! Next they tell me the AC needs attention every 30K miles or every 2 years, and that the motor oil in the engine doesn't mix with the water/condensation from the AC unit or it could cause problems. Hello, blatant lie!! He takes out the filter from behind glove compartment to show me how dirty it is. I ask him to turn it upside down to remove the leaves and debris and he says it's made of paper & can't be shaken out. He says it will cost about $30 to replace it. (Later I looked up that part, which is about $6 from Walmart and I changed it myself) Then proceeds to spill all the debris into my glove compartment while putting it back. I wonder, is this common practice for all their customers or did I get 'special' treatment? read more

Two stars because they send out a lot of coupons that help to save money when you need an oil change and there's the convenience of not even having to get out of your car. But with that being said...not getting out of your car is also a downside to being here because whenever I've gone, the entire time that I'm sitting in my car while they work on the oil change, the workers are trying to up sell and convince me that my car needs x, y and z done. Maybe it's because I'm a young female that they figure they can talk me into it all, but it got too frustrating for me to deal with. Whenever I would tell them that I would have my car checked out by a mechanic I know/trust, they would get short with me and try to tell me that I'll end up being taken advantage of elsewhere. The worst place to go to for an oil change. i initially went to a place on van houten in clifton to purchase a Groupon right on spot. They told me I have to have the groupon in hand never mentioned that the Groupon doesn't work on European cars. Then I went home and purchased the Groupon when I went to redeem on main ave in clifton they told me that I had to pay $69 extra plus because Groupon doesn't work on my car. i don't recommend to anyone. please read fine prints and be careful of how much oil does your car takes before purchasing Groupon and before going to these two facilities. now, I am stuck with 68.99 dollars Groupon which expires on September 1 and I can't redeem unless I pay extra 69.99 dollars so where is the discount talked advertised!? First and foremost, DO NOT believe the 4.7 rating that is displayed on a Google Search. This rating is provided by Valvoline itself, so it is heavily skewed and inaccurate. Use an independent review service such as Google Reviews OR here on Yelp. I was naive, and I didn't do this. I got an oil change here one day, but they didn't have my oil filter in stock, so they only changed the oil for a total of $119. It is a big engine, so fine. They said to come back at a later time to get the oil filter changed. Fine. I came back a few weeks later, and they charged me another $38 for that part. All in all, I was out $157 for the oil change, where I know many places that will do this work for $120. Extremely OVERPRICED and OVERRATED! They use a lot of bait and switch tactics to get you in, but everybody probably ends up paying more than they bargained for. They are also very keen on upselling products and services every time you go. Management probably is on them for making these sales. I am very disappointed. I don't fault the workers they were nice it was the manager I guess little short arrogant guy that kept pressuring them to sell me things that me and the worker agreed to do on a later date. The reviews on google were much better than the ones here on yelp. I came in for a quick conventional oil change and was quickly assisted with the assistant manager who worked on my car himself. As part of their full service they check tires, lights and windshield wipers. They offer three types of oils all for different types of mileage on cars . Throughout the process of my cars oil change I was updated on what was being done and clarified on pricing, things that would be done at no extra charge . I paid $36. I was notified of any other things wrong with my car and he even did a few things (filling up air on my tires and refilling washer fluid) for free. The assistant manager named Christopher was more than fair and a wonderful people person and the wait time was short. Would highly recommend ! read more

They also checked many other areas of my car and made me feel that they truly cared about their service and the cars effectiveness. I will always come back to this place. My car has 69k miles on it - all I want is an oil change then be on my way. I purchased full synthetic and he brings me a sticker saying to change again in 3k miles but when I called in they told me synthetic would last 7k-8k miles. Was in need of an oil change and was looking on Groupon and came across one for the Valvoline on Main Ave in Clifton NJ. It was only 10 minutes from my house and open on Sunday so I gave it a shot. Rodney and the crew there were great! They were knowledgeable, respectful, and explained everything before doing it! They honor the Groupon and even give the 15% discount on anything else needed! I wouldn't not advice anyone to use there service. First of all they try very hard to find anything to overcharge you for, pushing on me whippers, battery, filters, breaks, tires ... BTW I got new whippers & Filters on my last oil change but some how according to them I needed new ones. Anyway after paying $49.99 for a basic oil change my " Maintenance required " light remains on even after doing the oil change. This is the first time since I got my 2013 care three years ago that the light don't go off after the oil change. A sketchy guy name Mario is the MGR at that location he would not spare an opportunity to rep you off. The advertised price is a scam, it takes very very long to do a simple oil change, very small area to park so many cares, it's not on first come first serve it's about how you know inside to squeeze you in. But I brought my Mini Cooper in and they made me wait in the parking lot for 30 min before telling me that they dont service Mini Coopers. Never again will I go to this scam-pit. Absurdly overpriced. I stupidly agreed to let them do an A/C flush and recharge. They said it would take 15 minutes, it wound up taking 45 minutes. When they were finished, they didn't even seem to know whether or not they had done it right. They try to push as many extra services on you as possible. I went in expecting to pay maybe $25.00 and I left having spent over $200, despite them trying to get me to spend over $300. Another suspicious practice is the lack of pricing on their website. It was my first time at Valvoline, went in for a quick oil change, plus they had a $10 off coupon for 1st-time customers (i love coupons). Arrived 10:45am Sunday and there was only one other car ahead of me. My wait was only 15min, and by 11am they started working on my car. They told me the cost of the synthetic oil change will be $78 dollars (which is reasonable, it's synthetic oil). 15mins after they started, they said they don't have the right oil filter for my car. I was asked to drive to an auto part shop nearby, buy an oil filter and they'll deduct the cost of oil filter from the total amount. Fine. I drove to AutoZone which was only few minute drive, went and bought oil filter for $10.58. Drove back to Valvoline, and they were able to start on my car right away. Even after I got back, I confirmed with the guy about deducting the cost of the oil filter from the total amount and asked him if he needed the receipt from AutoZone, and he said he'll take care of it. After they finished with the oil change, I was not seeing the deduction for the cost of the oil filter. Then the guy said he's not deducting the cost of the oil filter, arguing that they normally charged extra for the oil filter but because I bought my own there won't be any additional charges, WHAT?! But you guys didn't have the parts, and had asked me to get the parts and promised me for a deduction from the total. The guy said 'we usually charge $8 extra for the oil filter, but since you paid for your own we're not charging you.' Wow, thanks a lot! They ended up charging me $78.99 for synthetic oil change, plus $4 (for extra oil charge?!), and said I needed a new air filter which was $22.99, and only gave me $10 discount for being a 1st time customer Total paid at Valvoline: $102.70 Oil filter from AutoZone: $10.58 TOTAL SPENT: $113.28 Experience at Valvoline, WORTHLESS! read more
